What Does Obama Think Christian Churches Do?

Obama praised Trinity United Christian Church and its leaders for their many good works in the Chicago area, today as he "sadly" resigned from his 20-year membership in the church.

A first question might be: what does he think Christian churches do, routinely? Churches do NOT do "good works?" He has made much of the "good works" of Trinity. I know of few (actually, I know of no) Christian church which do not do "good works" in their local communities, as well as in their outreach programs.

I'm just a bit jazzed by his many references to the "good works" of Trinity United Christian Church. So there are 8,000 members? Surely, they do "good works" in their local area. What are their outreaches? Palestine, maybe? I don't know, but I think it is audacious to harp on the "good works" of Trinity United Christian Church. THIS IS what Christian churches do - they do good works. They feed and clothe the homeless and the other hungry. Some provide weekday daycare for children, some provide scholarships - the list goes on - Christian churches do in proportion to their membership. Trinity is a big church. So what? Christian churches simply do good works. There may be some that do not do good works, but I've never heard of even one.

Kristin Powers (Democrat strategist) is on Sean Hannity at this moment saying the [Trinity] "church has done many good things...look at this church in totality...." Yes, let's do just that. It is a hateful church and Trinity parishoners were on their feet, cheering, as the Catholic "Father" Michael Pfleger dumped on Hillary, which I do daily, but not from a church pulpit.

And of course, it is all about Obama. Months after the churches' white racism was exposed, Obama resigns. Why?

It’s clear that now that I’m a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will be imputed to me, even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles...
Trinity is a Christian church and they better do "good works." The Obama's will not have a problem finding another Christian church that does "good works," especially with the tithe the Obama family can bring to a Christian congregation.

Say NO to Obama, Stop the Obamanation!

This no-nonsense piece is cross-posted from TexasFred. Here's Fred, boiling it down to the bottom-line.

We are witnessing a political phenomenon with Barack Hussein Obama of rare magnitude. His speeches have inspired millions and yet most of his followers have no idea of what he stands for except platitudes of ‘Change’ or they believe him when he says he will be a ‘Uniter’. The power of speech from a charismatic person truly can be a powerful thing. Certainly Billy Graham had charisma and his manner of speech, and particularly the content of that speech, changed the lives of untold millions. On the extreme other hand, the charisma of Adolph Hitler inspired millions as well, and the results were catastrophic.

Barack Hussein Obama seems to radiate an aura of pure evil as he attempts to call upon the inspirational speaking styles of both Billy Graham and Adolf Hitler, and it makes me feel an almost primal fear every time I see this person, not a man to man fear but a deeper and much more spiritual fear, as if a pall of doom were being cast across America…

Here are just a few things that define Barack Hussein Obama:

– He voted against banning partial birth abortion.

– He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.

– Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government.

– In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing.

– Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as a minimum wage affair.

– Admitted marijuana and cocaine use in high school and in college.

– His religious convictions are very murky.

– He is willing to meet, unconditionally, with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

– Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations.

– Opposed the Patriot Act.

– First bill he signed that was passed was campaign finance reform.

– Voted No on prohibiting law suits against gun manufacturers.

– Supports universal health care.

– Voted Yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.

– Supports granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

– Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.

– Voted Yes on comprehensive immigration reform. Would result in 20 million instant citizens never having paid SS, many refusing to speak English, immediately sending for their 40 to 50 million extended relatives telling them not to wait and obey the laws, the once mighty USA is theirs for the taking.

– Voted Yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.

– Wants to make the minimum wage a ‘living wage’.

– Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 251 votes.

– Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid.

– He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax.

– He voted No on repealing the ‘Death’ Tax.

– He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax.

– Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded.

– Has never served in the military and has never visited Afghanistan, and hasn’t bothered to visit Iraq since Jan. of 2006.

– He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing.

– Is a notorious gun grabber, he wants to completely disarm the American population and is a total supporter of ALL anti-gun legislation.

If your political choices are consistent with Barack Obama’s and you think that his positions will bring America together or make it a better place, then you will probably enjoy the ride and not re-post this message as we attempt to stop this poser from ascending to the Oval Office.

If you agree that this is an important issue, please pass it on in a nationwide emailing and re-post it on your blogs…

The mainstream media will not do it for you!

Wizbang's Jay Tea on Why the U.S. Should Scrap the U.N.

Jay Tea has written a terrifically concise piece on why the U.S. should scrap the U.N., or at the very least, cut funding.

My only disagreement with Mr. Tea is that I want the U.N. out of the U.S. and he doesn't care one way or the other, as long as the U.S. takes strong action on U.N. policies.

Please read this article. I don't think it can be said any better.

A Soldier Questions Barack Obama

Rosemary at Rosemary's Thoughts has up a video web ad: Sgt. Garrett Anderson (Ret.) questions Obama's lack of fact-finding in Iraq. Rosemary has a few questions herself:

Video: Vets4Freedom have a question of Obama As many of you remember, the Vets For Freedom went to DC on April 8, 2008, to meet with our congressmen and senators on the same day that General Patraeus was to testify before congress. Most of the people we pay to be there showed up, including Barack Omama. Why do I single him out? It was his first time showing up to work, and he left to go campaigning right after he asked only one question! He has never been to Iraq since he has been in the senate. He had not gone in past, either. If he becomes Commander-in-Chief, how is he going to make policies about a country he has never seen? He is supposedly a man of the world. Well, Sen. Obama, if you will meet with a country who is murdering our men and women in uniform trying their best to protect your backside, why can't you listen our generals and our men on the ground? Here is a video put out by Vets For Freedom PAC. I would like these questions answered myself. After all, we the people deserve to know what your plans are for Iraq, and for our troops, that you swear you support. Let me inform you of fact which may have slipped your mind. When you take that oath, God forbid, it no longer remains a 'hope' of yours to bring those troops home. You will have sworn an oath which requires much more of you. So much more that only then will understand what President Bush HAS DONE for ALL OF US, not just George Soros. Good day.

Energy Companies Cheating on the U.N.

No astonishment here that the U.N. is allowing the world to be scammed - again...often, this time in the name of the Kyoto Treaty and carbon emissions. H/T to Alex Jones' InfoWars. According to the The Guardian U.K.'s John Vidal, Stanford University's David Victor, says:

Traders are finding ways of gaining credits that they would never have had before. You will never know accurately, but rich countries are clearly overpaying by a massive amount,...
(Emphasized text is mine)

Billions wasted on UN climate programme
Energy firms routinely abusing carbon offset fund, US studies claim
Billions of pounds are being wasted in paying industries in developing countries to reduce climate change emissions, according to two analyses of the UN's carbon offsetting programme.

Leading academics and watchdog groups allege that the UN's main offset fund is being routinely abused by chemical, wind, gas and hydro companies who are claiming emission reduction credits for projects that should not qualify. The result is that no genuine pollution cuts are being made, undermining assurances by the UK government and others that carbon markets are dramatically reducing greenhouse gases, the researchers say.

The criticism centres on the UN's clean development mechanism (CDM), an international system established by the Kyoto process that allows rich countries to meet emissions targets by funding clean energy projects in developing nations.

Credits from the project are being bought by European companies and governments who are unable to meet their carbon reduction targets.

The market for CDM credits is growing fast. At present it is worth nearly $20bn a year, but this is expected to grow to over $100bn within four years. More than 1,000 projects have so far been approved, and 2,000 more are making their way through the process.

A working paper from two senior Stanford University academics examined more than 3,000 projects applying for or already granted up to $10bn of credits from the UN's CDM funds over the next four years, and concluded that the majority should not be considered for assistance. "They would be built anyway," says David Victor, law professor at the Californian university. "It looks like between one and two thirds of all the total CDM offsets do not represent actual emission cuts."

Governments consider that CDM is vital to reducing global emissions under the terms of the Kyoto treaty. To earn credits under the mechanism, emission reductions must be in addition to those that would have taken place without the project. But critics argue this "additionality" is impossible to prove and open to abuse. The Stanford paper, by Victor and his colleague Michael Wara, found that nearly every new hydro, wind and natural gas-fired plant expected to be built in China in the next four years is applying for CDM credits, even though it is Chinese policy to encourage these industries.

"Traders are finding ways of gaining credits that they would never have had before. You will never know accurately, but rich countries are clearly overpaying by a massive amount," said Victor.

A separate study published this week by US watchdog group International Rivers argues that nearly three quarters of all registered CDM projects were complete at the time of approval, suggesting that CDM money was not needed to finance them.

I'll repeat from previous posts: The U.N. had time to jump right on evaluating American's racist attitudes (some voters plan not to vote for Obama), but the U.N. cannot feed the hungry, they cannot contain the peacekeepers who rape and pillage, they cannot stop greenhouse gases and they certainly cannot stop Iran's nuclear program.

Iran's 25-Year Atomic Program and the U.N.'s Failure to Launch

This Bloomberg Report says that Iran has concealed its "atomic program for two decades before 2003." That would be about 25 years that Iran has been working on an "atomic program."

The U.N. Atomic Agency reports that they have verified the "non-diversion" of declared nuclear material in Iran. So, materials haven't been diverted to nuclear? Or have they?

The U.N. jumped right on evaluating American's racist attitudes (because voters may not want to vote for Barack Hussein Obama), but the U.N. cannot feed the hungry, they cannot contain the peacekeepers who rape and pillage, they cannot stop greenhouse gases and they certainly cannot stop Iran - who, according to the report, "probably will not have enough uranium for a bomb until 2010, at the earliest...."

No need to worry, Israel, you still have about 1-1/2 years before you must launch (you do have complete faith in the U.N. and the IAEA, don't you?)

Iran Withholding Atomic Weapons Research, UN Reports (Update 1)

By Jonathan Tirone

May 26 (Bloomberg) -- Iran continues to defy United Nations demands that it suspend its nuclear program, has expanded its fabrication of atomic fuel and continues to stonewall investigators looking into documents alleging its government researched atomic weapons, the UN atomic agency said.

``The agency is of the view that Iran may have additional information, in particular, on high explosives testing and missile-related activities, which could shed more light on the nature of these alleged studies and which Iran should share,'' according to a nine-page report the International Atomic Energy agency transmitted to the Security Council today from Vienna.

Iran ``maintains that all the allegations are baseless and that the data have been fabricated,'' the report said. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will present the findings to the Vienna-based agency's 35-member board of governors June 2.

The IAEA findings are likely to intensify international pressure on Iran, holder of the world's No. 2 oil and gas reserves, over its atomic work. The Security Council has imposed three sets of sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program. Tehran's government says it's not making a bomb and wants enriched uranium to fuel nuclear energy reactors.

Surprise Visits

UN inspectors, who have made 14 surprise visits since March 2007 to Iran's uranium enrichment facility at Natanz, were ``able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran,'' according to the report.

The country increased the number of centrifuges it's operating by 17 percent since February to 3,500 and may by the beginning of the third-quarter be able to install 6,000 of the fast-spinning machines that separate uranium isotopes, according to the agency.

Obama's Plans to Defeat our National Defense

National Defense is not a threat to peace: it is the guarantee of peace with freedom President Ronald Reagan June 22, 1972
If you have doubted the danger of an Obama-Nation, the following makes it clear - from his lips to your ears - that he will take the military-weakening strategies of Bill Clinton and James Carter to a new low-level of defense. As my husband just said: "how can you be so frigging stupid?" h/t to Mad Irish Man's Conservative Consortium and Blogs for John McCain Read the transcript below the video. Video courtesy of YouTube.com Transcript: I'm the only Presidential candidate who has opposed this war from the beginning, and as President I will end it. Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems, and I will institute an independent defense priorities board to insure that the quadriennial defense review is not used to justify unnecessary spending. Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons. I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material, and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBM's off air-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals. Memorial Day Prayer

This is the day we remember those who have fallen in battle, thereby making the supreme sacrifice in service to our great nation. Too many of us don't fully recognize what this day symbolizes. So I am offering a Memorial Day prayer, both to give my thanks and hopefully help us all be a little more appreciative. Here it is: Dear God: I pray for the fallen, those brave souls who gave their all for this country, never flinching from their duty, whatever they were called to do, and whether the leadership decisions that brought them to their last mission were well considered or not. They have given all they had, without question. But I pray especially for the fathers and sons, mothers and daughters of these fallen princes, for they have to live on without, and doubtless would have taken their place without question, even if only to save themselves from such unbearable pain. Nothing can compare to the suffering endured by a mother who loses her child, or a child who loses his mother or father before their time. The fallen sacrifice their lives; the family sacrifices the rest of their lives. They will never see what their beloved’s life could have become, will no more share life’s trials and triumphs with them, never again see their smile or share their warmth on a cold winter’s night. They live in a sea of grief and will carry that wound for eternity. So, please God, bestow Your Tenderness and Grace especially on these families, whose loss can never be repaid. But God, I pray also for the rest of us, for we lose too. We lose what could have been, from among the most selfless, principled, promising souls of our living generations. I would gladly exchange any ten Harvard graduates for one serviceman who willingly walks at the knifepoint. He has more guts, more integrity, more fortitude and likely more resourcefulness than the lot of them combined. So, God, please let not their ultimate sacrifice be in vain. See to it that the objectives they were deployed to obtain are achieved. See to it that we have the satisfaction of realizing their mission successfully concluded. God, preserve this country for which they gave their lives, and give us all the wisdom, humility, and virtue to fully comprehend and gratefully acknowledge their sacrifices for what they are; for "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13). Amen

Memorial Day - For Freedom's Warriors

All of us denounce war -- all of us consider it man's greatest stupidity. And yet wars happen and they involve the most passionate lovers of peace because there are still barbarians in the world who set the price for peace at death or enslavement and the price is too high.
President Ronald Wilson Reagan
September 15, 1972

For those who are in the fight for freedom now, and for those who fought before, God bless you and yours. I am grateful.

Lyrics to Praise You in this Storm with thanks to SongLyrics.com

I was sure by now / That You would have reached down / And wiped our tears away / stepped in and saved the day / but once again, I say "Amen," and its still raining

As the thunder rolls / I barely hear You whisper through the rain / "I'm with you" / And as Your mercy falls / I raise my hands and praise the God who gives / And takes away

I'll Praise You in this storm / And I will lift my hands / For You are who You are / No matter where I am / Every tear I've cried / You hold in your hand / You never left my side / And though my heart is torn / I will Praise You in this storm

I remember when / I stumbled in the wind / You heard my cry / You raised me up again / My strength is almost gone / How can I carry on / If I can't Find You

As the thunder rolls / I barely hear You whisper through the rain / "I'm with you" / And as Your mercy falls / I raise my hands and praise the God that gives / And takes away

I'll Praise you in this storm / And I will lift my hands / For You are who You are / No matter where I am / Every tear I've cried / You hold in your hand / You never left my side / And though my heart is torn / I will Praise You in this storm

I lift my eyes into the hills / Where does my help come from? / My help comes from the Lord / The maker of Heaven and Earth

I lift my eyes into the hills / Where does my help come from? / My help comes from the Lord / The maker of Heaven and Earth

I'll Praise You in this storm / And I will lift my hands / For You are who You are / No matter where I am / Every tear I've cried / You hold in your hand / You never left my side / And though my heart is torn / I will Praise You in this storm

And though my heart is torn / I will Praise You in this storm

End lyrics.

Remembering SPC Holly J. McGeogh

Rosemary's Thoughts led me to They Have Names, where I found the this very personal tribute to SPC Holly McGeogh from her family and friends.

This Week's Hero

Holly J. McGeogh Name: Holly J. McGeogh Rank: SPC Service: Army State: Michigan Killed on: 31 January 2004

"When Holly arrived in Iraq in the beginning of April we didn't get our first phone call from her until the end of May. I remember asking her if she was afraid and she told me 'NO.' I told her that she had a lot more balls than me because I would be lying in the middle of the desert crying, 'I want my Mom.' We laughed so hard on the phone. That was the first time that I told Holly that she was 'My Brave Little Soldier.' Since that day in Iraq she has been known to many as my brave little soldier." Paula Zasadny (Holly's Mother)

Holly J. McGeogh was born on August 29, 1984 in Dearborn, Michigan. As a baby, her mother Paula nicknamed her "Willy," a special name they would continue to use even when Holly was in Iraq. She was quick, fearless, and got into everything when she was a little girl. One day around the age of 2 1/2 or 3, she decided that one of the family's Chinese fighting fish might make a tasty treat. In the minute or two that Paula turned to fold clothes in the living room, she managed to catch the fish from a 10-gallon tank and give it a quick taste test-she bit it in half and ate the back part. She then ran to her mother and, rubbing her tummy, let out a huge, "Mmmmmm." Paula couldn't believe it and called Poison Control (she joked that this was something she had to do often with Holly, and she knew the number by heart and even a few of the names of people working there). It turned out that the fins could be poisonous and after some ipecac syrup, Holly was ok.

Throughout her childhood, Holly continued to show a remarkable sense of courage and toughness. Her stepfather, Michael, who she called "Daddy," recalled a hunting trip they took in South Branch, Michigan when Holly was around 13 years old.

Michael: "We got to the cabin late Friday night and by the time we got the fuel burner running and the cabin warm it was time for bed. On Saturday morning I woke Holly at 5:30 AM to get ready for the hunt. There was probably about 8" of snow on the ground. We dressed pretty warm and headed for the woods.

I told Holly that there are two ways to hunt squirrels, finding a good spot and waiting for the squirrels to come to you, or walking all day looking for squirrel areas. I like to walk so that is how we proceeded. I told her what to watch for and what to listen for. The whole morning she was watching me and learning. We were probably in the woods about 20 minutes when I shot my first squirrel. Holly thought that was pretty cool, she never even saw the squirrel. So I explained to her what I heard and what I was looking for and I told her that squirrels like acorns and big trees and that you had to look at a spot and say if I were a squirrel this is where I would want to live.

I probably shot two more that she never even saw until after I shot. I just kept re-explaining what I heard and saw. She saw one and it was running and she wasn't moving very fast with the gun or even at all so I killed it. I told her when she sees a squirrel that close she has to aim and fire as quickly as possible because they are not going to stick around to see if you are going to kill them.

Later in the morning the squirrels weren't moving very much so we were just walking through the woods talking and I saw one quite a ways away in the crook of an oak tree, Holly couldn't see it and I was trying to point it out to her but she still could not locate it and after awhile I wondered if it was even a squirrel myself, or maybe I was seeing things. So I took a shot at it, guess what? It was a squirrel. Holly said, 'this isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be.'

We went and got some lunch then headed back out into the woods but in a different area where I knew there would be some big squirrels. We ended up walking there for about two hours and saw nothing. We were getting ready to go to a different spot. I was about 20 yards from Holly when I saw the biggest fox squirrel of my life. Holly was too far behind me and it was moving through some white pines so I shot that one. We probably walked for about another hour, no squirrels. On our way out of the woods a black squirrel ran right in front of us and ran up a bank on a down tree and Holly raised her gun and shot it without even thinking. She said, 'Daddy, did I get it?' I told her hell yeah you got it. So we went over to the down tree and the squirrel was just on the other side of it dead. Holly was pretty excited and cold but she did all that without thinking, just hunting......

When we returned to the cabin it was time to clean the squirrels and I thought Holly would have a problem with that. I was wrong. After showing her how to clean one squirrel she had it down-some questions while doing it but no problems doing it. She cleaned her own and two of mine. I was proud of her because I know a lot of men who couldn't clean an animal the first time without any problem.

It was a fun weekend and it was nice being able to teach Holly something. It was amazing how willing she was to go out in the cold, walk all day, and end it pulling guts out of an animal. She was about 13 years old at this time. The quality time with her was great. This is a weekend that I will never forget and cherish. Every time I am out in the woods squirrel hunting I think about her and sometimes I hunt the same spots for her."

With her endless courage, the military seemed like a place Holly was destined to be. Upon entering Truman high school in Taylor, she joined Junior ROTC (JROTC) and was in it every year until her graduation. It seemed that JROTC was her passion and she excelled in these classes, doing much better than in her regular studies. She looked up to her mentors, SGT Maj Brown, MAJ Ingham, & MSG Myers, and admired them greatly. When she graduated, she was the Company A commander.

Holly first openly expressed an interest in the military in tenth grade, but her mother responded, "oh hell no. Absolutely not!" She persisted throughout high school and after 9/11, was pushing her mother hard to join the Army. Paula finally agreed when Holly suggested, "Mom, you have always told us that you didn't care what we did as long as we did something, enjoyed doing it and we gave it our all." She knew Holly was right, so she signed the parental consent form for early enlistment and Holly joined at 17 years old.

But joining the Army was not as easy as she would have hoped. Holly had poor vision in her right eye and it took several opinions from different Ophthalmologists before she was given the 'ok' to enlist after she graduated from high school. And then came the long wait from the Army. Holly was nervous and upset about the possibility of not being able to join, but she was finally approved.

Before Holly left for basic training, she and her mother made plans for a weekend together. They went to Great Lakes Crossing, a large mall in Michigan about an hour away from Taylor. Paula recalls, "We headed to the mall on Friday after work, we were able to get a Hotel room about 1/2 mile from the mall. We went to dinner on Friday night and shopped until the stores closed. We got up Saturday morning, got some breakfast and headed back to the mall, where we spent the day. We ate dinner in the Rain Forest Café, which was really cool. I think we headed home Sunday morning. This is a VERY cool weekend. We talked a lot about the Army, her boyfriend, and a lot of just girl talk. It was GREAT !!!!! We had a great time together." Holly left for basic training at Fort Jackson on August 22, 2002, and according to many people, was one of the few soldiers who found basic training fun. Holly was a model soldier in basic training, mentoring and encouraging other soldiers. Upon graduation, her Drill SGT told Paula that Holly was one hell of a soldier and if it weren't for her, their company would not have graduated. Apparently, she was teaching the others how to get their lockers in order to pass inspection. Paula laughed and told the Drill SGT that he must not be talking about her Holly because he had never seen her room at home.

Holly stayed at Fort Jackson for Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as a light wheeled mechanic and was made assistant class leader. On January 31, 2003 Holly was assigned to the 4th Infantry division, A Company, 4th forward support Battalion at Ft. Hood, Texas. This was to be Holly's first permanent duty station. Michael said that when Holly first went into the service she told him that her goal was to help other people. During one of their last phone conversations, Michael told her that she had already met her goal. She didn't understand what he meant and he told her that she had already helped millions of people. She said, "you know Daddy, you are right, I have." He told her that she would have to come up with a new goal. She was excited about meeting her goal and told him that she still wanted to get out of the Army in 2005 and get an associates degree and go back to Officers school to either be in intelligence or psychology.

Holly received her deployment orders during the first week she was at Ft. Hood. They were to deploy by mid February. During the first week in February, Paula, Michael, and Holly's grandfather visited her before deployment. This would be the last time they would see her. Holly was deployed on April 2, 2003 to Tikrit, Iraq at one of Saddam Hussein's palaces. It would be about five or six months until they were able to establish proper restroom and shower facilities, but Holly never complained and even joked about it. She told her mom, "It's no big deal, Mom. We all smell the same." Her only complaint was that too many of the older, male soldiers were looking out for her and that she had too many fathers in Iraq. This was because Holly was always getting in trouble, trying to sneak in vehicles on raids and missions. She volunteered for everything and never wanted to be left out, even if it meant risking her own life.

Six months after being in Iraq, Paula heard on the news that a female soldier was killed in Tikrit from the 4th ID, outside of the palace gates by an IED. She did not know if this was Holly, and also knew that there were not a lot of female soldiers in her unit. She spent three days in fear. But on a Friday, she received a call at work from Holly. Paula ran outside so that she could hear and immediately started crying because Holly was alright. She could not help herself and cried on the phone. Holly became very stern and said, "Mom, stop it. If I die, you have to remember that I died doing something that I truly believe in, I died doing exactly what I want to do." And that was the end of Paula's tears. But then Holly began crying a little-the only time that her mom heard her cry while she was in Iraq. The day she called was the day that they had the memorial service for the young woman who was killed, her name was PFC Analaura Esparza Gutierrez. She was Holly's battle buddy (room mate). Holly tried to call or e-mail as much as she could, and her mom will always remember a special phone call in November.

Paula: "Holly called in the middle of the night. All phone calls that we received from her were between 2 and 6 AM. She called about 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning and we were talking about her brother, Rob, and I was telling her a funny story. Holly had a really nice car stereo that she had gotten before she went into the service. Of course, she had the big speakers and amps in the trunk of her car-you know, the ones that shake the windows as they drive by. Anyway, Rob had taken her stereo and put it in his car. I did not know this, however, Michael must have caught him doing this or seen the stereo in Rob's car and he started yelling at Rob to get it out of his car and put it back because he had not asked Holly if it was okay to take it and use it. He also told Rob that you don't take things that do not belong to you unless you ask first. So Rob took the stereo out of his car and put it back. This was what I was telling Holly on the phone in the middle of the night. Holly tells me to take $200 out of her bank account and get Rob a stereo for his car and that would be the Christmas present to Rob from her. I told her that she needed to tell Rob that herself, so I woke him up and gave him the phone. Of course, I only heard his side of the conversation but this is what I heard. 'Are you for real, Swweeeeet, that is awesome.' They talked for a few more minutes because Rob had asked her what it was like in Iraq. Then I heard the words that made me cry. 'I love you.' There was 3 years between Holly and Rob and they fought ALL of the time. I believe this was the first and only time that I heard my two kids say I love you to each other. I tried so hard to stop crying before I got back on the phone with Holly. We didn't usually have very long on the phone when she was able to call and I'm sure she did not want her to hear me cry. Rob still has that car stereo and I think it really means a lot to him. We are a very close family and I love you is used ALL of the time. This was how I raised my kids and it was always said before bed, at the end of phone conversations, and sometimes for no reason at all. Neither of my kids were/are afraid to say I love you even in front of their friends, but I had never heard the two of them say I love you to each other."

The caring and loving side of Holly extended to all those she would meet, especially the Iraqi women and children. She would constantly ask for candy to give to the kids and one afternoon taught a group of Iraqi children how to play duck, duck goose. When a group of soldiers had been asked to secure a building, Holly and a Sergeant were asked to keep the 15 or so kids inside while they searched the rest of the building. Holly and the Sergeant had all of the kids who did not speak a word of English so the communication was difficult, but Holly and the Sergeant taught the kids how to play duck, duck goose. When she told her mom this story on the phone she was so excited you could hear it in her voice. She said the kids were smiling and laughing, and she said that she had so much fun with them that afternoon. The kids began calling the game, duck, duck ali babba. When they were done playing, the kids came up to her and reached for her sunglasses and Kevlar, so she let the kids take turns wearing her stuff. It made her feel so good to bring smiles and joy to these young kids even if for only a short while.

On January 31, 2004, Holly volunteered for a 60-mile trip to Kirkuk to pick up parts. Her truck was the last vehicle in a five-vehicle convoy. An IED was planted in the middle of the road and exploded as Holly's vehicle went over it. She was killed in the attack along with CPL Juan C. Cabralbanuelos, 25, of Emporia, Kansas, and SGT Eliu Miersandoval, 27, of San Clemente, California.

Paula recounts how she heard the news, "It was the lightest tap on my door that I have ever heard in my life. I opened the door and I saw the man in the dress greens and I knew. I immediately knew. But I thought that if as long as I didn't let him in, he couldn't tell me. And then none of that would have happened. So he kept saying, 'Ma'am I need to come in.' And I kept telling him, 'I'm sorry, but you can't come in.'

And then I finally looked at him and stared crying and I said, 'she's wounded isn't she? She's wounded.' And he said, 'Ma'am, I have to come in.'

He told us that the Humvee that she was driving rolled over an IED and they detonated it with a garage door opener. And I remember all I cared about at that time-those first few days-was that at least she was going to come home.

At least I was going to get to see her, I hadn't seen her in a year. I couldn't wait to twirl her hair in my fingers. Then the Army told me it was impossible, that I couldn't see her. The casket had to be closed. So I never got to even say good-bye to her, I had to say good-bye to a casket."

The funeral Mass for Holly took place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wyandotte, Michigan with Bishop John Quinn, the Rev. T.J. Moloney of St. Joseph and the Rev. Festus Ejimadu of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Romulus-where McGeogh was baptized-officiating. She is buried at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown Township.

Holly was to be promoted to Specialist on February 1, 2004, the day after she was killed. She was posthumously promoted, and her mother was presented with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm ordered that United States flags throughout the state of Michigan and on Michigan waters be lowered on Thursday February 5, 2004, in honor of Holly. Two week after she was killed the Zasadny's received cards from Holly. The couple was later interviewed for the HBO documentary, Last Letters Home, where they read the following letters.

Holly's Card to Michael: Dad, Hi Daddy! How's it going? I'm doing good. I want you to know that I couldn't ask for a better father. I don't think it's possible. I want to say thank you for everything that you have done. You mean the world to all of us. I know things have been hard for all you guys and I'm sorry for that. But this is my job and what I live for. I know that you understand that. When I get home I would like to go up north, just me and you. Like before when I left to go. We can go hunting or canoeing, depending on the weather. Well, just remember-you are best dad in the world. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Love always, Holly.

Holly's Card to Paula: Mom, Hey Momma. I just want to say that I hope you do have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. I know it won't be the same. It is gonna be different for me-my first Christmas ever by myself. I gotta be strong and so do you, so please put on the Santa hat and have some fun. If you decide to get drunk, drink some Captain Morgan's spiced rum and doctor pepper for me, ok? Remember, when I get back we are going to go shopping and get pampered. A whole week together and you are not gonna need those pills anymore, so we can throw them out, ok? But anyways I love you with all my heart and I couldn't ask for a better mom because I've got the best one in the world already. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I love you with all my heart, Willy.

Paula and Michael are the embodiment of good-natured people, and it is easy to see where Holly got her strength, courage, and sense of love towards others. After the interview with the HBO crew, the Zasadnys cooked them all dinner.

Since Holly's death many friends and family have reflected on what a special young woman she was. The following quotes are taken from blogs and Internet sites where people have left messages for Holly.

"Holly, I really do not know what words could express my empathy for your family and friends. You were dedicated to the service even in high school. Those are memories I myself will not forget. You are a true and honorable person. Brave, courageous, and dedicated. God Bless You and all those like you." Jennifer O'Shay of Taylor, MI USA

"Holly I still remember the first day I met you in 9th grade in homeroom, I was new to Truman and you were just so nice to me. I remember all the times when our lockers were next to each other when I was upset about something you always made me laugh I miss that and I miss you, you were so brave and I will never forget you. To a very brave soldier you are missed" Tiffany of new boston/taylor

"God bless you Holly! I just heard of the ultimate sacrifice you made for our country. I remember you since Ft. Jackson with that funny looking smile. Class 05 B Delta Dogs LEAD THE WAY! God Bless the ones you left behind. You will never be forgotten Girl." SGT. Luis Avendano 1-143 Field Artillery 40th ID of Sacramento CA

"Dear Private First Class McGeogh, First of all, I want to thank you for the sacrifices you have made for your country, family, friends and unit. I want to tell you that your death was not in vain. Because of you, the 4th SB and the 4th ID have implemented a completely new type of training to deal with the threat of IEDs. I am currently assigned to Aco. 4th Support Battalion as you were. As we get nearer to our redeployment to Iraq, we go there with more training and knowledge on all subjects. For that, I especially want to thank you. I have one of the most dangerous jobs in the unit. I am the Battalion's 6 Delta. I am glad that I had the opportunity to receive the training, that if it weren't for you, would never have happened. Please know that most of your NCOs are still here and mention you often. You will forever be remembered here at the Packhorse. "PACKHORSE SUPPORT"" PFC Barbuch PH6D of Aco.4SB, 4ID Ft.Hood, TX

"Hey Holly I miss you so much, it has been 1 year 3 months and 2 days since you died. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about you. I still get very angry that you left me even though it isn't your fault. I just wanted to have Army stories with you. Hell I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. I still wonder how I am going to make it without you. I still cry, not as much, but I do. You were my best friend and I was yours. No one has ever cared for me as much as you did. I just miss talking to you so much. I miss all our crazy adventures we used to go on trying to find Frank and Shane and all the guts you use to have that I didn't. I miss the fact that you were never scared to make Frank mad, and how you use to think I was dumb for caring what Shane thought. I miss you so much, you made me a strong person. I thank you so much for all you have given me. I wish you were here. I will see you soon. I remember all the days we skipped school to do nothing we really didn't even have a reason to skip we just did. I miss you and love you so much Holly, no one here knows how much!" Helena (Hollys Best Friend) of Babenhausen, Germany and Taylor, MI

"To the Zasadny/McGeogh Family, I was the second senior ranking person on the convoy that took your daughter's life. Since that fateful day in January, not a single day has gone by that I do not think of SPC McGeogh, SGT Cabral, and SGT Sandoval and I always second guess if there was anything we could have done to prevent what happened. When I picked up the pictures that Holly always carried with her I could not help but be overcome with emotion on how proud a family Holly belonged. From the pictures I could tell that you not only supported your daughter but you supported what she was doing, and that is rare in these ages, I commend you for you patriotage. I thank you for raising such a brave and dedicated young woman. Since the day I met her, 4 weeks before the convoy, you could tell that she prided herself on accomplishing her mission and helping her fellow soldiers. Ma'am words cannot begin to express the sorrow I feel for you and your family; I am proud to have served with your daughter. Sincerely," John Lopez of Killeen, TX

"Holly, You were the greatest girl I've ever met. You always pushed me to do my best in JROTC. If not for you I don't think that I would have come as far as I have. I mean, you gave me my first push ups. I miss you so much, thank you for every thing that you have done. You're one of the bravest people I know. Your family will always be in my prayers. And to Paula and Mike, you guys did an awesome job raising your daughter, God bless you" Nikki Campbell of Taylor, MI

"To the family of Holly McGeogh: I was in Tikrit with your daughter. I remember taking her on a mission with us. It was so hot and I was in my vehicle, miserable with all the flies and sand around me- but I could hear Holly's laughter in the very next vehicle enjoying just talking with one of our soldiers. It was infectious. She was such a happy girl and will be missed. God bless you all." SGT LeAndra Pedersen of Woodland Hills, CA

"Holly and I grew up together. She was a great person always happy and joking around. She was so fun to be around. I am so proud of everything that she has done. She is one of the bravest people I know. We are lucky to have people like her serving our country. Holly is and will forever be my hero. Holly I love you and will forever miss you." Miranda of Novi, MI

"Dear Holly J McGeogh I don't know where to begin. I remember you walking though the halls of Truman High School and in class with me as if it were yesterday. Then we both joined the United States Army, you as a mech. and me as a Military Police Officer, which takes a lot to do. Especially to go to war and defend the world from terrorism. Plus I can remember the last time I saw you at the chow hall in Tikrit Iraq. Seeing you smiling and joking with me about our time at Truman High School and how our lives were going in the Army. I will never forget you as a brave soldier and as a friend in school. Rest in Peace and God Bless your family through this hard time. Peace, Love, and Respect Your friend and Fellow Soldier PFC Anthony L. Boike Truman c/o 2002" PFC Anthony L. Boike of Taylor MI, depolyed in Tikrit Iraq

From Holly's boyfriend, SPC Sergio Cardenas, in an e-mail to Paula: Paula, Hey it's me Sergio, just got off the phone with you and your husband. I'm sorry sorry that this happen and I wish that I would turn back the hands of time to keep Holly here with us. I miss her so much that it hurts every time that I think about her. She was a very close friend and I loved her a lot and miss her even more. She was one of those girls that came into your life and changed it for you. I just wanted to thank you for having a great daughter and blessing me to meet her. She had plans that she wanted to do and she always told the one thing that she wanted to do was get out of the Army and go to school and have a great time being in school, and coming back to the army as an officer so she can change a lot of things that she didn't like. I'm so sorry that this happened to a great and beautiful girl like her. If I could, I would give myself to the LORD so she could come back. Paula, she said that you were the best parents the she had and always talked about you and your husband. I will never forget the beautiful smile that lit the room up and the laugh that she had that I love to hear. The way she would try to say my name in Spanish but couldn't say it right because she could roll her R's. I just want to thank you once again for bringing her in to this world and letting me meet her and have shared my heart with her. I thank you with all my heart. One more thing Paula, you have to be strong and know that she is with you every min. every hour, every day of your life and she will always be with us looking over us and keeping us safe. Your friend Sergio

In an e-mail, Paula said, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I miss Holly. I am left with having a huge emptiness in my heart and the excruciating pain of missing my baby. I know that there is nothing in life that will take the pain away or end the missing of her. That is the part that sucks. I am grateful that I had 19 GREAT years with my daughter and I also know that I was very fortunate to have her for 19 years; some parents lose their kids when they are very young. I would give anything to be able to get a hug from Holly or to hear the words "I love you Mom". I am very proud of my daughter for her sacrifice to our great nation. I thank our troops for ALL their sacrifices and for watching over my family and me day and night, keeping us safe. I am very proud to be American. My daughter and all of our fallen are my HEROES !!!!!

The license plate on her truck is a military plate that reads, "W1LLY."

In May 2007, the city of Taylor, Michigan presented the "Lest They Be Forgotten" Memorial in front of City Hall, dedicated to Holly. Paula has worked with the Lest They Be Forgotten organization, helping fund, and dedicate memorials to other fallen soldiers.

The following poem, Tribute to Courage, by James Elston, seems like a fitting way to honor Holly's sacrifice, Tribute to Courage Courage is doing what is right Without having to be told Courage is manning up When you know you've done something wrong Courage is looking the enemy in the eye And telling them to just bring it Courage is having fear But still staying strong Courage is facing adversary But being able to overcome it Courage is leaving your family behind To defend the country you love Courage is being a soldier In the greatest Army in the world Thank you for this courage That lets us live free May God bless you And come home safely to your families

Holly did not come home, but her courage did. Rest in peace "brave little soldier," you are a lasting example to inspire those who seek courage, sacrifice, and love.

Mark Steyn's 'Loss of Proportion'

The following is a portion (roughly the last half - with no changes to text sequence) of Mark Steyn's 2004 Memorial Day reflection. (Emphasis in red text is mine).

The Loss of Proportion
Memorial Day, 2004

All wars are messy, and many of them seem small and unworthy even at the moment of triumph. The sight of unkempt lice-infested Saddam Hussein yanked from his spider hole last December is not so very different from the published reports of Jefferson Davis’ capture in May 1865, when he was said to be trying to skulk away in women's clothing, and spent the next several months being depicted by gleeful Northern cartoonists in hoop skirts, petticoats and crinolines (none of which he was actually wearing).

But, conquered and captured, an enemy shrivels, and you question what he ever had that necessitated such a sacrifice. The piercing clarity of war shades into the murky greys of post-war reconstruction. You think Iraq's a quagmire? Lincoln's "new birth of freedom" bogged down into a century-long quagmire of segregation, denial of civil rights, lynchings. Does that mean the Civil War wasn't worth fighting? That, as Al Gore and other excitable types would say, Abe W. Lincoln lied to us?

Like the French Resistance, tiny in its day but of apparently unlimited manpower since the war ended, for some people it's not obvious which side to be on until the dust's settled. New York, for example, resisted the Civil War my small town's menfolk were so eager to enlist in. The big city was racked by bloody riots against the draft. And you can sort of see the rioters' point. More than 600,000 Americans died in the Civil War - or about 1.8 percent of the population. Today, if 1.8 percent of the population were killed in war, there would be 5.4 million graves to decorate on Decoration Day.

But that's the difference between then and now: the loss of proportion. They had victims galore back in 1863, but they weren't a victim culture. They had a lot of crummy decisions and bureaucratic screw-ups worth re-examining, but they weren't a nation that prioritized retroactive pseudo-legalistic self-flagellating vaudeville over all else. They had hellish setbacks but they didn't lose sight of the forest in order to obsess week after week on one tiny twig of one weedy little tree.

There is something not just ridiculous but unbecoming about a hyperpower 300 million strong whose elites - from the deranged former vice president down - want the outcome of a war, and the fate of a nation, to hinge on one freaky jailhouse; elites who are willing to pay any price, bear any burden, as long as it's pain-free, squeaky-clean and over in a week. The sheer silliness dishonors the memory of all those we're supposed to be remembering this Memorial Day.

Playing by Gore-Kennedy rules, the Union would have lost the Civil War, the rebels the Revolutionary War, and the colonists the French and Indian Wars. There would, in other words, be no America. Even in its grief, my part of New Hampshire understood that 141 years ago. We should, too.

Homegrown Terrorists Beaten-Down by "Citizen Activists"

A "hat tip" to Jim Simpson and Truth and Consequences for the apt anointing of "some of our own" as "Homegrown Terrorists." (Related: Homegrown Terrorists: Part 1 and Homegrown Terrorists for President: Part II.)

I want to be clear that in the piece below, American's for Legal Immigration are NOT implying that Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) is a homegrown terrorist, or that her fellow-Democrat-schemers are homegrown terrorists. Such implication is completely mine, as well as all "emphasized text." (h/t to FaultlineUSA who urged us to contact our Senators and say "NO Stealth Amnesty").

This announcement today from American's for Legal Immigration:

Friends,

Over the last hour, three US Senate office staff members have called to share good news with us.

You kept your momentum up as we asked you to with the calls to the US Senate. Again, our strategies and messaging was applied en masse with great effect.

Our friends in DC are pleased to tell us that Senator Mikulski's (D-MD) H2B Visa provisions have also been pulled from the Iraq War Funding bill. Thus, all immigration language is gone from this bill and we have won this round!

We want to salute all of the great organizations out there that have worked side-by-side in solidarity, to defeat our opposition this time.

We want to thank the heroic and brave talk radio show hosts and commentators like Lou Dobbs and Michelle Malkin who carried our banner to the forefront. There are so many to thank, I hate to even mention names. It was like an army mustering quickly, when the call came.

We want to thank all the bloggers and web runners who carried the warnings across the Net like a fleet of Paul Revere's on a desperate ride to wake the nation.

We want to thank the lawmakers in DC that did their jobs and stood with the public in opposition to this. Many of their staff members are true loyalists to our cause.

But most of all, we must thank our citizen activists. You are the Americans from all races and walks of life that have stood tall and unified and told these sellouts in DC "No!"

You have prepared for these battles, you have given of your time and funds during perilous times, you have practiced your skills, you engaged the enemy and have emerged victorious again.

It is a great honor to stand with you in these battles to save our nation. Thank you for heeding the call and moving in unison with our strategies.

Here's the background from American's for Legal Immigration, May 22, 2008:
'I am pleased Democratic leaders realized there would be opposition'

Democratic leaders in the U.S. Senate have stripped 100 pages of controversial immigration provisions added as amendments to the supplemental Iraq war funding bill after a flood of e-mails and phone calls organized by amnesty opponents.

"The American people have been clear that they want us to restore the rule of law to our immigration system before legalization programs are considered, but I guess this Congress didn't get the message," Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said yesterday.

"I am pleased Democratic leaders realized there would be significant opposition to these controversial provisions," Sessions continued. "Stripping it was the right thing to do."

Among the provisions removed from the war funding bill was a special path to citizenship for four subgroups of immigrant agriculture workers: goat herders, sheep herders, dairy workers and horse herders. It is unclear why the groups were selected for special treatment.
May 21, 2008, ALI printed the following from WorldNetDaily:
Jerome R. Corsi
WorldNetDaily.com

"It is unjustifiable to arbitrarily single out four groups of workers and create a special path to citizenship for an unknown number of goat herders, sheep herders, dairy workers and horse workers," Sessions said.

One immigration proposal remains in the second part of the Iraq supplemental funding bill which has not yet come up on the Senate floor for discussion.

That amendment, sponsored by Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., would create an extension of three years for a worker returning under an H-2B visa, which Mikulski claims is necessary to save seasonal businesses such as seafood companies.

Opponents charged the immigration amendments attached to the Iraq war supplemental funding bill were a back door to amnesty.

"We must be realistic about what will happen at the end of the five-year period," Sessions said about the visa extensions proposed for immigrant agricultural workers. "Pro-amnesty forces know that if they can get a temporary legalization for workers, the federal government won't have the will five years from now to do what it won't do today – enforce the law. Congress will likely turn a blind eye and a path to citizenship will result."

Border security proponents were concerned pro-illegal immigration forces were trying to pass comprehensive immigration reform piece-by-piece, after having twice failed to pass omnibus immigration reform laws co-sponsored by Sens. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., and John McCain, R-Ariz.

Groups such as Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum organized telephone and e-mail campaigns objecting to the tactic of sneaking amnesty provisions into an Iraq war supplemental funding bill needed to support U.S. military forces in the field.

How McCain Can Beat Jimmy Obama

Dan Calabrese from North Star Writers Group says today: "The Democrats are about to nominate Jimmy Obama." Calabrese lays out two issues that will allow McCain to gain sufficient votes from Hillary supporters to claim the White House for the GOP. (Related: Calabrese broke Hillary Clinton conspired to violate the U.S. Constitution. Jim Simpson at Truth and Consequences - two important posts: Homegrown Terrorists: Part 1 and Homegrown Terrorists for President: Part II.)

How McCain Can Win Hillary’s Voters, and Defeat Jimmy Obama By Dan Calabrese May 22, 2008
Barack Obama is so amazing, he gets closer to clinching the Democratic presidential nomination every time Hillary Clinton creams him in a primary – as she did on Tuesday in Kentucky. It’s too late, of course, for these huge wins in predominantly white, working-class states to help Hillary. But if John McCain is paying attention, Hillary may be doing him the favor of all favors – with a huge assist from Obama himself, of course. Obama’s recent policy statements, viewed in the context of demographic trends in Democratic primaries, point the way to a McCain victory. White working-class voters, as well as older voters, have gone for Hillary in huge numbers. That’s why she’s won states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia so handily. If Michigan’s primary had been a real contest, the result may very well have been the same. Let’s look at three of those states. Ohio’s 20 electoral votes barely went for President Bush in 2004. Pennsylvania’s 21 and Michigan’s 17 went for John Kerry. If McCain holds Ohio in the red category and manages to steal either Pennsylvania or Michigan, he probably wins the election. If he holds Ohio and steals both Pennsylvania and Michigan, McCain wins without a doubt. Here’s how he can do it: Obama has recently made two astoundingly wrongheaded statements. First, he opined that Iran is not really much of a threat to the United States. Second, he said the following to a group of environmentalists in Oregon: “We can't drive our SUVs and, you know, eat as much as we want and keep our homes on, you know, 72 degrees at all times, whether we're living in the desert or we're living in the tundra, and then just expect every other country is going to say OK, you know, you guys go ahead keep on using 25 percent of the world's energy, even though you only account for 3 percent of the population, and we'll be fine. Don't worry about us.” So, to recap, Islamic radicals who openly vow the destruction of Israel and are aggressively pursuing the development of nuclear weapons are not much of a threat. And American prosperity is no longer possible because “other countries” won’t accept it. The Democrats are about to nominate Jimmy Obama. Remember when Obama’s campaign slogan was “Yes, We Can!”? Apparently that didn’t refer to the continuation of the American dream in any practical sense. We can’t. Other countries say so. Presumably, then, “Yes, We Can!” refers to allowing apocalyptic-minded nutcases to gain control of the most dangerous weapons in the world. In fact, Obama is even willing to go personally meet with these lunatics – without pre-conditions. Why will the world’s thugs need Jimmy Carter anymore? Hugo Chavez and Kim Jong Il won’t need to settle for a disrespected former president from a generation ago when they can get an audience with the current occupant of the White House. If McCain hammers these two themes, he will win enough of Hillary’s voters to win the White House: 1. We can drive SUVs, eat the food we want and heat our homes to our hearts’ content, if we unleash America’s ability to create wealth, make wise use of its resources and empower individuals to improve their own lives. It has nothing to do with “other countries.” We have to do some things better and smarter, but there is no reason in the world that America has to resign itself to austerity, and certainly not because other countries aren’t going to “say OK.” Good grief. Remember when John Kerry said he wanted to submit America’s foreign policy decisions to other countries in the form of a “global test”? Remember how that went over? Obama wants to do the same thing with our domestic policies! 2. America has to take serious threats seriously, and not give away its strategic positioning or its international prestige to thugs who don’t deserve it. Read more here.

Homegrown Terrorists for President; Part II

In the last installment I asserted that Hillary Clinton remains a greater threat as a potential presidential candidate than Barack Obama, and that she will likely get the nomination in the end. Despite Obama’s recent primary wins, and the pundits’ widespread agreement that Hillary’s candidacy is all but lost, I am not willing to write her off, and won’t until a stake is buried irrevocably into the heart of that bloodless vampire’s candidacy. One cannot underestimate the dishonest, duplicitous, Machiavellian nature of today’s Democrat party, nor of the Clintons’ uncanny ability to resurrect themselves. We can only hope... A friend involved in campaign finance recently noted poll results that in the Pennsylvania primary, “nearly 30% of the Democrats who voted for [Hillary] would vote for McCain if that was their choice. Only 8% of her Pennsylvania supporters claimed they would go to Obama. Another chunk said they would stay home and something like 30+% said they were undecided.” Results in West Virginia reflected similar sentiments. While he has won the majority of primaries and the popular vote, Obama’s support remains very thin. This fact will be borne out again in today’s (Tuesday, May 20, 2008) Kentucky primary. What is most striking about this campaign has been the wholesale renovation in Hillary’s public image. It borders on the surreal. She is widely viewed, even among Republicans, as the more moderate candidate. Polls show, for example that working class democrats, the supposed “Reagan democrats” have voted overwhelmingly for Hillary in recent primaries. A lot of Republicans, I am afraid, would be relieved to have her in place of Obama. What did she ever do to deserve this? Answer: she voted for the War in Iraq. Of all the trite reasons to earn her the mantle “moderate.” Senate Democrats voted for the war 29 to 23, and in the Senate, Democrats were the majority party. They could have stopped the whole show in its tracks if they had really wanted. But this was an easy vote and the wiser one politically. War spirits were high following 9-11 and there was a widespread public feeling that Saddam needed to be removed. Democrats were on record decrying Saddam’s illegal stockpile of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), before G.W. Bush was even elected. President Clinton repeatedly warned Saddam to stop producing WMD. Why does no one remember this? Finally, Democrat senators who voted against the war were reflexive anti-war flakes like Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy and Paul Wellstone. The Clintons are and always have been acutely aware of political winds, and shift position accordingly. You can call this self-serving political calculus, which of course, it is. But it is also the type of tactical machinations typical of communists. Hillary Clinton has been paid back in spades by that one small defiance of liberal groupthink, in that she is now considered “moderate,” or absurdly, sometimes even “conservative.” Of course, the reality is quite different. Little has been made of it, and Republicans seem to be suffering from amnesia, but Hillary has radical connections that dwarf those of Obama. Indeed, she has had a lifelong involvement with organizations of the American radical left. And those groups have supported terrorists worldwide since Lenin's Bolsheviks launched the Third Communist International in 1919.

Start with her college thesis on radical organizer Saul Alinsky, which you can read in its entirety HERE. Among other things, Alinsky wrote Rules for Radicals, a how-to manual for forcing political change. Hillary’s main difference with Alinsky was tactical, in that she thought it possible to work within the "system" to accomplish these goals.

At Yale, she was introduced to Charles R. Garry, chief counsel and spokesman for the Black Panther Party, and as part of a class project arranged by her leftist law professor, "Tommy the Commie" Emerson, assisted in the defense of Bobby Seale and other Panthers then on trial in New Haven for the torture/murder of one of their own. The project was to monitor the trial for civil rights violations. According to Newsmax:

Hillary took charge of the operation, scheduling the students in shifts, so that student monitors would always be present in the courtroom... Some believe that the enormous pressure exerted by the Left helped ensure light sentences for the New Haven Nine. Whether or not this is true, the punishments were mild.

The article goes on to quote the Washington Times that:

‘The gunman, Warren Kimbro, got a Harvard scholarship and became an assistant dean at Eastern Connecticut State College...' And 'Ericka Huggins, who boiled the water for Mr. Rackley's torture, got elected to a California school board.’

Doesn't that explain a lot about the condition of our public schools! Hillary's efforts earned her an internship with lifelong radical and longtime communist party attorney, Robert Treuhaft, also deeply involved in defending the Panthers. One can observe it was only an "internship." But why intern for a communist if you weren't interested in the movement? More to the point, why would a prominent communist lawyer agree to mentor someone who wasn't already a communist? As I have explained in an earlier post, Communists don't waste their time with non-communists. There is no percentage in it for them and it can be a security risk. Okay, so what? A radical in college. Weren't we all? Well, no, but nothing changed after that. Her entire adult life has been committed to radical leftist causes, causes which at best see terrorists as modern-day "minutemen" and at worst, aid and abet them with political influence, legal and sometimes monetary support. She graduated from Yale Law School in 1973. A mere one year later, as a staff lawyer for the House of Representatives Nixon impeachment inquiry, she was actively and deeply involved in efforts to subvert the entire process, activities for which she was fired. The entire episode was mindboggling, and has been covered extensively both by her Watergate boss, then Judiciary Committee chief lawyer, Jerry Zeifman, and in The Truth about Hillary, a book by former New York Times Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Ed Klein. With eye-popping gall, she blatantly ignored the guidance of Zeifman, Judiciary Committee Chairman Peter Rodino, House Speaker Carl Albert and Majority Leader Tip O'Neill. Hillary wrote a memo which recommended denying President Nixon the right to counsel – this from a supposed champion of civil rights - and then conspired to steal and hide court documents supporting this right! Zeifman knew of Hillary’s position beforehand, had explained the leadership’s views, and explicitly told her not to write such a memo, extracting a promise from her not to. In his own words, “She lied.” She also recommended the House not hold hearings or depose live witnesses, or conduct any independent investigation – relying instead on prior investigations. She even went so far as to suggest that House rules should be changed to deny any Judiciary Committee members the right to question witnesses! Every single recommendation was shot down. Finally, she violated House rules on confidentiality by discussing the issue with her Yale law professor, Burke Marshall, who apparently gave her the ideas. There is much more, too much to cover in this article. You can see it all here. Interestingly, the Wikipedia entry for Hillary Clinton, while covering most of her life in extensive and generally flattering detail, does not even mention her involvement in the Watergate hearings, an amazing omission, given its importance. Also, her major partner in crime on the Watergate committee was Bernard Nussbaum, also fired from the committee. Nussbaum later gained notoriety as the White House counsel who prevented investigators from searching Vince Foster’s office immediately following his death, and was accused by a Secret Service officer of removing documents. Birds of a feather, apparently. The aforementioned Ed Klein believes that a major motivation in Hillary’s duplicity was to prevent Nixon from exposing the far worse crimes of the Kennedy Administration. In the 1970s she also developed a friendship with Robert Borosage, one of the most notorious leftists in the United States. From 1979 to 1988 Borosage ran the Institute for Policy Studies, a long-time leftist think tank and communist front, whose Washington, D.C. office has been a gathering place for Cuban and Soviet agents. Chilean diplomat and undercover Cuban agent Orlando Letelier worked out of the IPS office until his assassination in 1974. Both Hillary and Bill have had extensive connections to this group, as documented by WorldNetDaily, here. In 1977 President Carter appointed Hillary to the board of the Legal Services Corporation and in 1978 elevated her to Board Chair. LSC was created by Congress in 1974 ostensibly to provide legal assistance to the poor. Instead it became a hotbed of leftist political activity, with funds being used to support left wing political candidates and causes. Hillary presided over the greatest growth and some of the most notorious abuses in that organization's history, abuses which prompted President Reagan to attempt to abolish it in the first year of his presidency. FrontPageMagazine says it best:

Under Mrs. Clinton's leadership, LSC's annual budget more than tripled, from $90 million to $321 million. LSC used these taxpayer funds in a variety of ways, most notably to print political training manuals showing "how community organizations and public interest groups can win political power and resources," and to finance training programs that taught political activists how to harass their opposition. (Emph. mine) On one occasion, LSC contributed money to a mayor's political campaign in Georgia on the pretext that those funds were being spent on "a project to educate clients about their rights and the legislative process." During Hillary Clinton's years on the LSC board, the Corporation also worked to defeat a California referendum that would have cut state income taxes in half; called for the U.S. government to give two-thirds of the state of Maine to American Indians; paid Marxist orators and folk singers in a campaign against the Louisiana Wildlife Commission; joined a Michigan campaign to recognize "Black English" as an official language; and sought to force the New York City Transit Authority to hire former heroin addicts so as to avoid "discriminat[ing]" against "minorities" who were "handicapped." As the 1980 presidential election drew near, and it became clear that Ronald Reagan might defeat the incumbent Jimmy Carter, LSC redirected massive amounts of its public funding into an anti-Reagan letter-writing campaign by indigent clients. After Reagan was elected in November 1980, LSC immediately laundered its money -- some $260 million -- into state-level agencies and private groups so as to keep it away from the board that Reagan would eventually appoint. Hillary Clinton left LSC in 1981.

These are the kinds of corrupt, duplicitous tactics Hillary Clinton, at age 30, was already adept at and willing to use to further her radical left agenda. The LSC is study in and of itself -- a model of how Leftist forces in this country use taxpayer funds to support their activities and keep fringe leftists gainfully employed. Reagan attempted to zero out the LSC budget, but predictably, Democrats in Congress, with the assistance of the American Bar Association, rallied to its cause. His efforts ultimately did lead to investigations into the agency and a significant curtailing of both its abuses and its budget. Since then, funding for the organization has ebbed and flowed with the political fortunes of the left in Congress and the White House. Reagan and subsequent Republican administrations and Congresses have managed to reign in the LSC somewhat, but its rank and file remain firmly planted in the Left. Hillary makes a big deal about her support for "children's issues," including penning "It Takes a Village." (At least she takes credit for writing it, although it was probably ghost-written, like so many other Democrats' books. But what would that matter? They all say the same thing and nobody reads them anyway.) Her views on children were first developed through her association with Marian Wright Edelman, the hard left founder of the Children's Defense Fund. As a researcher with the Carnegie Council on Children, a job she secured through her association with Edelman, Hillary helped produce the report, "All Our Children," which, according to Discover the Networks:

advocated a dramatic expansion of social welfare entitlements and a national guaranteed income -- all in the name of children's rights. Moreover, the report maintained that the traditional nuclear family was not inherently better than any other family structure, and that society had an obligation to honor, encourage, and support alternate family structures such as single-parent households. What really mattered, said the Council, was the network of professionals -- teachers, pediatricians, social workers, and day-care workers -- who would collectively play the most vital role in raising children properly. In short, the Carnegie Council preached that childrearing was less a parental matter than a societal task to be overseen by "public advocates" -- judges, bureaucrats, social workers and other "experts" in childrearing -- who could intervene between parents and children on the latter's behalf. According to the report, the role of parents should be subordinate to the role of these experts. (Emphases, mine.)

Doesn't this make you shudder? Hillary’s philosophies on children and the family show the marked influence of Antonio Gramsci, a prominent Italian communist whose writings heavily influenced her hero, Saul Alinsky as well. Gramsci believed that Western society could be undermined gradually and made ripe for communism through corruption of its cultural and religious institutions, especially the nuclear family. The Clintons helped restore Jean-Bertrand Aristede to power in Haiti in 1994, using the American military to do so. Aristede was a hard-core communist who advocated use of the “necklace” on political enemies. “Necklacing” was a quaint device dreamed up in South Africa, where ANC guerillas would place a tire around the neck of opponents, douse it with gas and set it aflame. The Clintons’ beloved fellow “Democrat” was finally forced to flee Haiti in 2004, when his increasingly tyrannical methods, which included liberal use of the “necklace,” became too much for practically everyone on the island. Liberals used to remind me he was a “catholic priest,” but even then his true nature was apparent. Plenty of catholic priests have fallen under the spell of “Liberation Theology” and Aristede was no different. He probably would have gotten along well with the pedophiles too. We are all familiar with the endless Hillary scandals during the Clinton presidency: Billing Gate (lost Rose Law Firm billing records), Cattle Gate (insider trading on cattle futures) Filegate (FBI files kept on prominent Republicans), Travelgate (vicious political vendetta against low level White House travel staff), and so on. You can read a dated but entertaining listing of all the Clintons’ various “Gates” here, however few are aware of Hillary’s secret war against conservative internet bloggers. You can get a taste of that stuff here. This was a documented effort by the Clinton machine to muzzle conservative internet revelations about all their nefarious dealings. And there is little doubt a Hillary administration would move heaven and earth to accomplish what the Clintons failed to do before. Hillary’s “Be careful what you wish for, Rush,” warning to Rush Limbaugh was not an idle threat. And if all of this isn’t enough for you, remember that Bill Clinton pardoned convicted Puerto Rican terrorists to help Hillary win the Latino vote in her New York senatorial campaign, never mind Hillary kissing Suha Arafat, wife of PLO leader Yasser Arafat! Note that I haven’t even gotten into the Clintons’ involvement with the Lippo Group, Chinese Communists, and Bill Clinton’s treasonous disclosures to the Communist Chinese of top secret nuclear weapons technology. There is just too much! The history of Hillary’s involvement with the radical left is extensive. What I have divulged here is the tip of the iceberg. That it gets little play in the mass media is only due to the sad fact that many in the media are of the same mind. Despite all the mixed messages, despite the occasional appearances of compromise and moderation, Hillary remains firmly committed to a communist future for this country. Never forget, the communist tactic is to do anything that will assure their ultimate victory. This includes proclaiming abiding faith in God, denouncing fellow communists (like Obama’s Weather Underground terrorist friend, William Ayers), even supporting the Second Amendment. Yes, Hillary was quoted by the Des Moines Register (as given on Alphecca.com): “I support the Second Amendment. Law-abiding citizens should be able to own guns…” Despite hilarious attempts to delude gun owners with such statements, she wants all your guns. It is the only way she and her ilk can be assured of enforcing their way without serious resistance. Hillary is a committed, hardcore communist, in the Bolshevik tradition. And if you’ve studied them as I have, you come to recognize that they are really more like insects than humans. Like a colony of army ants on the move, they destroy anything before them. Anything is allowable in pursuit of communism and anyone in the way is a potential target. That is why Hillary laughs with that inhuman cackle – because to become a committed communist you have to lose your humanity. It is the only way to deal emotionally with what you are doing. The rest of us mean nothing to her, and thus to engage us as though we do, and appear as a normal human is of necessity a stage act, and Hillary is a lousy actor. Barack Obama as President would be a horrendous repeat of Jimmy Carter buffoonery, but with a more unified, effective left to promote his policies. We might possibly recover. As a much more effective, well-connected, devious, and ruthless person, however, Hillary would bring this country to the brink of disaster, and probably push it over the edge.
