Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi is CIA Suicide Bomber Double-Agent

The suicide bomber who killed four CIA officers and three contract security guards in Afghanistan last week was a Jordanian physician working with al-Qaeda. He was also a member of the Afghan National Army and a double-agent. Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Bawlawi was 36 and from the same hometown as al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who bought the farm, courtesy of an American air strike in June 2006. Al-Bawlawi was known in jihad chat rooms as Abu Dujanah al-Khurasani. See a response to a reader who objects to my characterization of al-Balawi as an "animal" and a "killer" below. See update 1-9-10 and video below.

The Jordanians believed that al-Balawi had been successfully reformed and brought over to the American and Jordanian side. They set him up as an agent and sent him to Afghanistan and Pakistan to infiltrate al-Qaida.

His specific mission, according to officials, was to find and meet Ayman al Zawahiri, al-Qaida’s No. 2, also a physician.

However, a Taliban spokesman, quoted on the Al-Jazeera Web site, said al-Balawi misled Jordanian and U.S. intelligence services for a year. The spokesman, Al-Hajj Ya'qub, promised to release a video confirming his account of the Afghanistan attack.
On the Internet, this animal said he had a love for jihad...:
“They say 'there's love that kills.' And I only see that as truthful in the love for jihad, as this love is either going to kill you in repentance should you choose to sit away from jihad, or will kill you as a martyr for the cause of Allah if you choose to go to Jihad, and the human must choose between these two deaths.”
Shortly before the attack, al-Bawlawi called "his handler" Sharif Ali bin Zeid and said he had important information to relay to the CIA. Some CIA flew in from Kabul and everyone anticipated an important meeting, yielding important news from their "trusted informant."

That's when everyone died, including Sharif Ali bin Zeid, who was a Jordanian intelligence officer and a first cousin of the Jordanian king, and a grandnephew of the first king Adbullah.

Jordan apparently has arrested the killer's younger brother and ordered the family not to set up a "condolence tent" for their dead son.

A CIA official, speaking to NBC said the attack will be revenged, and "some very bad people will eventually have a very bad day." The official spoke under anonymity.

A reader sent an email objecting to my characterization of Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi as an "animal" and a "killer." See my response here.

Update 1-9-10:
Human Khalil Abu Mulal al-Balawi sat beside Hakimullah Mehsoud and read a statement about why he planned to blow-up himself and others in the CIA facility. He planned revenge for the death of Baitullah Meshud, who died with a $5 million bounty on his head in a drone attack in August 2009. Mehsud left his battlefield long enough to visit his "first" wife in the hopes she would conceive a "son." As he lay on a roof top couch, he was zapped. Not only did the he die at behest of American ingenuity, but he exited the world with only daughters. Extremely bad karma in the Muslim world. Read more about that here.

Mulal al-Balawi's side-kick in the video, Hakimullah Mehsoud took over for Meshud in a contentious tribal battle.
