RINO Alert: Republican Marty Lamb's Conversion to the GOP Last Fall

We have a RINO Alert, courtesy of Nice Deb. If you have any thoughts of voting for Republican candidate Marty Lamb for Massachusetts' 3rd Congressional District, look into his background a little deeper. Nice Deb says Lamb is a TEA Party favorite, but has donated to Democrats in the past.

Lamb's opponent, Democrat incumbent James McGovern is rated a far-left Democrat according to GovTrack. This is an important race. Politics are no longer "local." Pick a state - any state. Every vote cast on Capitol Hill  affects each of us and our families.

...think about waking up on November 3rd and finding that we didn't take back enough of the House of Representatives and/or the Senate to make a significant difference. Think about two more years with an unrestrained Barack Obama, and ask yourself if we can recover from the catastrophe of his presidency.

At Nice Deb's, listen to Lamb talk about his past when he voted for a very liberal - candidate "red Ed Markey - one of the most "radical idiotic members of Congress," according to Lamb's interviewer. Scott Brown: Why Do I Always Have to Vote with Democrats?

Senator Scott Brown asks "Why is it that I'm always the one that has to vote with the Democrats?" If he isn't regretting that question now, he should be.  How revealing is that? Why would Senator Brown want to reach across the aisle to Democrats when they never reach back, and the bigger question, why would he extend a hand to unconstitutional legislation?

This Boston.com article says Republicans haven't supported Brown's alternative to the Democrat's extended unemployment benefits bill. Can it be that Republicans have offered the same over and over and always been ignored? Republicans want the extended benefits paid for with available unused stimulus funds.

“Why is it that I’m always the one that has to vote with the Democrats?’’ Brown lamented. “Bipartisanship is a two-way street, you know? Why can’t they also work together to pay for these things within the budget, within the monies that we already have? Why is it that we always have to add to the deficit?’’

 To that question in the bold type above, we don't have "to add to the deficit" unless RINOs vote with Democrats. Brown apparently doesn't watch the news, and apparently doesn't have an historical clue. Democrats have made it clear they will not pay for extended benefits. Brown says the $35 billion unspent stimulus is a D.C. slush fund, but he appears shocked that Democrats will not capitulate and actually take a portion of a Republican idea. I'm guessing some of the unused stimulus money will somehow make it to some needy Liberal's campaign war chest.

We've been watching this sideshow for years. Democrats never reach across the aisle. Perhaps that's why he is "always the one that has to vote with Democrats." Shameful! Maybe he was misquoted? What do you think? Thanks to Fox Nation and Weasel Zippers who had a very nice link there today.

ObamaCare Forces 100 Million off Employer Plan: Coburn Barrasso Report Bad Medicine

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) issued a 32-page report, titled Bad Medicine, confirming what we all knew before ObamaCare was passed: close to 100 million people will lose their employer-based insurance, as we march toward Obama's single-payer, Obama-designed insurance for each of his subjects.

Bad Medicine comes on the heels of a questionable up-tick in approval of the government-mandated plan. Read the Daily Caller report here. Let every Republican "serving the people" in the House and Senate know if you waffle on full repeal of ObamaCare, we will notice on election day.

Matt Burns is DeDe Scozzafava Ex Campaign Manager: Burns Endorses Doug Hoffman

DeDe Scozzafava, a New York Republican, dropped out of her bid for the U.S. House from New York's 23rd district and endorsed her Democrat opponent, David Owens. Assemblywoman Scozzafava's ex-campaign manager endorsed Hoffman.

Republican Burns took a stab at defending Scozzafava's "capable" legislating, but said he disagrees with her decision to back Democrat Owens:

I am supporting Doug Hoffman, because denying Nancy Pelosi another foot soldier is vital to restoring fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington.

Mr. Burns said he agreed with Newt Gingrich:

...the party needs to recruit both moderates and conservatives if it expects to pick up seats in '10. He said he agrees with ex-Speaker/ex-Scozzafava backer Newt Gingrich (R) that the party needs to find candidates that fit their districts. Burns: "Otherwise, it's going to be tough to take back the House."

Perhaps Burns didn't hear the latest from Newt:

The age of party leaders picking people is over.

This is both a tribute to the power of the national conservative movement to define an issue and a commentary on the populist anger against politics-as-usual.

 Burns did the right thing. Scozzafava was not statesman-like, and Doug Hoffman is the only conservative who has run in this race, or is running in this race.

Newt Gingrich with ickky egg on his face once again! After saying that Republican DeDe Scozzafava's exit from the NY23 race was "statesmanlike," Scozzafava endorsed Democrat David Owens today. See post election update below.

Scozzafava did the "statesman like thing in dropping out..."  said Newt. That enraged he when I read it this morning because I ignored it because he also admitted that "the age of party leaders picking people is over.

How wrong can one man be about the principles of the party he once led? One thing is certain, that rarified air Gingrich breaths bears a bit of a stench today.

In the meantime, Scozzafava supposedly withdrew from the NY 23rd District special election for a U.S. House seat because Doug Hoffman, a Republican running on the Conservative Party ticket, left her in the dust in the polls. Newt saw that as statesmanlike, A Hoffman spokesman called her a turncoat.

Those in the camp of the Conservative candidate Douglas L. Hoffman called Ms. Scozzafava a turncoat.

“This afternoon Dede Scozzafava betrayed the GOP,“ Senior Communications Advisor Rob Ryan said in a statement. “She endorsed a Pelosi Democrat who will spend more, tax more, and push the liberal agenda that is dragging down this nation.”

Here is DeDe Scozzafava's statement:

Many of you have asked me whom you should support on Tuesday. Since announcing the suspension of my campaign, I have thought long and hard about what is best for the people of this District, and how to answer your questions. This is not a decision that I have made lightly.

You know me, and throughout my career, I have been always been an independent voice for the people I represent. I have stood for our honest principles, and a truthful discussion of the issues, even when it cost me personally and politically. Since beginning my campaign, I have told you that this election is not about me; it's about the people of this District.

It is in this spirit that I am writing to let you know I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same.

Scozzafava has received endorsements from the socialist ACORN-fronted Working Families Party (WFP) in the past. The WFP is a political party that strongly endorsed Barack Obama. She supports abortion, union card check, and legislation to codify same-sex marriage.

Scozzafava's husband, Ron McDougall is the head union organizer for the Jefferson-Lewis-St.Lawrence Country Central Labor Council that was instrumental in creating the Working Families Party. She was also endorsed by the UAW, of which Ron McDougall is a member. Just like a Democrat Newt? Do you get it now? Can you hear us now?

RINO DeDe Scozzafava Quits NY23: Hoffman NRCC Funds Available? Scozzafavas Scuzzy Suggestion

RINO DeDe Scozzafava tearfully quit suspended the NY23 special election for New York's 23rd Congressional District. It begs the question, will the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) switch their big campaign contributions to conservative candidate Doug Hoffman? In a last attempt to desecrate conservatism, Scozzafava's scuzzy and subtle suggestion that her name will remain on the ballot and, although she is not in the race, voters can still cast a vote for her, is despicable.

Scozzafava has a long-time liberal-leaning-performance as a Republican in New York. Hoffman is a business man who lives just outside the congressional district and says he was "redistricted out" of the voting area. His candidacy got a giant boost when former governor, Sarah Palin stepped in and supported him, over Newt Gingrich's foolish endorsement of Scozzafava. The sparks flew.

Endorsements for Hoffman have come from Governor Tim Pawlenty, former Governor George Pataki, former senators, Fred Thompson and Rick Santorum, Dr. James Dobson, Concerned Women for America, Club for Growth, Steve Forbes, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, The Minuteman PAC, Rep. Jeff Flake, and the Wholesale-Distributor PAC, among others.

The New York Post is endorsing Hoffman and says assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava:

"...is the product of an obscenely corrupt political bargain by GOP bosses that sells out their party - and New Yorkers generally....

And then comes the damning claims of Scozzafava's cozy relationship with socialists tied to ACORN:

With the backing of the ACORN-allied Working Families Party, she supports Big Labor's favorite organizing bill -- card-check -- as well as the federal stimulus, opposed by every House Republican.

Sounding just Democrat, DeDe's farewell message is a whine and devious message:

In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be.

On Election Day my name will appear on the ballot, but victory is unlikely. To those who support me – and to those who choose not to – I offer my sincerest thanks.

Even in defeat Scozzafava's smary behavior continues. Rather than sincerely asking that her supporters switch their vote to conservative Doug Hoffman, she hints that votes can still be cast for her. Are her supporters really Republicans? The district yielded a 52% vote for Barack Obama in November 2008. Was that just a vote against Bush? Are her supporters RINOs too, who will cast their vote for Owens? Whatever the answer, Scozzafava should have said that a vote for Hoffman is the proper way to Republicans and her. In such an important contest, Scozzafava's subtle suggestion is unforgivably scuzzy.

In latest polling dated October 31, Siena shows Hoffman at 35%, Owens at 36% and Scozzafava 20%.

So RNC, can you hear us now? While Hoffman can still lose Tuesday's election to Democrat candidate David Owens, conservatives are sending the message that we will no longer tolerate RINO traitors. We will fund conservatism, and, Newt, we are willing to take the chance that Nancy Pelosi will be "Speaker for Life," in order to try to do the right thing for the future of our country and families.

After Rep. Henry Waxman introduced a 300-page amendment at 3:09 a.m. the day of the vote, Waxman attempted to shame Rep. John Boehner for taking some time to talk about "the most profound piece of legislation to come to this floor in 100 years," while allowing only a "whopping 5 hours" of debate. Boehner accuses Waxman of have the "audacity" to drop the amendment only hours before the vote, and asks, doesn't he [Waxman] think the voters expect Congress to understand what's in the Bill before we vote on it?

With the help of 8 GOP'ers, the Bill passed 219 to 212. Republicans who voted for the Democrat's man-made disaster - the bill that will cost the average homeowner $3,200.00 per year, are:

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) says the Bill is already dead in the Senate:

He said all the hubbub in the House was over Pelosi’s desire to attend a conference in Copenhagen and be able to stand up and say, “Oh, we’ve passed this out of the House and we’re going to lead the way in America but it’s not going to pass the Senate. Inhofe said the bill, if passed, would constitute the largest tax increase in the history of the country. 

He scoffed at Democratic claims that “cap and trade” doesn’t represent a tax increase at all but instead is a free enterprise solution. “MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and the Wharton School of Economics came out with an analysis of what this is. They said that the range is between $330 and $350 billion a year. That translates in Oklahoma to $3,200 per family. Everyone who’s reading this story right now, that would be a tax increase of over $3,000 per family. I can give you all the documentation on that.” 

Inhofe said Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts, tried to “rip me up” on the Senate floor only Thursday night and I said, “In your state of Massachusetts, there’s an innocuous organization called MIT. Are you familiar with that?” Then, he said, he read what the MIT analysis had to say.

This is a rousing interview with Senator Inhofe with brief statements on gun control, health care and Supreme Court nominee,, Sonia Sotomayor. Read it here, but just this tidbit about Sotomayor:

He repeated his intention to vote against the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court but acknowledge that she will be confirmed, quoting Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, as saying Republicans are afraid to vote against her because she’s a woman and she’s Hispanic. “I’m not,” Inhofe said without hesitation. “I’m going to be voting against her.”

Colin Powell Limbaugh, Palin, Coulter Whine: Americans Want to Pay More Taxes!

Colin Powell. Another RINO Conservatives have no need for. I can understand that Colin Powell may consider himself a liberal Republican, and I give him the right to oppose the war or the belief that WMD's were overly hyped, but there is no reason for this public and yes "nasty," dishing about Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter.

Democrats would give up Nancy Pelosi and, maybe, their President in exchange for a successful Liberal radio commentator like Rush Limbaugh. They'd throw-in Michelle, gratis.

And to have a Liberal Governor in their stable with the charisma, speaking skills and popularity of Sarah Palin - there goes Average Joe Biden. They'd give him up in a quick minute.

Okay...I know, Powell isn't a Democrat, but he should be. Seems he is always busy doing the Democrat's dirty work. Here are General Powell's recent comments and some excellent commentary from Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters: Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has once again bashed conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh as well as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin while going a step further this time by piling on the GOP.

Following up on last December's acrimonious interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria, Powell told corporate security executives Monday, "The Republican Party is in deep trouble" adding "I think what Rush [Limbaugh] does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without."

As CongressDaily reported Tuesday, that's not all that's bothering Powell:

"The Republican Party is in deep trouble," Powell told corporate security executives at a conference in Washington sponsored by Fortify Software Inc. The party must realize that the country has changed, he said. "Americans do want to pay taxes for services," he said. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."

Which Americans want to pay more taxes, General? You mean the top 50 percent of wage earners that currently pays 97 percent of all federal income taxes collected wants to pay more? Or how about the bottom 50 percent? Are THEY asking to pay more? But I digress:

He blasted radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, saying he does not believe that Limbaugh or conservative icon Ann Coulter serve the party well. He said the party lacks a "positive" spokesperson. "I think what Rush does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without," Powell said.

He also said that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate last year, is "a very accomplished person" but became "a very polarizing figure." He said the polarization was created by Palin's advisers.

To Fairness Doctrine Naysayers: Support from RINOs

We now have the first Republican, Senator Richard Lugar, showing support for a Fairness Doctrine. Will Senators Olympia Snow, Chuck Hagel, and Susan Collins follow suit, and abandon any semblance of Conservatism? If ever there was an issue to be defended by Congress, Republican or Democrat, free speech is it. We have one thing to remember and to fight for: a Fairness Doctrine is diametrically opposed to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It's that simple:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment (enactment, endowment, formation, setting-up) of religion, or prohibiting (forbidding, preventing, suppressing) the the free exercise (pursuit) thereof; or abridging (abbreviating, compressing, curtailing, decreasing, lessening, omitting) the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition (ask, call upon, request, seek, urge) the government for a redress (adjustment, amendment, rectification, reformation) of grievances (damages, injustices)

Senator Dennis Kucinich is on record saying that a Fairness Doctrine will aid in:

...achieving a free exchange and a multiplicity of ideas," and finally, with a new law, we will be able to determine "if there is a balanced and fair representation"

The First Amendment does not guarantee "balanced and fair representation." "Fair and balanced" has nothing to do with the First Amendment. If Congress actually respects the First Amendment and makes "no law," but relies on the Federal Communications Commission to, again, institute a Fairness Doctrine - which would also abridge the First Amendment - is not law, but is a "regulation," what can we do about it? Take the FCC to court? For my activist readers, let's attempt to find out where Snowe, Collins and Hagel stand on this issue.

Senator Lugar Hints at Support for "Fairness Doctrine" by Martin at Blogbat.com Last week I [and] other World Affairs Council members had the chance to meet with Indiana Senator Richard Lugar at the Capitol.

During our visit with the Indiana Republican on 7 November, he seemed to offer his support for a revived “Fairness Doctrine” tailored to target only one viewpoint – that of the comparatively modest talk radio industry. On the topic of such legislation, Lugar seemed sympathetic to the significant hostility among the left towards what he called “irresponsible” “right wing” radio, using catch-phrases right out of the Idiots Guide to Liberalism, intimating that talk radio was somehow a rogue entity that merely stirred up the common people to the consternation of all-knowing legislators. (Never mind the rogue entity on Capitol Hill that is attempting to usurp the Constitution.) Senator Lugar first greeted each of us and was extremely friendly and cordial, before taking his usual seat (now that the Democrats are in power) in the Senate Foreign Relations committee room, as we each grabbed a chair – I wound up with the honor of holding down the chair of genuine conservative Louisiana Senator David Vitter.

Senator Lugar then gave us a quick run-down of things like the international financial crisis, his own biography, and the in-coming administration before taking questions. During much of this, much that was said was nothing notable or new. The senator is indeed truly likable man and I must say I can see why, politics aside, he has been as successful in the Senate as he has been. However, unfortunately, beyond personality and congeniality, the Senator and millions of Americans part ways – and do so on numerous issues.

However, Lugar, who voted in favor of an amendment in the 2007 Defense Authorization bill sponsored by Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman that would have killed such a censorship doctrine’s revival, is also known, as a Rockefeller Republican for among other things most recently ganging up with Ted Kennedy against the American people during the Amnesty war of 2006. Now that it seems safe for him to do so, he appears to be reversing his position on the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” as well. Lugar’s language was strong and even harsh as he laid out the argument in favor of conservative radio censorship, as if he were a schoolmaster educating his children about the danger of alligators and why we need to trap them. As he sat in his seat sipping water from a glass with an emblem that read, “United States Senate”, Senator Lugar seemed to offer what was hardly a fair and balanced assessment of the state of media bias of his own.
