Farooque Ahmed Arrested for Planning Multiple Bombings in D.C. area

The Department of Justice has announced the arrest of Farooque Ahmed for planning to assist in multiple bombings at Metrorail stations in the Washington, D.C. area. He is believed to have ties to al-Qaeda. Another naturalized Muslim plans targets his country. Watch for updates and photos when available.

Ahmed, 34, is from Ashburn, Virginia. He said he planned to kill as many people as he could, and on the list of places to bomb is the metro station close to Arlington Cemetery.

"It’s chilling that a man from Ashburn is accused of casing rail stations with the goal of killing as many Metro riders as possible through simultaneous bomb attacks," said U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride. "Today’s arrest highlights the terrorism threat that exists in Northern Virginia and our ability to find those seeking to harm U.S. citizens and neutralize them before they can act. We are grateful for the outstanding work of the FBI in detecting and disrupting this plot."
Yesterday, a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Va., returned a three-count indictment against Ahmed, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan, charging him with attempting to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization, collecting information to assist in planning a terrorist attack on a transit facility, and attempting to provide material support to help carry out multiple bombings to cause mass casualties at D.C.-area Metrorail stations. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison.
Ahmed will make his first appearance before a judge at 2 pm EDT today.
According to the indictment, from April 2010 through Oct. 25, 2010, Ahmed attempted to assist others whom he believed to be members of al-Qaeda in planning multiple bombings to cause mass casualties at Metrorail stations. On April 18, 2010, Ahmed allegedly drove to a hotel in Dulles, Va., and met with a courier he believed to be affiliated with a terrorist organization who provided Ahmed with a document that provided potential locations at which future meetings could be arranged. On or about May 15, 2010, at a hotel in Herndon, Va., Ahmed allegedly agreed to watch and photograph another hotel in Washington, D.C., and a Metrorail station in Arlington, Va., to obtain information about their security and busiest periods.
According to the indictment, Ahmed allegedly participated in surveillance and recorded video images of Metrorail stations in Arlington, Va., on four occasions. On or about July 19, 2010, in a hotel room in Sterling, Va., Ahmed allegedly handed a memory stick containing video images of a Metrorail station in Arlington to an individual whom Ahmed believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda. On that same day, Ahmed allegedly agreed to assess the security of two other Metrorail stations in Arlington as locations of terrorist attacks.
The indictment further alleges that, on or about Sept. 28, 2010, in a hotel room in Herndon, Ahmed handed a USB drive containing images of two Metrorail stations in Arlington to an individual whom Ahmed believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda.
According to the indictment, on or about Sept. 28, 2010, Ahmed provided to an individual whom he believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda diagrams that Ahmed drew of three Metrorail stations in Arlington and provided suggestions as to where explosives should be placed on trains in Metrorail stations in Arlington to kill the most people in simultaneous attacks planned for 2011.

Amen Ahmed Ali is California Yemen-American Agent Sentenced

Amen Ahmed Ali accepted a plea agreement in Bakersfield, California on charges that he was acting as an agent for the Islamic country of Yemen. He admitted "illegally exporting military equipment, possession of stolen U.S. property and conspiracy to act as an illegal agent for a foreign country between 1997 and 2006. Note that he was aiding terrorism before September 11, 2001. Thrown in the pot of indictments, Ali was initially charged with "acquiring and transmitting secret defense information obtained from a government undercover agent. For this, he is sentenced to a maximum of 5 years in prison.

Amen Ahmed Ali Arrest

Ali is a naturalized U.S. citizen according to this Bakersfield news site. He was born in Yemen and has been in California for more than 30 years. A Federal Judge ruled that he was not eligible for bail due to risk of flight, and has apparently been held in a Bakersfield jail since early 2007

Amen Ahmed Ali, who would be about 60 years old now, had two accomplices indicted by a federal grand jury in Fresno, California: Mohamed Al-Rahimi of Bakersfield, about 66 years old today, and California and Ibrahim A. Omer of Fort Worth, Texas, about 44. The arrests came after a two year investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force along with the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff's office.

Prosecutors said Ali shipped night-vision goggles, laptop computers, and satellite phone sold to him by an FBI undercover-agent who posed as a soldier of the U.S. Army. He also admitted shipping bulletproof vests, and chemical protective suits. Source: Fox News

Ali reportedly had access to five bank accounts holding large amounts of money. Prosecutors had 115 taped phone calls authorized under FISA.

According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in September 2006, the man had several aliases: Ali Amin Alrowhani, Amin Al Rohany and Ameen Alrohany.

The original counts charged:
COUNT ONE (Ali) - Conspiracy to Possess and Transmit Defense Information - 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine;
COUNT TWO (Ali and Omer) - Conspiracy to Unlawfully Export Defense Articles - 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine;
COUNT THREE (Ali and Omer) - Attempted Unlawful Export of Defense Articles - 10 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine;
COUNT FOUR (Ali and Al-Rahimi) - Conspiracy to Possess Stolen Government Property - 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
For this and his guilty plea, the man will spend only five years in prison, the maximum penalty. Sentencing is January 24th, 2011. That's like a slap on the wrist to a dedicated Muslim terrorist. If his previous jail time on the charges are considered (and I cannot confirm they will be counted) Ali will spend only 1 year in prison.

According to JihadWatch, when the arrests first occurred on September 8, 2006, accomplice Ibrahim A. Omer was taken into custody in Bossier City, Louisiana, and Al-Rahimi was being sought. I'm finding no arrest or conviction information about Mohamed Al-Rahimi.

Obama Admin FBI Still Cozy with CAIR: Uses CAIR Officials to Represent US Abroad

The FBI said they cut all ties to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in 2008 because of terrorist connection, but nevertheless, paid for a CAIR official to travel to Mali to say America discriminates against Islamicists through racial and religious profiling by law enforcement. This is not a one-time event. The Mali visits happened a second time!

One of the FBI's "top agent[s]" in Chicago spoke at an event moderated by a CAIR attorney and, according to The Investigative Project on Terrorism:
[the] State Department money also financed Walid's [Dawud Walid Executive Director of CAIR] trashing of American treatment of American Muslims. "Since the tragedy of September 11, 2001, American Muslims have been subjected to increased discrimination from racial and religious profiling by law enforcement, a rise in hate crimes, work place discrimination, to the recent trend of some citizens and elected officials protesting the construction of new mosques.
Late last year, an Imam named Luqman Ameen Abdullah was shot 21 times including twice in the back during a raid by law enforcement agencies based upon an investigation of his mosque, which ended up proving no links to terrorism or treason," Walid said in Bamako, Mali.
As he has done since the Abdullah shooting last October, Walid failed to tell his audience that Abdullah fired first as FBI agents moved in to arrest him. Four other people who did not fire as agents advanced were arrested unharmed. That went unmentioned, too...
The trip was organized by Michigan State University, Walid said, but funded by the federal government.
The State Department needs a thorough cleaning. I blame George W. Bush for not taking on the task when he first took office. CAIR is a lie. Whatever they say, you can count on it being just the opposite. CAIR's presence in this country is an ongoing jihad.

David Stone is Hutaree Leader: David Stone Seditious Conspiracy

David Stone, the alleged leader of Hutaree has escaped the FBI and is said to be on the run. He and his family, as well as others have been charged with Seditious Conspiracy. Correction: David Brian Stone is in custody. Joshua Stone is currently a fugitive. Update: 3-31-10 below.

Top Row Left: David Brian Stone 44, David Brian Stone Jr. 19, Jacob Ward 33, Tina Mae Stone 44
Bottom Row Left: Michael David Meeds 40, Kristopher T. Sickles 27, Joshua John Clough 28, Thomas William Piatek 46

The most striking thing I am noticing this morning is that the "Islam" angle has completely evaporated. I'll have continuous updates here. Also odd, Hutaree is apparently believed to plotted to kill police, then attend the funeral and kill the mourners. Yesterday, reports were that one of the members was arrested at a funeral for another Hutaree member who died of natural causes. Coincidence?

From the indictment: The charge against those arrested is:
"Seditious Conspiracy and Related Charges: "...indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit on charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, teaching the use of explosive materials and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence...
Those charged:
David Brian Stone, 45, his wife, Tina Stone, 44, his son Joshua Matthew Stone, 21, of Clayton, Michigan, and his other son, David Brian Stone, Jr., 19 of Adrian, Michigan, Joshua Clough, 28 of Blissfiled, Michigan, Michael Meeks, 40 of Manchester, Michigan, Thomas Piatek, 46 of Whiting, Indiana, Kristopher Sickles, 27, of Sandusky, Ohio and Jacob Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio...
All of the above are said be a part of Hutaree.
"...the Hutaree, conspired to oppose by force the authority of the U.S. government. According to the indictment, Hutaree members view local, state, and federal law enforcement as the "brotherhood," their enemy, and have been preparing to engage them in armed conflict."
...Because the Hutaree had planned a covert reconnaissance operation for April which had the potential of placing an unsuspecting member of the public at risk, the safety of the public and of the law enforcement community demanded intervention at this time."
Continuing updates.

Update 3-31-10:
A report out today says that an undercover FBI agent was involved in the arrests.
David Brian Stone used several aliases or nicknames: "R.D.," "Joe Stonewall," and "Captain Hutaree,"

Hutaree Christian Militia Raided: Hutaree CAIR Involved: Hutaree Message Board Intrigue: Christians Make Janet Napolitano's Day

Sealed warrants. Raids. Searches. A small army of helicopters swarming. Neighbors shocked to find that it is Janet Napolitano's lucky day because those right-wing Christians are misbehaving, just as she said they would. Allegedly, the arrests are of members of a group known as Hutaree, are a part of something known as the Colonial Christian Republic, and are described as a Christian militia. But there is far more to this story. The Council on Islamic Relations (CAIR) has made a statement, and a woman "on the run" has left a message of intrigue - complete with the FBI hijacking the website of another militia. See Update 3-29-10 below.

Hutaree - Christian Soldiers

While warrants are sealed and the names of the arrested are unknown, someone knows something because "a network journalist" called CAIR executive director, Dawud Walid -- while he attended a banquet and the "network journalist" knew enough to make the Muslims in the banquet hall "gasp" when Walid  told the crowd of "alleged threat against Muslims." I'll make a prediction that someone from a Michigan mosque went to the FBI. Am I jaded? Probably. Maybe not.

But remember, you and I know next to nothing - but the "network" journalist knows enough to call CAIR.

The raids by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force and Homeland Security, were a part of an investigation in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, with arrests made in Adrian, Michigan, and others in Ohio and Illinois.

Detroit News says the group describes themselves as "Christian soldiers preparing for the arrival and battle with the anti-Christ." And the story is, Hutaree (meaning Christian soldier) made a threat, or threats against some Islamic organization.

Reports make it obvious that authorities prepared to battle these "Christian soldiers."
WXYZ-TV reports that helicopters were spotted in the sky for much of Saturday night, and agents set up checkpoints through the area. Witnesses told the station that it was like a small army had descended on the area.
There are official Michigan militias: Michiganmilitia.com and The Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia. Neither of these groups were a part of the raid. A spokesman for Michiganmilitia.com, Mike Lackomar, said he was told by "other militia members" that the:
"FBI targeted the Hutaree after it's members made threats of violence against Islamic organizations.
One of the Hutaree members called a Michigan militia leader for assistance Saturday after federal agents had already began their raid, Lackomar said, but the militia member -- who is of Islamic decent and had heard about the threats -- declined to offer help. That Michigan militia leader is now working with federal officials to provide information on the Hutaree member for the investigation, Lackomar said Sunday.
"They are more of a survivalist group and in an emergency they withdraw and stand their ground. They are actively training to be alongside Jesus," he said.
The Michigan Messenger is reporting a Hutaree member (Anna) whose home was raided by the FBI is on the run with her child. She allegedly placed a message on a message board:
The Federal Authorities have raided not only our group but also the Michigan Militia. They had hijacked their website and placed word there that they were not raided.
We need some help please. This has to stop. I am enroute south with my children using the wifi's as I can.
They were catching others as they came to their rallying points, they broke into homes and took children and used the tasers on wives, my son who is 12 and I got out by crawling through the creeks behind our house.
My husband and others are taken, please call the press and tell them, if any in the Michigan Militia is still free please rally with them. Please help.
Well, yeah, I bet there is a lot of enthusiasm for "rallying" with a Michigan militia group.

The Hutatree website shows the photo above, and a video on the homepage shows members running through the woods, shooting from behind a dilapidated auto...etc. On their 'About Us' page, it begins with this statement:
As Christians we all are a part of the Souls of the Body of Christ, the one true church of Christ. Not any specific man made building or any man controlled organization. This is the belief of the Hutaree soldier, as should the belief of all followers in Christ be.
The website has a little bit of rock and roll on a webpage identified as Poker Face's Patriot Rock, and if you watch the video, the song begins with "I'm not a Democrat or Republican."  Under a sources link, as few interesting ones are WorldNetDaily, Financial Times, Asia Time, Jack Van Impe Ministries, The European Union Army, and others. A page titled Misc. Links shows The Patriot Broadcasting Network (Liberty Tree Radio), and militias in Michigan, Ohio and Idaho. There is an open forum link. The website has John 15:13 displayed at the top: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

John Brennan Connection to Death of CIA Slain Base Chapman Chief? CIA Alec Station Michael Scheuer Gloria Borger Interview

The CIA Chief of Forward Operating Base Chapman in Afghanistan's Khost Province was a woman and mother of three. She had a long career in counterterrorism, and specifically in hunting Osama bin Laden. A former CIA agent, Michael Scheuer, interview with CNN's Gloria Borger last week and spoke of a CIA agent who "arranged an operation in 1998 that would have killed or captured Osama bin Laden. That agent may have been the assassinated Base Chapman Chief. But the kicker is what Scheuer said about Obama's Deputy Security Adviser, John Brennan and how he may have been connected to the Base Chapman Chief. Another thought is former CIA, Michael Schueur's warning that an event, just like this one, may be used to "clog" the intelligence pipeline. See links to that discussion below.

Osama bin Laden passport photo

Thank you to larwyn for the Scheuer-Borger tip.

The unnamed Chief Officer was a part of the famous, embattled and now disbanded CIA  Alec Station, which in summer 2001 saw more than a few glimpses of the September 11th attacks of the same year. Michael Scheuer, the head of the CIA's bin Laden hunt group told Gloria Borger that one of their officers (unknown if that office if the Base Chapman Chief) arranged an operational hit on Osama bin Laden in 1998, but John Brennan stopped it.  Speaking of the Christmas Day bombing, Scheuer said:
...it hurts morale even more because one of the officers who got killed had arranged an operation in 1998 that would have killed or captured Osama bin Laden. And Mr. Brennan was instrumental in preventing that operation from occurring. Instead he said the Americans should trust the Saudis to take care of bin Laden.

So it's a painful-- it's a painful death, but more importantly it's a death that didn't need to occur had Mr. Clinton -- Mr. Brennan, George Tenet, and Mr. Berger had the courage to try to defend Americans.

The following details some of the hunt for bin Laden, which the CIA Base Chapman chief was apparently involved in with Alec Station - but in no way is a criticism of her, and I cannot identify her as the agent Scheuer was speaking about. Note that I only assume she was a member of Alec Station, as is reported by the New York Times. I do not know this with any certainty.

Here is a look into this officer's past - the people she worked with and the intrigue the Alec Station was engaged in:
Working from a small office near C.I.A. headquarters, the group, known inside the agency as Alec Station, became increasingly alarmed in the summer of 2001 that a major strike was coming. One former officer recalls that the woman had a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of Al Qaeda’s top leadership and was so familiar with the different permutations of the leaders’ names that she could take fragments of intelligence and build them into a mosaic of Al Qaeda’s operations
“She was one of the first people in the agency to tackle Al Qaeda in a serious way,” said the former officer, who, like some others interviewed for this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity because the victims’ identities remain classified.
Source - History Commons: While we do not know when the Chief Officer joined Alec Station, the unit was tailing Osama bin Laden in Sudan by the end of 1991. Alec Station originated in 1995 or 1996. Members of the unit were reassigned within the CIA's Counterterrorist Center. Michael Scheurer, the first head of the unit said bin Laden had been confirmed as a serious threat as early as 1997. But in1996, Alex Station was complaining that the National Security Administration (NSA) gave them only summarized transcripts of intercepted calls between al-Qaeda members. Scheuer wanted verbatim transcripts.

Scheuer later said:
“Over time, if you read enough of these conversations, you first get clued in to the fact that maybe ‘bottle of milk’ doesn’t mean ‘bottle of milk.’ And if you follow it long enough, you develop a sense of what they’re really talking about. But it’s not possible to do unless you have the verbatim transcript.”
He also charged that the summaries they received from NSA were not timely - "they came once a week or something lie that."
Alec Station’s desire for verbatim transcripts will intensify when it discovers the NSA is intercepting calls between bin Laden and his operations center in Yemen:

However, the NSA constantly rejects its requests. Scheuer will later say: “We went to Fort Meade to ask then the NSA’s deputy director for operations [Barbara McNamara] for the transcripts, and she said, ‘We are not going to share that with you.’ And that was the end.” He will add that McNamara “said that the National Security Act of 1947 gave her agency control of ‘raw’ signals intelligence, and that she would not pass such material to CIA.”
In December 1996, the CIA learns from a CIA operative "detailed" to the NSA, that the NSA has discovered an al-Qaeda communications hub in Yemen. The CIA refuses to share and threatens punishment for the CIA officer who alerted Alec Station. The officer continued to funnel info to the team. Alec Station evenutally built its own "listening post."

Scheuer continues to complain, and is upset once more, and after asking for U.S. military special operations officers, he is refused. Late in 1996, Scheurer prepares a 50-paragraph report describing in detail how Osama bin Laden sought to obtain nuclear weapons. Some of the report was developed from info obtained fromal-Qaeda defector Jamal al-Fadl.
However, Scheuer’s superiors refuse to distribute the report, saying it is alarmist. Instead, only two of the paragraphs are circulated, buried in a larger memo.
In 1997, Alec Station notifies CIA Director George Tenet that al-Qaeda intelligence from Saudi Arabia should be considered "hostile service." In the years to come, this claim is validated. When the Alec Station assessment of al-Qaeda as a serious threat was formally known, the assessment was not deemed credible by others in the the intelligence community. Michael Sheuer was said to have an "abrasive style:"
He and counterterrorism “tsar” Richard Clarke do not get along and do not work well together. Scheuer also does not get along with John O’Neill, the FBI’s most knowledgeable agent regarding bin Laden. The FBI and Alec Station rarely share information, and at one point an FBI agent is caught stuffing some of the unit’s files under his shirt to take back to O’Neill.
The Alec Unit was almost disbanded in April and May 1998:
The CIA’s bin Laden unit, first created in early 1996...is ordered disbanded. It is unclear who gave the order. The unit appears to have been the most vocal section of the US government pushing for action against bin Laden.

Apparently CIA Director George Tenet is unaware of the plans to disband the unit. He intervenes in mid-May and preserves the unit.

Michael Scheuer, the head of the unit, later will comment that by doing so, Tenet “dodged the bullet of having to explain to the American people why the [CIA] thought bin Laden was so little of a threat that it had destroyed the bin Laden unit weeks before two US embassies were demolished.” Scheuer also will comment, “the on-again, off-again signals about the unit’s future status made for confusion, distraction, and much job-hunting in the last few weeks” before the embassy attacks.
Later Scheuer says in a one-year period beginning May 1998, the CIA gave the U.S. "about ten chances to capture bin Laden or kill him...but the decision was made somewhere that "the intelligence was not good enough." Richard Clarke "strongly disagrees with Scheurers account of the events. Both Clarke and Scheuer agree that George Tenet was the only person to kill the attack operations - not the White House.

In late summer 1998, after the African embassy bombings, the CIA asks Alec Station what it needs to get bin Laden. Scheuer again asks for verbatim transcripts of intelligence interceptions, and in particular the intelligence between bin Laden, al-Qaeda, Yemen and Afghanistan, and says the code cannot be cracked without verbatim reports.
Higher officials order the NSA to comply, and they do, but only for less than 12 requests. Then the system returns to the way it was, with NSA only sharing summaries. The reason for the change back is unclear, although bin Laden stops using his satellite phone around this time
And here is a mammoth screw-up:
The CIA seems not to understand permission given by President Bill Clinton to assassinate Osama bin Laden. The instruction was contained in a memorandum of notification signed by Clinton authorizing the agency to use a group of tribal fighters to kill bin Laden. Previously, the tribal leaders had only been authorized to capture bin Laden, and this new memo marks an important shift in policy.

According to author Philip Shenon, the memo is “written in stark language” and it makes it very clear “that the president was telling the tribal leaders they could kill bin Laden.”

However, the actual memo is closely held within the CIA, and the 9/11 Commission will comment, “This intent [to have bin Laden killed] was never well communicated or understood within the agency.”
Apparently, it is never even communicated to Michael Scheuer, head of Alec Station, the CIA’s bin Laden unit. Scheuer will later express his frustration at not being allowed to try to kill bin Laden, “We always talked about how much easier it would have been to kill him.”

In May 1999 George Tenet decides against striking on bin Laden's location three times.
Mike Scheuer, head of the CIA’s Bin Laden Unit, writes to a colleague in the field, “having a chance to get [bin Laden] three times in 36 hours and foregoing the chance each time has made me a bit angry…”
There is one more opportunity to strike bin Laden in July 1999, but after that there is apparently no intelligence good enough to justify considering a strike.
In June 1999, Scheuer loses his job and is reassigned but remains inside the Alec Station:
Deputy Director of Operations Jack Downing tells Scheuer he is being fired...Downing says he will get a medal and a monetary award, but should tell his subordinates he has resigned. Scheuer refuses to lie to his officers, signs a memo saying he will not accept a monetary award, and tells Downing “where he should store the medal.”
Richard Blee takes Scheuer's position at Alec Station. Scheuer stays with the Alec Station until 2004. Relations with John O'Neill at the FBI do not improve.

Six months later on December 29, 999, NSA notifies Alec Station that they have listened in on al-Qaeda phone calls which include contact with Khalid Almihdhar, Nawaf Alhazmi and Salem Alhazmi - all three hijackers on American Airlines Flight 77 on 0-11-01. By the time the three hijack the plane, Almihdhar and Alhazmi are on the FBI's terrorist-alert list. The FBI is also notified. The information overheard reveals that the three will attend a "summit in Malaysia in January 2000."

The CIA and other "friendly" foreign intelligence agencies track Almihdhar, hoping he will lead them to bigger fish. They learn his full name and the find that he has a "mulitple entry visa to the US valid through April 2000. BUT - they DO NOT place him on a terror watch list and they fail to tell the FBI about the visa.

Although Alec Station, the CIA’s bin Laden unit, is coordinating surveillance of al-Qaeda’s Malaysia summit, it fails to draft a full report on it to alert the rest of the intelligence community.
“Despite the importance of the operation, [Alec Station chief Richard Blee] had never bothered to write up and distribute an intelligence report on it
However, Doug Miller an FBI agent assigned to Alec Station drafted is report for FBI superiors and the timing is important - between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m on January 5, 2000, the following happens (there is no, absolutely no, intimation here that "Michelle" is the Base Chapman Chief mentioned at the beginning of this article):
A CIA officer known as “Michelle” accesses Miller’s draft about an hour after he writes it. The cable is then blocked on the orders of the station’s deputy chief, Tom Wilshire, as a few hours after Miller drafts the cable Michelle attaches a message to it saying, “pls hold off on [cable] for now per [Tom Wilshire].” Miller is also told, “This is not a matter for the FBI.”
Author James Bamford will later comment: “A potential terrorist and member of al-Qaeda was heading for the US, the FBI’s jurisdiction—its turf—and he [Miller] was putting the FBI on notice so it could take action. There was no reason to kill the message.”

'Michelle" drafts a cable falsely saying that the information about Almihdhar’s visa has been shared with the FBI and there will be a discussion the next day about whether the cable should be sent.
The Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General will later call the failure to pass the information to the FBI a “significant failure”...

The 9/11 Commission will know of the incident, but will relegate it to an endnote in its final report, omitting Wilshire’s role entirely.
Around 7p.m. on January 5, 2000:
A CIA officer known only as “Michelle” sends out a cable saying the information that 9/11 hijacker Khalid Almihdhar has a US visa has been sent to the FBI “for further investigation.”

The cable, which is lengthy and summarizes information about Almihdhar and three other operatives planning an al-Qaeda summit in Malaysia, is sent to some overseas CIA stations, but not the FBI.

...[The CIA] will repeatedly tout this cable as evidence that it had actually informed the FBI of Almihdhar’s visa, or at least thought it had done so.

However, this appears not to be true, as after 9/11 the FBI will be unable to find any record of receiving such information and the CIA will be unable to find any record of having sent it.

Michelle will apparently lie about this cable to the Justice Department’s inspector general and CIA Dirctor George Tenet.
The three hijackers disappear...the story goes on an on and Alec Station is placed with the CIA's Counterterrorist Center between January and July 2000 - which is characterized as "a larger group within the CTC. It appears that Richard Blee heads that group, and that placement is seen as a promotion.

On March 5, 2000 the CIA learns from CIA Bangkok, Thailand that Alhazmi has arrived in the US with an unnamed "companion" from Thailand on January 15, 2000. It is assumed that Almihdhar is the "companion," - although the CIA disputes the identification of Almihdhar. The agency is criticized for not placing the two terrorists on a watchlist until August 2001 - and both are apparently already in the U.S.

The FBI is not informed that the men are in the U.S. although it was widely-spread through the CIA.

In February 2001: CIA Islamabad, Pakistan asks Alec Station to "touch base" with FBI agents investigating the bombing of the USS Cole. That never happens. The CIA has identification of al-Qaeda leader Khallad bin Attash was at the Malaysia summit, doesn't tell the FBI about bin Attash - and later bin Attash is later connected to the 9/11 hijackers Almihdhar and Alhazmi.

The NSA intercepts at least one call from the 9/11 hijackers in the US to an al-Qaeda communications hub in Yemen after this and does not tell the FBI.

Early April 2001 - Richard Blee meets with Northern Alliance commander Ahmed Shah Massoud in Paris. Moussad says a terrorist act, vastly biggers than the bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania - is imminent. Declassified documents later document that Massoud has "limited knowledge" about such an attack. The warnings were not taken seriously. They later say that Massoud may have been assassinated two days before 9/11 because he trying to alert the U.S.
In late May or early June, FBI agent Margaret Gillespie is detailed to the CIA to investigate the connection between the al-Qaeda Malaysia summit and the USS Cole bombing. Gillespie examines one database, but fails to identify a second database, known as Hercules.

It is unclear why she does not do so and whether, as an FBI agent, she has access to it. If she did access it, she would have a complete picture of the CIA’s knowledge of Almihdhar and Alhazmi and would know Almihdhar had a US visa and Alhazmi had traveled to the US.
By July 2001, the Alec Station is recognizing that Khallad bin Attash is tied to the summit and the bombing of the USS Cole, and possible the African embassy bombings.

Yet Khallad is still not put on a terrorist watch list. Wilshire asks that the FBI be passed this information, but the FBI will not actually be given the information until August 30, a week after it learns future 9/11 hijacker Khalid Almihdhar is in the US.
An FBI analyst assigned to the CTC is given the task of reviewing all other CIA cables about the Malaysian summit. It takes this analyst until August 21—over five weeks later—to put together that Khalid Almihdhar had a US visa and that Nawaf Alhazmi had traveled to the US. Yet other CIA agents are already well aware of these facts but are not sharing the information.

Working with immigration officials, this analyst then learns that Almihdhar entered and left the US in 2000, and entered again on July 4, 2001, and that Alhazmi appears to still be in the US.
In July 2001 the CIA investigates, but sloppily, 8 Islamist radicals reportedly learning to fly in Phoenix. The investigation goes nowhere that it should have gone.
...in 2000, two friends of the main target of the Phoenix memo were detained and deported after twice attempting to enter a US airplane cockpit in what may have been practice for the 9/11 attacks. That same year it was learned by US intelligence that one of these men had received explosives and car bombing training in Afghanistan.

Other ties between the men in the memo go undiscovered; for instance, another person targeted in the memo had trained in al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and will later be arrested with a top al-Qaeda leader.
The CIA will say they never received the memo, including Alec Station, but this is later fairly solidly refuted.

Between July and September 11, 2001 there is a furor of activity in the FBI and the CIA, none of it yielding anything that will stop the attack. Resources are lacking, as is focus and burn-out is in full-swing.

Within hours of the 9/11 attacks, the CIA’s bin Laden unit is tasked to come up with actions that can be taken immediately to strike back at al-Qaeda.

According to Michael Scheuer, the first head of Alec Station, one of the most promising ideas considered is to ask other countries to raid Islamist charity fronts and seize computers and documents.
Scheuer will later assert that the “suggested raids would have netted far more relevant data on how the [charity front-al-Qaeda link] worked than we ever had before.” However, he claims the White House rejects the idea because of concerns that it would offend Muslim popular opinion.
On September 12, 2001, Michael Scheuer returns to the "larger group" within the CIA Counterterrorism Center to act as an adviser, but is not allowed to debrief detainees.
Other CIA officers seek out his services, but these requests are blocked, apparently by James Pavitt, the Deputy Director of Operations. Scheuer comments: “The CIA knew that Through Our Enemies’ Eyes was respected by Islamists and that, as the author, I would be an effective debriefer. Mr. Pavitt, however, put burying my career above using me to elicit information to defend America.”
So, here we are today, with press conferences explaining how we failed to stop Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from attempting to blow-up Northwest Flt. 253 on Christmas Day, and within days of that terrible even, we lost seven CIA, one the bureau chief who is said to have once been a member of Alec Station. Disclaimer: there are many sides to this story.

Michael Leiter NW Flt 253: CIA sent Abdulmutallab info to Leiter's Counterterrorism Center

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was already known as "The Nigerian" and already suspected of meeting with "terrorist elements" in Yemen at the time of his failed bombing attempt of NW Flight 253. By August 2009, the CIA knew about "The Nigerian." The CIA did not know "The Nigerian's" name was Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. And they did not put the two together when the father went to the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria and met with a CIA agent in November 2009. Who was responsible for connecting the dots? From documents found online, it appears the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) is responsible for gathering and disseminating information to the No-Fly List.

Michael Leiter

The CIA forwarded the information to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). The connection was still not made. What does the NCTC do? Here are two pull-out quotes, more below:
...the Director of NCTC is responsible for providing strategic CT plans and for effectively integrating CT intelligence and operations across agency boundaries, both inside and outside the US.
...and:
The primary source for all information relating to international terrorist identities in the TSDB is the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) ...The NCTC, “serve[s] as the primary organization in the United States Government for analyzing and integrating all intelligence possessed or acquired by the United States Government pertaining to terrorism and counterterrorism,...
As we learned during the 9-11 Commission hearings, Jaime Gorlick's "Wall of Separation," specifically built to keep the intelligence community from sharing information, enabled the 9-11 bombers. How high and at what depth is today's Wall of Separation? The Wall still stands. Here is a statement from the Vice-Chairman of the 9/11 Commission, Lee Hamilton, about the Christmas Day bombing:
"We must get better at collecting these bits of information, putting them together at a central point, analyzing them and then acting," said Lee Hamilton, the vice-chair of the 9/11 Commission.

"We're sharing information better than we did prior to 9/11, but this incident surely illustrates we've got a long ways to go," Hamilton said
CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said after the meeting with the father in November, they worked with the U.S. Embassy to get Abdulmutallab's name into the "government's terrorist database:"
We also forwarded key biographical information about him to the National Counterterrorism Center. This agency, like others in our government, is reviewing all data to which it had access - not just what we ourselves may have collected - to determine if more could have been done to stop Abdulmutallab."
Yet, Abdulmutallab's name didn't make it to the No-Fly List. Clearly, someone was not paying attention. Michael E. Leiter's National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) did...what?...nothing? Leiter is the Director of NCTC and the following are a few comments from his testimony to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in September 2009:
Despite our counterterrorism (CT) progress, al-Qa‘ida and its affiliates and allies remain resilient and adaptive enemies intent on attacking US and Western interests—with al-Qa‘ida’s core in Pakistan representing the most dangerous component of the larger al-Qa‘ida network.  We assess that this core is actively engaged in operational plotting and continues recruiting, training, and transporting operatives, to include individuals from Western Europe and North America. ...
The NCTC evolved from legislation creating "a civilian-led unified joint command" for counterterrorism. Is it nothing more than another entity which decided to do nothing?
For the first time, an organization outside the Executive Office of the President was given the responsibility for government-wide coordination of planning and integration of department and agency actions involving “all elements of national power,” including “diplomatic, financial, military, intelligence, Homeland security, and law enforcement activities within and among agencies.”
Pursuant to this authority, the Director of NCTC is responsible for providing strategic CT plans and for effectively integrating CT intelligence and operations across agency boundaries, both inside and outside the US.
Our CIA and FBI works under a President, a State Department and a Homeland Security Secretary that believes there is no war on terror, believes there are no foreign enemy combatants and believes there is no terrorism. Who places a name on the "No-Fly" list, or the "selectee" list, which alerts airline officials of the need for further, and deeper, examination of the person? Is it the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), the CIA, the State Department, Homeland Security, or all of the above? Since "the government" administers the list, is the civilian NCTC involved at all? Apparently so, and apparently the NCTC is directly responsible for the list. The following is from a declassified Homeland Security document dated July 2009, page 9:
The primary source for all information relating to international terrorist identities in the TSDB is the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) ...The NCTC, “serve[s] as the primary organization in the United States Government for analyzing and integrating all intelligence possessed or acquired by the United States Government pertaining to terrorism and counterterrorism, excepting intelligence pertaining exclusively to domestic terrorists and domestic counterterrorism.”...
This information is provided to the NCTC through nominations of individuals made by federal agencies, often with the explicit intent for the record to then be exported to the TSDB [Terrorism Screening Datebase] for watch-listing.
So how many martini lunches and conferences to exotic locations were expensed by the NCTC?

President Obama referred to the attack on NW Flight 253 as an "alleged" attack. He wasn't specifically talking about the would-be-bomber - he was talking about the attack itself. It is possible to misidentify the bomber and refer to him as allegedly "Abdulmutallab," but, please, not the attack itself. He characterized the "alleged" attack as the work of an isolated extremist, after al-Qaeda in the Saudia Arabian peninsula had already taken credit for Abdulmutallab's actions - and yet he was already known as "The Nigerian," not "a Nigerian," but specifically "The Nigerian." His Director of National Counterterrorism knew Abdulmutallab's name, and so knew that he was connected to Yemen - yet refererred to him as an "isolated extremist." Knowing all this, at no time did he mention "jihad," "Islam," "Muslims,"  or radicals."

In Obama' second statement about the attack, the President said there were failures with our intelligence community in piecing the known information together, and then distributing that information. He said it was an unacceptable "systemic failure."  Abdulmutallab allegedly paid cash for his ticket and had no luggage; the CIA and the NCTC knew about him. At the simplest level, an airline accepted his cash, and checked no luggage, yet he was not tagged for a full pat down. Still yet, the President has not said the words "jihad," "radical Islam," or "Muslim."

If you are interested in additional information on Michael Leiter and the NCTC, the following are snippets from their "implementation plan:"
[Four Pillars]
1) protect and defend against terrorists;

2) attack their capacity to operate;

3) work diligently to undermine the spread of violent extremism and retard radicalization around the world; and

4) prevent terrorists from utilizing WMD. ...
On the domestic front, NCTC enables, informs and supports federal, state and local government efforts to engage with communities across our country.  Central to this effort is NCTC’s leadership of an interagency group to coordinate engagement projects and activities conducted by the FBI, DHS, State, Justice, Treasury and others.  In particular, NCTC has worked diligently through this group with its partner agencies to enhance the level of engagement between the US.
According to The NCTC, they are partners with the CIA, the FBI, the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the Department of State, The Department of the Treasury, the departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, and Agriculture, as well as the U.S. Capitol Police, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency - and "foreign partners."
The Center provides a unique environment to optimize the USG's collective knowledge and formidable capabilities to identify and counter the terrorist threat to the nation.
What happened to the "formidable capabilities" of the NCTC in the Christmas Day attack?

FBI Grabs Muslim Mafia Documents: FBI Stops Document Return to CAIR

A court order served on Muslim Mafia co-author David Gaubatz to return documents obtained during an undercover operation inside the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), back to CAIR has been halted by the FBI, who served their own warrants for the same documents.

Muslim Mafia

Audio and video files, along with thousands of pages of documents will now be turned over to the FBI, rather than given back to CAIR. According to WorldNetDaily, via Creeping Sharia, the FBI is interested in the documentation as part of their investingation into CAIR and "its Hamas terrorist links, including those involing its founding chariman and acting executor director."

Co-author P. David Gaubatz and his son Chris were involved in a lengthy investigation with Chris going deep inside the organization as an unpaid volunteer. With the publishing of the book, Muslim Mafia, Washington, D.C. Judge Kollar-Kotelly issued a restraining order on the Gaubatz' use and distribution of the materials, and ordered all documents returned to CAIR.

Joseph Farah, CEO of WorldNetDaily, first broke the story and has been helping David and Chris Gaubatz raise funds for legal fees, says he welcomes the FBI investigation but says "we will have to confer with the attorneys to determine what happens next. Which takes precedence - a federal court order or an FBI warrant." Buy the book from WND.

New York Subway Bomb Plot: Scotland Yard Najibullah Zazi Mustafa Abu al-Yazid: Brits Stop NY Subway Bomb Plot

In America, we often wonder how our emails and telephone calls are being monitored. We know they are, or they can be under the Patriot Act, and it makes us very uncomfortable, or maybe "furious" is a better word. I don't know how communications monitoring is handled in Britain, but today's news tells us that a New York subway bomb plot was stopped because a monitored, but seemingly abandoned, email address suddenly flared to life, with connections to Osama bin Laden . Scotland Yard intercepted information that led to the arrest of Najibullah Zazi. The Brits stopped an attack on New York's subway system which, if successful, is believed would have been the most lethal attack on America since 9-11.

Najibullah Zazi

Najibullah Zazi is a 24-year-old Aurora, Colorado airport shuttle bus driver. He was born in Afghanistan and is living in the U.S. legally as a permanent resident. He was arrested on September 19, 2009, along with his father, but details about how information was obtained to bring about his arrest are just being released.

The head of al-Qaeda's Afghanistan operation, Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, used a "middleman" to contact Zazi. The plot developed from that contact, with Najibullah Zazi planning to use "homemade backpack bombs." Because of the connection to al-Yazid, who is known to be close to Osama bin Laden and at one time head al-Qaeda's finance committee, Zazi is not considered to be a "lone wolf" terrorist. Al-Yazid

Najibullah Zazi is charged with "conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction."
Zazi, from Denver, Colorado, is understood to have been given instructions by a senior member of al Qaeda in Pakistan over the internet.
This report explains:
Najibullah Zazi, 24, is accused of conspiring to use home-made bombs for a large scale terror attack, possibly on a city transit system.

He was arrested after testing bomb-making materials similar to those used in the 7/7 blasts in London [52 died, many severely injured].

Zazi is believed to have received weapons and explosives training at a terror camp in Pakistan.

He was held in Denver, where he lived, a week after returning under FBI surveillance from a trip to New York.
Another part of the story is that the U.S. was really, really upset that Britain did not stop the release of the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi last August. Intelligence in both countries are friendlier now.

This plot, like numerous others stopped due to diligent and intense intelligence, will soon be just a blip on history's radar screen. I don't know what Najibullah Zazi's fate will be. We know it probable that others are plotting to take down the New York subway system this minute, but it won't be Najibullah Zazi. Fortunately, I haven't heard media claims that Zazi is a victim of PTSD (post-traumatic-stress syndrome) and just "snapped." Media elites live and work in New York City, and surely some in those NY newsrooms take the subway. Take down the subways, and even a limo can't get through. Thanks to master sculptor and super news snoop, David Lemon.

Fort Hood Killer Obama Homeland Security policy adviser: Nidal Malik Hasan Obama adviser Video

Nidal Hasan, the accused murderer of thirteen at Fort Hood, served as an adviser on homeland security policy. See video below.

Nidal Hasan on morning of shootings

WorldNetDaily links to a document published by the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University. Hasan's name appears on page 29 of a report titled "Thinking Anew - Security Priorities for the Next Administration...Presidential Transition Task Force," April 2009-January 2009.

It is confirmed that the Nidal Hasan in listed in the document is the same Hasan who murdered and allegedly wounded fellow soldiers at Fort Hood. Hasan apparently applied to sit on the task force through the University's website, and was present at several meetings. Hasan served as a member of the Uniformed Service University School of Medicine.

This task force was tasked with developing homeland security policy
The HSPI [Homeland Security Policy Institute] fashions itself a “think and do tank” and claims its mission as that of building “bridges between theory and practice to advance homeland security through an interdisciplinary approach.” I wonder if one of those bridges leads to “understanding” the mindset of terrorists like Hasan, a participant in George Washington University’s “think and do” mission?
Download the pdf report here

See a very interesting video below of Nidal Hasan listening to an Israeli speaker at an event focused on International Terrorism and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Hasan's uncle lives in Ramallah, West Bank in Palestine.

Luqman Ameen Abdullah is Christopher Thomas: Ummah Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah Killed in FBI Shootout

Luqman Ameen Abdullah was killed in an FBI raid after attempts to complete an arrest warrant.  A shootout between imam Abdullah, some of his followers and the FBI resulted in the death. Update 11-1-09 below.

Christopher Thomas - Luqman Ameen Abdullah

The shooting occured at a warehouse in Dearborn, MI. An FBI spokesperson said Abdullah refused to surrender and fired a weapon at the federal agents. A 2-year investigation named 11 people in a criminal complaint.Abdullah's oldest son Mujahid Carswell (30) was arrested by The Royal Canadian Mounted Police today. Two men are still sought: Yassir ali Khan (30) and Mohammad Philistine of Ontario.

Thomas (53) is an American born convert to Islam. The original mosque was located at 4118 Joy Road in Detroit. In January 2009, the members were evicted for non-payment of property taxes by the Detroit Police.

The mosque members are reportedly American born blacks. Abdullah was the prayer leader of a small and violence-oriented mosque following Islamic Ummah. As with all Islamic organizations, Ummah's mission is to set up an Islamic caliphate in the U.S., and throughout the world governed by Sharia Law.
Abdullah told followers that it was their "duty to oppose the FBI and the government and it does not matter if they die" and to "simply shoot a cop in the head" if they wanted the officer's bulletproof vest, Leon wrote.

The affidavit also said bombs, guns and even the recipe for TNT were among Abdullah's regular topics with his allies. Group members and former members said they were "willing to do anything Abdullah instructs and/or preaches, even including criminal conduct and acts of violence," the FBI agent wrote.

According to the criminal complaint, other defendants are:

Franklin D. Roosevelt Williams also known as Mohammad Abdul Bassir

Gregory Stone also known as Muhammad Abdul Salaam, Gun Man and Norman Shields

Dewayne Edwards Davis also known as Abdul Saboor

Mujahid Abdullah also known as Mujahid Carswell (Luqman Abdullah's oldest son)

Detric Lamont Driver also known as Abdullah Beard

Mohammad Philistine also known as Mohammad Al-Sahli

Yassir Ali Khan

Adam Hussain Ibraheem

Garry Lavern Porter also known as Mujahid

Ali Abdul Raquib

As expected, CAIR's (Council on American-Islamic Relations) executive director Dawud Walid claims that Abdullah opened the mosque to the homeless, and fed the indigent at a soup kitchen - that would happen right after the prayers to Allah to destroy democracy and hand the country to Islam.

Sources said to be close to Luqman Ameen Abdullah participated in the two-year investigation, gathering recorded conversations.
Abdullah received at least 20 percent of any profit and claimed the "Prophet Muhammad said that it is okay to participate in theft; as long as that person prays, they are in a good state," Leone wrote in the affidavit.
This report opens with this ominous statement:
From Washington to the personal homes of federal agents, the suspects involved in Wednesday's raids in metro Detroit allegedly targeted a wide range of places and people.
All radical Islamicists want to duplicate or do more than the terror that happened on September 11, 2001 - unless they can't, and then the goal is, whatever terror can be achieved. If terror cannot be wrought, then the plan is to steal from others and live off of the booty.  From the 43-page indictment:
• In November 2008, Abdullah talked with an undercover agent about a doctor captured in Afghanistan who had been wanted by the FBI Abdullah then talked about jihad and going after what he called "super agents." "Trail them, follow them, know where they house is at. ... Deal with them, deal with them the way, the way they supposed to be dealt with. ... It's not that complicated, man. ...You got hundreds of agents right down there off of, off of Michigan" Avenue. The reference was to the FBI's Detroit office.

• Abdullah then talked about jihad and going after what he called "super agents." "Trail them, follow them, know where they house is at. ... Deal with them, deal with them the way, the way they supposed to be dealt with. ... It's not that complicated, man. ...You got hundreds of agents right down there off of, off of Michigan" Avenue. The reference was to the FBI's Detroit office.

• While in Atlanta, Abdullah said of their police officers: "Their department will have a bad day when they deal with me."

• "Abdullah informed" an undercover agent "that a member of his community in Detroit had shot police officers."

• He referred to Washington as a possible target.
There are numerous discussions about killing police in the complaint. Was this all talk and no action - other than firing on a federal officer? Was Abdullah a talker and not a doer? I don't know. Debbie Schlussel has an interesting take on this, and talks about the greater threat of the "non-Black Arab Muslims... in the area:
Sadly, this has been a repeated pattern throughout the country.  The FBI uses informants to recruit Black (and other) Muslim converts to discuss planning a terrorist attack because they’re too lazy and too politically correct to go after the far more serious threat of Muslim Arabs who are already engaging in this activity, without prompting or entrapment from an outside FBI impetus.
Update 11-01-09:
This report says that "hundreds" turned for Luqman Ameen Abdullahs funeral in Detroit yesterday.
...hushed prayers Saturday at the funeral for a slain Detroit mosque leader while authorities across the border in Canada made the final two arrests in a criminal case that is stirring some anger in the Muslim community.
Mourners spoke of him as a generous man and a "good brother." According to the report, "no one metioned the FBI's claim that he had a violent, anti-government ideology." Abdullah told his followers to "simply shoot a cop in the head." He tried and he failed. And he died. Will the day ever come in a community like this,  when Muslims can say " I thought he was a good man. I didn't know about this background, and now that I know, I condemn it," rather than ignoring that one of theirs was a menace to the country?

Everyone named in the arrest warrant are now in custody, including Abdullah's son, Carswell.

FBI Fox News Talk Radio: FBI Marie in Los Angeles: Rush Limbaugh Caller FBI Los Angeles

I don't often hear Rush Limbaugh completely surprised - beyond his wildest dreams. Marie in Los Angeles rendered Rush stunned. Prediction: The Los Angeles FBI office received a phone call from Rham Emanuel yesterday after Marie's call aired. Everyone in the office has been demoted, pay cut and a White House FBI Czar is flying to LA today to take over the operation. Can Obama pull-off a prime time press conference denouncing Marie in Los Angeles? Stay tuned.

Rush Limbaugh

 Marie said she called Congress:
MARIE: Who do you talk to when you can't trust the top people? You know, I called the FBI, and you know what they told me?
RUSH:  No.

CALLER:  They said, "Watch Fox cable and listen to talk radio," and then I called another time --

RUSH:  Wait a minute! Wait a minute. Wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.  Whoa, whoa, whoa.  Back up.  You called the FBI?

CALLER:  Well, I wanted to find out what was going on with ACORN, the 14 states that they had arrested these people.

RUSH:  What FBI office did you call?

CALLER:  Los Angeles.

RUSH:  And they told you to listen to Fox News and talk radio?

CALLER:  Talk radio.

RUSH:  To find out what was going on?

CALLER:  Yes.  And the next time I called you know what they said?

RUSH:  No.

CALLER:  "Listen to talk radio and watch Glenn Beck."  And they said, "We all watch Glenn Beck."

RUSH:  That's what they told you at the FBI?

CALLER:  Exactly.  And so when I wanted to find out what was going on they said, "Call the Justice Department."  Well if you can't trust the Justice Department, who do you talk to?  Who do you talk to? You can't trust the top. I called John Boehner, because he's the one you can really talk to. I said, "You've got to tell them that Obama is going after the Internet and talk radio.  They've gotta stop it."

RUSH:  And what did he say?

CALLER:  Well, I talked to the office. They said, "Yeah, we know what's going on," and when I called the FBI they said, "We know what's going on, but we can't do anything because the Secret Service will say they're in charge."  This is what's going on right now.

RUSH:  You know what, folks?  I feel like I'm in that balloon flying over Colorado.

Louis Manzo, Ronald Manzo are NJ Politicians Arrested in FBI Sting

Louis Manzo and Ronald Manzo are NJ politicians arrested this week in an FBI sting know as Operation Bid Rig III. The two brothers, Lou, a former mayoral candidate and Ronald, Lou's brother and political adviser are alleged to have taken money from an FBI cooperating witness.

Louis Manzo

Lou Manzo, 54, is a New Jersey Democrat politician who has tried five times to become mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey. He is a former Assemblyman and Hudson County Freeholder. He was indicted, along with his brother Ronald Manzo, for taking money for providing help with real estate development projects proposed by an FBI cooperating witness..."just in case he was elected mayor."

Ronald Manzo, 65, is alleged to have introduced Secacus mayor Dennis Elwell to an FBI cooperating witness, thought to be Solomon Dwek. Allegedly, Ron Manzo received $5,000 from the "cooperating witness." Both Louis and Ronald are formally charged with "conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right." The two accepted a combined $27,500 in three cash payments from the FBI cooperating witness.

According to the cooperating witness, he was told that giving money to Louis Manzo was "insurance" to secure Manzo's endeavors on behalf of the cooperating witness, in the event Manzo became mayor, which he did not. Michael Manzo was also charged in Operation Bid Rig III but he is not related to Lou and Ron. Photo courtesy of Reena Rose Sibayan/The Jersey Journal

Anthony Suarez is Ridgefield NJ Mayor Arrested

Anthony Suarez is the Ridgefield, NJ mayor arrested in an FBI sting.

Anthony Ridgefield
Anthony Suarez, 42, a Democrat, is arrested and charged with "conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right." Suarez is alleged to have accepted money from a "co-operating witness," thought to be Solomon Dwek, in exchange for favors with a real estate deal. Mayor Suarez is an attorney at Fort Lee law firm. His first term as mayor of Ridgefield began in 2003. In 2007 he was re-elected to a second four-year term. He is out of jail on a $100,000.00 unsecured bond. The Federal complaint says that Anthony r. Suarez and Vincent Tabbachino:
...did knowingly and willfully conspire to obstruct, delay, and affect interstate commerce by extortion under color of official right, by accepting and agreeing to accept corrupt payments that were paid and to be paid by another, with that person’s consent, in exchange for defendant ANTHONY R. SUAREZ’s future official assistance in Ridgefield Government matters.
NorthJersey.com says that Suarez was "known and feared - for suing those who leveled false accusation against him on web sites and in newspapers. "But his eagerness to go to court may have led to his political downfall, critics said...." Read more about a previous lawsuit with a Ridgefield resident, Michael Mecca.
Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled council declined to pay Suarez’s legal fees after Mecca sued the mayor for filing a frivolous lawsuit. Suarez’s defamation lawsuit against Mecca for postings on a Web forum in 2005 had been dismissed.
There appears to be two counts to the charge. Count One involves both Suarez and Tabbachino. The men met the "cooperating witness" at a Fairview, NJ restaurant. Suarez told the "CW" of two properties he might be interested in, in Ridgefield, saying there might be another party interested in one of them.
[On about May 18, 2009] Defendant Tabbachino indicated that “I was just talking to Anthony. He says he’ll try to help us whatever ways we need,” prompting defendant Suarez to add “I, I’d really like to develop the area.” The CW then informed defendant Suarez that “I don’t wanna have, uh, uh, an incident where I go ahead, I tie up a property. I put up two, three million dollars hard, and then they [u/i] say I need a zone change or whatever it is, and they put me on the bottom of the pile, and it takes me three years, and then they jerk me around.” Defendant Suarez assured the CW that “[w]e don’t have that kind of issue because we don’t have wait lists like that.” The CW responded, in referring to another situation in which the CW purportedly attempted to develop a property, “there were no wait lists either in Orange . . . They weren’t busy. They just kept on, eh, adjourning it, adjourning it. . . They wanted to jerk me around. They didn’t like me.” The CW then explained to defendant Suarez that “I just wanna make sure I got someone in there that, you know, can help me expedite, uh, you, know, with my approvals. That’s all. And, you know, I wanna make sure I got a friend that will support my stuff.” Defendant Tabbachino interjected, as he laughed, “[y]ouve got a friend,” and added, in an apparent reference to other Ridgefield officials, “[a]nd now we’ve got to, uh, get the rest of the friends in a circle and form the wagons up.” Defendant Suarez advised the CW that the “best thing” for the CW to do at this juncture would be to produce “some sort of preliminary or schematic.” The CW agreed to do so, but added that “I don’t wanna go crazy unless I know that, you know, people will–-are receptive to me,” prompting defendant Suarez to respond “[r]ight.” Defendant Tabbachino inquired “[w]hat is the next step that we have to do here?” The CW reiterated that “I’ll do a schematic with a colored rendering. We’ll give to the, you know, Mayor, and he’ll do, you know, he’ll show it to his people.” Defendant Suarez agreed to this proposal and added that “I’ll meet with the . . . planners and attorneys.” Subsequently, during the May 18, 2009 meeting, the CW inquired of defendant Tabbachino, “[n]ow, uh, did, you know, you told the Mayor how we gonna do business now?” Defendant Tabbachino responded, in defendant Suarez’s presence, “[y]eah. He understands everything. I told him I would take care of whatever had to be done. And I told him that we’d help him out with his, his campaign.” The CW responded, “[y]eah, do whatever you want. Just don’t put my name on anything,” at which time defendant Suarez smiled and nodded in the affirmative. The CW added that “I don’t need conflicts. I don’t need, you know, I like staying under the radar. Low key.” Defendant Tabbachino then informed the CW that “I said whatever way [defendant Suarez] wants it, that’s the way I’ll be glad to do it.” Defendant Tabbachino then joked, as he laughed, “I’ll give him the three dollars for popcorn to go to a movie.” As defendant Suarez began speaking on his cell phone, defendant Tabbachino turned to the CW and informed the CW that “[s]o what I did was I, I brought a check with me in case [u/i]. I brought a check with me.” The CW explained to defendant Tabbachino that “well, I have ten thousand cash.” The CW asked defendant Tabbachino “I’ll give him–-ask him what he wants. I’ll give it to you after the meeting as long as he says, you know, whatever, you work it out with him.” Defendant Tabbachino told the CW “[a]lright. No sweat. Whatever way he wants to do it,” prompting the CW to add that the CW would provide the “ten now, and then we’ll do another ten later.” The CW then told defendant Tabbachino that “I got it in [an] envelope there so nobody knows nothing.” Defendant Tabbachino then indicated that he might provide a check to defendant Suarez to cover a portion of the $10,000 and provide the remaining total in cash, prompting the CW to reply “[d]o whatever he wants. I don’t care,” and then added “everyone has their own likings, so–-as long as my name is not on the darn thing.” Defendant Tabbachino assured the CW, “[n]o, no. That’s why I have–-brought my own, my check.” The CW further informed defendant Tabbachino “[a]s long as he wants it. He doesn’t want it, that’s also fine.” A short time later, after defendant Suarez had completed his cell phone call, the CW asked defendant Tabbachino “you wanna go do some business? What do you wanna do?” Defendant Tabbachino replied “[y]eah, let’s go take care of that, we’ll be in business.” The CW inquired “[s]o, I’ll do, I guess, uh, I’ll give you, uh, how do you want me to do this?” Defendant Tabbachino stated “[g]ive it to me and I’ll sit in the car with–- and we’ll check the weather,” prompting defendant Suarez to laugh. The CW then turned to defendant Suarez and stated “so, uh, Mayor, wh–-, I’ll give him, uh, [u/i]. I told Vinny [u/i] ten thousand.” Defendant Suarez replied “[t]hat’s really nice of you. I appreciate that. You don’t have to,” prompting the CW to reiterate that the CW had “ten thousand cash.” Defendant Suarez then informed the CW that “[j]ust, just so you know, it goes ina, it’s like a, an account where it doesn’t have to go to ELEC,” a reference to the governmental body to which public officials and candidates must report any campaign contributions. The CW told defendant Suarez that “I don’t care where it goes. Just don’t put anything in my name,” prompting defendant Suarez to assure the CW that he would not do so. The CW then added “just make sure you expedite my stuff, my applic–-, you know, if I have zoning, just make sure you have my back covered for me. That’s all I ask.” Defendant Suarez replied “that has nothing to do with, you know,” to which the CW stated “[c]all it what you want.” Defendant Suarez added that he “appreciate[d]” what the CW was doing for him. The CW stated “I’ll do it through Uncle Vinny [Tabbachino],” prompting defendant Suarez to state “it’s not like a mixed thing, but you know, whatever . . . they’re separate things.” Upon hearing this, the CW remarked “[o]kay, no problem. I hear you. If you don’t want it, I won’t give it to you. I don’t want . . ,” at which point defendant Suarez laughed and...
There's much more in the same vein in Count 1. Count 2 involves Tabbachino and here's where we hear about the designer-knock-off handbag business:
On or about February 4, 2009, defendant Tabbachino and the CW met at a restaurant in Guttenburg with another individual who later departed the meeting. Thereafter, defendant Tabbachino agreed to launder $50,000 in illicit proceeds for the CW. In particular, defendant Tabbachino was advised by the CW that the CW had a bank check for $50,000 that represented “profits” from the CW’s “label swapping” [meaning counterfeit] “handbag business.” Defendant Tabbachino directed the CW to make the check payable to “Tabbachino Associates” to make the check appear to be a “business check.” Defendant Tabbachino then agreed to“deposit” the check, and to give the CW “back 45" [implying that defendant Tabbachino would retain $5,000 as his laundering fee, and return $45,000 to the CW].
