Hadley Hacked: Hadly Science Bogus: East Anglia Climate Research Hacked: Hadley East Anglia Global Warming Hoax

A global warming hoax? Say it isn't so...but then we've known it all along. Today, the blog post came that someone had hacked into the Hadley Climatic Research Centre in Britain. Other reports say the site hacked is Britain's University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit.

Global Warming Hoax

Over one thousand emails and 72 documents were downloaded...and they were published on the Internet. This from the Examiner at the above link:
The FTP server in a Russian domain and uses the anonymous FTP protocol, which does not require a pre-registered user account or password for downloading. The file is named FOI2009.zip, an apparent reference to US Public Law 89-554, 80 Stat. 383, the Freedom of Information Act.
As I read through the information about this find, I have to wonder if, rather than a hack, this could be an insider who finally had enough of the lies and deception.

Jeff Id at The Air Vent broke the story today,  Leaked FOIA files 62 mb of gold, after a link was left on his blog, and is now struggling with what to do with the information - what is legal and how protect himself. If you are an attorney and can offer help, follow the link to 62 mb of gold. From Jeff Id:
In the meantime, a summary of the 62 MB of data is – personal email correspondences between some of the major players Santer, Briffa, Mann, Osborne, Wahl. Data and code, the data SteveM and I will enjoy but I can’t load CA now. The code or a version of it for HadCRUT was released also. The tone of the emails is quite interesting Steve McIntyre is the focus of much of them but there are quite a few references to obstruction and making things difficult for the ’skeptics’. There are also budgetary items and grant monies- you wouldn’t believe how much money these boys play with.
The Walls Street Journal says there is confirmation that the documents are genuine and points to Russian "black hats" as the hackers. "Sensitive documents, including emails from climate scientists dating back a decade, were posted online."
Some of the old emails from scientists made public apparently make references to things like “hid[ing] the decline,” referring to global temperature series and different ways to slice and dice climate data.

In all, it seems there are more than 3,000 files in the hacked folders, which have been reposted in various places on the Internet.
WattsUpWithThat posted followup to The Air Vents original posts:
[WattsUp] An unknown person put postings on some climate skeptic websites that advertised an FTP file on a Russian FTP server, here is the message that was placed on the Air Vent today:
We feel that climate science is, in the current situation, too important to
be kept under wraps.

We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents
[WattsUp] The file was large, about 61 megabytes, containing hundreds of files.
It contained data, code, and emails from Phil Jones at CRU to and from many people.

I’ve seen the file, it appears to be genuine and from CRU. Others who have seen it concur- it appears genuine. There are so many files it appears unlikely that it is a hoax. The effort would be too great.
Read emails from "Phil Jones" to "Michael Mann," "Ray Bradley" and "Malcom Hughes" WattsUpWithThat. Here's just one example being talked about today (read more at Watt'sUpWithThat).
Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,

Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow. I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.

Mike’s series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.

Thanks for the comments, Ray.

The question remains: could the emails be a hoax? This from Hot Air:
Controversy has exploded onto the Internet after a major global-warming advocacy center in the UK had its e-mail system hacked and the data published on line.  The director of the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit confirmed that the e-mails are genuine — and Australian publication Investigate and the Australian Herald-Sun report that those e-mails expose a conspiracy to hide detrimental information from the public that argues against global warming (via Watt'sUpWithThat?):
The internet is on fire this morning with confirmation computers at one of the world’s leading climate research centres were hacked, and the information released on the internet.
A 62 megabyte zip file, containing around 160 megabytes of emails, pdfs and other documents, has been confirmed as genuine by the head of the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, Dr Phil Jones.
In an exclusive interview with Investigate magazine’s TGIF Edition, Jones confirms his organization has been hacked, and the data flying all over the internet appears to have come from his organisation.
“It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails.”

Gather.com who says if these emails prove authentic (which it appears many do), this is a scandal on the scale of The Pentagon Papers.
