Even when the polls match everything I have been saying, I still say polls are not "all that and a bag of chips", BUT, since our Democratic Congress and quite a few Republicans too seem to thrive on making their decisions based on polls, I find this amusing as hell.
Congress Approval Down to 29%; Bush Approval Steady at 33%
According to the May 10-13, 2007, Gallup Poll, 29% of Americans approve and 64% disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job.
[...]
Even though Democrats now control both houses of Congress, the poll shows that only 37% of Democrats approve of the job Congress is doing right now. These marks are, however, significantly better than those given to Congress by independents (24%) and Republicans (25%).
Congress Approval ratings are sinking and the reason is clear.
Instead of listening to the exit polls where "corruption" was listed as the number one reason for the 2006 elections and Iraq was listed as number 4, the Democrats keep insisting on ignoring that and stuffing their bills full of pork, while Pelosi tries and fails miserably at shuttle diplomacy in the Middle East instead of doing her job, passes war funding bills that she knows will be vetoed and she also knows she doesn't have the votes to override the veto, the proceeds to repeat the process over again.
Then we have the Democrats in the Senate like Baghdad Reid, that manages to offend every veteran, active military soldiers and officers, friends and families of the military and their supporters by declaring, in a time of war, America's surrender.
You have people like John Edwards encouraging protests on a day meant to honor our troops.
The list goes on and on and on and I am sure we will see a number of excuses about why Congress has skydiving approval ratings but the facts are clear, the people of America may not like the war, but they certainly don't want to lose it and we are pretty tired of watching the Democrats act as allies to our enemies, encouraging them, trying to demoralize our troops.
The Democrats not only want to lose it, they are doing everything in their power to force us into defeat.
Hows that working out?
Especially interesting is that only 37% of Democrats approve of the job Congress is doing so far, they cannot even get a higher approval rating from their own party and only 24% of independents...
Ouch, thats gotta hurt!!!
The Democrats are proving everything we said about them and they are doing it in a shorter amount of time than any of us could have predicted.
They cannot be trusted to keep their promises (like cleaning up the corruption and ending earmarks/pork), they cannot be trusted with National Security and they keep aligning themselves with our enemies in words and in actions.
A little hint: Start doing your job and stop trying to do everyone elses, you were voted into congress not the White House, your job is to legislate, not diplomacy and not dictating foreign policy.
All in all, not a bad start to my morning. Thanks Dems!!!!!!!
[Update] Via Hot Air we see that Congress is also being held responsible for not getting the troops the funds they need.
(Click picture to enlarge)
The veto came on May 1st, after the last poll on approval ratings was taken but and before this one was, so you’re surely seeing some of the fallout here of the Dems’ refusal to fund the troops. It’ll be interesting to see what the next poll looks like if Bush goes ahead with his threat to veto the new bill, too. I fear a boomerang.
Looks like the Democrats are finally being seen for what they are.
Good.
From The Jawa Report:
I can only hope the Democrats keep doing what they're doing - ensuring a lost war, raising taxes by the largest amount in world history, trying to shut down talk radio because they can't effectively compete, holding our Troops hostage while their approval whittles down to nothing, etc.
Don't blame us. Blame those rightwing neeeeeocons at Gallup.
Even Bush has a higher aggregate approval rating.
Too sweet.
[Update #2] Don Surber compares some other poll numbers:
But, sadly, Congress is now less popular than the Iraq War.
37% now say it was worth going to Iraq vs. 62% who say no — a Q Factor of minus 25. That’s 10 points higher than Congress.
Nice Point Don!!!!!
Flopping Aces wonders if the same standards apply to the Dems in Congress as they tried to apply to Bush:
So, using the standards that were previously applied to President Bush by the left we may now demand that Congress, led by Democrats must abandon their policy of retreat in Iraq as well as the other planks in their socialist "ruin America" agenda.
Captain's Quarters:
The Democrats had better start producing something other than sound bites if they want to hang onto their majorities in 2008. The electorate has already grown tired of posturing, and their patience has run out on partisan games. We're now at Day 100 for funding the troops, arguably the highest priority in national security, and we still don't have a supplemental bill that can reach a broad consensus. We have no movement on the Democrats' own agenda. It's possibly the worst do-nothing Congress in memory -- and the people have noticed.
No worries, I am sure the far left moonbats will be coming out with their excuses any minute now.
[Update] NewsBloggers agrees that perhaps the public wants Congress to start actually doing their job....ya know, LEGISLATING.
But it's not just Democratic addiction to the "culture of corruption" that's at work here. The fact is that this Congress has failed thus far to enact any high-profile domestic legislation. As the Washington Post puts it, "not a single priority on the Democrats' agenda has been enacted, and some in the party are growing nervous that the "do nothing" tag they slapped on the Republicans last year could come back to haunt the party."
Perhaps Nancy Pelosi should discontinue her foolish outreach program to anti-American Middle Eastern dictators and focus more on enacting the reform legislation she promised the American people.
Right Wing News says the Dems are stinking up the hill.
Moreover, the Democrats are in charge and the voters think they're stinking up the Hill. The Dems in Congress currently have a disapproval rating that is higher than the GOP numbers before the 2006 election.
[Update #4] Still more reactions from the right, but the left is eerily quiet considering how much they constantly tout poll results..... I guess the people of Gallup are off their Christmas list this year now huh?
Macsmind:
I told you both on this blog and on The MacRanger Show for months now that the American people will have nothing to do with the Democrat’s stupid witch hunts and payback schemes. Looks like the proof is in, and you will continue to see the numbers slide unless they knock it off - which they won’t.
Power Line:
As I've said before, the Democrats will suffer to some degree from a do-nothing image, but the real problem will be if voters conclude that they aren't really interested in conducting the people's business through constructive legislation, but rather want to use their majorities mainly to conduct their war against President Bush through endless investigations and other forms of harassment. The current low ratings suggest that this may already be happening.
I will update this as more reactions come out.
