John Morton Phyllis Coven: ICE Votes No Confidence in Morton Coven

In June 2010, seven thousand ICE officers and employees from the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) cast a 'Vote of No Confidence' in their Director, John Morton and the Assistant Director Phyllis Coven. Remember when Morton recently said ICE "will not prosecute Arizona law? I ask you after reading this, if you are against Arizona's Immigration law, what do you think now?

One thing is very interesting in this press release: nowhere is the word "immigration" used. ICE agents understand that there is no such thing as "illegal immigration," there are only illegal aliens or illegal migrants.

I understand the administration's memo recently revealed showing attempts to bring full amnesty without going through Congress. Obviously, ICE leadership is involved in the attempt to slip amnesty in the back door of the White House.

The ICE agents say that whistleblowers are retaliated against. In the event you do not read it all, here are two pull-out quotes

"The lack of technical expertise and field experience has resulted in a priority of providing bingo nights, dance lessons and hanging plants to criminals, instead of addressing safe and responsible detention reforms..."

"Unlike any other agency in the nation, ICE officers will be prevented from searching detainees housed in ICE facilities allowing weapons, drugs and other contraband into detention centers putting detainees, ICE officers and contract guards at risk."

This action reflects the growing dissatisfaction and concern among ICE employees and Union leaders that Director John Morton and Assistant Director Phyllis Coven have abandoned the Agency's core mission of enforcing United States Immigration Laws and providing for public safety, and have instead directed their attention to campaigning for programs and policies related to amnesty and the creation of a special detention system for foreign nationals that exceeds the care and services provided to most United States citizens similarly incarcerated.

It is the desire of our union within ICE and our employees to publicly separate ourselves from the actions of Director Morton and Assistant Director Coven and publicly state that ICE officers and employees do not support Morton or Coven, or their misguided and reckless initiatives, which could ultimately put many in America at risk.

The following are the items of concern listed in the press release. I have numbered them. The original uses a bullet that doesn't function well with my blogging template:

(1) Senior ICE leadership dedicates more time to campaigning for immigration reforms aimed at large scale amnesty legislation, than advising the American public and Federal lawmakers on the severity of the illegal immigration problem, and the need for more manpower and resources within ICE ERO to address it. ICE ERO is currently overwhelmed by the massive criminal alien problem in the U.S. resulting in the large-scale release of criminals back into local communities.

(2) Criminal aliens incarcerated in local jails seek out ICE officers and volunteer for deportation to avoid prosecution, conviction and serving prison sentences. Criminal aliens openly brag to ICE officers that they are taking advantage of the broken immigration system and will be back in the U.S. within days to commit crimes, while U.S. citizens arrested for the same offenses serve prison sentences. State and local law enforcement, prosecutors and jails are equally overwhelmed by the criminal alien problem and lack the resources to prosecute and house these prisoners, resulting in the release of criminal aliens back into local communities before making contact with ICE.  ICE senior leadership is aware that the system is broken, yet refuses to alert Congress to the severity of the situation and request additional resources to provide better enforcement and support of local agencies.

(3) ICE is misleading the American public with regard to the effectiveness of criminal enforcement programs like the ICE "Secure Communities Program" using it as a selling point to move forward with amnesty related legislation. As officers in the field, we know this program will not improve enforcement or provide for public safety because ICE refuses, for political reasons, to request the additional manpower and resources needed to adequately operate the program.

(4) The majority of ICE ERO Officers are prohibited from making street arrests or enforcing United States immigration laws outside of the institutional (jail) setting. This has effectively created "amnesty through policy" for anyone illegally in the U.S. who has not been arrested by another agency for a criminal violation.

(5) With only a handful of officers nationwide authorized to enforce U.S. immigration laws, and demand for these officers higher than ever before, hundreds of ICE officers nationwide perform no law enforcement duties whatsoever because of resource mismanagement within the Agency. The remaining ICE officers who do perform enforcement functions spend a majority of their time performing non-law enforcement duties because ICE ERO lacks the support staff to perform related support functions.

(6) ICE Detention Reforms have transformed into a detention system aimed at providing resort like living conditions to criminal aliens. Senior ICE leadership excluded ICE officers and field managers (the technical experts on ICE detention) from the development of these reforms, and instead solicited recommendations from special interest groups. The lack of technical expertise and field experience has resulted in a priority of providing bingo nights, dance lessons and hanging plants to criminals, instead of addressing safe and responsible detention reforms for non-criminal individuals and families. Unlike any other agency in the nation, ICE officers will be prevented from searching detainees housed in ICE facilities allowing weapons, drugs and other contraband into detention centers putting detainees, ICE officers and contract guards at risk.

(7) ICE has virtually no consistent national policies. As a result, the Agency lacks adequate direction and managerial infrastructure. Operations suffer, accountability is nonexistent, and ICE is unable to perform at its potential.

(8) Senior leadership ignores reports that ICE internal investigations conducted under the auspices of the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility conceal Agency and supervisor misconduct and are used to retaliate against employees who make whistleblower type disclosures or question inappropriate policies and procedures.

It is our sincere belief that the integrity of the Agency as well as public safety ill be better provided for in the absence of Director Morton and Assistant Director Coven.

Philadelphia Bars ICE from Arrest Data

Philadelphia has decided to deny ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) access to their database of arrests, which includes country of origin.

ICE has had a year-old agreement with the city to use the police database. Philadelphia is a tad upset that ICE has actually deported persons because they are in the U.S. illegally. The city of Philadelphia is obviously breaking Federal law by knowing the person is illegal and allowing them to stay. "Human Rights" is the worry. Some of the people in the database had committed small crimes, not big ones. Helloooooo! Most of us never commit a crime in our lifetimes. How about every city across the U.S. just following the law? Let's start with Washington, D.C.

Under the agreement, ICE agents can routinely access the city's Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System (PARS). That agreement is up for renewal on Thursday.

"It is the mayor's view that the PARS agreement should not be extended," Gillison [deputy mayor] said, speaking at a South Philadelphia church meeting attended by more than 300 immigrants and their supporters

This incident was reported at a meeting called by the New Sanctuary Movement:

One man, who gave his name as Ignacio Aguirre, described the arrest of his son. He said the boy had been at the beach, where he used a knife to cut a watermelon. He put the knife into a backpack. Several days later, without thinking about it, he took the backpack to school and tripped a metal detector. It was an innocent mistake, the man said, but it resulted in a visit from ICE and house arrest with an ankle bracelet for his child. 

Is Mr. Aguirre illegal, as is his child? When you read further into the article, it is possible that at least one person on the City Council might not be re-elected if deportations of illegals continue.

Philadelphia, the city where the U.S. Constitution was born with the enormous personal sacrifice of the Founders, is today the city with the highest violent crime rate in the country.

Acorn Funding Restored: Acorn Funding Slips under the Radar

Peter Orszag, Obama's director of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) ordered resumed funding  for ACORN. With recent news that ACORN, a community organizing group that Barack Obama once worked for has gone underground, changed their tainted name...and somehow is back in the saddle with taxpayer monies.

After several ACORN offices across the U.S. were videotaped giving advice on how to avoid paying business taxes and how to hide the fact that the business was prostitution of 13-year-old girls smuggled into the U.S., Congress cut off funding.

ACORN took it to court and won a temporary injunction by Judge Nina Gershon, which has now turned into a permanent injunction.

ACORN has been charged with election fraud in Nevada. Two ACORN workers in Wisconsin are charged with election fraud. Ohio has filed a RICO suit against ACORN. Rosarno Italy Race Riots or Mafia or Fed-up with Foreign Migrants?

Have your heard about "race riots" in the town of Rosarno, Italy? But is this about race riots or the mafia or immigration? Immigrant homes have been bulldozed, and buses loaded with rioters sent on their way somewhere. Residents of the town are staying inside. Cars have been torched, at least one pushed into a wall with a mother and her children inside. Schools and businesses are closed. Here are a few reports to compare and contrast.

Woman stands her ground in Rosarno, Italy

This from the UK's MailOnline with this headline: Miigrant riot in Italy leaves 37 injured after series of beatings by white youths.

Violence broke out in southern Italy yesterday as hundreds of migrant workers, most of them Africans, went on a rampage in retaliation to two of their number being shot and three more beaten with iron bars by white youths.


Authorities reporting at least 37 were wounded in the ensuing clashes, including 18 police officers and five migrants, as the violence reached its second day in the coastal town of Rosarno in Calabria. 


The riots in the region were sparked off when when two migrants were wounded by pellet fire two days ago, starting the cycle of violence, said a top police official, Renato Cortese, in the regional capital.

A report from the Telegraph, published one day later than the MailOnline article says "nearly 70 people, including 30 immigrants, 19 police and 17 Italians were injured. "...two Africans from Togo and Nigeria were shot at with air rifles by locals.

On Thursday, hundreds of immigrants, most of them from sub-Saharan Africa, staged an angry demonstration against the shooting, setting fire to cars and rubbish bins, smashing shop windows and throwing rocks at police.

They carried placards which read "We are not animals" and "Italians are racist".

In a report filed from Rome, ChinaView says an "extraordinary summit was held today in an attempt to dientify Mafia connections in the "outbreak of racial riots" in Rosarno.

An inquiry is under way to identify possible Mafia responsibilities in the riots and exploitation of immigrant work in Rosarno. At least one clan-linked man was among those arrested for the attacks. 

According to the police, the Mafia may have taken advantage of the riots in order to distort attention from a recent failed bomb explosion at the prosecutor's office. 

The situation in Rosarno is now under control. More than 1,000 immigrants, mainly farm laborers from sub-Saharan Africa, either fled the area or were transferred to migrant centers during the weekend. Their dwellings have been bulldozed by the authorities. 

The government aims to move immigrants out of other high-crime areas near Naples and in Sicily. 

The Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said on Monday that all illegal refugees will be expelled from the country. In his view Rosarno's riots were the product of Italy's far too lenient immigration policy.

Race riots have intensified in the town of Rosarno, Italy, where locals have attacked and even shot some of the illegal African immigrants in the area. The government blames the events on the excessive “tolerance” of recent years, but the Italian left sees evidence of Mafia control, poverty, intolerance, and racism.

Surprising that there is a government anywhere in the world today who believes excessive "tolerance" may breed problems, as Gates of Vienna mentioned, but the Interior Minister, Roberto Maroni said:

"In all these years illegal immigration has been tolerated without doing anything effective, an immigration that on the one hand has fed crime and on the other has led to situations of extreme squalor such as that at Rosarno."

Rosarno, located in Calabria near the top of the western edge of the toe of the boot of Italy, is the base of Ndrangheta, an international crime syndicate. Rosarno is a citrus-growing area, middle-class, and is experiencing its own economic crisis. This insight from The New York Times:

Both the official and underground economies increasingly rely on immigrants, while Italy remains torn between acceptance and xenophobia.

So, it is reasonable to assume that when mixing economic strife with a town with many foreign migrants - where there are no jobs for the locals - remember those "white youths," - no jobs for them, tensions are taunt. But this is Italy, so we have to add the Mafia to the mix.

Myleene Klass Waves Knife at Intruders - Klass Gets Police Warning

Myleene Klass, a model, singer and broadcaster in the U.K. was in her kitchen when she saw two youths "behaving suspiciously" in her yard. They came toward the kitchen window, she waved a knife at them and it apparently worked because when the police arrived, the teenagers were gone.

Klass, 31, was home with her 2-year-old daughter. She was told that brandishing "an offensive weapon," even inside her home, was illegal.

Jonathan Shalit, Miss Klass's agent, said that had been "shaken and utterly terrified" by the incident and was stepping up security at the house she shares with her fiancé, Graham Quinn, who was away on business at the time.

He said: "Myleene was aghast when she was told that the law did not allow her to defend herself in her own home. All she did was scream loudly and wave the knife to try and frighten them off.

"She is not looking to be a vigilante, and has the utmost respect for the law, but when the police explained to her that even if you're at home alone and you have an intruder, you are not allowed to protect yourself, she was bemused.

"Her questions going forward are: what are my rights, and what are you actually allowed to do to defend yourself in your own house?"

I don't think any human should have the right to tell us we cannot protect ourselves on our own property, when we are under attack - I don't care what country we are in, or what their little half-baked rules might be.

Donna Jackson Shoots Intruder with Shotgun in Oklahoma: Billy Dean Riley Dies at End of Donna Jackson's Shotgun

Donna Jackson, in Cushing, Oklahoma, was on the phone with 911 as a man tried to break into her home. Jackson was home by herself. As she talks to 911, the dogs continue to bark and he bangs on the door. Jackson gets her 16-gauge shotgun out. The 911 operator can hear him knocking and yelling. Listen to it below. (this report is paraphrased)

Jackson says he is "crazy." She gives 911 instructs for police on how to get in the front gate, the dog's name and where to find a key to the house. The dispatcher asks if she can go to a room and lock herself in. Jackson eventually says I've got a shotgun and I'm not going in a tiny room.

The Operator tells her that she has the 'okay' to defend her property.  I don't want to kill this man, but I will kill him. He's kicking the door. He's going to make it in. Please hurry.

Jackson says she thinks he is drunk. Oh dear God,...it's a big shotgun. It will break my arm. As soon as the police get here I'm putting the safety on. Jackson says he keeps yelling "Pat." He's getting ready to break a window.

The man picked up plastic patio table and threw it through the patio door.

Oh, he's got it. He came through the window. She put the phone down. She tells the Operator he is in the house and she is going to shoot. Eventually she does. Oh please dear God I think I killed him. Please dear God in heaven, I think he's dead. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry Father.

The police are still not there. The Operator calls Medi-Flight.

Listen to this woman's anguish. Her anguish for his family. There's only one way to look at this. This man did this to himself. The dead man is Billy Dean Riley. He was 53 years old and the photo above is from a 2005 mugshot. Donna Jackson did not know him. The police do not arrive for what appears to be over 24 minutes after the 911 call begins. If your wife takes a golf club to your car and, maybe even to you personally, but you praise her for her courageous actions in saving your life - and you have no intention of filing charges against her, can police actually search your home and demand your medical records in the hopes of charging someone with domestic violence? I have been a real Tiger fan, but if the rumors of an affair are true, I'll have to move on. I have a real problem with his penchant to chuck a club in a fit of angernow and then. Philandering will kill my admiration of his competitive spirit and, usually, brilliant play. Golfers are a cut above. Low-lifes have no place in prime-time golf.

Nevertheless, unless Tiger wants to file charges, or unless Elin plans to file against Tiger, what business do the police have issuing search warrants?

TMZ is on Greta's On the Record: About Rachel Uchitel, TMZ says that Elin Woods actually spoke on the phone with Rache Uchitel after she grabbed the phone out of Tiger's hand, just before Tiger strode out of the house and wrecked the Escalade. According to TMZ, there is damage inside the Woods "vestibule."

TMZ says that Tiger and Rachel Uchitel talked on the telephone last night - Wednesday December 2nd.

Heidi Lynn Childs David Lee Metzler are Virginia Tech Students Murdered

Heidi Lynn Childs and David Lee Metzler are the Virginia Tech Students murdered and found in the Jefferson National Forest. Said to be close friends, Childs and Metzler were found shot to death Thursday at a popular forest campground, known as Cadwell Fields, about 15 minutes from the VA Tech campus. New video added. Heidi Childs of Forest, Virginia was 18 years old and David Metzler of Lynchburg was 19. FoxNews reports that Mr. Metzler was found inside a car and Miss Childs was found somewhere outside the car. It is believed the couple were murdered on Wednesday night, August 26th. Heidi was a sophomore and a biochemistry major. David was a sophomore industrial and systems engineering major. No suspects or persons-of-interest have been identified. In 2007, Virginia Tech was the scene of the deadliest school shootings in history. Known as the Virginia Tech Massacre, the shooter was a VA Tech student. Thirty two died, and many were wounded when Seung-Hui Cho opened fire on the student body. The murders of Virginia Tech students, Childs and Metzler, has set the University on edge and reaching out to students, many of whom were students at the time of the 2007 Massacre. Update 8-29-09: Friends of Heidi and her family will have an opportunity to offer condolences from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, August 30th at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, VA. Heidi's funeral will be Monday, August 31st at 3 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Heidi's home church. Internment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Bedford County. Friends of David and his family will have an opportunity to offer condolences from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, August 30th at Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. David's funeral will be Monday, August 31st at 1 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church. Internment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Bedford County after Heidi's service. She was enjoying a cup of coffee in a VA Tech campus cafe when a man who listed her as an emergency contact, walked in and beheaded her with a kitchen knife? "He was just full of joy and full of life," David Logan said. "He was real," Morgan Paulette said. The crowd laughed when student ministries pastor at Heritage Baptist, Kent Gregory, said, "I will miss his dignified ways and his monstrous belching." "David I love you man. I really do... I can't wait to see you again," Logan said. Matt Durran, Metzler's brother-in-law, said, "He was rapidly becoming more of a peer to me who I had great respect and admiration for." Family says he was a genuinine person. "He was more than a good son, good brother. He loves his 3 sisters...he would do anything for his sisters," Metzler's father said.

In an interview with CBS13, Garrido on Thursday night urged people to wait for more details about the case to come out before making a judgment.

"What's kept me busy the last several years is I've completely turned my life around," he said.

"And you're going to find the most powerful story coming from the witness, the victim - you wait. If you take this a step at a time, you're going to fall over backwards and in the end, you're going to find the most powerful heartwarming story."

In the name of a religious conversion, Garrido said he once did a "disgusting thing" but he's fixed all that now, and he is no longer disgusting. Phillip and Nancy Garrido want us to take this story one step at a time. That's exactly what little Jaycee Lee DuGard did: one step at a time, she walked to her school bus one day, and on June 10, 1991, the life she had every right to live was ended by the Garridos. Jaycee's step-father, Carl Probyn was the last person to see her before she vanished. Probyn watched from the window of their home, as Jaycee made her way to the bus stop. A gray sedan stopped and two people grabbed his step-daughter. He says he has been a "suspect" in her kidnapping. Probyn tried to follow the car but lost them. Thus began a living nightmare for Mr. Probyn. Not only did he live every moment wondering if his daughter was alive but he became the focus of police and FBI. Probyn said Jaycee's mother, his ex-wife said Jaycee looks very young and healthy, and the mother allegedly told Probyn:

...he told me that Jaycee feels really guilty for bonding with this guy. She has a real guilt trip.

Now the stories will come, Jaycee is is 29 years old now: why didn't Jaycee escape in those 18 years? Maybe Jaycee wanted to live with the Garridos. Even when Garrido was arrested, she did not cry out to the police. Why not? Within hours of her abduction, Jaycee DuGard was no longer the little girl that left her house that day. I dread the stories we will hear from these perverts. There should be only one focus of this story: had a sex offender not been free on the streets, Jaycee Dugard would have lived the life she was born to. Not an ounce of blame should be put on this girl. I hope we forget everything except that Jaycee was kidnapped, molested, impregnated, gave birth in a shed, lived like an animal and made to shower in the outdoors for 18 years. There is no other story we should give credence to other than she was kidnapped by a previously convicted sex offender, but believe me, she will live the rest of her life under the shadow of her own culpability. Jaycee Dugard 8-29-09: Phillip Garrido is being investigated in the murders of Antioch, California prostitutes dating back to the 1990's. Phillip Garrido and his wife pleased not guilty to 39 counts "including forcible abduction, rape and false imprisonment. Antioch residents told police that they had a "psychotic sex addict" in their neighborhood, and told authorities that Garrido was housing young girls in backyard tents. According to reports, the deputy went to the house but never though the front door and did not walk to the backyard. Probation officers came to the home, sometimes as often as three times a month to check on their released and paroled sexual predator from Nevada, but somehow did not know that children were on the property. Garrido was convicted in 1977 of kidnapping a 25-year-old woman from a parking lot in South Lake Tahoe, the same town Jaycee was taken from. Garrido ran a printing business out of his house and seems to have had long-time customers. One said he had met Jaycee inside the Garrido house. She was introduced as Alyssa, Garrido's daughter. Update 8-30-09: This interesting story at DailyMail has more photos. Found on the property was an 8' by 4' steel cage which "appeared unused." How easy it to clean a steel cage? Really easy, is the answer. Perhaps it was used many times in the past, until Garrido no longer felt it necessary - and perhaps the steel cage sat there as ominous threat. Update 8-30-09: News Conference 3:15 pm CDT 8-30-09: According to a police spokesman, a number of years ago, Phillip Garrido had access to the next door neighbor's property, which was vacant at that time and had nothing to do with the current occupant, Damon Robinson. Years ago, Garrido lived in a shed on the property now occupied by Mr. Robinson, and now being searched. Mr. Robinson is not a suspect or a person of interest in anyway in the Dugard-Garrido case. Mr. Robinson offered his property to the police for investigation. Perhaps police are looking for the bodies of the missing prostitutes. The spokesman confirmed that cadaver dogs are on the property. 9:05 pm CDT: Geraldo is on this minute. A neighbor of the Garrido's, Haydee Perry, is speaking. She has lived near Garrido for a couple of months. He came to her house to help her charge her car battery. Jaycee's 11 year old daughter accompanied her father (Phillip Garrido). The young girl told Ms. Perry that she had a sister, and they had some casual conversation about how she and her sister would fight every day but they always made up. Then she told Perry that she also had a 28 year old sister. If this is true, Jaycee's girls believed that Jaycee their mother, was their older sister. Haydee Perry said she saw the 11 year old more frequently thann the 15 year-year-old, and that the girl seemed to stare vacantly much of the time. A high-ranking white supremacist on the run from US federal authorities was arrested on Monday night in a south Tel Aviv hideout. 33-year-old Micky Louis Mayon, one of America's 100 Most Wanted criminals, and a member of the Ku Klux Klan, was arrested in a Florentine apartment by the National Immigration Authority's newly formed Oz enforcement unit. Mayon is wanted in the US on charges of racist assaults, setting fire to vehicles belonging to federal agents, and a host of violence incidents. The Oz unit was acting on intelligence relayed by Interpol, which informed authorities here that Mayon had entered Israel illegally.

He is said to have moved apartments often in order to evade police, but his efforts proved fruitless on Monday when a delicate operation by the Oz unit saw officers break into his hideout and arrest him. Oz unit members have the powers of a police officer but can only use them in cases of illegal entry into the country. Mayon was the subject of an American arrest operation in November 2007, but officers soon realized he had flown to Israel on a one-way ticket. Earlier that year, he reportedly fired his gun in the air repeatedly after being involved in an argument with an African-American. US authorities have described him as a dangerous fugitive. Oz Unit head Tziki Sela said Mayon was surprised to be arrested, but cooperated with the officers. He has been transferred to a Holon jail facility, where he underwent an immigration hearing. He was then taken to an Israel Prison Authority jail facility.

Did he really believe he could pass in Tel Aviv as a Jew or a Zionist? What made him think that he would be safe and secure in Israel? Maybe Israel will become the new haven for criminals and their like. One day the Israel Oz unit could be apprehending such notables as Osama bin Ladan, the heads of Hamas and Hizbollah, and Ahmadinejad when the people of Iran finally kick him out.

Jerome Jay Ersland is Pharmicist Charged with First Degree Murder for Self-Defense

An Oklahoma City man, Jerome Jay Ersland, is the pharmacist charged with first degree murder for defending himself against hardened criminals attempting to rob his pharmacy.

The two men pictured above and involved in robbing the pharmacy "have spent much of their lives behind bars (read their rap sheet here) on convictions of robbery and other crimes, including violent offenses. Both are from Oklahoma City, OK. Anthony D. Morrison, 43, is charged with first-degree murder. Emanuel D. Mitchell, 31, is charged with first-degree murder. The two men above "recruited" Jevontia Ingram, only 14 years old, and Antwun "Speedy" Parker, 16 years old, to walk into the pharmacy and rob it of drugs and money. The two hardened criminals waited for the teens in getaway cars, one of which was STOLEN. Morrison and Mitchell are charged with first-degree murder because the law allows the charge if a death of anyone occurs during a robbery. In this case, Antwun Parker died when the pharmacist, Ersland, allegedly shot him five times. Because Morrison and Mitchell talked two teenagers into invading a pharmacy and demanding drugs and money, people are dead and the pharmacist who tried to defend himself, is now also facing first-degree murder charges. Something is wrong with a law that lets you shoot someone once time to defend yourself, on your turf, but doesn't let you shoot them until they are dead. Jerome Jay Ersland is accused of "vigilante justice," and charged with first-degree murder. He out on bail of $100,000 paid by an anonymous donor. He is a former Air Force lieutenant colonel. He wears a back brace due to previous back surgery. The District Attorney David Prater says it was okay for Mr. Ersland to shoot Parker once in the head, but it was not okay to fire additional shots into him. The NAACP calls it an "execution-style" murder. A video camera shows that Ersland had guns pointed at him and two women working with him. Irven Box, Erland's attorney said there has been an enormous out-pouring of support for him.

Under Oklahoma's "Make My Day Law" - passed in the late 1980s and named for one of Clint Eastwood's most famous movie lines - people can use deadly force when they feel threatened by an intruder inside their homes. In 2006, Oklahoma's "Stand Your Ground Law" extended that to anywhere a citizen has the right to be, such as a car or office. "It's a 'Make-My-Day' case," Box said. "This guy came in, your money or your life. Mr. Ersland said, `You're not taking my life.'" The gunman "forfeited his life."

This outrages me, and many, many others in Oklahoma. Not only must you defend yourselves with a weapon, you must defend others who work for you. Then you are charged with first-degree murder. I see no way, other than legal spin, that Prater can defend this.

Chicago: 36!

by Findalis What a number. A new record! Is it the number of games the Chicago Cubs have lost in the last month? NO! Is it the number of bribes any Chicago Politician took yesterday? NO! Is it the number of seconds that Oprah went without mentioning herself, Dr. Phil, or Barack Obama? NO! It is the number of young men and women who were gunned down this past school year. 36.

With three weeks left before summer break, a record 36 Chicago Public Schools students have been killed this school year, marking the third straight year that youth homicides have climbed into double digits. Chicago has surpassed New York City and Los Angeles for having the highest youth homicide rate in the nation. "I think people in Chicago have almost gotten numb to the statistics," said Dexter Voisin, a researcher at the University of Chicago who studies the impact of violence on adolescents. The latest victim in Chicago's long year of student killings is 15-year-old Alex Arellano. On May 1, he was chased, beaten with baseball bats, run over by a car, shot and burned. His body was found days after he disappeared from his family's home on the city's South Side. Police continue to investigate the killing; gang activity has been suggested. His grieving family members have denied any gang connections and continue to look for answers. "The homicide rate is just the tip of the iceberg," Mr. Voisin said. "Those with nonfatal injuries are almost 100 times that of our homicide rates. You think for about every one kid who is murdered, 100 kids witness the murder or are victims of nonfatal injuries, of robberies, muggings and gang-related incidents. A lot of times, this exposure goes undocumented or unreported." Black youths, he said, are two times more likely than white youths to fail or drop out of school, and at the same time they are also eight to 10 times more likely to be victims of homicide than whites. "I don't even know where to begin," said Diane Latiker, who runs a program for at-risk youths out of her home in the city's Roseland neighborhood. "There aren't any words for what I feel for what is going on for our youth." Ms. Latiker uses three rooms of her six-room apartment to run a nonprofit program called Kids Off the Block. She offers tutoring, mentoring and travel opportunities designed to show Chicago youths who want successful futures that the violent culture they see daily is not the norm. The local drug dealer in a big car with flashy rims, wearing cool sneakers, appears to many to be the model of success, Ms. Latiker said. "The A and B students, they have family and community support," she said. "What about the kid who is struggling, hanging out there on the street corner and joining that gang because he feels hopeless? That's what I'm hearing from our youth. Where is Jesse Jackson? Where is Al Sharpton? Maxine Waters? Why is the Daily Kos and Huffington Post both silent on this? Why is the left silent? Black children are being killed! Yet not a word about this from them. If it came out that Black children were being killed by the Chicago police, white men, or KKK members, they would be marching in the streets. But a little gang violence and they remain silent on this issue. THAT IS RACISM! Why is it that Jackson, Waters and Sharpton will go ballistic if the 'N' word is used by a comedian, radio personality or other WHITE person, but are remaining silent when a rapper like: Mac Dre, Snoop Dog, Master P, and Lil Wayne all tell young people not to snitch, don't cooperate with the police. So the murderers go free to kill again and again. The rappers get rich, the murderers get away with the crime, and the people of the neighborhood are less safe, less secure in their homes. And still the only cry that goes out is: Take away people's guns. If there were no guns, there would be no gun violence, the liberals say. The truth is that these crimes are not committed with legal weapons, but illegal ones. AK-47's to be exact. That is not the type of weapon one can walk into a gun shop and pick up. Gun control is NOT the answer. The answer is for the Black Community to stop the culture of gangsterism. It is for parents to sit down with their kids and explain to them that the rappers and gangsters are not the best role-models for them. That snitching is not wrong. That testifying in court is your civic duty. That solving one's problems with a shooting is just plain stupid. Most important it is time for Black leaders to say these things. For Black leaders to march in the streets of Chicago screaming for justice for these 36 children. For Black leaders to stand up to the gangsters and take their culture back. In September, Chicago will begin a new school year. Let us all pray that the next year will see no child shot, no child killed by gangsters. That each child will have a chance to grow up and become a useful and productive member of this great nation.
