Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan Missing: Brother of Dubai Ruler Missing

Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan is Dubai ruler, Sheikh Kahalifa bin Zayed's brother. Sheikh Ahmed has been missing since the glider plane he was in came down in a lake. The pilot was found safe, but there is not sign of Sheikhm Ahmed. See 3-29-10 update below. Latest Update 3-31-10: The body of Sheik Ahmed was found in Lake Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, near the Rabat, the Moroccan capital city. The family is reported to be frequent visitors to the area and owned a palace overlooking the lake reservoir.

A lake in Morocco, about 20 miles southeast of the capital city of Rabat, was searched yesterday. Sheikh Ahmed is the youngest brother of Sheikh Kahalifa and is not in immediate line for the throne.

Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan (41), is listed on Forbes World's Most Powerful list at No. 27. He is the managing director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. The fund is considered the most "discreet" of the Abu Dhabi funds, and the fund's risk is diminished by holding less than 5% of corporations around the world, with total assets estimated between $300B and $800B. This piece in the L.A. Times says the fund is estimated to have $627 billion in assets and has stakes in Citigroup and Hyatt.

BusinessWeek described the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority as the "world's largest sovereign wealth fund."

All reports indicate today that the Moroccan police are still searching for Sheikh Ahmed.
