Morehead, NC Nine Containers Punctured - PETN CONFIRMED UPDATE at Morehead Port

Harris Faulkner at FOXNews is reporting nine containers punctured, containing "highly explosive materials" in the port at Morehead, North Carolina. Faulkner also said it appears the city proper may be evacuated. Residents have been told to close-up their homes and stay away from windows and doors. Details as available. Ongoing updates. Update 12:01 CDT: PETN confirmed as explosive in containers punctured with a forklift. PETN - Same hazardous material used in underpants of Christmas Day bomber.

The Morehead port is one of the deepest on the East coast. Its Web site says its top import last year was sulfur products and the top export was phosphate. Morehead City has about 8,800 residents.

10:30 a.m. CDT:
Faulkner is back on this minute saying local Morehead police are saying PETN may be involved in the punctured containers. PETN is the same explosive hidden in the underpants of the Christmas Bomber, Abdulmutallab. Faulkner points out that she has not yet confirmed the report, and is working to do so.

She reports that there is no foot traffic in downtown Morehead, and the police are recommending everyone leave, but have apparently not issued a formal evacuation order.
