Child Soldiers Okay in Sudan, Yemen, Chad, Congo: Obama Funds Child Soldiers

U.S. law stipulates that we will not extend aid to any country utilizing "child soldiers." At least it was the law until Obama exempted Sudan, Yemen, Chad and the Congo. They use children for solidiers...we send money anyway. Barack Obama deemed it so. Congress wants to know why.

Child Soldiers

State Department spokesman, P.J. Crowley explained that these four countries "need more time" to implement the policies we object to, and to keep stability in these areas. We will break our own laws, because in The Time of Obama, the Rule of Law means nothing.
The law requires the State Department to list governments that recruit and use child soldiers in the annual “Trafficking in Persons Report.” Governments appearing on the list are prohibited from receiving military assistance or buying arms from the United States unless the president grants an exemption on grounds of "national interest."
Republican Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (Neb) says the waiver is an "affront to our principles," and is a "most serious human rights violation...." He is awaiting a memo of "waiver justification" from the White House, due in 45 days.

Think about these four egregious countries: the Sudan, Yemen, Chad and the Congo. None have the slightest penchant for human rights, especially for women and children. Children are routinely raped in each. There is no governmental stability in any of the four countries. Who will these children be fighting against? What are we thinking when we break our own laws designed to protect children? Do we consider that in each of these countries, Muslims are at the heart of the problem? Can't wait for Obama's "justification" memo.

Jabr Jabran al-Faifi Gives Saudia Arabia Tip on Postal Bombing Attempts

Jabr Jabran al-Faifi is a former detainee of Guantanamo Bay and an al-Qaeda member. It is believed Jabran provided the tip to the Saudi's of last weeks attempted postal parcel bombings.

The DailyMailUK reports that Saudi-born Jabr Jabran is providing "a wealth of intelligence," after "turning his back" on al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
In an extraordinary move, 35-year-old al-Faifi secretly contacted the Saudi authorities from Yemen and a handover was arranged through officials in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
US Defence Department documents say one of his aliases was on a captured computer and that in November-December 2001 he was in the Tora Bora area of Afghanistan where Osama Bin Laden and other senior al-Qaeda and Taliban figures were at one stage trapped.
Jabran was released from Gitmo and sent to Saudi Arabia for "rehabilitation" in December 2006. Later he escaped and fled to Yemen. The "rehabilitation" obviously did not work. The Saudi's say only 11 out of 117 Guantanamo returnees rejoined al-Qaeda.

Amen Ahmed Ali is California Yemen-American Agent Sentenced

Amen Ahmed Ali accepted a plea agreement in Bakersfield, California on charges that he was acting as an agent for the Islamic country of Yemen. He admitted "illegally exporting military equipment, possession of stolen U.S. property and conspiracy to act as an illegal agent for a foreign country between 1997 and 2006. Note that he was aiding terrorism before September 11, 2001. Thrown in the pot of indictments, Ali was initially charged with "acquiring and transmitting secret defense information obtained from a government undercover agent. For this, he is sentenced to a maximum of 5 years in prison.

Amen Ahmed Ali Arrest

Ali is a naturalized U.S. citizen according to this Bakersfield news site. He was born in Yemen and has been in California for more than 30 years. A Federal Judge ruled that he was not eligible for bail due to risk of flight, and has apparently been held in a Bakersfield jail since early 2007

Amen Ahmed Ali, who would be about 60 years old now, had two accomplices indicted by a federal grand jury in Fresno, California: Mohamed Al-Rahimi of Bakersfield, about 66 years old today, and California and Ibrahim A. Omer of Fort Worth, Texas, about 44. The arrests came after a two year investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force along with the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff's office.

Prosecutors said Ali shipped night-vision goggles, laptop computers, and satellite phone sold to him by an FBI undercover-agent who posed as a soldier of the U.S. Army. He also admitted shipping bulletproof vests, and chemical protective suits. Source: Fox News

Ali reportedly had access to five bank accounts holding large amounts of money. Prosecutors had 115 taped phone calls authorized under FISA.

According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in September 2006, the man had several aliases: Ali Amin Alrowhani, Amin Al Rohany and Ameen Alrohany.

The original counts charged:
COUNT ONE (Ali) - Conspiracy to Possess and Transmit Defense Information - 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine;
COUNT TWO (Ali and Omer) - Conspiracy to Unlawfully Export Defense Articles - 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine;
COUNT THREE (Ali and Omer) - Attempted Unlawful Export of Defense Articles - 10 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine;
COUNT FOUR (Ali and Al-Rahimi) - Conspiracy to Possess Stolen Government Property - 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
For this and his guilty plea, the man will spend only five years in prison, the maximum penalty. Sentencing is January 24th, 2011. That's like a slap on the wrist to a dedicated Muslim terrorist. If his previous jail time on the charges are considered (and I cannot confirm they will be counted) Ali will spend only 1 year in prison.

According to JihadWatch, when the arrests first occurred on September 8, 2006, accomplice Ibrahim A. Omer was taken into custody in Bossier City, Louisiana, and Al-Rahimi was being sought. I'm finding no arrest or conviction information about Mohamed Al-Rahimi.

Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi Terrorist? Hezam al Murisi Terrorist? Two Yemens on United Flight Arrested

Two Yemen men living legally in the U.S. were removed from a United Flight today. Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi of Detroit, Michigan and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Hezam al Murisi were allowed to board the United flight at Chicago's O'Hare airport last night even though "security concerns surrounded" one of them. In the video below you can see the two men taken off the flight in Amsterdam in handcuffs.

It's a bizarre story that U.S. officials seems ready to tell us has no connection to terrorism. The story at this time is that the two men do not know each other and just happened to be on the same flight from Chicago to Amsterdam - both boarding in Birmingham, Alabama. Both men's luggage ended up on a flight different than the flight they were flying on. The luggage had watches, and an empty bottle with three cell phones taped to it, at least one box cutter and three large knives.  According to ABC News, U.S. officials describe the odd items in the luggage as "mock bombs."
Airport security screeners in Birmingham, Alabama first stopped al Soofi and referred him to additional screening because of what officials said was his "bulky clothing.
In addition, officials said, al Soofi was found to be carrying $7,000 in cash and a check of his luggage found a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle, three cell phones taped together, several watches taped together, a box cutter and three large knives. Officials said there was no indication of explosives and he and his luggage were cleared for the flight from Birmingham to Chicago O'Hare.
Despite the items found in the luggage, the Birmingham airport cleared them for the flight to O'Hare. When the flight arrived in Chicago, officials learned that al Soofi intentionally sent his luggage on a different flight to Washington's Dulles airport, connecting to Dubai and then Yemen. Al Soofi did not try to board the flight to D.C.

That is all bizarre enough, without this....:

The U.S. does not expect to charge the men, a law enforcement official said. The two men arrested in Amsterdam - both traveling to Yemen - did not know each other and were not traveling together, a U.S. government official said...
Al Soofi was supposed to fly from Chicago to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia and then on to Dubai, one of the officials said. But when he got to Chicago he changed his travel plans to take a direct flight to Amsterdam, while his luggage went on to Virginia.
Al Murisi also changed his travel plans in Chicago to take a direct flight to Amsterdam, raising suspicion among U.S. officials.
Dutch officials say they detained the men at the request of the U.S., and are holding them on "suspicion of a conspiracy to a terrorist criminal act." If the men cannot be charged for perpetrating the equal of "fire" in a crowded theatre, then passengers have never have a chance of boarding a flight without drama.

Guantanamo Detainee Saeed al-Shihri Threatens Saudi Monarchy: Al-Qaeda Targets Saudi Monarchy, Saudi Christians, Israel

Al-Qaeda's Saeed al-Shihri was detained at Guantanamo, then released and is now in Yemen calling for accelerated jihad within the Saudia Arabian army. Al-Qaeda has "supporters" in the Saudi army. Who knew (of course we knew)....and we are sending arms to the Monarchy at stealth speed? De-throning the Saudi Arabian royals is now officially on the terrorism calendar, according Saeed al-Shihri, who accuses the Saudi monarchy of aiding the U.S. in killing Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen. The order has gone out to kidnap Saudi princes, ministers and Christian residents of the country, and to attack Israel "from northwestern Saudi Arabia.

Saeed al-Shihri

According to Saeed al-Shihri, who is a Saudi national, some Saudi military members are asking whether they should stay in the "army" or join al-Qaeda in Yemen. The advice given:
“Unite ranks, call for Jihad within your departments, and form Islamic cells to attract whoever can help in military or political organizational work.”
The al-Qaeda leader also called on its followers in the armed forces to attack Israel from northwestern Saudi Arabia. “Carry your arms against Israel, which is only few kilometres away from you,” al-Shihri said. “Whoever among you is a pilot should seek martyrdom in the skies of Palestine, and who works in the navy should aim his weapon at the Jews there.”
The U.S. embassy has notified U.S. residents of the danger:
The U.S. embassy warned its citizens in the kingdom that it has credible information that unidentified extremists may be planning to attack western nationals in al-Qassim province north of Riyadh, according to a Warden Message on its website dated Aug. 4. The timing and method of potential attacks aren’t known, according to the statement.
Al-Shihri is suspected of involvement of the Yemen U.S. Embassy in September 2008, and as an al-Qaeda member held at Guantanamo, he is one of approximately 61 believed to have returned to the battlefield after release.

In the meantime, the U.S. has devised a continued arms sale package to Saudi Arabia, considered the biggest overseas U.S. arms sale in our history. The al-Saud family has a lot at stake. They need us and we need them, but what happens after the Iranian nuclear threat to the area is gone? Think how this story might different had we dealt with Iran several years ago. Jihad Watch has more.

Samir Khan and Omar Hammami: American al-Qaeda: Samir Khan Escapes US Not on NoFly List

I noticed a lot of traffic today on a post I did on American Omar Hammami, also known as Abu Mansour al-Amriki. Some of that traffic, although not all, was coming from Saudi Arabia. I searched around for the source of the recent interest and found that another American, Samir Khan, is believed to be behind a new online English language magazine for al-Qaeda named Inspire. This makes the fourth known America-born Al-Qaeda member. Khan, a New Yorker, produced a similar online militant blog before he disappeared, thanks for no listting on a no-fly list. He is believed to be in Yemen. The new blog-magazine says it was posted by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Samir Khan

Khan's new website featured an English-language recruiting video by Omar Hammami, another American born member of al-Qaeda. The video, in English, is targeted to the English speaking Somali's inside the U.S. In this NY Daily News article, one of our own favorite terror blogs, The Jawa Report mentioned where I found this post dated July 28, 2010 saying that when Khan fled the U.S. he was well-known to intelligence for being attached to terrorists and terrorism, yet he apparently was not on a no-fly list.

Omar Hammami

FrontPageMagazine has this quote from Khan:
Islam denounces democracy, Islam denounces Christians and Jews, Islam denounces the corruption of the disbelievers upon the earth, and Islam is coming to crush the armies of disbelief and smash the false government and religions of the world to bring humanity from darkness into light,” wrote.
Samir Khan was born in Saudi Arabia but his family moved to Queens when he was 7-years-old. He became radicalized when at age 15 he attended a summer camp sponsored by the Islamic Organization of North America (IONA). Over the years the family moved to New Jersey and finally to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2004, which explains the numerous visitors I had today from that state. So yes, this also begs the question asked by Rusty Shackelford at The Jawa Report, how was this guy allowed to leave this country and operate openly out of Yemen? That gives us four know American-born al-Qaeda from the U.S.: Adam Gadahn, Omar Hammami, Samir Khan and Anwar al-Awlaki - who has the distinction of being on a White House targeted kill list.

US Searching for Two-Man al-Qaeda Team

Your daily terrorism alert, courtesy the Brits (Mirror) via RightTruth

American security forces were last night searching for a two-man al-Qaeda team about to attack.

Airports are on high alert as experts think the terrorists from the Yemen are on their way - but they could already be in the country.

Security analysis seen by the Mirror says the Christmas bomb plot by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, was a test run. They think it was to see if his underpants explosives plan would work. The document says: "Two people suspected of plotting further attacks are being pursued."

John Brennan Connection to Death of CIA Slain Base Chapman Chief? CIA Alec Station Michael Scheuer Gloria Borger Interview

The CIA Chief of Forward Operating Base Chapman in Afghanistan's Khost Province was a woman and mother of three. She had a long career in counterterrorism, and specifically in hunting Osama bin Laden. A former CIA agent, Michael Scheuer, interview with CNN's Gloria Borger last week and spoke of a CIA agent who "arranged an operation in 1998 that would have killed or captured Osama bin Laden. That agent may have been the assassinated Base Chapman Chief. But the kicker is what Scheuer said about Obama's Deputy Security Adviser, John Brennan and how he may have been connected to the Base Chapman Chief. Another thought is former CIA, Michael Schueur's warning that an event, just like this one, may be used to "clog" the intelligence pipeline. See links to that discussion below.

Osama bin Laden passport photo

Thank you to larwyn for the Scheuer-Borger tip.

The unnamed Chief Officer was a part of the famous, embattled and now disbanded CIA  Alec Station, which in summer 2001 saw more than a few glimpses of the September 11th attacks of the same year. Michael Scheuer, the head of the CIA's bin Laden hunt group told Gloria Borger that one of their officers (unknown if that office if the Base Chapman Chief) arranged an operational hit on Osama bin Laden in 1998, but John Brennan stopped it.  Speaking of the Christmas Day bombing, Scheuer said:
...it hurts morale even more because one of the officers who got killed had arranged an operation in 1998 that would have killed or captured Osama bin Laden. And Mr. Brennan was instrumental in preventing that operation from occurring. Instead he said the Americans should trust the Saudis to take care of bin Laden.

So it's a painful-- it's a painful death, but more importantly it's a death that didn't need to occur had Mr. Clinton -- Mr. Brennan, George Tenet, and Mr. Berger had the courage to try to defend Americans.

The following details some of the hunt for bin Laden, which the CIA Base Chapman chief was apparently involved in with Alec Station - but in no way is a criticism of her, and I cannot identify her as the agent Scheuer was speaking about. Note that I only assume she was a member of Alec Station, as is reported by the New York Times. I do not know this with any certainty.

Here is a look into this officer's past - the people she worked with and the intrigue the Alec Station was engaged in:
Working from a small office near C.I.A. headquarters, the group, known inside the agency as Alec Station, became increasingly alarmed in the summer of 2001 that a major strike was coming. One former officer recalls that the woman had a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of Al Qaeda’s top leadership and was so familiar with the different permutations of the leaders’ names that she could take fragments of intelligence and build them into a mosaic of Al Qaeda’s operations
“She was one of the first people in the agency to tackle Al Qaeda in a serious way,” said the former officer, who, like some others interviewed for this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity because the victims’ identities remain classified.
Source - History Commons: While we do not know when the Chief Officer joined Alec Station, the unit was tailing Osama bin Laden in Sudan by the end of 1991. Alec Station originated in 1995 or 1996. Members of the unit were reassigned within the CIA's Counterterrorist Center. Michael Scheurer, the first head of the unit said bin Laden had been confirmed as a serious threat as early as 1997. But in1996, Alex Station was complaining that the National Security Administration (NSA) gave them only summarized transcripts of intercepted calls between al-Qaeda members. Scheuer wanted verbatim transcripts.

Scheuer later said:
“Over time, if you read enough of these conversations, you first get clued in to the fact that maybe ‘bottle of milk’ doesn’t mean ‘bottle of milk.’ And if you follow it long enough, you develop a sense of what they’re really talking about. But it’s not possible to do unless you have the verbatim transcript.”
He also charged that the summaries they received from NSA were not timely - "they came once a week or something lie that."
Alec Station’s desire for verbatim transcripts will intensify when it discovers the NSA is intercepting calls between bin Laden and his operations center in Yemen:

However, the NSA constantly rejects its requests. Scheuer will later say: “We went to Fort Meade to ask then the NSA’s deputy director for operations [Barbara McNamara] for the transcripts, and she said, ‘We are not going to share that with you.’ And that was the end.” He will add that McNamara “said that the National Security Act of 1947 gave her agency control of ‘raw’ signals intelligence, and that she would not pass such material to CIA.”
In December 1996, the CIA learns from a CIA operative "detailed" to the NSA, that the NSA has discovered an al-Qaeda communications hub in Yemen. The CIA refuses to share and threatens punishment for the CIA officer who alerted Alec Station. The officer continued to funnel info to the team. Alec Station evenutally built its own "listening post."

Scheuer continues to complain, and is upset once more, and after asking for U.S. military special operations officers, he is refused. Late in 1996, Scheurer prepares a 50-paragraph report describing in detail how Osama bin Laden sought to obtain nuclear weapons. Some of the report was developed from info obtained fromal-Qaeda defector Jamal al-Fadl.
However, Scheuer’s superiors refuse to distribute the report, saying it is alarmist. Instead, only two of the paragraphs are circulated, buried in a larger memo.
In 1997, Alec Station notifies CIA Director George Tenet that al-Qaeda intelligence from Saudi Arabia should be considered "hostile service." In the years to come, this claim is validated. When the Alec Station assessment of al-Qaeda as a serious threat was formally known, the assessment was not deemed credible by others in the the intelligence community. Michael Sheuer was said to have an "abrasive style:"
He and counterterrorism “tsar” Richard Clarke do not get along and do not work well together. Scheuer also does not get along with John O’Neill, the FBI’s most knowledgeable agent regarding bin Laden. The FBI and Alec Station rarely share information, and at one point an FBI agent is caught stuffing some of the unit’s files under his shirt to take back to O’Neill.
The Alec Unit was almost disbanded in April and May 1998:
The CIA’s bin Laden unit, first created in early 1996...is ordered disbanded. It is unclear who gave the order. The unit appears to have been the most vocal section of the US government pushing for action against bin Laden.

Apparently CIA Director George Tenet is unaware of the plans to disband the unit. He intervenes in mid-May and preserves the unit.

Michael Scheuer, the head of the unit, later will comment that by doing so, Tenet “dodged the bullet of having to explain to the American people why the [CIA] thought bin Laden was so little of a threat that it had destroyed the bin Laden unit weeks before two US embassies were demolished.” Scheuer also will comment, “the on-again, off-again signals about the unit’s future status made for confusion, distraction, and much job-hunting in the last few weeks” before the embassy attacks.
Later Scheuer says in a one-year period beginning May 1998, the CIA gave the U.S. "about ten chances to capture bin Laden or kill him...but the decision was made somewhere that "the intelligence was not good enough." Richard Clarke "strongly disagrees with Scheurers account of the events. Both Clarke and Scheuer agree that George Tenet was the only person to kill the attack operations - not the White House.

In late summer 1998, after the African embassy bombings, the CIA asks Alec Station what it needs to get bin Laden. Scheuer again asks for verbatim transcripts of intelligence interceptions, and in particular the intelligence between bin Laden, al-Qaeda, Yemen and Afghanistan, and says the code cannot be cracked without verbatim reports.
Higher officials order the NSA to comply, and they do, but only for less than 12 requests. Then the system returns to the way it was, with NSA only sharing summaries. The reason for the change back is unclear, although bin Laden stops using his satellite phone around this time
And here is a mammoth screw-up:
The CIA seems not to understand permission given by President Bill Clinton to assassinate Osama bin Laden. The instruction was contained in a memorandum of notification signed by Clinton authorizing the agency to use a group of tribal fighters to kill bin Laden. Previously, the tribal leaders had only been authorized to capture bin Laden, and this new memo marks an important shift in policy.

According to author Philip Shenon, the memo is “written in stark language” and it makes it very clear “that the president was telling the tribal leaders they could kill bin Laden.”

However, the actual memo is closely held within the CIA, and the 9/11 Commission will comment, “This intent [to have bin Laden killed] was never well communicated or understood within the agency.”
Apparently, it is never even communicated to Michael Scheuer, head of Alec Station, the CIA’s bin Laden unit. Scheuer will later express his frustration at not being allowed to try to kill bin Laden, “We always talked about how much easier it would have been to kill him.”

In May 1999 George Tenet decides against striking on bin Laden's location three times.
Mike Scheuer, head of the CIA’s Bin Laden Unit, writes to a colleague in the field, “having a chance to get [bin Laden] three times in 36 hours and foregoing the chance each time has made me a bit angry…”
There is one more opportunity to strike bin Laden in July 1999, but after that there is apparently no intelligence good enough to justify considering a strike.
In June 1999, Scheuer loses his job and is reassigned but remains inside the Alec Station:
Deputy Director of Operations Jack Downing tells Scheuer he is being fired...Downing says he will get a medal and a monetary award, but should tell his subordinates he has resigned. Scheuer refuses to lie to his officers, signs a memo saying he will not accept a monetary award, and tells Downing “where he should store the medal.”
Richard Blee takes Scheuer's position at Alec Station. Scheuer stays with the Alec Station until 2004. Relations with John O'Neill at the FBI do not improve.

Six months later on December 29, 999, NSA notifies Alec Station that they have listened in on al-Qaeda phone calls which include contact with Khalid Almihdhar, Nawaf Alhazmi and Salem Alhazmi - all three hijackers on American Airlines Flight 77 on 0-11-01. By the time the three hijack the plane, Almihdhar and Alhazmi are on the FBI's terrorist-alert list. The FBI is also notified. The information overheard reveals that the three will attend a "summit in Malaysia in January 2000."

The CIA and other "friendly" foreign intelligence agencies track Almihdhar, hoping he will lead them to bigger fish. They learn his full name and the find that he has a "mulitple entry visa to the US valid through April 2000. BUT - they DO NOT place him on a terror watch list and they fail to tell the FBI about the visa.

Although Alec Station, the CIA’s bin Laden unit, is coordinating surveillance of al-Qaeda’s Malaysia summit, it fails to draft a full report on it to alert the rest of the intelligence community.
“Despite the importance of the operation, [Alec Station chief Richard Blee] had never bothered to write up and distribute an intelligence report on it
However, Doug Miller an FBI agent assigned to Alec Station drafted is report for FBI superiors and the timing is important - between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m on January 5, 2000, the following happens (there is no, absolutely no, intimation here that "Michelle" is the Base Chapman Chief mentioned at the beginning of this article):
A CIA officer known as “Michelle” accesses Miller’s draft about an hour after he writes it. The cable is then blocked on the orders of the station’s deputy chief, Tom Wilshire, as a few hours after Miller drafts the cable Michelle attaches a message to it saying, “pls hold off on [cable] for now per [Tom Wilshire].” Miller is also told, “This is not a matter for the FBI.”
Author James Bamford will later comment: “A potential terrorist and member of al-Qaeda was heading for the US, the FBI’s jurisdiction—its turf—and he [Miller] was putting the FBI on notice so it could take action. There was no reason to kill the message.”

'Michelle" drafts a cable falsely saying that the information about Almihdhar’s visa has been shared with the FBI and there will be a discussion the next day about whether the cable should be sent.
The Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General will later call the failure to pass the information to the FBI a “significant failure”...

The 9/11 Commission will know of the incident, but will relegate it to an endnote in its final report, omitting Wilshire’s role entirely.
Around 7p.m. on January 5, 2000:
A CIA officer known only as “Michelle” sends out a cable saying the information that 9/11 hijacker Khalid Almihdhar has a US visa has been sent to the FBI “for further investigation.”

The cable, which is lengthy and summarizes information about Almihdhar and three other operatives planning an al-Qaeda summit in Malaysia, is sent to some overseas CIA stations, but not the FBI.

...[The CIA] will repeatedly tout this cable as evidence that it had actually informed the FBI of Almihdhar’s visa, or at least thought it had done so.

However, this appears not to be true, as after 9/11 the FBI will be unable to find any record of receiving such information and the CIA will be unable to find any record of having sent it.

Michelle will apparently lie about this cable to the Justice Department’s inspector general and CIA Dirctor George Tenet.
The three hijackers disappear...the story goes on an on and Alec Station is placed with the CIA's Counterterrorist Center between January and July 2000 - which is characterized as "a larger group within the CTC. It appears that Richard Blee heads that group, and that placement is seen as a promotion.

On March 5, 2000 the CIA learns from CIA Bangkok, Thailand that Alhazmi has arrived in the US with an unnamed "companion" from Thailand on January 15, 2000. It is assumed that Almihdhar is the "companion," - although the CIA disputes the identification of Almihdhar. The agency is criticized for not placing the two terrorists on a watchlist until August 2001 - and both are apparently already in the U.S.

The FBI is not informed that the men are in the U.S. although it was widely-spread through the CIA.

In February 2001: CIA Islamabad, Pakistan asks Alec Station to "touch base" with FBI agents investigating the bombing of the USS Cole. That never happens. The CIA has identification of al-Qaeda leader Khallad bin Attash was at the Malaysia summit, doesn't tell the FBI about bin Attash - and later bin Attash is later connected to the 9/11 hijackers Almihdhar and Alhazmi.

The NSA intercepts at least one call from the 9/11 hijackers in the US to an al-Qaeda communications hub in Yemen after this and does not tell the FBI.

Early April 2001 - Richard Blee meets with Northern Alliance commander Ahmed Shah Massoud in Paris. Moussad says a terrorist act, vastly biggers than the bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania - is imminent. Declassified documents later document that Massoud has "limited knowledge" about such an attack. The warnings were not taken seriously. They later say that Massoud may have been assassinated two days before 9/11 because he trying to alert the U.S.
In late May or early June, FBI agent Margaret Gillespie is detailed to the CIA to investigate the connection between the al-Qaeda Malaysia summit and the USS Cole bombing. Gillespie examines one database, but fails to identify a second database, known as Hercules.

It is unclear why she does not do so and whether, as an FBI agent, she has access to it. If she did access it, she would have a complete picture of the CIA’s knowledge of Almihdhar and Alhazmi and would know Almihdhar had a US visa and Alhazmi had traveled to the US.
By July 2001, the Alec Station is recognizing that Khallad bin Attash is tied to the summit and the bombing of the USS Cole, and possible the African embassy bombings.

Yet Khallad is still not put on a terrorist watch list. Wilshire asks that the FBI be passed this information, but the FBI will not actually be given the information until August 30, a week after it learns future 9/11 hijacker Khalid Almihdhar is in the US.
An FBI analyst assigned to the CTC is given the task of reviewing all other CIA cables about the Malaysian summit. It takes this analyst until August 21—over five weeks later—to put together that Khalid Almihdhar had a US visa and that Nawaf Alhazmi had traveled to the US. Yet other CIA agents are already well aware of these facts but are not sharing the information.

Working with immigration officials, this analyst then learns that Almihdhar entered and left the US in 2000, and entered again on July 4, 2001, and that Alhazmi appears to still be in the US.
In July 2001 the CIA investigates, but sloppily, 8 Islamist radicals reportedly learning to fly in Phoenix. The investigation goes nowhere that it should have gone.
...in 2000, two friends of the main target of the Phoenix memo were detained and deported after twice attempting to enter a US airplane cockpit in what may have been practice for the 9/11 attacks. That same year it was learned by US intelligence that one of these men had received explosives and car bombing training in Afghanistan.

Other ties between the men in the memo go undiscovered; for instance, another person targeted in the memo had trained in al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and will later be arrested with a top al-Qaeda leader.
The CIA will say they never received the memo, including Alec Station, but this is later fairly solidly refuted.

Between July and September 11, 2001 there is a furor of activity in the FBI and the CIA, none of it yielding anything that will stop the attack. Resources are lacking, as is focus and burn-out is in full-swing.

Within hours of the 9/11 attacks, the CIA’s bin Laden unit is tasked to come up with actions that can be taken immediately to strike back at al-Qaeda.

According to Michael Scheuer, the first head of Alec Station, one of the most promising ideas considered is to ask other countries to raid Islamist charity fronts and seize computers and documents.
Scheuer will later assert that the “suggested raids would have netted far more relevant data on how the [charity front-al-Qaeda link] worked than we ever had before.” However, he claims the White House rejects the idea because of concerns that it would offend Muslim popular opinion.
On September 12, 2001, Michael Scheuer returns to the "larger group" within the CIA Counterterrorism Center to act as an adviser, but is not allowed to debrief detainees.
Other CIA officers seek out his services, but these requests are blocked, apparently by James Pavitt, the Deputy Director of Operations. Scheuer comments: “The CIA knew that Through Our Enemies’ Eyes was respected by Islamists and that, as the author, I would be an effective debriefer. Mr. Pavitt, however, put burying my career above using me to elicit information to defend America.”
So, here we are today, with press conferences explaining how we failed to stop Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from attempting to blow-up Northwest Flt. 253 on Christmas Day, and within days of that terrible even, we lost seven CIA, one the bureau chief who is said to have once been a member of Alec Station. Disclaimer: there are many sides to this story.

Is this what America is facing? Will there be lawsuits filed against numerous airlines for taking disruptive Muslims off of flights? Gloria Borger John Brennan: Gloria Borger grills John Brennan (video)

Listen as Gloria Borger, sitting in for CNN's John King, tells John Brennan that six government agencies had pertinent information on Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Christmas Day bomber - yet no one connected the dots.

He reiterates there was "no smoking gun," (already an old story), and she forces him to answer her questions. He tells her everyone in Africa buys airline tickets with cash because there is so much corruption there. That's some position for a Deputy Security Adviser to hold. If that's done in Africa that's one thing. If we don't allow that cash-paying customer to get to the U.S. that's another thing. As Bill Kristol said today, these people are not serious about a war.

Listen to this exchange. You''ll hear Brennan spinning for his life (or job).  Brennan is lying through his teeth and talking as fast as he can. He lies about "turf battles." Read it here. Brennan received a security briefing from Saudia Arabia specifically to warn him about bombers with bombs sewed into their underwear...and specifically from Yemen - just last October. Here's that report. Borger deserves a raucous "you go girl."

John Brennan Briefed about Yemen Bombs in Briefs last October

President Obama's Deputy National Security Adviser, John Brennan, was reportedly briefed about bombs in briefs (underwear) in October. An actual attempt by al-Qaeda was cited. See a video below.

The briefer who briefed Brennan on bombs-in-briefs was Saudi Arabia's chief counterterrorism official, Muhammad bin Nayef:

In late August, Nayef had survived an assassination attempt by an operative dispatched by the Yemeni branch of Al Qaeda who was pretending to turn himself in. The operative had tried to kill the Saudi prince by detonating a bomb on his body, but stumbled on his way into the prince's palace and blew himself up.
Note - that bomber was from Yemen!
Saudi officials initially thought the bomb had been secreted in the operative's anal cavity. But after investigating the matter more thoroughly, they concluded it had likely been sewn into his underwear, thereby allowing the operative to bypass security checks before his meeting with the prince. A main purpose of Nayef's briefing for Brennan was to alert U.S. officials to the use of the underwear technique.
U.S. officials believe Nayef's bomber and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab had the same Yemeni bomb maker.
At the briefing for Brennan, Nayef was concerned because “he didn’t think [U.S. officials] were paying enough attention” to the growing threat from Al Qaeda in Yemen, said a former U.S. intelligence official familiar with the briefing.
Brennan's 15 minutes of fame was on display on FOXNews Sunday today, but check the links below to read some of his more infamous behavior, of which this FOXNews Sunday interview will undoubtedly become known. Brennan said there is no smoking gun in the Christmas Day attempted bombing attack on Northwest Flight 253.

Yemen Video - Propagating Jihad

Yemen is a hot bed for jihad propagation beginning at birth. With 23.8 million people, 46.2% of the citizenry are under 14 years old; males number 5.6 million and females 5.4 million. The median average age in the country is 16.8 years old. That is just what jihad needs, millions and millions of radical teenagers. In 2009, an average of 6.32 children were born to each Yemen woman. Propagating baby jihadists is how radical Islam plans to take over your world and mine.

Anwar Awlaki dead? Nidal Hasan cleric dead? Nasser al-Wahayshi dead?

Anwar Awlaki, the cleric who corresponded with Fort Hood jihadist killer, Nidal Hasan, may be dead in Yemen after a U.S. air strike. Also believed dead is the al-Qaeda leader in Yemen, Nassar al-Wahayshi and his deputy Saeed al-Shehri. See update below.

Anwar Awlaki

Anwar Awlaki is a U.S.-born Yemeni scholar from Las Cruces, New Mexico. He moved from California to the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia in 2001. Two of the 9-11 hijackers are known to have worshipped there. A third hijacker attended his services in California. Nidal Hasan attended the mosque and his mother's funeral was held at Dar al-Hijrah. Thirty are believed to dead in the U.S. airstrike in eastern Yemen, with Awlaki thought to be among them.
"The raid was carried out as dozens of members of Al Qaeda were meeting in Wadi Rafadh," a source told AFP, referring to a rugged location about 400 miles east of the capital.
A Yemeni official, also speaking on condition of anonymity to AFP, said those attending the meeting "planned to launch terrorist attacks against economic installations in Yemen, in retaliation for Yemeni strikes launched last week."

The Sunni Muslim Ummah forum is chatting that a Yemen news source says the Awlaki killed was not the cleric Awlaki, but perhaps someone in his "famous" Awlaki tribe.

Al-Qaeda in Yemen recently changed its name to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, in an attempt to revive al-Qaeda in Saudia Arabia, where they have been thwarted by a three-years armed counter-terrorism campaign.

Abu Bashir Nasser al-Wayhayshi

Nasser al-Wahayshi was named the new group's Yemeni leader, and made news when he called for the overthrow of the Saudi royal family. Find an interesting interview with al-Wayhayshi here.

I'm assuming the death of his close confident, Anwar Awlaki, will grieve the very pious Nidal Hasan. Let's hope this guy is dead.

Stay tuned.

Update 12-25-09:
There is still no official denial or confirmation that Awlaki is dead. The HuffingtonPost is reporting "friends and relatives" saying that he is alive. While some al-Qaeda are saying that they were present during the airstrike and Awlaki is not dead, they will not answer the question: was Awlaki present at the meeting.

Nidal Hasan Al Qaeda: Nidal Hasan Anwar Al Alwaki: Hasan contacts al Qaeda?

Reports are out this morning that Nidal Malik Hasan had attempted to contact al-Qaeda. It appears there is now confirmation that Hasan and radical imam Anwar al-Alwaki were in touch, and souces indicate it was not just Alwaki. See update 11-09-09 below.

Nidal Hasan

This report from ABC says "U.S. intelligence agencies" have confirmed that Nidal Hasan was trying to make contact with al-Qaeda or people associated with them. Apparently, American officials have known this for months.

Almost everyone in the report is speaking anonymously. A "senior lawmaker" said CIA had refused to brief the intelligence committees - IF they did have any knowledge of "Hasan's efforts. " Odd words. Does this mean Congress asked and the CIA "refused," or does it mean if the CIA had information before the killings, they FAILED to brief Congress?

Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), head of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, is calling for an investigation and has ordered the preservation of all government documentation about Hasan. Lieberman says the U.S. Army (and how about other branches?) must have zero tolerance. I said it before. I'll say it again: politically correct behavior is deadly.

The video linked above reports a connection between Anwar al-Alwaki and Nidal Hasan. Hasan would have met Alwaki when he attended Alwaki's radical mosque in Falls Church, Virginia in 2001, the same year as the World Trade Towers attacks. Two 9-11 hijackers attended the mosque during that time period, and used Alwaki's Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Centre address on their driver's license. Hasan's mother's funeral was held at Dar al-Hijrah.

Al-Alwaki was born in New Mexico. His parents were Yemen, where he fled after the U.S. opened investigations into his radical actions.

Keep in mind as you read this, Brian Ross, speaking for ABC News, ended his report with these words:
...appears to be a lone wolf with serious emotional troubles
What???? Radically "left" is Brian Ross and almost all media. Unbelievable! Ross will go to the top of my "stupid, ignorant and biased" correspondent list.

Update 11-09-09:
U.S. Intelligence agencies intercepted 10-20 emails from Hasan to Anwar al-Alwaki (aka al-Aulaqi). Al-Alwaki responded back to Hasan at least twice.
[Rep. Pete}Hoekstra and others are raising questions about whether government agencies paid sufficient attention to warning signs about Hasan.
The FBI and Army attempted to question Hasan on Sunday (Nov. 8th) but he asked for his attorney.

Today, his family hired an attorney, Army Col. John P. Galligan, a former Ft. Hood military judge. The family has not had contact with Hasan.

Speaking from Yemen, American-born Anwar al-Alwaki, posted this on his website:
The only way a Muslim could Islamically justify serving as a soldier in the U.S. Army is if his intention is to follow the footsteps of men like Nidal," Aulaqi wrote, according to a translation.
Imans at al-Alwaki's former Falls Church, Virginia mosque are scrambling to denounce the statement.

Today, the military announced that Nidal Hasan will face a military trial.

Anita Gruenwald and Rita Stumpp are Murdered Brake Bible School Students in Yemen

I first wrote about the murder of Rita Stumpp (26) and Anita Gruenwald (24) on June 16th, without knowing their names. We know now that both women were students of the Brake Bible School in Lemgo (West Germany).

Rita Stumpp and Anita Gruenwald
According to the director of Brake Bible School, Matthias Ruether, the women, both nurses, were on a "short-term internship at the Al Jumhuri Hospital in Saada (North Yemen). Murdered with them was a South Korean woman, Eom Young-sun. The three were stabbed (mutilated according to some sources) and shot execution style. The murders were particularly violent, which leads authorities to believe that al Qaeda in Yemen was involved. There is some speculation that the murderer might be Said Ali al-Shihri who is considered second in command in Yemen and was once in American custody as a detainee in Guantanamo Bay - and then released. From what I can tell, this has not been confirmed, although one of the headlines reads: "former Gitmo detainee accused of killing 3 missionaries." I haven't been able to confirm the specifics of that information. I cannot confirm that the three were also missionaries. The Brake Bible School said the Gruenwald and Stumpp "were dedicated in their desire to help the needy." The women were kidnapped and then murdered. The first reporting said they were "picknicking." Kidnapped with them was an unnamed British man, and a German doctor, his wife and their three small children. The whereabouts of these people are unknown, but rumors are that they are also dead. Who would take their children to this place considered one of the most brutal on the earth...to Yemen? There is a lot for the West to learn about "witnessing" on Islamic soil - or at least a lot for the West to face up to, because we are not wanted there and our death is a cause for celebration. Some no doubt feel that God has sent them on a mission to tell Muslims about their Lord and Savior, but if that's the case, one should be fully prepared to die, and believe that their death is God's plan for their life. It will help if those at home fully understand also, because stories like this grieve us to the soul and we don't have a clue who the dead are in this awful story.

German, South Korean Women Mutilated and Butchered in Yemen

Two German nurses and a South Korean woman went on a picnic in Yemen. A shepherd was walking his fields and found their mutilated bodies. Six other foreigners were picnicking with them, and they are missing: a German doctor, his wife and their three children. See updates below. According to sources, this is the work of al Qaeda. I found this piece at Holger Awakens and in his commentary he asks this question:

I want to know how long it will be until some of the womens' groups in America protest loudly about this atrocity. It won't happen, will it? For years now, we have seen the muslim jihadis given a free pass for every atrocity towards women of this world and why is that? It's simple - everyone in the West is too scared to call it out in fear of insulting Islam. Well, we aren't here at Holger Awakens - it's an ideology of murder, of torture and human abuse. We have women's groups in America who will protest equal pay for equal work in America but won't utter a single word when it comes to a woman keeping her life or not leaving this world with a mutilation in her last few hours.
Holger is certainly spot-on that we will hear no outrage from the feminist groups in America. I have a slightly different take on why, however. I don't think it is that these women are "scared," I think Muslims are a protected species among women in this country, specifically because conservatives, men and women, HATE the Islamic culture of oppression, violence and forced marriages. Liberal women talk a lot about the right of Muslim women to wear a burkha-like shroud, but we know that isn't the issue, and it certainly is not an issue that will give these women and girls a shred of protection. Whatever the reasons, there is no excuse for the deafening silence in America - from the silence in the White House to the silence in your house. Al Qaeda Kills and Butchers 3 Foreign Female Hostages in Yemen Holger Awakens June 15, 2009
The audacity, the barbarism, the cold blooded inhumanity of al Qaeda contines and this time it is seen in Yemen where three women hostages of the al Qaeda network in that country were found today - all dead, all mutilated. The three hostages, two German nurses and one South Korean teacher were all kidnapped while on a picnic in Yemen on Friday. And it gets worse, because six other foreigners were at that picnic and disappeared at the same time - one has to wonder if they haven't suffered the same fate. Here's some of the details from the gory story over at Breitbart:
Shepherds found the mutilated bodies on Monday of two German nurses and a South Korean teacher who were kidnapped while picnicking in an area of Yemen known as a hideout for al-Qaida. Experts said the killings bore the hallmarks not of local tribesmen but of jihadist militants who had returned home after fighting in conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. The dead women disappeared in the remote northern province of Saada Friday while on an outing with six other foreigners, including a German doctor, his wife and their three young children. The whereabouts of the six were unknown, the Yemeni government said. "I think that it would have to be outside sources" that carried out the attack, said Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism expert at the Swedish National Defense College, noting that the killings, including reports that the bodies were mutilated, bear the hallmarks of al-Qaida.
When you picture this scene, stumbled upon by the Yemen sheperds, you have to wonder about a couple of things: first, what al Qaeda leader would claim responsibility for this and how would he explain the mutilation and secondly, I want to know how long it will be until some of the womens' groups in America protest loudly about this atrocity. Al Qaeda and the Taliban have shown consistently that they are simply pure evil. They follow a regimen of evil outlined for them and they, being the most righteous, follow it to a tee. And so I say, there is nothing less we can do with either al Qaeda or the Taliban than to completely eradicate them from the face of the Earth. All of them. Every last one.
Visit Holger Awakens and take a look around. If you are interested in Pakistan, the Taliban and al Qaeda, you'll learn a thing or two at Holger's.
