The UN Security Council Takes Action Against Terrorism

On September 12, 2001 the United Nation's Security Council got serious about terrorism. As word of the U.N.'s lightening quick action through adoption of Resolution 1368 which

Determined to combat by all means threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts,...
the world breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the full might and power of the United Nations was now on the trail of terrorism.

This riveting Resolution detailed the 9/11 tragedies:
Unequivocally condemns in the strongest terms the horrifying terrorist attacks which took place on 11 September 2001 in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania and regards such acts, like any act of international terrorism, as a threat to international peace and security;
as well as resolved that
"those responsible for aiding, supporting or harbouring the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of these acts will be held accountable;..."
The Resolution ended with this powerful statement expressing the Security Council's acknowledgment of the urgency with which they would continue the pursuit of terrorists: [in their words]:
6. Decides to remain seized of the matter.
Just knowing that the Security Council was remaining "seized" on the matter of terrorism brought even more comfort and aid, especially to the people of America who were so recently the target of radical Islam.

A few days after the 9/12/2001 Res. 1368, on September 28, 2001, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1373, which reaffirmed the earlier Resolution and also stated that the Security Council was
Deeply concerned by the increase, in various regions of the world, of acts of terrorism motivated by intolerance or extremism.
On this day, a Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was formed and was tasked with overseeing and implementing Res. 1373. According to the UN:
The 15-member Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established at the same time to monitor implementation of the resolution. While the ultimate aim of the Committee is to increase the ability of States to fight terrorism, it is not a sanctions body nor does it maintain a list of terrorist organizations or individuals.
On March 20, 2008, a culmination of all the years of the difficult and taxing work of the Security Council has resulted in a very clear statement to those seeking to do harm to others through acts of terrorism.

The Iranian delegate, an august member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) said it best:
"...a distinction ought to be made between the heinous acts of terror...on the one hand, and the internationally recognized and legally legitimate struggle of peoples deprived of their fundamental right of self determination, on the other."
What this means to you and to me, is that to this day, the U.N. Security Council has refused to "define" terrorism, and as a result has never "named" a terrorist , or a terrorist act.

Eye on the U.N. reports:
...the Chairman of the Working Group on terrorism from October 26, 2007 gives no hope that the OIC's [Organization of the Islamic Conference] stonewalling of a comprehensive convention against terrorism will come to an end anytime soon. The only thing that years of informal consultations have yielded is that everyone agrees on the need for further consultations.
A question might be: What goes on in an actual United Nations Security Council Meeting?
One example is seen at Eye on the UN's dedicated page to a list of documents distributed to members of the Council, by the UN's Palestinian representative.

Here is an example, and keep in mind that I have shown 4 here, but there are an additional 37 documents Glorifying Terrorism Via the UN - Suicide Killers as Martyrs:
3/4/2008
Glorifying terrorism via the UN. New UN document, distributed by the UN's Palestinian representative, once again refers to terrorists as "martyrs." Latest list of "martyrs" includes Ayman Abu Fayed, a senior member of the al-Quds Brigades (the Islamic Jihad's military wing). Other "martyrs" listed include Hamza Khalil al-Hayya - who commanded a rocket-launching squad in northern Gaza - and at least five other Hamas militants, and 2 members of the terrorist group Popular Resistance Committees.

While I have employed scarcasm here to make a point, the point is:

Since September 28, 2001 the CTC has never named a single terrorist, terrorist organization or state sponsor of terrorism.

Again, from Eye on the UN:
The five state sponsors of terrorism, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria write reports to the CTC about their compliance with Security Council Resolution 1373. In the absence of any UN definition of terrorism, all of these states readily proclaim they are engaged in a vigorous campaign to combat terrorism.
Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, 2005, laid out the five D's - his five point UN strategy to combat terrorism:
• Dissuading the disaffected from choosing terrorist tactics;
• Denying terrorists the means to carry out attacks;
• Deterring state support of terrorism;
• Developing state preventive capacity; and
• Defending human rights in the struggle against the scourge of terror.
Additionally, Annan said back in 2005
To implement these sweeping mandates, the Security Council created a special body, the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), with British ambassador Sir Jeremy Greenstock as its first chair. “Counterterrorism has now gone global,” said Greenstock, “with the UN at the center.”
In the March 20th, 2008 Security Council meeting, which created yet another Resolution, No. 1805, to RECALL the powerful and "sweeping" Res. 1373 and REORGANIZE the pitiful CTC.

This same Kofi Annan speech is listed on the UN's webpage as the "Fact Sheet: The UN's Contributions to Counterterrorism. You can see it all there, and be prepared to be reviled.

54.Prices rise as Iraq's refusal to allow United Nations weapons inspectors into "sensitive" sites raises tensions in the oil-rich Middle East.
55.OPEC raises its production ceiling by 2.5 million barrels per day to 27.5 million barrels per day. This is the first increase in 4 years.
56.World oil supply increases by 2.25 million barrels per day in 1997, the largest annual increase since 1988.
57.Oil prices continue to plummet as increased production from Iraq coincides with no growth in Asian oil demand due to the Asian economic crisis and increases in world oil inventories following two unusually warm winters.
58.OPEC pledges additional production cuts for the third time since March 1998. Total pledged cuts amount to about 4.3 million barrels per day.
59.Oil prices triple between January 1999 and September 2000 due to strong world oil demand, OPEC oil production cutbacks, and other factors, including weather and low oil stock levels.
60.President Clinton authorizes the release of 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) over 30 days to bolster oil supplies, particularly heating oil in the Northeast.
61.Oil prices fall due to weak world demand (largely as a result of economic recession in the United States) and OPEC overproduction.
62.Oil prices decline sharply following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, largely on increased fears of a sharper worldwide economic downturn (and therefore sharply lower oil demand). Prices then increase on oil production cuts by OPEC and non-OPEC at the beginning of 2002, plus unrest in the Middle East and the possibility of renewed conflict with Iraq.
63.OPEC oil production cuts, unrest in Venezuela, and rising tension in the Middle East contribute to a significant increase in oil prices between January and June.
64.A general strike in Venezuela, concern over a possible military conflict in Iraq, and cold winter weather all contribute to a sharp decline in U.S. oil inventories and cause oil prices to escalate further at the end of the year.
65.Continued unrest in Venezuela and oil traders' anticipation of imminent military action in Iraq causes prices to rise in January and February, 2003.
66.Military action commences in Iraq on March 19, 2003. Iraqi oil fields are not destroyed as had been feared. Prices fall.
67.OPEC delegates agree to lower the cartel’s output ceiling by 1 million barrels per day, to 23.5 million barrels per day, effective April 2004.
68.OPEC agrees to raise its crude oil production target by 500,000 barrels (2% of current OPEC production) by August 1—in an effort to moderate high crude oil prices.
69.Hurricane Ivan causes lasting damage to the energy infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico and interrupts oil and natural gas supplies to the United States. U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham agrees to release 1.7 million barrels of oil in the form of a loan from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
70.Continuing oil supply disruptions in Iraq and Nigeria, as well as strong energy demand, raise prices during the first and second quarters of 2005.
71.Tropical Storm Cindy and Hurricanes Dennis, Katrina, and Rita disrupt oil supply in the Gulf of Mexico.
72.In response to the hurricanes, the Department of Energy provides emergency loans of 9.8 million barrels and sold 11 million barrels of oil from the SPR.
73.Militant attacks in Nigeria shut in more than 600,000 barrels per day of oil production beginning in February 2006.
74.OPEC members agree to cut the organization’s crude oil output by 1.2 million barrels per day effective November 1, 2006. In December, the group agrees to cut output by a further 500,000 barrels per day effective February 2007.
More detail for 2006 here.
Original concept for the chart was by the Analysis Division in the Office of Management Operations; Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Modified and updated by the Office of Energy Markets and End Use in the Energy Information Administration.

Chicago White Sox - Day of Sports (for Whom?)

This came to me by e-mail from Jake Jacobsen at Freedom Folks and Blogs for Borders. All red text below is mine (Maggie) either for commentary or emphasis. We make no big deal that white people have no "days of their own", and no, President's Day is not a day for white people. We've accepted that we are not allowed a white award show, a white pageant, a white day of sports, or a white congressional caucus...and we wouldn't care, except that we get our noses rubbed in our generous spirit way to often. I mean, "our people" want to feel "proud of our race" too! Message to the Chicago White Sox: Kids are kids. If it's free for some kids, then let them all in free, along with their parents - no matter their color or country.

Via e-mail

Oh, I’m sorry. Did you want that in English, you picky bastards? Here’s the (rough) translation, courtesy of Free Translation

Companeros, wanted to share with you this information of an event where us podramos to feel proud of our race. Almost all the Latin-American players of the White Sox go to been present offering autografos and regalitos. The event is completely free for our people, cortesia of The White Sox.

What, exactly is free for “our people?” It seems the Chicago White Sox are hosting a special event — Dia del Deportes — to reach out market to Hispanics in the hopes of getting their mitts on more of their hard-earned cash. Sponsored by U.S. Cellular (as in U.S. Cellular Field, where the Sox play ball), along with Telemundo and Pepsi, it’s a day of fun, games, music, and meet-the-players. And who is it for again?

Clue#1: Did I mention that the event is named Dia del Deportes? [Day of Sports]

Clue#2: The flyers are in English and Espanol…

But here’s where it really gets interesting…look at the pictures of the kids on the flyers. The kids on the English language flyer for the All-American pastime event look, well, All-American.

But look at the kids on the Spanish language flyer:

Are we on the South Side of Chicago, or south of the border down Mexico way? Perhaps the answer can be found here.

Re-create 68, Operation Chaos, and Rush Limbaugh

Photo Credit: Rush Limbaugh. A contrast in character and integrity: Rush has it, Moyers and Wright don't. This is a great photo, and I admit, not relevant to Susan's post - just a terrific photo!

Cross-posted by Susan at Wake up America

There are not many people that Democratic supporters despise quite as much as they do Rush Limbaugh. He has been often criticized for his outrageous statements. He has done it again by saying, "I'm dreaming of riots in Denver." Not long ago, I remember reading about an organization called Re-create 68, which is a group of people that want to protest at the Democratic convention that will be held on August 24-28, 2008, in Denver Colorado.

The significance of the Re-create 68 name, is that it refers to the Democratic convention of 1968, held in Chicago, Illinois, and which was rife with such protests from Democratic supporters and police actions, that as television cameras filmed, over 100 police officers and 100 demonstrators were injured and over 500 people arrested.

Outside the official convention proceedings, anti-war demonstrators clashed with 11,900 Chicago police, 7500 Army troops, 7500 Illinois National Guardsmen and 1000 Secret Service agents over 5 days.
The Re-Create 68 site has a page they call street tactics with helpful hints for those that want to participate in protesting the August Democratic Convention. These tactics cover with PDF files, direct action vs voting, planning direct actions, an action planning manual, scouting manual, questions about civil disobedience, a video camera training manual, shields, walls and other useful tricks and wheat pasting.

This site, by its very name and stated intent is to re-create an event that was one of the most violent Democratic protest with party supporters protesting Democratic politicians, and yet the site, their goal and their intentions have gone largely ignored.

Enter Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh is known for his outrageous statements and more recently for his "operation chaos" plan where he encouraged Republican voters to vote for Hillary Clinton in primaries, to keep her in the contest for the Democratic nomination for presidency.

On Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh once again said something that has Democratic supporters calling for his prosecution, claiming he is trying to incite riots at the August Democratic Convention.

Denver Channel.com titles their piece, "Rush Limbaugh Calling For Riots In Denver", the sub header of the piece, after reading the actual Limbaugh transcript, seems to better describe the words he used, but I will leave that to you to decide. The sub header is, "Talk Show Host Wants America To See Actions Of 'Far Left'".

He said the riots would ensure a Democrat is not elected as president, and his listeners have a responsibility to make sure it happens.

"Riots in Denver, the Democrat Convention would see to it that we don't elect Democrats," Limbaugh said during Wednesday's radio broadcast. He then went on to say that's the best thing that could happen to the country.
The portions of Limbaugh's transcripts that pertain to these conversations are within two different segments of his show.

The first portion is called, "Why It's Called Operation Chaos", and it discusses his plan to for Republican voters to vote for Hillary Clinton and why he wanted that, to keep the two Democratic contenders at each other's throats for as long as possible, to lessen any chance of either one of them being able to win the election in 2008 for presidency.

In that transcript, in regards to the latest controversy about the riots at the Democratic convention, Limbaugh said:
The dream end... I mean, if people say what's your exit strategy, the dream end of this is that this keeps up to the convention and that we have a replay of Chicago 1968, with burning cars, protests, fires, literal riots, and all of that. That's the objective here.
He goes on to finish discussing Operation Chaos, then the comments causing such a stir, came later in the day, which is covered in another transcript.

Setting the scene, Limbaugh is on the phone with a caller, they are discussing his ego and how the caller did not like his comments about the riots and the replay of the 1968 convention.
CALLER: I believe that, with -- with passion. But then also, I mean our -- our whole premise was our Constitution for our safety, you know, for our children's safety. And what would that show by riots and burning cars no matter what side did that? I just think, Rush, that that comment was a little out of line and maybe just not properly thought through. Because I don't believe that way, and I don't believe that most of us want that. Because people get hurt in those situations -- and we believe that our side as Republicans, we can do it better than the rest.

RUSH: As we would be demonstrating because there won't be riots at our convention.

CALLER: Actually they would be demonstrating as Americans --

RUSH: We don't riot.

CALLER: -- that they're more out of control.

RUSH: We don't burn our cars. We don't burn down our houses. We don't kill our children. We don't do half the things the American left does. We need the American left -- and this is another great thing about Operation Chaos; nothing to do with my ego. We need as many ignorant Americans to wake up and find out exactly who the modern-day Democrat Party is as dominated by the far left in this country. We need that to be seen. Now, I am not inspiring or inciting riots. I'm dreaming. (singing to the tune of White Christmas) "I'm dreaming of riots in Denver." Remember 1968? And which party did that? It was the radicals in that party, the anti-war radicals, the same bunch of clowns that are running around defining the Democrat Party today. What the world thinks of us? There was an analogy just this week about somebody in the world. I'm drawing a mental blank about this. But the fact is that the Democrat Party has members in it that have already said, "There will be riots," or something to that effect. Al Sharpton.

He was throwing down the gauntlet to the superdelegates: "You take this election away from Barack Obama, and there's gonna be trouble......
Sharpton's comments are in the video below.

Reaction to Rush Limbaugh's words has come out fast and furiously, promising to become a firestorm at the rate it is going.

Some are saying he is deliberately trying to incite violence, one even suggests locking Limbaugh up in a mental institution, another suggests that he was trying to get Republicans to "pretend" they were Democrats and riot so that Democrats would look bad, and others are saying dreaming of something is not inciting it.

That is just a small sample of reactions to the latest comments by Rush Limbaugh.

This leaves but one question in my mind.... why is no one talking about the Re-Create 68 site, which by it's name alone suggests recreating one of the most violent Democratic protests in history against Democratic politicians by their own supporters, yet Rush's assertion that he "wishes", "dreams" or even 'wants" for the far left to show the world a side of themselves that would commit violent acts, receives calls to jail him and institutionalize him?

Are his words any worse that the Re-Create 68 site? Or is it simply because some people just love to hate Rush Limbaugh?

Killing the God Who Isn’t Against White People – Jeremiah Wright’s Theology

UPDATE
h/p to Susan at Wake up America for a link to the transcript. If you prefer to read rather than watch, the full transcript is below the video. I've pulled this quote out of for posterity:
Quote, "Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill gods who do not belong to the black community. Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in black power which is the power of black people to destroy their opinion pressers here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."
Take a look into Barack Obama's Pastor's theology, which he, Jeremiah Wright, so proudly professes. Thank you to netstepinc and YouTube

How Radical is Obama`s Pastor?; Supreme Court Hears Second Amendment Case; Millionaire Bails out Hundreds of Illegals

Aired March 19, 2008 - 19:00:00 ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) GLENN BECK, HOST (voice-over): Tonight more fallout from Obama`s controversial speech about his former pastor. Does Jeremiah Wright believe in what`s called a black liberation theology? How radical is that school of thought? Plus a big wig from Boston spends $200,000 to bail out illegals swept up in raids. Is he a hero or a villain? See if you can guess what I think. And it`s been five years since the war in Iraq began, and except for today, the media has largely ignored the story lately. But the reason they`ve been ignoring the war is actually good. And I`ll explain. All this and more tonight. (END VIDEOTAPE) BECK: Well, hello, America. After Barack Obama`s speech yesterday on the racially charged anti- American comments of his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, the liberal media held a pity party: "Oh, poor Barack, he`s just got a crazy grandpa. And don`t we all have a crazy grandpa?" No. Here`s "The Point" tonight. Reverend Jeremiah Wright is much more dangerous than any crazy grandpa any of us might have had. The foundation of Wright`s beliefs are rooted in the theological tradition based in hate, intolerance and racial black nationalism. Here`s how I got there. I told you just last week that I wouldn`t give any platform to any slinging of any mud for any candidate or any party. And I feel I am keeping my word on this. I am not piling on Obama due to the comments of his former pastor. What I`m doing, and what I think is important that we all do, is shine a light on Barack`s past. We don`t know, really, who this guy is. We have to kind of piece it together, not only by what he says in the present, but what he has done in the past. Who is Barack Obama? Who has built his foundation? So what did Barack do in the last 20 years? Well, he`s -- one thing, sat in one of the pews of the Trinity United Church of Christ and listened to Reverend Wright`s sermons. He says he counts Wright as a member of his family and his senior spiritual adviser. OK. If that`s true, then I think it`s fair that we find out who Wright is and what he believes. In the talking points page of the Trinity church`s Web site, Reverend Wright, in his own words, states that the foundation of his beliefs are in systemized black liberation theology and praises James Cone`s book, "Black Power and Black Theology." This is what James Cone, the man who Obama`s senior spiritual advisor looks up to and whose ideas he preaches, states as black liberation theology. Listen carefully and please follow along. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love." Wow, America, here is what you need to know tonight. The man who wrote those words contributed to the foundation of Reverend Jeremiah Wright`s ministry. Barack Obama has been Fed a steady diet of those teachings for 20 years. He sat in the pew every Sunday, soaking it in. He never denounced or rejected the Reverend`s beliefs until it was politically advantageous. So do we believe 20 years of evidence or a 20-minute speech? Forget about me. I want to ask you the question: is this the kind of man you want to have access to the most powerful man on earth? Ken Blackwell is a senior fellow for family empowerment of the Family Research Council. And Ramesh Ponnuru is the "TIME" columnist and senior editor for "The National Review". Ramesh, let me start with you. "Newsweek" called a couple of dozen prominent African-American pastors and asked them how out of step is Jeremiah Wright with what they see coming across the country? What did they find? RAMESH PONNURU, "TIME"/"NATIONAL REVIEW": Well, they found that not one of their experts was willing to say that the Reverend Wright had crossed any kind of significant line. They were saying that this sort of stuff is firmly within the mainstream of the churches that they`re talking about, not that all churches are like this but that a lot were. BECK: OK. Here`s what I don`t understand, Ramesh. Is I`m reading the editorials. I read four papers today. You can`t find an editorial in a mainstream paper today that says anything but that Barack Obama was brave, et cetera, et cetera. This is poison. This would destroy anybody else`s career. How is this just being dismissed? PONNURU: Well, partly it`s because, for some of his fans among liberals and in the press, Barack Obama can`t sneeze without it being called eloquence. Partly it`s because he managed very skillfully to change the subject. The question you`ve been talking about I think is the right question, which is what does his association, his tight and longstanding association with the Reverend Wright say about him, his beliefs and his judgment? Instead, he made it all about this grand canvas of race relations in this country. BECK: Right. PONNURU: So it`s not about his judgment. It`s about all of us, the moral test is of us, not of him. BECK: OK. Ken, I wanted to have you on, because you were a former U.N. ambassador -- U.S. ambassador at the U.N. And you have seen this black liberation philosophy or theology before. Explain. I think this is even more frightening than the stuff that I`ve already read on television. Explain what you`ve seen. KEN BLACKWELL, FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL: Essentially, liberation theology took root in Africa and Central America. It was often offered up by Marxist regimes that knew that they couldn`t uproot the church, so they tried to weaken the doctrine of the church. So it is an alternative doctrine of the church that embraces big government. It advances a collectivist ideal and idea, and it says the state, not the individual is central to society. And that is very disquieting. But it also gives you a better understanding of the under-girding of Senator Obama`s big-government, liberal philosophy that would increase spending, increase taxes, weaken our military and our position in the world. BECK: I`ll tell you, it explains the comments of his wife. It explains -- you`re exactly right, his big-government ideas. If you understand what this theology is, you do begin to understand Barack Obama, but it is in a -- I believe in a frightening way. However, I`m being labeled the one that`s the hate-monger for asking these questions. How is this theology out there and it not be labeled racist and hate-mongering? BLACKWELL: Well, it`s part of a series, of parts. Here`s a guy who says that he studied the doctrine of Saul Alinsky, who was an anarchist, a radical. Here is a guy who basically said that, while he was in Reverend Wright`s church, he embraces Louis Farrakhan. The fact is that nobody has elevated this beyond his race. He can speak eloquently on race and moving towards a color-blind society, but what he can`t speak to is how he got there going to a color-conscious theology and how he got there by embracing, I think, a position that was really radical and antithetical to this whole notion of God as being central to our nation and the individual as being primary. BECK: Ramesh, do you think, if I had -- if I had a gun to your head and made you make a prediction, lay your last thousand dollars on the table and make a bet, does this just tighten Barack Obama`s core, and I think tear us apart even more, make us -- you know, pretty much guarantee 1968? Or does this -- does this -- does he get away with it? Does it -- does it do anything to anybody in the end? PONNURU: I think Obama -- you know, we`ve heard a lot of people say, oh, he threaded the needle. And that`s true except for one factor. He may be getting through the primaries this way. But unfortunately, there`s also a general election. And I`m not sure that this kind of double talk, where he sort of says he`s not excusing the Reverend Wright and his anti-American comments and then gives seven paragraphs of excuses for it, is going to work with the general electorate. I they they`re fooling themselves. BECK: I have to tell you, I have more respect for Democrats than this. I don`t think Democrats are -- are in line in Reverend Wright at all. Ken, Ramesh, thank you very much. NOTE FROM MAGGIE'S NOTEBOOK: At this point the Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama conversation ends. Beck goes on to discuss Iraq, Ban on Guns, Illegal Aliens, and The Economy and Rising Energy Costs. Posted by Maggie Linked by:

Muslim U.S. Chaplains Chosen by Convicted Terrorist

This piece is the fine work of Yid with Lid and posted here with his permission. Bold text is my emphasis, not Yid with Lid's.

MILITARY'S MUSLIM CHAPLAINS CHOSEN BY CONVICTED TERRORST
Abdurahman Alamoudi, is the founder of the American Muslim Council in the United States. He was born in Eritrea, but was raised in Yemen, and later immigrated to the USA. He founded the American Muslim Council in 1990, a group dedicated to lobbying American politicians (both Republican and Democratic) on behalf of Muslims in the US. Until 1998, he was involved with the selection of Muslim chaplains for the U.S. military (through the American Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Council, which he co-founded in 1991), and acted as a consultant to The Pentagon for over a decade. In his role of Pentagon consultant Alamoudi help the US Military Select its Muslim Chaplains most of whom are still in service. In 2004 Alamoudi was convicted of making multiple trips to Libya to transmit money and to communicate with al-Qaeda. He is serving a 23 year sentence. But those Chaplains he picked are still working with the US Military, there is something wrong with that and Rep.Sue Myrick agrees: Muslim chaplain probe demanded Congresswoman points out appointments were approved by convicted al-Qaida ally Fearing the radicalization of U.S. soldiers, the leader of the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus has called for a government investigation of all Muslim chaplains serving in the U.S. military to determine whether they have ties to radical Islamic groups. Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., says the Pentagon has failed to vet properly the Muslim chaplains ministering to U.S forces since it first set up its Muslim chaplain corps 15 years ago. The military chaplains were approved by a convicted terrorism supporter who at the time headed the American Muslim Council. Abdurahman Alamoudi is now serving a 23-year prison sentence on federal terrorism charges. The U.S. Department of Treasury in 2005 announced in a statement that "Alamoudi had a close relationship with al-Qaida and had raised money for al-Qaida in the United States." According to Myrick, the chaplains he sponsored have not been re-screened since his sentencing. "Alamoudi placed Muslim chaplains throughout the military. He is now in jail on charges of terrorism," she said. "The chaplains to my knowledge are still in their current positions." Myrick added that "while there may be nothing wrong with the Muslim chaplains that he approved, it seems logical that our government would re-check the chaplains who were approved by a convicted terrorist." In January 2007, Myrick founded the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus. The bipartisan group, with more than 120 members and headed by Myrick and Reps. Bud Cramer, D-Ala., and Jane Harman, D-Calif., was formed to allow members to meet with terrorism experts and become educated about the dangers radical Islamists pose to America. The caucus meets twice a month and hears from terrorism experts, including Ken Pollack, Steve Emerson, Walid Phares, Gen. Anthony Zinni and Lawrence Wright. Myrick, who is up for re-election this year, has been working on numerous issues related to radical Islamists, such as writing letters to the Department of Justice and FBI taking issue with their outreach to radical groups, as well as looking into similar issues at the Pentagon. Myrick's call for a formal probe of Muslim chaplains coincides with her release of an ambitious 10-point legislative agenda, dubbed "Wake Up America." She says Washington is not doing enough to protect the nation from the threat from radical Islam, and the public as a consequence has grown complacent.
"People would rather watch 'American Idol,'" she said.
She also is calling for a government investigation of all U.S. prison chaplains who were approved by Alamoudi. At least one Muslim cleric who contracted with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in New York had supported al-Qaida and the 9/11 hijackings. The FBI says U.S. prisons are a top recruiting ground for al-Qaida now that it is trying to lower its Arab profile and recruit American converts. In addition, the congresswoman will ask the Government Accountability Office to investigate the selection process of Arabic translators hired by the FBI and Department of Defense. Since 9/11, several federal translators have been charged with espionage-related crimes, according to Paul Sperry, author of "Infiltration: How Muslim Spies and Subversives Have Penetrated Washington." Myrick complains that the FBI, desperate to hire Arabic-speaking translators and agents, is currently recruiting candidates through pro-jihad publications, organizations and even mosques connected to the radical Muslim Brotherhood. As part of her 10-point agenda, Myrick also plans to ask the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the Council on American-Islamic Relations' non-profit status, which restricts lobbying on behalf of foreign governments. U.S. prosecutors say CAIR, which receives financing from Saudi and UAE sheiks, is a foreign-funded front for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. The Brotherhood has a stated objective of destroying America from within, and Hamas is an officially designated terrorist group. U.S. prosecutors last year named the Washington-based CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in a scheme to funnel more than $12 million to Hamas suicide bombers and their families. CAIR's ethnic-Palestinian founder was listed as a Brotherhood leader in America. More than a dozen CAIR officials have been caught up in counterterrorism investigations, with several landing in jail. CAIR insists it receives most of its money from member dues and none from foreign governments. It dismissed Myrick's concerns as Islamophobic. "It sounds like your usual laundry list of talking points you can see on anti-Muslim hate sites on the Internet," said CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper, who in the past has stated his desire to see America become an Islamic state. Myrick says she will also introduce a bill making it an act of sedition or treason to preach or publish materials that call for violent jihad and the death of Americans or the destruction of American property. She will also ask GAO to conduct an audit to verify the total amount of sovereign wealth fund investment from the Middle East in the United States. What's more, she says she will rally Congress to cancel the scholarship student visa program with Saudi Arabia until they reform their textbooks. Despite promises by the Saudi government to reform its texts, independent reviews show they still preach hatred and violence against Westerners. The State Department plans to double the number of student visas issued to young Saudi men from 15,000 to 30,000 -- despite the fact that nearly all of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi nationals who immigrated to the U.S. on visas. "We aim to increase their numbers to 30,000 over the next five years," U.S. Ambassador Ford Fraker this month told Saudi officials at the Al-Jouf Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the past, a large number of Saudi students have failed to show up for classes, coast to coast, and have overstayed their visas. Many of them have been caught up in terrorism investigations. In addition, Myrick will introduce a bill to restrict R-1 religious visas for Muslim clerics who come from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other countries that do not allow reciprocal visits by non-Muslim clergy. Since 9/11, several foreign imams have been prosecuted or deported for soliciting jihad, including a Pakistani cleric in Lodi, Calif. Myrick also plans as part of her anti-terror legislative action to introduce a bill to cancel U.S. contracts to train Saudi police and other security forces in U.S. counterterrorism tactics until the Saudis certify the prosecution of designated al-Qaida financiers – such as wealthy Saudi businessman Yasin al-Kadi – as well as the detention of repatriated Guantanamo terrorists whom the Saudis have released back into the general population after being "rehabilitated." Some Gitmo detainees repatriated to Saudi Arabia have re-joined the jihad against U.S. troops overseas. The U.S. trains Saudi security forces in counterterror techniques at both the Quantico Marine headquarters in Virginia and Sandia National Laboratory in New Mexico. Finally, Myrick says she will introduce or sponsor a bill to block the sale of sensitive military munitions – especially Joint Direct Attack Munitions – to Saudi Arabia. JDAMs include so-called smart bombs. End Yid with Lid's article. Technorati Tags:, , , , , ,,, , ,
