Penelope Cruz Roman Polanski: Cruz Demands Polanski's Release

This is one time Rose O'Donnell gets it right. She says she doesn't understand the "stars" speaking out on behalf of Roman Polasnki. Penelope Cruz, however, the Spanish actress is "demanding" Polanski's release. Penelope Cruz...a citizen of Spain...not the U.S. See update 10-23-09  11-26-09 below - Polanski gets bail. Update 1-23-10: Polanski ordered to US to face charges.

Penelope Cruz - Woody Allen

The petition Cruz signed, along with raving liberal Woody Allen, who married his own child, says "We demand the immediate release of Roman Polanski." The petition also reminds us that Roman Polanski is a citizen of France - and, if extradited to the U.S., Polanski will have his "freedom take[n] away.

Well, yes... Hollywood - get over yourself. There are just a few of you out there - no capitalists, of course. Just the non-capitalist elitest few who think the law is an annoyance and the rest of us are plebes. You know nothing. See the "signatories" of the petition here.

Not many recognizable names on this one, however ABC Distribution stands out. Here's another petition bearing the names of Mike Nichols, Steven Soderbergh, Salman Rushdie and Diane von Furstenberg.

The victim's wishes are really not the point. For every 13-year old girl that is molested and the molester escapes justice, another will sooner or later be abused. It doesn't take much to encourage those who would consider, even for one minute, touching a minor. Remember that Samantha Geimer, the victim, "outed" herself:
She long ago came forward and made her identity public -- mainly, she said, because she was disturbed by how the criminal case had been handled.
On behalf of all past victims of pedophilia, and those who will be victims in the future, I hope Switzerland has the determination to do what it should do.

Update 11-26-09:
Roman Polanski was granted bail in the Swiss courts after a $4.49 million bail deposit, full surrender of his passport and travel documents to the Zurich police, and the donning of an electronic ankle bracelet. Polanski will spend his time guessing whether or not the Swiss will send him packing back to the U.S. to receive his punishment for the assault on Samantha Geimer, all cozied up in a Swiss chalet known as the "Milky Way." He will be confined to house arrest inside the luxury $1.6 million Alpine abode:
Even without stepping outside, Polanski's life will improve from the small detention cell he had in Zurich with a sink, toilet, television and storage compartment.

Gstaad (pronounced guh-SHTAHD) offers a range of quality restaurants and hotels, and "people here can order food to their chalets any time," said Marlene Mueller, of the local tourism agency.

From the gourmet shop Pernet Comestibles, fine food such as fresh oysters, Swiss cheeses and a range of whiskies and wine can be delivered.
And, even though Polanski may now be the world's most famous fugitive, most locals are likely to leave him alone.
