More Inconvenience for Al Gore

By Jim Simpson Another film debunking much of Al Gore's hysteria has made its debut. This time it's from a scientist friendly to Gore's overall thesis, i.e. that the globe is warming and it's our fault. He goes out of his way, however, to debunk many of Gores more hysterical claims. A good start anyway. See more about it here. Another scientist who has been blasting Gore's hysteria is noted climatologist, Dr. William Gray . You can read some of his scathing comments on Gore's irresponsible global warming campaign here.

Rep Boustany on the Cut and Run Bill

By Stanford Matthews originally posted at: Blog @ MoreWhat.com Here comes the first of another series of reviews on what politicians post at The Hill's Congress Blog at blog.thehill.com. You have to fall within blog.thehill.com's criteria for worthy commenters or your comment will not get published. But we are ok with that because, one, we're not sure we want to fit that criteria and, two, it gives us an excuse to post our comments as we see fit. Any trip we take to this particular blog in search of blog fodder starts at the most recent post and works back. When we have had our fill and found enough to post, the most recent entry gets to go first here. It's fascinating how politicians avoid talking to constituents as much as possible, refuse to engage the press or media unless stringent controls are in place and flatly dodge the media when in trouble. Rather than actually doing something to get the job done, they spend a great deal of time publishing press releases and making speeches designed to criticize others for why the work is not getting done or done correctly. Rep. Charles Boustany, Jr, MD is a case in point.

Partisan Squabbling Does Nothing to Help Our Troops (Rep. Charles Boustany) April 28th, 2007 It gives me no pleasure to vote against a bill that includes many programs I have been advocating since Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. In the end, the restrictions this bill places on our men and women in uniform, and the process that was abused to buy its passage, gave me no other choice. I cannot vote for a bill that ties the hands of our troops in the field.
Everyone on the planet should know that the current majority party is the Democrats. In addition, it is also common knowledge that the Dems have spent this short majority history doing nothing but bashing and attempting to undermine the President of the United States, claiming everyone in America is for cut and run and also loading their cut and run legislation proposal with pork to get enough votes to override the President's veto pen. So GOP Rep Charles Boustany, Jr, MD, please stop putting lipstick on this pig and admit you are voting party line because you were elected in 2004, re-elected in 2006 and are quite comfortable being a rookie Congressman doing what you are told. So what have you done in the two plus years you have been in office? From his campaign website, a detailed and still vague endorsement that characterizes typical political rhetoric designed to make candidate look good without any substance. Saving your wetlands how, exactly? Working to reduce dependency on foreign oil how, exactly? Yes, you are not going to tell us. Exactly.
Nov 6, 2006 - Daily Advertiser Endorses Boustany Article published Nov 6, 2006 in The Daily Advertiser, Lafayette, LA We endorse Boustany's candidacy When we endorsed the candidacy of Charles Boustany Jr. in October 2004 - his first campaign for public office - our support was based on his carefully crafted plan to strengthen our area and make better the lives of our people - his "Prescription for Prosperity."
We don't know how or why Rep Boustany would claim to be interested in weaning us off of oil with all the energy related business in his part of the country. But he sure has done well pushing money to the state of LA. Of the $13.2 Billion for 700 water resources projects, including flood related, $3 billion is going to his state. As said earlier about putting lipstick on the pig, a rookie Congressman explaining his reason for voting party line as other than voting party line, while he gets 3 billion for his state in water resources and flood money and looks to gain road construction money while he sits on the appropriate committee. This smells like politics, not an honest concern about which way to vote on a party split appropriations Democrat cut and run bill. And as a side note, Louisiana is reported to favor Edwards in 2008 while Boustany, understandably endorses a GOP candidate and his official choice is Giuliani. And Boustany's campaign finances as reported by the Center for Responsive Politics (opensecrets.org) is about evenly split between individuals and PACs at a total near $1.5 million. Some of the money is from single issue PACs. The following is Rep Boustany's lone bill introduction that does not seem to cover those items the previously mentioned endorsement included as a reason to vote for him.
H.CON.RES.54 Title: Expressing the support of Congress for the creation of a National Hurricane Museum and Science Center in Southwest Louisiana. Sponsor: Rep Boustany, Charles W., Jr. [LA-7] (introduced 2/5/2007) Cosponsors (None) Related Bills: S.CON.RES.8 Latest Major Action: 2/7/2007 Referred to House subcommittee. Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands.
This post is not a disapproval or approval of this Congressman overall. The reason is because this was not an exhaustinve investigation but some basic research to support some commentary about his post on Congress Blog.

New Contributor: Stanford Matthews
Blog at MoreWhat.com

Stanford Matthews of Blog @ MoreWhat.com has agreed to be a contributor here at Maggie's Notebook. I'm very excited about this because I have been reading Stanford's work for some time now, and he never fails to provide good reasons to give an issue another thought or two, make me wish I had made "that" point, or make clear his penchant, and that of his Blog @ MoreWhat.com team, for quality research - always obvious in his posts - even when he rants. From my point of view, Stanford's writing is more about presenting the sides of an issue, pointing out the provocative, what makes sense or doesn't, and when he offers his own personal opinion... it is often accompanied by a generous measure of cogent wit. I asked Stanford to blog-down (as in "jot" down) why he blogs. Here's what he has to to say:

With some reluctance to talk about myself, I am offering this 'about me' profile for Maggies' Notebook and Conservative Blog for those who care to know something about the source of posts contributed by Stanford Matthews. Much of what I 'blog' about is not due to being an authority on any particular subject. My interest is purely a desire to join the discussion on issues that confront all of us. My background is primarily filled with experience in technical endeavors of one kind or another. Public affairs or political experience are not part of my resume'. But like most people, I have an opinion on most public issues and research and prepare articles to support what I believe is an objective conclusion though I pepper it sometimes with personal views. I have no party affiliation and prefer the latitude of judging matters as an independent. I view the political party mentality as much of what is wrong with debate in this country. Being objective is a near impossible task but we must make an attempt or our opinions simply reflect personal preference or bias. I believe there are good liberals and good conservatives. Finding either is the difficult part. On hot button issues I have an opinion or a position. For instance, on abortion I am pro-choice but not for the reasons you might think. And that does not mean I view abortion as just another form of contraception because it is not and should not be used for that purpose. More on this later if you're interested. I am in favor of successfully completing the mission in Iraq regardless of how we got there. One way or another we will be involved in cleaning up the mess whether it is ours or not. That is a symptom of being on or near the top of the world leaders pile of contenders. On immigration, I am definitely in favor of it. But not the way it has been mishandled for so many years. You will understand my position if you read any of the many posts published by myself or others at Blog @ MoreWhat.com as we are not concerned about who it may offend. Whether you agree with me or not is not my concern. That you engage the process and allow your voice to be heard is important. That you participate in civic affairs is mandatory. The principles and ideals on which the United States was born demand it. It is a duty. Stanford Matthews MoreWhat.com

A Soldier’s Letter to America

Cross Posted from Wake up America and Originally found at YankeeMom

No further explanation required ~

A LETTER WORTH READING

Be my voice. I want this message heard. It is mine and my platoon’s to the country. A man I know lost his legs the other night. He is in another company in our batallion. I can no longer be silent after watching the sacrifices made by Iraqis and Americans everyday.Send it to a congressman if you have to. Send it to FOX news if you have to. Let this message be heard please…

My fellow Americans, I have a task for those with the courage and fortitude to take it. I have a message that needs not fall on deaf ears. A vision the blind need to see. I am not a political man nor one with great wisdom. I am just a soldier who finds himself helping rebuild a country that he helped liberate a couple years ago.

I have watched on television how the American public questions why their mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters are fighting and dying in a country 9000 miles away from their own soil. Take the word of a soldier, for that is all I am, that our cause is a noble one. The reason we are here is one worth fighting for. A cause that has been the most costly and sought after cause in our small span of existence on our little planet. Bought in blood and paid for by those brave enough to give the ultimate sacrifice to obtain it. A right that is given to every man, woman, and child I believe by God. I am talking of freedom.

Freedom. One word but yet countless words could never capture it’s true meaning or power. “For those who have fought for it, freedom has a taste the protected will never know.” I read that once and it couldn’t be more true. It’s not the average American’s fault that he or she is “blind and deaf” to the taste of freedom. Most American’s are born into their God given right so it is all they ever know. I was once one of them. I would even dare to say that it isn’t surprising that they take for granted what they have had all their life. My experiences in the military however opened my eyes to the truth.

Ironically you will find the biggest outcries of opposition to our cause from those who have had no military experience and haven’t had to fight for freedom. I challenge all of those who are daring enough to question such a noble cause to come here for just a month and see it first hand. I have a feeling that many voices would be silenced.

I watched Cindy Sheehan sit on the President’s lawn and say that America isn’t worth dying for. Later she corrected herself and said Iraq isn’t worth dying for. She badmouthed all that her son had fought and died for. I bet he is rolling over in his grave.

Ladies and gentleman I ask you this. What if you lived in a country that wasn’t free? What if someone told you when you could have heat, electricity, and water? What if you had no sewage systems so human waste flowed into the streets? What if someone would kill you for bad-mouthing your government? What if you weren’t allowed to watch TV, connect to the internet, or have cell phones unless under extreme censorship? What if you couldn’t put shoes on your child’s feet?

You need not to have a great understanding of the world but rather common sense to realize that it is our duty as HUMAN BEINGS to free the oppressed. If you lived that way would you not want someone to help you????

The Iraqi’s pour into the streets to wave at us and when we liberated the cities during the war they gathered in the thousands to cheer, hug and kiss us. It was what the soldier’s in WW2 experienced, yet no one questioned their cause!! Saddam was no better than Hitler! He tortured and killed thousands of innocent people. We are heroes over here, yet American’s badmouth our President for having us here.

Every police station here has a dozen or more memorials for officers that were murdered trying to ensure that their people live free. These are husbands, fathers, and sons killed every day. What if it were your country? What would your choice be? Everything we fight for is worth the blood that may be shed. The media never reports the true HEROISM I witness everyday in the Iraqi’s. Yes there are bad one’s here, but I assure you they are a minuscule percent. Yet they are a number big enough to cause worry in this country’s future.

I have watched brave souls give their all and lose thier lives and limbs for this cause. I will no longer stand silent and let the “deaf and blind” be the only voice shouting. Stonewall Jackson once said, “All that I have, all that I am is at the service of the country.” For these brave souls who gave the ultimate sacrifice, including your son Cindy Sheehan, I will shout till I can no longer. These men and women are heroes. Their spirit lives on in their military and they will never be forgotten. They did not die in vain but rather for a cause that is larger than all of us.

My fellow countrymen and women, we are not overseas for our country alone but also another. We are here to spread democracy and freedom to those who KNOW the true taste of it because they fight for it everyday. You can see the desire in their eyes and I am honored to fight alongside them as an Infantryman in the 101st Airborne.

Freedom is not free, but yet it is everyone’s right to have. Ironic isn’t it? That is why we are here. Though you will always have the skeptics, I know that most of our military will agree with this message. Please, at the request of this soldier spread this message to all you know. We are in Operation Iraqi Freedom and that is our goal. It is a cause that I and thousands of others stand ready to pay the ultimate sacrifice for because, Cindy Sheehan, freedom is worth dying for, no matter what country it is! And after the world is free only then can we hope to have peace.

SGT Walter J. Rausch and 1st Platoon 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)

(h/t to Tanker Brothers)

My only comment here is Thanks SGT Rausch for your service, your battalions service and to all the men and women serving selflessly and with honor.

I hope our country proves it deserves such honor. (Note from spree--- Thanks Maggie!!!!) .

The Democratic Debate: Political Theatre

By Stanford Matthews It is not often that I take exception to something written in the Washington Post. And those of you who rightly pound on the main stream media on a regular basis should not get the idea that I ever blindly defend the news media. But I do feel that the Washington Post frequently does a reasonable job. But this time they're annoying me. And that's their right. It is also my right to point it out. It comes from the article titled, 'Democratic Hopefuls Show Political Heft.' To say that the Democratic field of candidates match the quality of any in decades is preposterous. The same could be said of the Republican field of candidates. This does not mean they are not necessarily unworthy of the right to run. It may be more accurately described as this is what is available. The minimum number of decades considered to be plural would be two. Obviously it is 2007. In 1987, George Herbert Walker Bush was the default GOP candidate of a successful two-term President by the name of Ronald Reagan. And if limited to Democratic candidates whether nominated or not in the last two decades the WaPo author may have a point. But if there are no shining examples of worthy Presidential candidates in a particular time frame, defining the current field as matching the quality is at best misleading. If merely being elected to the office of governor, congressman or senator distinguishes a candidate with some laudable quality than the bar has been set way too low for vetting candidates. Hillary Rodham Clinton represents New York in the Senate. Could it be the Democratic party determined this one time Republican could win in a big 'D' district and have the GOP concur by providing only a sacrificial lamb as an opponent to her re-election? Why else would Hillary Rodham Clinton be a Senator from New York. Check the success of the other candidates and see if their stories are not similar. Before the over-hyped Democratic debate that was refused to Fox News in favor of MSNBC, Brian Adams was on David Letterman's show dissin' the notion of the entire thing and debates essentially being a joke. For the author of the WaPo piece to express any positive impressions over their responses to 'debate' questions is also meaningless. Why do so many place such importance on what candidates say before an election? Have we not learned of the legions of campaign experts, professionals, gurus and the like employed by candidates to have them stay on message and do what they are supposed to in achieving the desired result. And how about the well established criticism of American election politics that have rendered it a mere game of ye who raises the most money wins? Quality candidates would be a laughable description if the absence of a quality field of candidates was not so pathetic a reminder of this important component of governing that has gone AWOL from American politics. The other article source with this post is simply provided as a reminder on what the quality of the Democratic field of candidates for President as well as the party leadership focus all their attention. Bashing the President rather than lending a hand to allow this country to succeed. And offering valueless proposals for the country's future that pander to a clueless voting demographic is equally reprehensible.

Democratic Hopefuls Show Political Heft ORANGEBURG, S.C., April 26 -- In the final minute of Thursday night's televised Democratic presidential debate, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware was asked by NBC's Brian Williams if he saw anybody on stage, aside possibly from himself, who could lead the party to victory next year.

Hillary - Harry - Hijackers - Hypocrisy

Arrested Militants Trained to Use Planes in Suicide Bombings

CAIRO, Egypt — Some of the militants arrested in a terror sweep in Saudi Arabia trained to use civilian aircraft in homicide missions, a Saudi interior ministry spokesman said Saturday.
Read the story at FoxNews.com. As Democrats, unbelievably, thumb their righteous noses at "America's General" Petraeus, terrorist plane hijackings are still in the news, and Congress plays mind games with funding for our troops. Read Layla's interesting comments on the emergency funding at The Hill Chronicles.

On Harry - this from David S. Broder's WashingtonPost.com op-ed:
Here's a Washington political riddle where you fill in the blanks: As Alberto Gonzales is to the Republicans, Blank Blank is to the Democrats -- a continuing embarrassment thanks to his amateurish performance.

If you answered " Harry Reid," give yourself an A. And join the long list of senators of both parties who are ready for these two springtime exhibitions of ineptitude to end.
Broder also refers to a Chris Wallace "FoxNews Sunday" interview with Chuck Schumer 'splaining' what Reid meant when he said the "the war is lost." This analysis from Broder:
Everyone got that? This war is lost. But the war can be won. Not since Bill Clinton famously pondered the meaning of the word "is" has a Democratic leader confused things as much as Harry Reid did with his inept discussion of the alternatives in Iraq.

Judge Antonin Scalia Debates ACLU President on Morality

A visit to Truth and Consequences brought the wisdom of our founders to mind with a wonderful flash video: Our Leaders on God. There, I found this from John Adams"

"[I]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure, than they have it now, they may change their Rulers and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty. - John Adams
The following video is Part 2 of a debate between Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and ACLU President Nadine Strossen. This video series, "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick, sheds a bright light on the ACLU's view of morality. Scalia, in Part 1, debates Strossen against looking to international law for guidance in American Law, Judge Scalia argues that the American people, both now and in 1791, are not the same people as the French or the German - either then or now. Strossen believes the Constitution and the Bill of Rights should change with the times and attitudes. Watch Part 2 of this debate below. I find the issue of "morality," and Strossen's view of morality and the Constitution, pertinent to much of what is going on in the ACLU today. Scalia has a firm message for the ACLU and those hoping to change the interpretation of this country's founding documents. To emphasize what seems to me to be Strossen's point: moral judgments should not be a part of criminal law. Scalia's point is: "persuade your fellow Americans" if you want to change things. Using the "incest" example in the video, John Adams words are screaming: We cannot trust decisions, made outside a consideration of morality, to be good judgment, because without morality - "...a pure virtue," and the intention to do good, and not do harm, law is not trustworthy. Guarding our morality is America's biggest challenge, because it is our morality that guards our liberty. For more on the ACLU, and ACLU President Nadine Strossen, in the news today (or not, depending on what you consider news - bloggers vs. MSM) read about Strossen's silence on the conviction of her Chief Aide for child endangerment (online sexual chatting with a 12 year old boy who turned out to be a police investigator). For the original, in-depth article, go here (also includes a video of Bill O'Reilly reporting on the ACLU and sex crimes). ACLU President: Conviction of Chief Aide?

Nadine Strossen
Professor of Law
President, American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU)
UPDATE: ACLU President Nadine Strossen's office is still dodging confirmation of her Chief Aide's conviction of explicit sexual online chatting, and attempting to arrange a meeting with a 12 year old boy, who was actually a police investigator.

Another telephone call to Strossen's office this morning: no statement. I was told someone would "...get back to me."The direct phone number to Professor/ACLU President Nadine Strossen is 212-431-2375; this from the New York Law School page where Steven C. Cunningham still appears as Strossen's Chief Aide.

Last week I was referred to an attorney: Dale Liebeck (sp???) 202-207-3630 for a statement. I did speak with Mr. Liebeck and he said he would get back to me. No return call, of course. Another call to him this a.m. left only an option for voicemail. I left a message.

THERE IS NO PRESS ON THIS:
Several bloggers are attempting to find reporting of this connection to Strossen's office. It appears there is not one report in the main stream media - NOT ONE. Nothing from New York media, where resides the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) headquarters. Nothing in the New York Daily News, The New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, New York Sun or the New York Observer - at least that I can find. The The Jersey Journal did the original reporting. Cunningham lost his license to practice law in New Jersey, BUT, he is still licensed in the state of NEW YORK.

Nadine Strossen did not commit this crime, so does it really matter that no one is confirming this or even reporting it? Well, I think it does and I've given my reasons in an earlier post. For all the details plus information on another ACLU board-member-arrest on child porn charges against a high-ranking, former, but still closely-connected, ACLU chapter president, read: ACLU President Silent on Chief Aide's Conviction.

I've also forwarded this information to Bill O'Reilly.

Interested in the mess the ACLU is making of our civil liberties? Check out Stop the ACLU.

POLL: Republican Congressmen Need More Microphone Time?

See poll at end of my email to Congress:
I have emailed the following to my Senators and Representative, as well as Senators Mitch McConnell and Trent Lott and Representatives John Boehner and Roy Blunt:
My husband and I are asking that you and every Republican Senator and Representative step-up to the microphones and confront Democrats on the truth of the issues…call-out their meaningless postulating. The fact that conservatives are seldom in the camera lens, or in front of a mic, is damaging our position on every level. We see and hear only the radical Democrats who hold a microphone like a child holds a binky. Democrats do not answer Republican charges. Hold Democrats responsible for Reid’s claim that the troop surge is not supported by the Iraq Study Group. Cheney rebutted: that statement is “plainly false.” Reid ignored it and no one pressed the issue. This is just the ammunition Liberals need – no substance – call Cheney an “attack dog.” Reid’s opinion that the war is “lost” should be fiercely confronted, daily, in front of a microphone. Remind the world of these words! Where are the rebuttals to Democrat misrepresentations? It is not true that Democrats have a “mandate.” Find a mic and define “mandate.” These positions are controversial, true, but we cannot let Democrats be the “decider.” Keep each issue alive. We need strong voices – often. Is it possible to find a microphone when you leave a committee room? If so, we encourage you to seek it and use it. Please put-on the pressure in front of the microphone, loudly and factually, and in the press in every way possible - soon. Thank you so much. We are very concerned.
Here's my poll. I appreciate your participation. National Council of Churches Supports the U.N.

When you and I attend the Sunday service at the church of our choice, how often do we contemplate the doctrine behind the church? My pastor is very conservative in thought and sticks to biblical teachings that I can confirm, within the Bible, for myself. From the pulpit, I implicitly trust him.

However, if you attend a church that is a member of the National Council of Churches or the the broader World Council of Churches, there are things to be aware of, issues to ponder and agendas to explore. It's not as simple as the NCC agreeing with your philosophy...it's the matter of a percentage of the funds you give to your church being sent to the headquarters of your denomination, and from there, likely, a donation made to the NCC.

These figures are difficult to confirm, but the National Council of Churches must be funded in some manner. On the positive side, family.org reports that donations from mainstream churches have significantly declined, but have been replaced with funds from political-action groups - and numerous qualify as "far-left" activism.

Here's two items to think about:

1) The National Council of Churches advocates for gun control and the Virginia Tech shootings has them hot on the mission.

2) The NCC wants diplomatic relations with Iran, and, indeed, a delegation from the NCC visited Iran in February 2007.

Did my donations help fund this trip? Probably.

Faultline U.S.A has written a comprehensive post on this subject, which includes the crux of the situation: United Nations Entrenched Within Most Christian Denominations. This post is an alarm bell... we need to know to whom and to where our earnestly donated monies go - and we need to know the philosophies we silently, and perhaps, unknowingly, support.

I'm not making final judgements about the National Council of Churches, as I have the United Nations (dangerous, worthless, a threat - an enemy to the United States) but it is worthwhile for Christians to understand the motives supported by our donations. I encourage you to follow the links above to Faultline's article. It is jam-packed with information, and while it may appear long, just a few lines into it and you'll grasp the importance of the issues. In my opinion, the most important link within the Faultline U.S.A. post is the tiny little word "report" which leads to a document by the Concerned Women of America. At the beginning of a paragraph look for this...:

CWA releases a report...
Click on the word report. It puts all the valuable information into perspective.

Rove, Crow, Science & Specious Speech

Sheryl Crow and Laurie David are blogging on The Huffington Post about their "introduction" to Karl Rove. The girls quote their own polite, intriguing and completely guileless questions to Rove but...only two actual quotes from him...lots of their characterization of him, however. Girls, that's not fair. Sheryl, take note: your actual quotes...your very words, were quoted everywhere yesterday. That's the fair and professional way to report. You are the beneficiary of accurate reporting. The only actual quotes from Karl Rove were: Says the girls:

...Sheryl reached out to touch his arm.
Says Rove:
"Don't touch me."
Says the girls:
How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow?...You can't speak to us like that, you work for us.
Says Rove:
I don't work for you, I work for the American people.
Had Karl Rove approached "the girls," he would have been accused of being aggressive and threatening. The girls are interested in their agenda, their opinion, the opinion of their experts - no other experts. My question: How hardened and removed from reality must you be to think that only you, and your handpicked scientists know all there is to know - about the planet Earth? FoxNews.com reported on a Rolling Stone cover piece on global warming touting the "25 Warriors and Heroes" of global warming. A short precise rebuttal is printed in the Fox piece from Steven Milloy of JunkScience.com:
Rolling Stone calls NASA scientist James Hansen the “Paul Revere” of global warming as it was Hansen who famously sounded the alarm about global warming in his 1988 testimony before Congress. But Dr. Hansen’s predictions of global temperature increases have also been famously wrong. While Dr. Hansen predicted a 0.34 degrees Centigrade rise in average global temperatures during the 1990s, actual surface temperatures rose by only one-third as much (0.11 degrees Centigrade) and lower atmosphere temperatures actually declined. At least the real Paul Revere was right -- the British did come.
And this:
Dr. Robert Watson is extolled as “The Messenger” by Rolling Stone. Watson is lauded for leading the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in concluding that humans have already warmed the planet and that the Earth’s temperature will rise by as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100. But as pointed out in this column previously, the sort of crystal ball climate modeling that the IPCC report relies on has never been validated against historical temperatures, so it’s difficult to take its predictions of future temperatures too seriously. As chairman of the IPCC, Watson was responsible for propagating the myth that only 1 or 2 percent of scientists did not believe humans were responsible for global warming. Watson, of course, overlooked at least 17,000 scientists who signed a petition cautioning against global warming alarmism – a petition compiled with the assistance of former National Academy of Sciences (NAS) president Dr. Frederick Seitz.
The article goes on to point out the flaws of other Rolling Stone "Warriors and Heroes," well-known as "experts:" Dr. Ralph Cicerone for "facing down" global warming skeptics, Dr. Robert Corell - referred to by Rolling Stone as "The Tide Turner," and the "polar bear scare," and Amory Lovins, the "Visionary," an advocate for the use of hydrogen fuel cells, but rebuttals claim manipulation of his math. To the characterizations of Karl Rove, rather than his words, here they are: Says the girls:
We asked Mr. Rove if he would consider taking a fresh look at the science of global warming.
Says Rove:
Much to our dismay, he immediately got combative. And it went downhill from there.
Says the girls:
After reminding Rove that the US leads the world in global warming pollution - and that the US does the least about it...
Says Rove:
Anger flaring, Mr. Rove immediately regurgitated the official Administration position on global warming
Says the girls:
We felt compelled to remind him that the research is done and the results are in...
Says Rove:
Mr. Rove exploded with even more venom. Like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum,...
Says the girls:
At some point during his ramblings, we became heartbroken to think that...
Says Rove: No clue. The girls do not reveal his response to their heartbreak. For more, see Sheryl Crow - Toilet Paper, Earth Day and The U.N. Sheryl Crow - Toilet Paper, Earth Day and the U.N.

Sheryl Crow, on a roll in her quest for publicity without a Lance Armstrong photo op, suggests saving trees by using:

"only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required."
When this news broke this a.m., the entrepreneurial opportunity was exciting, but Sheryl's brother is already on it, and suggests not discarding the one square but:
"...just washing the one square out."
I assume the above is Ms. Crow's attempt at levity, because any other assumption casts her in quite an unflattering light. True levity, however, can be seen in Crow working tirelessly to EDUCATE our college students with a U.S. Global Warming College Tour... and to validate the integrity of her tour, Laurie David is lending her expertise by appearing and touring with Crow. Who is Laurie David? She is the founder of StopGlobalWarming.org, a convenient tool for promoting Al Gore, and Laurie and Larry David's film, An Inconvenient Truth. The Davids are filmmakers and producers. Honestly, I encourage Ms. Crow to rest easier on the throne. There are many opinions out there, many from real experts...scientists and climatologists...who see the earth differently...who have nothing to gain by disturbing the emotional peace of nations by creating that which is probably not. Ronald Bailey, Science Correspondent for ReasonOnline, has a long list of credits, research and writings. He says, in his 2002 "Debunking Green Myths," piece:
Environmentalism is an ideology, very much like Marxism, which pretended to base its social critique on a "scientific" theory of economic relations. Like Marxists, environmentalists have had to force the facts to fit their theory. Environmentalism is an ideology in crisis: The massive, accumulating contradictions between its pretensions and the actual state of the world can no longer be easily explained away.
Bailey's article references the work of Bjorn Lomborg, a former Greenpeace member, who set-out to debunk anti-global warming rhetoric. Ms. Crow's yearning to daunt toilet paper usage might consider this from Lomborg:
Lomborg shows that claims of rapid deforestation are vastly exaggerated. One United Nations Food and Agriculture survey found that globally, forest cover has been reduced by a minuscule 0.44 percent since 1961. The World Wildlife Fund claims that two-thirds of the world's forests have been lost since the dawn of agriculture; the reality is that the world still has 80 percent of its forests. What about the Brazilian rainforests? Eighty-six percent remain uncut, and the rate of clearing is falling. Lomborg also debunks the widely circulated claim that the world will soon lose up to half of its species. In fact, the best evidence indicates that 0.7 percent of species might be lost in the next 50 years if nothing is done. And of course, it is unlikely that nothing will be done.
On the earth's rising temperature and the cost of "draconian cuts in fossil fuel use:
"...global warming caused by burning fossil fuels is unlikely to be a catastrophe. Why? First, because actual measured temperatures aren't increasing nearly as fast as the computer climate models say they should be -- in fact, any increase is likely to be at the low end of the predictions, and no one thinks that would be a disaster. Second, even in the unlikely event that temperatures were to increase substantially, it will be far less costly and more environmentally sound to adapt to the changes rather than institute draconian cuts in fossil fuel use."
Of the ACTUAL costs, in dollars and cents:
The best calculations show that adapting to global warming would cost $5 trillion over the next century. By comparison, substantially cutting back on fossil fuel emissions in the manner suggested by the Kyoto Protocol would cost between $107 and $274 trillion over the same period. (Keep in mind that the current yearly U.S. gross domestic product is $10 trillion.) Such costs would mean that people living in developing countries would lose over 75 percent of their expected increases in income over the next century. That would be not only a human tragedy, but an environmental one as well, since poor people generally have little time for environmental concerns.
Professor Bob Carter is a geologist at James Cook University, Queensland, engaged in paleoclimate research. He has this to say about human-caused climate change:
"For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero)".
"...yes, this eight-year period of temperature stasis did coincide with society's continued power station and SUV-inspired pumping of yet more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere."
"[a global warming enthusiast] will also pass by the curious additional facts that a period of similar warming occurred between 1918 and 1940, well prior to the greatest phase of world industrialisation, and that cooling occurred between 1940 and 1965, at precisely the time that human emissions were increasing at their greatest rate."
Continuing with Professor Carter's piece, notice the reference to the United Nations:
Does something not strike you as odd here? That industrial carbon dioxide is not the primary cause of earth's recent decadal-scale temperature changes doesn't seem at all odd to many thousands of independent scientists. They have long appreciated - ever since the early 1990s, when the global warming bandwagon first started to roll behind the gravy train of the UN Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - that such short-term climate fluctuations are chiefly of natural origin. Yet the public appears to be largely convinced otherwise. How is this possible? The problem here is not that of climate change per se, but rather that of the sophisticated scientific brainwashing that has been inflicted on the public, bureaucrats and politicians alike. Governments generally choose not to receive policy advice on climate from independent scientists. Rather, they seek guidance from their own self-interested science bureaucracies and senior advisers, or from the IPCC itself. No matter how accurate it may be, cautious and politically non-correct science advice is not welcomed in Westminster, and nor is it widely reported.
But Crow, on the unpopularity of any debunker's opinions, opines:
"It's past debate, it's hardly controversial doctrine."
So, to Professor Carter's "essence of the issue" and my search for any possible reason to contemplate just one little square of tissue:
Climate changes naturally all the time, partly in predictable cycles, and partly in unpredictable shorter rhythms and rapid episodic shifts, some of the causes of which remain unknown. We are fortunate that our modern societies have developed during the last 10,000 years of benignly warm, interglacial climate. But for more than 90 per cent of the last two million years, the climate has been colder, and generally much colder, than today. The reality of the climate record is that a sudden natural cooling is far more to be feared, and will do infinitely more social and economic damage, than the late 20th century phase of gentle warming.
Crow's college tours are now over, not a single scheduled concert, an album in production containing "some powerful political messages," and she's discussing your toilet paper and mine. I must hand it to her, she's getting press today. Al Gore is basking in the sweet light of the publicity he so desperately seeks, his come-back resting squarely on the shoulders of our young 20-30-somethings who are feeling the weighty burden of an absence of toilet tissue in their lives, and the urgent need to purchase Melissa Ethridge's musical global warming warning: "I Need to Wake Up," - which is generally considered a big yawn - a big bore and a huge so-what, but buy it anyway because everyone needs to support "the cause." Let's face it, Crow, Gore, Ethridge and such, need global warming-hysteria to fund their lavish lifestyles - it's all about the money. Dollars and cents take us back to the United Nations, and guess what? Climate change is a threat to global security!
FROM THE UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)UNFCCC Executive Secretary says significant funds needed to adapt to climate change impacts
The United Nations Security Council is meeting to discuss climate change as a threat to global security. Claims are that war lords will take advantage of populations "beset by flood, drought and other side effects of climate change." Forget the immediate Islamic threat, or the fact that many of these countries are already under Islamic tyranny...this from a report prepared by "retired American military" for a Virginia think tank:
The authors recommend that all branches of the U.S. military and intelligence services begin to devise national defense strategies that take into account the projected impact of climate change. "As military leaders, we know we cannot wait for certainty. Failing to act because a warning isn't precise is unacceptable."
If the world had just a glint of a legitimate "United Nations" focusing on real terrorism, the world would be a safer place, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and Syria would certainly be less a threat. "Money-grubbing wanna-be-despots" describes much of the U.N. It's always about the money, the lifestyle of the Liberal rich, the famous and the diplomats, and it is NEVER about honest debate, it is only about their decision. I cannot solve global warming, nor can Sheryl Crow, for all her light-weight thought about it. To say that:
"It's past debate, it's hardly controversial doctrine,"
...from Sheryl Crow, is ridiculous, and it's insulting to the world population who must "get-on with it" every day - get up, go to work, take care of the family, actually DONATE some time and money for worthy causes, and all without benefit of prima donna attitudes: Read this from The Smoking Gun on Sheryl's demands, and look for the cigarettes, lighter, black socks and post cards, WITH STAMPS, assumedly so that she can mail-off a note or two, with the receiver believing she actually took the time to shop for it. ACLU President Silent on Chief Aide's Conviction

ACLU President, Nadine Strossen, is not talking about her Chief Aide's criminal conviction on Child Endangerment charges, and subsequent disbarment from the New Jersey Bar. Two calls to Ms. Strossen's office attempting to confirm that the convicted Steven Cunningham is, indeed, her Chief Aide, yielded this:

"Unfortunately, I cannot confirm or deny that..."
and today...
"I'm not allowed to talk about that."
So much for the ACLU's stance on your right to know. Steven C. Cunningham thought he was chatting online with a 12-year-old boy, but instead was explaining to a police investigator how certain sexual acts could, should and would be performed when the two of them got together in New York. While acknowledgement of Cunningham's position as Chief Aide to the national ACLU President has not been confirmed for the purposes of this post, an article by Michaelango Conte for The Jersey Journal reports that:
"...court papers say he [Steven C. Cunningham] was employed by the American Civil Liberties Union in New York."
The New York Law School's profile of Strossen lists Steven Cunningham as Chief Aide to the President of the ACLU. Nadine Strossen is not involved in Cunningham's complicity, of course, but he is, presumably, her Chief Aide, and Cunningham is presently licensed to practice law in the State of New York - although now disbarred in New Jersey. The position of "Chief Aide" indicates importance, especially when you are "Chief Aide" to an important person, and Ms. Strossen certainly is considered "important." She took the Presidency of the ACLU in 1991 and is the first woman to hold this high office in "the nation's largest and oldest civil liberties organization." She has twice been named one of "The 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America." She holds other designations by various print magazines: among the 350 Women Who Changed the World, among America's 200 Most Influential Women, included in America's 100 Most Important Women, as well as other professional and academic honors. Now, if the Chief Aide or Executive Assistant to the CEO of Wal-Mart was convicted of Cunningham's charges, we would know about it. Suppose a high-ranking assistant on Dr. Laura Schlessinger's staff was so convicted - we'd know about it. What if a person of influence within Dr. James Dobson's organization was convicted of child endangerment - we know we would know about it - not only from the MSM but Wal-Mart, Dr. Laura and Dr. Dobson would be called upon to explain how this abomination could possibly happen right under their noses. From the ACLU we hear nothing - at least that I can find. Where is the national press on this matter? After spending hours looking into this, there seems to be nothing out there about Cunningham's connection to the ACLU's highest office. And what's the problem with Strossen and her office? A simple yes or no to: "is this the same Steven Cunningham - your Chief Aide, as the convicted Steven Cunningham?" It not really a difficult question. The ACLU's commitment to representing some of the vilest among us, as well as some of the vilest causes assaulting us, should be sufficient for publicly addressing those unsavories among them, when charges have been filed. A former President of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU, Charles Rust-Tierney, was recently arrested on pornography charges. There have been sparse news reports, and even sparser reporting on the long-time, tight connections with the ACLU, and his high-standing within the organization. Here's some of the WashingtonPost.com's reporting on Rust-Tierney.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Theresa C. Buchanan was not swayed, saying the images found on Rust-Tierney's computer were "the most perverted and nauseating and sickening type of child pornography" she has seen in 10 years on the bench.
Rust-Tierney, 51, who is a public defender in the District, is charged with receipt and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors say he downloaded images that included the sexual torture of children, set to a song by the band Nine Inch Nails.
The case has attracted national attention, with some critics and bloggers accusing the media of downplaying the story because of Rust-Tierney's ACLU connection....He resigned from the ACLU's board the day he was arrested.
Fox News' Bill O'Reilly definitely "factored-in" Charles Rust-Tierney. Here's his report card on the mainstream press and what they DID NOT REPORT: Video courtesy of SlashGordon And here's O'Reilly's initial reporting, as the story was breaking from Homeland Security [that's right: Homeland Security]: Video courtesy of Techvids052006 If you care about civil liberties, but are shocked and dismayed at the ACLU's defense of, and protection of, those who mock our Constitution, and put our children and our most beloved traditions at risk, visit the Stop the ACLU for constant breaking news, updates and commentary.
