All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Carolyn Kilpatrick together again. Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich-13th) lost her primary bid with Congressional heavyweights propagandizing in overtime for the 14-term People's Representative. Democrat challenger Hansen Clarke will now face Republican John Hauler for the People's seat from Michigan. See a video below.
In the 72 hours before the polls opened, Democrat icons of the Black Caucus showed up for Kilpatick: Representatives James Clyburn (D-SC), Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Rev. Jesse Jackson and Luis Guiterriz (D-IL). Kilpatrick aligned her campaign in lockstep with Barack Obama, speaking at Government Motors, praised Carolyn as a "wonderful congresswoman." Hansen Clarke, didn't run a single television ads.
In the money race, Kilpatrick raised more than $1 million this cycle, and had $280,000 left in her campaign coffers on July 14, according to her Federal Election Commission report. Clarke has raised more than $130,000 and had $71,000 banked for the final stretch of the campaign.
AnnArbor.com has posted an interview with John Hauler. In the video below he speaks on the issues. Democrats are expected to keep District 13's House seat.
