Re-create 68, Operation Chaos, and Rush Limbaugh

Photo Credit: Rush Limbaugh. A contrast in character and integrity: Rush has it, Moyers and Wright don't. This is a great photo, and I admit, not relevant to Susan's post - just a terrific photo!

There are not many people that Democratic supporters despise quite as much as they do Rush Limbaugh. He has been often criticized for his outrageous statements. He has done it again by saying, "I'm dreaming of riots in Denver." Not long ago, I remember reading about an organization called Re-create 68, which is a group of people that want to protest at the Democratic convention that will be held on August 24-28, 2008, in Denver Colorado.

The significance of the Re-create 68 name, is that it refers to the Democratic convention of 1968, held in Chicago, Illinois, and which was rife with such protests from Democratic supporters and police actions, that as television cameras filmed, over 100 police officers and 100 demonstrators were injured and over 500 people arrested.

Outside the official convention proceedings, anti-war demonstrators clashed with 11,900 Chicago police, 7500 Army troops, 7500 Illinois National Guardsmen and 1000 Secret Service agents over 5 days.
The Re-Create 68 site has a page they call street tactics with helpful hints for those that want to participate in protesting the August Democratic Convention. These tactics cover with PDF files, direct action vs voting, planning direct actions, an action planning manual, scouting manual, questions about civil disobedience, a video camera training manual, shields, walls and other useful tricks and wheat pasting.

This site, by its very name and stated intent is to re-create an event that was one of the most violent Democratic protest with party supporters protesting Democratic politicians, and yet the site, their goal and their intentions have gone largely ignored.

Enter Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh is known for his outrageous statements and more recently for his "operation chaos" plan where he encouraged Republican voters to vote for Hillary Clinton in primaries, to keep her in the contest for the Democratic nomination for presidency.

On Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh once again said something that has Democratic supporters calling for his prosecution, claiming he is trying to incite riots at the August Democratic Convention.

Denver Channel.com titles their piece, "Rush Limbaugh Calling For Riots In Denver", the sub header of the piece, after reading the actual Limbaugh transcript, seems to better describe the words he used, but I will leave that to you to decide. The sub header is, "Talk Show Host Wants America To See Actions Of 'Far Left'".

He said the riots would ensure a Democrat is not elected as president, and his listeners have a responsibility to make sure it happens.

"Riots in Denver, the Democrat Convention would see to it that we don't elect Democrats," Limbaugh said during Wednesday's radio broadcast. He then went on to say that's the best thing that could happen to the country.
The portions of Limbaugh's transcripts that pertain to these conversations are within two different segments of his show.

The first portion is called, "Why It's Called Operation Chaos", and it discusses his plan to for Republican voters to vote for Hillary Clinton and why he wanted that, to keep the two Democratic contenders at each other's throats for as long as possible, to lessen any chance of either one of them being able to win the election in 2008 for presidency.

In that transcript, in regards to the latest controversy about the riots at the Democratic convention, Limbaugh said:
The dream end... I mean, if people say what's your exit strategy, the dream end of this is that this keeps up to the convention and that we have a replay of Chicago 1968, with burning cars, protests, fires, literal riots, and all of that. That's the objective here.
He goes on to finish discussing Operation Chaos, then the comments causing such a stir, came later in the day, which is covered in another transcript.

Setting the scene, Limbaugh is on the phone with a caller, they are discussing his ego and how the caller did not like his comments about the riots and the replay of the 1968 convention.
CALLER: I believe that, with -- with passion. But then also, I mean our -- our whole premise was our Constitution for our safety, you know, for our children's safety. And what would that show by riots and burning cars no matter what side did that? I just think, Rush, that that comment was a little out of line and maybe just not properly thought through. Because I don't believe that way, and I don't believe that most of us want that. Because people get hurt in those situations -- and we believe that our side as Republicans, we can do it better than the rest.

RUSH: As we would be demonstrating because there won't be riots at our convention.

CALLER: Actually they would be demonstrating as Americans --

RUSH: We don't riot.

CALLER: -- that they're more out of control.

RUSH: We don't burn our cars. We don't burn down our houses. We don't kill our children. We don't do half the things the American left does. We need the American left -- and this is another great thing about Operation Chaos; nothing to do with my ego. We need as many ignorant Americans to wake up and find out exactly who the modern-day Democrat Party is as dominated by the far left in this country. We need that to be seen. Now, I am not inspiring or inciting riots. I'm dreaming. (singing to the tune of White Christmas) "I'm dreaming of riots in Denver." Remember 1968? And which party did that? It was the radicals in that party, the anti-war radicals, the same bunch of clowns that are running around defining the Democrat Party today. What the world thinks of us? There was an analogy just this week about somebody in the world. I'm drawing a mental blank about this. But the fact is that the Democrat Party has members in it that have already said, "There will be riots," or something to that effect. Al Sharpton.

He was throwing down the gauntlet to the superdelegates: "You take this election away from Barack Obama, and there's gonna be trouble......
Sharpton's comments are in the video below.

Reaction to Rush Limbaugh's words has come out fast and furiously, promising to become a firestorm at the rate it is going.

Some are saying he is deliberately trying to incite violence, one even suggests locking Limbaugh up in a mental institution, another suggests that he was trying to get Republicans to "pretend" they were Democrats and riot so that Democrats would look bad, and others are saying dreaming of something is not inciting it.

That is just a small sample of reactions to the latest comments by Rush Limbaugh.

This leaves but one question in my mind.... why is no one talking about the Re-Create 68 site, which by it's name alone suggests recreating one of the most violent Democratic protests in history against Democratic politicians by their own supporters, yet Rush's assertion that he "wishes", "dreams" or even 'wants" for the far left to show the world a side of themselves that would commit violent acts, receives calls to jail him and institutionalize him?

Are his words any worse that the Re-Create 68 site? Or is it simply because some people just love to hate Rush Limbaugh?
