Jordin Sparks Straight-Talks About Virginity (MTV): Brand Urges Obama Vote

Russell Brand
Appearing at the MTV Video Music Awards, British Comedian Russell Brand slams the Jonas Brothers for their virginity, and refers to President George W. Bush as a "retard and cowboy fella." Of Governor Sarah Palin's daughter's soon-to-be husband, Brand says:
That is the safe sex message of all time. Use a condom or become a Republican!
He urges Americans to vote for Barack Obama:
As a representative of the global community, a visitor from abroad, I don't want to come across a little bit biased, but could I please ask of you, people of America, please elect Barack Obama, please, on behalf of the world.
Then former American Idol, Jordin Sparks, (and daughter of Phillippi Sparks, former NFL player) takes the stage. While Sparks did not win in her categories as Best Female Video and Best New Artist, she did win the hearts of many parents.

Thumbs up to US Weekly and People Magazine for actually reporting that the crowd cheered when Jordan Sparks leveled her comment and pulled the trigger: People.com:
Not everybody is laughing at Russell Brand at this year's Video Music Awards. Jordin Sparks spoke out against the British comedian's jokes about the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings before introducing T.I.'s performance. "I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It's not bad to wear a promise ring," Sparks, 18, told the crowd, off-the-cuff, "because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut." The American Idol winner's comments were met by an audible cheer from the crowd.
From Us Magazine.com
Russell Brand angered American Idol champ Jordin Sparks when he made fun of purity rings at Sunday's 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

During his opening monologue, Brand (a confessed former sex addict) repeatedly joked about the Jonas Brothers' purity rings, saying they should take advantage of their celeb status to get lucky.

Before introducing T.I., Sparks -- who has been open about wearing a purity ring -- slammed the Brit comedian for making the remark.

"I just wanna say, it's not bad to wear a promise ring because not every guy and a girl wants to be a slut, OK?" she told the audience.

The crowd cheered....

Brand later clarified his joke.

"I didn't meant to take it lightly," he said. "I don't want to piss off teenage fans." Later, he added, "Promise rings, I'm well up for it. [But] a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody."

Here's hoping that young Jordin Sparks is strong enough to stand-up to the sneers and spews that will now come her way.
