Daniel Hannan Supported Obama: Hannan Praises BO on School Choice

What on earth would make previously-thought conservative Brit, Daniel Hannan, burst our bubble and tell us he supported Barack Obama, or remind those who did know, more than a year later?

Karen at The Lonely Conservative has a shorter and pithier rant than mine. I know, I do go on.

Hannan doesn't like Obama's foreign policy. He didn't like the offensive gifts to Queen Elizabeth or returning the historic bust of Winston Churchill on the second day Barack took office, but those were "minor irritants," he says. He didn't mention Michelle's inappropriate cardigan at Buckingham Palace, or her shocking (to Queen Elizabeth) hug of the reigning Royal.

No, he is troubled about the dangerous foreign policy, unknown in any other modern day American administration: 

...the Obama administration is backing Peronist Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands, or as Obama's people call them, "the Malvinas." British troops were the only sizable contingent to support the US in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have fought alongside America in most of the conflicts of the past hundred years. Yet when the chips are down, Obama lines up with Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega against us.

It has alienated Israel and India. It has even managed to fall out with Canada over its "Buy American" rules and its decision to drill in disputed Arctic waters. Never has there been a worse time to be a US ally.

No one denies that Obama was dealt a rotten economic hand; but he has played it ineptly. His policies are serving to make his country poorer, and less free and less respected. And that is a problem for all of us.

Well, yes, Mr. Hannan - he had no foreign policy experience. Running the streets of Chicago is a bit different than running the U.S. We conservatives knew it. We thought you were of similar mind.

 Hot Air pointed out that Hannan feels good about Obama's commitment to school choice. I said "What?" Hot Air said," huh?" Now that's a stunner. Hannan didn't pay attention in 2008, and isn't paying attention now unless it affects his own country:
In February 2009, one month after infiltrating the Oval Office, the Wall Street Journal muses:

So we'll be curious to see how he handles the dismaying attempt by Democrats in Congress to crush education choice for 1,700 poor kids in the District of Columbia.

The answer came in May of the same year. Obama provided the vouchers for the 1,716 students already in the Washington D.C. program, and will allow them all to finish through graduation, but that's the end. 

No more children in disadvantaged areas, attending miserable excuses for schools, will receive vouchers or grants as long as Barack Obama has a say  - including the students wanting to enter his own daughters' school, the prestigeous Sidwell Friends. None of that riff-raff sitting side-by-side the Obama girls.

We can we forgive the New York Sun for believing Obama on the campaign trail in February 2008, even though he had already promised the National Education Association (NEA) he would not support vouchers. After all, BO was  handsome, spoke so beautifully, had a mouthful of pearly whites, and a long history of lying through them - but in those early days, who knew?

He [Obama] said he was astonished to learn that a voucher program in Milwaukee had never been tested in a longitudinal study to find out whether it had helped children or not. "If there was any argument for vouchers it was, all right, let's see if this experiment works, and then if it does, whatever my preconceptions, my attitude is you do what works for the kids," Mr. Obama said.

Did Hannan know anything about Obama's failed leadership of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge? How he scammed millions, at least $50 million - maybe $110 million, from deserving schools and funneled it to Flag-stomping, Weather Underground terrorist, Bill Ayers?

Does he know that funds were used for ethnic studies, leaving white children to flounder, with grants going to the South Shore African Village Collaborative to celebrate Juneteenth, while The Chicago Algebra Project request for a grant was rejected. The District 5 Math Initiative request for a grant was also rejected. It goes on and on.

It's despicable, and by the way, remember that Obama shared an office with terrorist Ayers for three years, verified by the IRS.

Daniel Hannan is a financial genius. He "gets" the pounds sterling and the U.S. dollars. He understands redistributing wealth, and sees it happening in his own country. He doesn't like it. He doesn't understand Obama's willingness to turn over the Falkland Islands to Argentina, even though the people are happy being a part of the U.K., and have been for over 175 years.

Now Hannan can understand how we feel. Obama doesn't discriminate. He takes land, including national forests, 80 miles from the U.S. Mexico border, and turns it over to Mexican drug thugs and smugglers, bandits, rapists, human traffickers, pedophiles and murders, as happened today, Hannan's disgust doesn't come close to mine/ours.

Among the many, many reasons not to accept the health care reform that the administration is planning for us, here are two. Maybe taking them in small doses will make am impact. One is discussed in the video below and one is not.

First, the issue not in the video: if you are a wealthy person, or a middle-income person and you take solace in the fact that you will just pay a physician for your care and to heck with the government plan, think again. Your physician may (may, maybe, maybe not) be able to treat you, but if you need a procedure that will put you in a surgical facility - your physician will not be in a position to get you scheduled. That can only be done through the government program. There will be no private surgical facilities, because the hospitals must approve every facility outside of their domain. Second, the issue in the video discusses prostate cancer. Glen Beck and Britain's Daniel Hannan discuss the inadequacy of Britain's universal health care. Beck offers some prostate cancer statics: Currently in the U.S. there is a 100 percent relative survival rate, in Canada the relative survival rate is 95 percent and in the UK - only 77 percent. If cancer has not been introduced to your family, your friends or your co-workers...yet, you are fortunate, but you know you will not escape it forever. Daniel Hannan: Do we Have a Daniel Hannan in our Congress?

My first observation: Daniel Hannan is not speaking with a teleprompter in the video below. This man stood in Parliament with Prime Minister Brown sitting at table in front of him, and explained with great specificity why Brown is now the devalued Prime Minister of a devalued Government.

I continue to ask: where are America's Defending Fathers? They should be in the House and the Senate. Does anyone in Congress have the guts to stand and duplicate this speech from the floor? Just change a few trivial details, like substitute Barack Obama's name for Brown's, in most places, moderate a bit that it's not over for us yes, but we're close..and give the speech. Prime Minister, I see you’ve already mastered the essential craft of the European politician, namely the ability to say one thing in this chamber and a very different thing to your home electorate. You’ve spoken here about free trade, and amen to that. Who would have guessed, listening to you just now, that you were the author of the phrase ‘British jobs for British workers’ and that you have subsidised, where you have not nationalised outright, swathes of our economy, including the car industry and many of the banks?

Perhaps you would have more moral authority in this house if your actions matched your words? Perhaps you would have more legitimacy in the councils of the world if the United Kingdom were not going into this recession in the worst condition of any G20 country?

 The truth, Prime Minister, is that you have run out of our money. The country as a whole is now in negative equity. Every British child is born owing around £20,000. Servicing the interest on that debt is going to cost more than educating the child.

Now, once again today you try to spread the blame around; you spoke about an international recession, international crisis. Well, it is true that we are all sailing together into the squalls. But not every vessel in the convoy is in the same dilapidated condition. Other ships used the good years to caulk their hulls and clear their rigging; in other words – to pay off debt.

But you used the good years to raise borrowing yet further. As a consequence, under your captaincy, our hull is pressed deep into the water line under the accumulated weight of your debt We are now running a deficit that touches 10% of GDP, an almost unbelievable figure. More than Pakistan, more than Hungary; countries where the IMF have already been called in.

Now, it’s not that you’re not apologising; like everyone else I have long accepted that you’re pathologically incapable of accepting responsibility for these things. It’s that you’re carrying on, wilfully worsening our situation, wantonly spending what little we have left.

Last year - in the last twelve months – a hundred thousand private sector jobs have been lost and yet you created thirty thousand public sector jobs. Prime Minister, you cannot carry on for ever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit. You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt. And when you repeat, in that wooden and perfunctory way, that our situation is better than others, that we’re ‘well-placed to weather the storm’, I have to tell you that you sound like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line.

You know, and we know, and you know that we know that it’s nonsense! Everyone knows that Britain is worse off than any other country as we go into these hard times. The IMF has said so; the European Commission has said so; the markets have said so – which is why our currency has devalued by thirty percent. And soon the voters too will get their chance to say so. They can see what the markets have already seen: that you are the devalued Prime Minister of a devalued government.
