Tiger Woods Tips: No Tips Tiger: Joy Behar Tiger Woods: Charity Begins with Conservatives

Along with being a multi-philandering husband who wants fans to believe he is remorseful, Tiger Woods is said to be a terrible tipper. In fact, he is no tipper at all. Joy Behar had some comments about Tiger and noted that he is no "right-winger," and as a result is not a hypocrite. And how about some insight into the charitable giving of both conservatives and liberals?

Tiger Woods

Tiger doesn't carry money. Kinda like President's and First Ladies. They carry no cash and that is Tiger's excuse as a billionaire who cannot tip for service. He evidentally doesn't even instruct his entourage (you know he has one) to tip for him - as do Presidents.

Tiger is not alone, although he is likely the wealthiest on the list of worst celebrity tippers. John Kerry, Rachel Ray, Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Regis Philbin, Kelly Preston and Bill Cosby (this surprises me), among others, are alleged to be poor tippers.

Here you and I are, just the average working person out here, and we leave tips that are at least adequate, and sometimes more than adequate. I would never consider not leaving a tip unless my service was atrocious and, if that happened, I would be talking to the manager as well as keeping the tip in my pocket.

About Joy Behar and her comments about Tiger, here's one:
JOY BEHAR: Let me say this on his behalf. He has never held himself as one of these pro-marriage, right-wing, kind of guys who is anti-gay. In other words, the guy is not a hypocrite in his personal life.
But...but...Joy listen-up. After a discussion of stars who took a tumble, David Crary in the Tulsa World quotes Tiger (or is this really just about gays, Joy?):
Woods, however, was unique — a globally recognized brand name that evoked impeccability and historical greatness. His sponsors and handlers, his admiring chroniclers in the media, and especially Woods himself contributed to the image-making.

The public had become jaded and indifferent — they expected Barry Bonds and Marion Jones and Sammy Sosa to fall," said psychologist Stanley Teitelbaum, author of Sports Heroes, Fallen Idols."

"But no one really expected that of Tiger Woods," he said. "Now that it happens to him, people are not as indifferent — there's more disappointment and more disillusionment."

Woods, for all his preoccupation with mastery on the course, had managed throughout his career to be viewed as more than just a golfer — loving son to his parents, civic-minded creator of a foundation serving disadvantaged children, devoted father who said he'd play less golf so he could spend more time with his two young children.

He didn't embrace social causes, and sometimes there were brief flashes of temper or crudeness. But as far back as 1997, he was on record as welcoming the responsibilities of role model.

"I think it's an honor to be a role model," he was quoted as saying in a Business Week article. "If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person's life in a positive light, and that's what I want to do. That's what it's all about."

If that was Woods' goal, Teitelbaum said it had been achieved.

"In terms of a role model, he's A-one," the psychologist said. "The fans, and especially kids, are desperate to have role models to look up to. ... People have made him the designated sports hero

"When you're among the high-flying and adored, your public will give you unconditional love as long as you continue to perform," Teitelbaum added. "But there's a responsibility to be that much more careful and that much more transparent and, when something does happen, to deal with it openly."
Liberals believe they are not hypocrites because they don't stand for anything. They do a lot of talking about caring for the downtrodden, and their campaigns are all about controlling the downtrodden, but not only do they not tip well, their charitable donations fall far below that of conservatives. From George Will at RealClearPolitics:

-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).

-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.

-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.

-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.

-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

-- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.
I remember Rosie O'Donnell saying in an interview on the subject of Liberals vs. Conservatives and charitable giving, that charity is the responsibility of the government. No, charity seems to begin with conservatives.
