Iraqi Orphanage Rescued by American and Iraqi Soldiers

UPDATE 6/28/07 (9:00 a.m.) This post accompanies a previous piece, originally posted by The Tanker Brothers: Where is the Outrage? which Spree at Wake Up America cross-posted here. This post attempts to answer that question, where is the outrage? and I do indeed think I stumbled upon it. This video is as difficult to watch, as is reading Where is the Outrage?. When I asked how to identify The Tanker Brothers to my readers, Spree's answer was: "Brat from Tanker Brothers is a Canadian that shows more American spirit than half of our own countrymen." What you do not get from the video is the commentary from The Tanker Brothers. What you do get in the video is the story of where the children are now; what happened to the adult "caretakers" of these 24 little boys, why were the children so terribly malnourished, why they were wearing no clothing, and besides finding and rescuing the boys, what did our soldiers have to say about these children. So here's the video and I hope you'll read-on to discover what happened to the "outrage." Video courtesy of Takster Looking around the web to find the "outrage" and some extended praise for our troops, I found Lara Logan's blog. Logan is the reporter in the above video, she is a CBS Foreign Correspondent and it appears that she broke the initial story. She says this on her "My Life as a Military Spouse" blog:

After reporting on the compassionate U.S. soldier rescue of abused Iraqi orphans, CBS’s Lara Logan ran a follow up story on the June 21 edition of The Early Show. Upon reporting that the Iraqi labor and social affairs minister accused Lara Logan of reporting a "lie" and that the U.S. soldiers that rescued these emaciated boys "have no compassion," Logan played a gracious remark from an unidentified U.S. soldier.

That got my attention. I eventually found a report from NewsBusters. Read the entire transcript here, and view the Early Show video of the Harry Smith - Lara Logan interview here.

When questioned by host Harry Smith, Logan clearly sided with the U.S. soldiers against the denying Iraqi government official. "Well, what's upsetting about the controversy, Harry, is that the plight of these boys is actually being lost in all of this. But incredibly, the Iraqi ministry is trying to make the U.S. the bad guys. They're blaming them, America as Iraq's enemy, we're being told, instead of acknowledging what was done by the soldiers who rescued these boys. And -- and, in fact, it's important to know that they were local Iraqi leaders who helped the U.S. rescue the boys that night. And when I spoke to them a week later, Harry, they were still in shock about what they'd seen. They wept constantly, throughout the interview as they recounted the horror. And that horror is now being denied by the ministry."

From what I can see and read, The Early Show's Harry Smith chose not to mention American troops, not to credit the troops, not to support the troop's valor and humanity - he totally ignored the American troop's involvement. Of Lara's comment that an Iraqi ministry is trying make America the "bad guy,"...nothing from Smith. He did not follow-up on Logan's "defense" of the troops - never a word about the troops and their part in the rescue. A MSM omission of this sort is evil, irresponsible and unpatriotic, in my opinion. Why is this incredible rescue not on prime time news several times a week, at least for awhile? Why are the soldiers not interviewed? Why isn't this a big deal - especially now that we know that America is the "bad guy"? Can it be that the press does not want to champion our military - their humanity, how well they do their job...does not want to show just one more fine reason why America should be in Iraq...does not want to destroy their imposed myth that America is an invader and an occupier? I think the answer to all of the above is "yes." One week ago today, I woke to these pictures, just as the rest of us did. As always when I witness any kind of cruelty to children, my broken heart shattered into even more tiny pieces.

One week! One week - and CBS reported on this horrific scene that our troops almost missed. Almost missed, but didn't; I can only guess that was by the grace of God that they did NOT walk by unknowing what horrors lurked behind the wall.

On a daytime patrol in central Baghdad just over than a week ago, a U.S. military advisory team and Iraqi soldiers happened to look over a wall and found something horrific...."They saw multiple bodies laying on the floor of the facility," Staff Sgt. Mitchell Gibson of the 82nd Airborne Division told CBS News ... "They thought they were all dead, so they threw a basketball (to) try and get some attention, and actually one of the kids lifted up their head, tilted it over and just looked and then went back down. And they said, 'oh, they're alive' and so they went into the building." [source]

One week ago, msm like CBS gave this story front page status. One week on? Nothing. Zip. Zero. NADA. You might be forgiven if you think it was all a bad dream, now that the media has gone on to the next big 'scoop'. They might have moved on, but I will not - and I will not allow self-righteous, self-serving politicians of the world to move on.

Yes, these are ugly pictures showing, for all to see, the basest of human nature, and we ALL want to turn away. The msm has, but I will not.

In the course of my life, I have worked with many abused and neglected children. Because of what I do, complete strangers still email me regularly with a never-ending litany of horror stories of neglected children. Children treated as so much garbage by the 'adults' supposed to nurture them and care for them. Every time I hear (or see with my own eyes in some cases) the neglect and mistreatment of kids, it just makes me stronger in my mission to work on behalf of the children. It outrages me all over again - even when I am so heart-sick of the never-ending stories, that I swear I can no longer be outraged. And then - and then. THIS shows up with my morning coffee, and I want to do unspeakable things to the adults who would do such things.

"Nothing wrong"????????? There is just sooooooooo much wrong with this story on so many levels, is hard to know where to begin. But begin we must, and never stop looking at pictures like this. Yes, it stinks to see these over morning coffee. Hell, it hurts any time of the day to see these pictures. But look we must. And we must act. To quote an old song "Tears are not enough". Treating this story, and the many so far untold stories like this, as one day wonders, as various media outlets have done, and then moving on, is most certainly not enough. As I looked at these the first time, I immediately had to wonder how many OTHER - thus far unknown - children will bear witness to the horrors of the state-sanctioned evil that our troops are fighting against. Our troops. I dont need to imagine the reactions of our soldiers as they deal with this day in, day out. I don't need to imagine. I know. For me, pictures like this are EXACTLY why our troops are in Iraq. And I want to go to some politicians' offices and get in their faces and DEMAND they support the mission with every cell in their bodies.

In the past, ChrisG has posted pictures here of a little girl in Iraq. This little girl, wrote ChrisG (and I am paraphrasing now Chris - forgive me) reminded Chris WHY he does what he does, why he went to Iraq, why he serves in the military.

As a member of Soldiers' Angels, and with the contacts I now have, I often see requests for shoes for children in Iraq who have no shoes. Our soldiers in Afghanistan write and ask for school supplies, teddy bears, footballs (okay, okay "soccer balls. lol). All well and good, and I am happy to report that every single request for those things IS met, by generous and loving folks - strangers to these children. Compassionate strangers a world away from the deprivation of kids they may never meet, open their hearts and their wallets so that others' children may know the simple joys of chasing a ball, swinging carelessly on a swing in a newly rebuilt playground. You know - every day simple joys that we who do not live in places like Iraq take for granted every single day.

So I have a mission for every single compassionate person. THIS mission has nothing to do with opening your wallet. It has EVERYTHING to do with opening your heart. It has EVERYTHING to do with taking the outrage that any of us feel when we witness recurring scenes like these (remember Romania? We've come a long way baby. NOT!) and demanding, DEMANDING that your politicians give our soliders every single dime they need to complete their mission. We 'cut and run' as so many of the politicians insist is the only plausable, acceptable end to this war, and I dread to think how many more of children - JUST LIKE THESE - will go unfound.

In the immediate days following the breaking of this story, a few media outlets had this - you can go here, or here, or here,(YouTube).

I don't care where you get the pictures from, or the facts from, but this mission must not fail. I have noticed how quiet all the politicians have been on this horror story. Why is that, do you think? That was a rhetorical question! I know, oh how I know, it would be s0 easy to 'turn the page' and just get back to business as usual. You know the line: WE have no business being in Iraq. We went there for oil. No weapons of mass destruction. Blah blah blah. Well, I for one have always supported our troops and their mission - whole-heartedly. For me, it is and has always been about the children. Children are MY business, and damn it - I am going to do all in my power to make sure that not another politican can turn their heads away from this story. Not another politician is going to be allowed to play bs games with the lives of our troops, or the children. The children, the thousands of children just like these, don't have the luxury of turning away. They live - and they die - in the time it is taking you to read this and drink your morning coffee. It is ONLY because our troops are there that maybe, just maybe if the politicians get their heads out of their arses, that children just like these, and you know - kids used a suicide bomb decoys (and if that doesn't outrage you, you are NOT fit to be part of the HUMAN race) - will be allowed to grow up, go to school, swing in the playground, and scream in delight. Our troops, and these children, deserve our support. Every soldier - and every CHILD, no matter where, IS one of our own.

Every one of these children and yes, every Iraqi child touched on a daily basis by our troops, (you know, the stories you will never see in msm) WILL remember the kind soldiers who rescued them, saved them. These children will remember that not everyone in the world treats them as so much garbage.

Please: I don't care what your politics are. I don't care of you are brainwashed by the anti-war rhetoric. That is your choice. I am telling you, in the matter of children, none of us has a choice. Really, we don't. It is said that every society is judged by how it treats the weakest among them. How willl YOU be judged? Where is the outrage? Who will join me on this mission to ensure that NEVER AGAIN will any politician be allowed to play their political games. NEVER again will they be allowed - by the stroke of a pen in their cushy, air-conditioned offices, enjoying their fat paycheques (which YOU pay), to send the message to ANY child that they don't matter. I swear that I will not sit quietly by and give the politicians the luxury of turning their head away from scenes such as these, and decide that their own games of one-upmanship matter more than any child. Enough!

This is MY mission.

How the Presidency and America Will Be Changed by Immigration Fraud

Flashback: Immigration Fraud and the Presidency by James Lewis, writing for the American Thinker, is a prodding post - a reminder of just what is at stake if the immigration reform Bill s.1639 passes.

Before Clinton ran for his second term in 1996, Meissner [Administrator of the Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS)] ensured that hundreds of thousands of illegals were fraudulently legalized, just in time to vote for the Clintons.

Lewis points to Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), "the 2006 Democrat Congressional takeover" and Al Gore as being "intimately involved with this massive Democrat immigration fraud...."

After the Clinton's and Gore took the White House, quoting a David Schippers piece in the WSJ:

The U.S. got 75,000 new citizens who had arrest records when they applied; an additional 115,000 citizens whose fingerprints were unclassifiable and were never resubmitted; and a final 61,000 who were given citizenship without even having their fingerprints submitted so that no check was possible...

Then this all too often forgotten reminder:

Oh, and by the way, Mohammed Atta was found and released twice by the INS for immigration violations. Before he knocked down the Twin Towers and killed 3,000 Americans.

President Eisenhower Put Americans First and Closed the Borders

President Dwight Eisenhower championed legal immigration, and his benevolence toward those wanting a homeland in America is an important part of his legacy.

In a March 1960 address to Congress he said this:

The names of those who make important contributions in the fields of science, law, and almost every other field of endeavor indicate that there has been no period in which the immigrants to this country have not richly rewarded it for its liberality in receiving them.

He proposed doubling the quota of 154,000 immigrants then accepted into the U.S. He encouraged accepting larger numbers of those fleeing from oppression:

This year has been designated World Refugee Year. The United States and sixty-eight other nations have joined together in an attempt to seek permanent solutions for the problems of these peoples. Nations who in the past have granted entry to the victims of political or religious persecutions have never had cause to regret extending such asylum. These persons with their intellectual idealism and toughness will become worthwhile citizens and will keep this nation strong and respected as a contributor of thought and ideals.

He spoke of the "Liberalization of some of our existing restrictions upon immigration," but let's time travel back to the early 1950's as he geared up for his first Presidential campaign. Illegal immigration was heavy on his mind.

John Dillin, writing in first person for The Christian Science Monitor, spoke of an interview with Eisenhower's first attorney general, Herbert Brownell Jr., years after Eisenhower left office.

America "was faced with a breakdown in law enforcement on a very large scale," Mr. Brownell said. "When I say large scale, I mean hundreds of thousands were coming in from Mexico [every year] without restraint."

Dillin reports that President Eisenhower had a "sense of urgency about illegal immigration" when he took office.

In 1951 Senator William Fulbright (D-AR) proposed a special Congressional commission to:

examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.

"General" Eisenhower responded to Fulbright with his approval of such a commission and publically quoted a New York Times article:

"The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican(s) [snip] to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government."

Eisenhower won the Presidency and acted quickly, according to Dillin:

As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents - less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Profits from illegal labor led to the kind of corruption that apparently worried Eisenhower. Joseph White, a retired 21-year veteran of the Border Patrol, says that in the early 1950s, some senior US officials overseeing immigration enforcement "had friends among the ranchers," and agents "did not dare" arrest their illegal workers.

Officials with an agenda? Sound familiar? "So there's nothing new under the sun " except four very important facts:

1) In the early '50's, there were 3 million illegals. Today there's 12-20 million illegals with a population of 300 million, with more flooding in each day - and they are more determined than ever to encroach, as responsible Americans hold strong for closed borders.

2) In the '50's, illegals were not on our welfare rolls, were not stealing our social security numbers, were not flooding our hospitals, were not flooding our schools, were not receive loans for housing, were not hanging our flag upside down with the American flag below Mexico, and they were not protected by Liberals, whether Democrat or Republican.

3) The illegal "vote" did not exist.

4) We had a President determined to close the border and rid the government of corrupt officials.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents - less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Eisenhower appointed a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, General Joe Swing to head the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Swing swung into action and almost before the bureaucrats knew what was happening, "entrenched immigration officials" were on their way out of border areas "where their political connections" with influential Senators could no longer impede border safety.

By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.

Mexican nationals were returned by bus or train, deep into Mexico where making it back to the U.S. border was not an easy trip. Tens of thousands...tens of thousands!

Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships...

According to Dillin, the sea journey was not pleasant. The intimation was that most of these "tens of thousands" would not want to make the same trip again. Perhaps they stayed home in Mexico.

Asserting that the United States cannot secure our borders, without accepting 12-20 million illegals via a Z-Visa, is complete political spin for the gain of the politicians casting the 'yea' vote.

Jones: Continues the Fight for Ramos and Compean

Jones (R-NC) continued an effort to protect our nation’s borders when he was asked to speak today before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security on the issue of U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean. Jones applauded the Subcommittee’s inclusion of the agents’ case in its review of mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Congressman Jones had requested that the Committee schedule a hearing to examine the prosecution of agents Ramos and Compean in a February 23rd letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers. The two men entered federal prison on January 17, 2007 to begin serving sentences of 11 and 12 years respectively for wounding a Mexican drug smuggler who brought 743 pounds of marijuana across the U.S. border in 2005. “Because delaying justice in this case undermines the U.S. Border Patrol’s critical mission of enforcing our immigration laws, I believe the House Judiciary Committee should investigate all matters involved in the prosecution and sentencing of these two men,” the letter stated. “I hope that this hearing will not only bring sunshine to the misapplication of mandatory minimum sentencing laws, but also to the fact that these agents never should have been prosecuted,” Congressman Jones said. The agents were each charged with violating 18 United States Code Section 924 (c), which carries a 10-year minimum mandatory sentence. The law, as enacted by Congress, requires a defendant to be indicted and convicted either of “using” or “carrying” a firearm during & in relation to the commission of a crime of violence … or “possessing” a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Because agents Ramos and Compean were carrying their guns in relation to their duties as U.S. Border Patrol agents, many have questioned the U.S. Attorney’s decision to apply the statute in their case. “The disturbing details of this case strongly call into question whether justice was served,” Jones said today. “I am hopeful that the House Judiciary Committee will take the time to thoroughly investigate the lack of fairness in the proceedings against these two men – including the prosecution’s efforts to seek out and offer immunity to a habitual illegal alien Mexican drug smuggler for his testimony against two law enforcement officers.” For additional information or to schedule an interview with Congressman Walter B. Remembering Agents Ramos and Compean: Kill the Bill

Remembering Border Agents Ramos and Compean

America's Most Wanted, John Walsh, puts the details of this case in a video. After the video, you'll find links to the complete history of the case, including trial transcripts.

Senate Bill 1639, with its promise of $4.4 billion to hire and train border guards, along with other unknown measures, is an empty promise. Agents Ramos and Compean had the training, did the job and ended up in prison.

What can we "expect" from our border guards, and the millions to be "surged" toward new hires? Can we expect them to stop drug smugglers? Can we expect them to protect themselves against criminal aliens? Can we expect this country to protect them from the absurb charges of an illegal against our own?

Do not be distracted by the prosecutors claims that these two men covered-up a crime. If you are not certain about this case, follow the links below and make your own determination. I'll be adding new links as they become available.

President Bush recommends fighting forest fires with 4.4 billion slips of paper from Conservative Comman Man. Excerpt: Does El-Presidente Bush believe that if he orchestrates our loss of sovereignty and facilitates the formation of one North American Union he will be selected to be the emperor? If this is not the case, I cannot imagine his seeming desire to accommodate Mexican citizens at the expense of his own countrymen.

U.S. Citizens Disqualified from the Work Force: Goal of Immigration Lawyers

The video shows a seminar hosted May 2007 by the law firm of Cohen and Grigsby.
As you'll hear in the video, the seminar instructs employers how to lawfully weed-out job applications submitted by legal citizens, and hire only illegal aliens attempting to qualify for a green card.
"...the goal is clearly not to find any qualified U.S. workers - the objective is to get a person a green card."

Honestly, how can these people, in their spiffy business attire, face themselves in the mirror? Clearly, they have enjoyed the bountiful benefits of this country's work opportunities, but they spend their days denying the same to their fellow Americans.

Note: Early-on in the video a speaker is announced: Jen Peck. She is bloody boring to listen to. Just get past her and you'll get the message.

As you read though the material, look for information on the cloture vote, which ends the debate about the Bill. This vote is the key...no matter what your Senator tells you. It is believed that once the vote passes to end the debate, a few Republican Senators will be "allowed" to vote "no" on the actual Bill so that they will continue to receive 2008 election campaign funding from lobbyists. The Senate knows, however, that these "no" votes are not enough to keep the Bill from passing. America needs your voice this week.
