Elizabeth Edwards on Rielle Hunter That Other Woman (Video)

Elizabeth Edwards has a new chapter in the newly released paperback of her book Resilience. Talking with Matt Lauer on the Today Show, she talked of the heartbreak of realizing that she could no longer be John Edwards' wife, and she wants her children to love their father, because he may need to be there for him if her cancer takes a bad turn.

"

I have great empathy for Elizabeth Edwards: empathy that she married the guy in the first place, then that she stayed with him for 33 years, and that she is battling cancer and has had that battle for a number of years now.

Having said that, it will be a better day when scorned women can talk about their philandering husbands without talking about "that other woman." It's useless. Only the husband is accountable to his wife. Only the husband is responsible to and accountable for their children. Only the husband is bound by the sacred ties of marriage.

And having said that, she really said very little of Rielle Hunter, "that woman." And she says, "I am not just a cuckolded wife.

John Edwards Rielle Hunter Engaged? Did John Edwards Strike Wife Elizabeth?

John Edwards and Rielle Hunter are engaged, according to The National Enquirer, and the separation from his wife did not come peacefully. The Enquirer is reporting that he hit struck Elizabeth and that she may file domestic violence charges against him. See a 6-30-10 update and video from Elizabeth's Today Show interview with Matt Lauer here.

John Edwards and Rielle Hunter Engaged?

The former Senator, and Vice-Presidential candidate allegedly popped the question to his mistress, just before announcing that Hunter's daughter was his biological child. Hunter and Edwards are said to be buying a $3.5 million dollar beachfront property.

Six days after making the public announcement, Elizabeth Edwards, his cancer-stricken wife of 32 years and mother of his four children, said they were legally separated and will be divorced at the end of the required one year separation period.
The Enquirer, which has been spot-on with their reporting of Edwards and Hunter, says Elizabeth told friends that Edwards beat her.

John lost his temper big-time," revealed a close friend of Elizabeth.

"She has the divorce papers drawn up, but she can amend them to charge John with domestic violence.

"She's holding that over his head right now - and he's scared. Elizabeth is in control."
The Enquirer says the "friend" relaying the information about the "fight," "passed a lie detector test." There are also stories that Elizabeth, 60, has "slapped" her randy husband in the past.
But the fighting escalated - and the ugly incident that "happened around the Christmas holidays turned out to be a violent, marriage-ending fight," said another source.
Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2004. Hunter went to work for Edwards in 2006 as his videographer. In March 2007, John and Elizabeth announced that her breast cancer had returned in the form of inoperable, incurable, but treatable lung cancer. By October 2007, The National Enquirer was hot on the trail of the Edwards and Hunter affair, and were reporting Hunter was pregnant. Their daughter, Quinn was born on February 28th, 2008.

John and Elizabeth Edwards

Just after Christmas, the Edwards "fight" occurred. He left their home, went to a lake resort area, hung out in a bar, drank until he was blatto and hit on several women. This is when the news of the legal separation of John and Elizabeth broke. John denied that Rielle's child was his until January 21, 2010. He reportedly proposed to Rielle and then told then made his statement claiming daughter Quinn as his child.

Edwards is 56 and Hunter is 45. This according to The Enquirer's "close source:"
Since they've gotten involved, she's followed every order he gave her, going on a cross-country cover-up, hiding away during her pregnancy and after giving birth for the sake of his presidential aspirations.

"Rielle never uttered a peep about their affair publicly, and remained loyal to John. John felt she deserved to know that he wanted to raise their child together, and wanted Rielle in his life as his partner.

"John has said that when his divorce is final, he'll buy her a diamond ring. But in the meantime, he's getting them a house."
God help all the children in this sordid tale.

Judge Demands Andrew Young Turnover John Edwards Rielle Hunter Stex Tape

Andrew Young, the former aid to Senator John Edwards, was on Hannity this week, saying the FBI had a copy of the John Edwards - Rielle Hunter sex tape and he had one in his possession. Now it appears a Superior Court Judge is demanding that Young turnover his copy of the tape and is threatening jail time for Young if he fails to comply, which he has already done at least once.

Hunter has a temporary restraining order against Young. She is also suing him for "invasion of privacy."

The tape, Young says, shows Edwards in a sexual encounter with a pregnant woman that Young believes to be Hunter. Young’s attorneys had argued that the tape Hunter was seeking appeared to be different from the one he has.

Young told reporters after the court hearing that he and his wife, Cheri, were happy to comply and supply the items. He has previously said that he kept the tape as security and proof of his story while declining large financial offers for the video.

“There’s a reason nobody’s ever seen the tape,” Young said outside the courthouse. He also said in his affidavit that he would turn over campaign videos and photographs shot by Hunter.

Rielle Hunter John Edwards Sex Tape: Rielle Hunter Restraining Order on Sex Tape

Rielle Hunter, the mistress of former Senator John Edwards, and the mother of Edwards' two year old daughter, secured a restraining order against former Edwards' aid, Andrew Young, who says he has a sex tape of Edwards and Hunter.

Hunter admits there was a video:

According to an affidavit filed yesterday in North Carolina Superior Court, Hunter reported that she was having an "intimate relationship" with Edwards in 2006, and that the video was made around September of that year (a copy of Hunter's affidavit can be found below).

In December 2006, Hunter recalled, she decided to destroy the video. "Therefore I opened up the plastic casing of the miniDV cassette and pulled out the tape contained therein. However, because I was concerned that persons seeking information about my activities were or could be searching my trash, I decided to instead store the remains of the miniDV tape in a hatbox in which I stored other important personal items in order to maintain possession and control over the Video."
The video ended up in the hands of trusted aid, Andrew Young.
...Hunter asked him to retrieve her passport, which was stored in the hatbox.
Andrew Young apparently has said the video was made while Hunter was pregnant.

Hunter wants the sex tape back.

John Edwards Elizabeth Edwards Separated: John Edwards Admits Fathering Rielle's Baby

John and Elizabeth Edwards are reportedly separated, and John has admitted fathering Rielle Hunter's now two-year-old daughter, Quinn. Update 1-27-10 see below: Elizabeth Edwards has confirmed that she and her husband John Edwards are legally separated.

The former North Carolina senator, former presidential and vice presidential candidate, John Edwards, has admitted that he is the father of Rielle Hunters daughter. The man has lied about his own daughter for almost two years, and anonymous family members say he and Elizabeth are separated.

Just after Christmas 2009, rumors were rampant that Elizabeth booted John out of the house and told him she was filing divorce papers. He allegedly went to their vacation home on Figure Eight Island, NC, and hit on women in bars in the area. At least one women was willing to speak openly about it.

Elizabeth Edwards, a breast cancer survivor, announced that the cancer returned while Edwards was running for the Democrat nomination for president in 2007. John and Rielle were already an item at that time. The Edwards have three children together, the youngest of which is about 10 years old. Their first son died in an auto accident in 1996.

Update: 1-27-10:
People Magazine says Elizabeth Edwards has moved out of the couples 28,200 sq. ft. home. John Edwards, just like slimebag Tiger Woods, the woman moves to a home where absolutely nothing is familiar to the children. What's up with that? Of course, perhaps it was her choice - no longer able to ignore the stench.

Elizabeth Edwards' spokesperson has confirmed that the Edwards are legally separated in the state of North Carolina. According to NC law, the couple can divorce after a legal separation of one year. They were married in 1977. Financial and child custody arrangements are not known.

According to Mrs. Edwards' sister, Nancy Anania, Elizabeth said:
I've had it. I can't do this. I want my life back.
Here's more:
"Elizabeth was read portions of Young's book proposal, and she flipped out," a source told the Enquirer. "What really pushed her over the edge is Young's allegation that John had other affairs with women on the campaign trail. Elizabeth basically told John that if she found out that was true, she'd have to divorce him because then he'd be a 'serial cheater.'"

The Enquirer has another source that says John Edwards is denying the allegations, telling his wife, "Young's book is a pack of lies."

The paper reports that Elizabeth Edwards' divorce threats include taking half of their joint $53 million worth and going public with political secrets in open divorce court.

"Elizabeth knows every dirty little secret in her husband's political past. She's been his confidant for years, and she's always kept quiet. But now she's prepared to reveal all his secrets in open court," a source told the Enquirer.

John Edwards Most UnPopular Person Ever!

Former Senator John Edwards, and full-time philanderer, John Edwards is the most unpopular figure anywhere...anytime...ever polled.

According to Public Policy Polling, Edwards is the most unpopular person they have polled - EVAAAAH!

He's still seen positively by 25% of Democrats but only 9% of independents and 3% of Republicans. Interestingly despite his new image as a philanderer men have a more unfavorable opinion of him (75%) than women (68%).
This Huffington Post piece says obviously Edwards would be unpopular - after all, while running for US Vice-President, he fathered a child with a woman not his wife, and that wife, Elizabeth, was battling terminal cancer.

Apparently, (and allegedly) Mrs. Edwards booted Johnny's rear out of the house again, just after Christmas 2009. The National Enquirer, always on John's tail, talked to "Stephanie," a bartender on Figure Eight Island, N.C. Steph said Edwards was in her bar for four straight nights - tried to get her to go to his home with him, and told her he was soon to be divorced.
And yet, to be historically unpopular is a real feat, considering all the loathed politicians. The Huffington Post asked PPP's pollster Tom Jensen to contrast Edwards's plight with those of others he's followed. Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill) was the record holder before Edwards and "Jim Bunning (R) in Kentucky was in that territory as well," he replied.

John Edwards Andrew Young: Andrew Youngs John Edwards Book The Politician

Andrew Young, the aide to presidential-wannabe John Edwards, has a book out soon, The Politician, about his boss and former U.S. Senator.

Andrew Young - John Edwards The Politician

The National Enquirer obliterated any hope of The Breck Boy's political future with a report that Edwards had a mistress, Rielle Hunter, - had her for awhile...and the duo had an infant child, all while Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, fought a recurrence of breast cancer, which had moved to her lung.

Andrew Young fell on the sword at the time, and claimed that Hunter's baby was his. Young's wife was none-too-happy. There was no money in it for Rielle and her baby daughter with Young thought to be the father. From the publisher's remarks:
While Young began a life on the run, hiding from the press with his family and alleged mistress, John Edwards continued to pursue the presidency and then the Vice Presidency in the future Obama administration.
Young recanted and his book: The Politician: An Insider's Account of John Edwards' Pursuit for the Presidency and the Scandal that Brought Him Down is due out in February 2010.

Andrew Young was said to be Edwards' "closest aide and most trusted friend:"
Like a non-fiction version of All the King's Men, The Politician offers a truly disturbing, even shocking perspective on the risks taken and tactics employed by a man determined to rule the most powerful nation on earth.
In the shakedown after John Edwards' crash back to earth, we have watched Elizabeth Edwards try to cope with an uncurable cancer, and rumors that Rielle Hunter expected to be Mrs. John Edwards as soon as Elizabeth was out of the picture. More currently, reports are that Rielle and her daughter have moved near the Edwards' home in North Carolina, with the 46,550 a month rent paid by John Edwards.
After a secret DNA test proved John Edwards is the father of Rielle Hunter’s baby, the two of them moved in just down the street into a $1 million home quaintly called “Marsh Grass”.
But then there is this report dated December 9, 2009:

John Edwards reportedly refused to let former mistress Rielle Hunter move into a house he bought for her because he was enraged by her demands for money.
According to the National Enquirer, Edwards has been secretly negotiating a child support agreement with Hunter, but discussions have turned sour.
"John thought he had sweetened the deal by getting Rielle a house, but she didn't think what he'd offered to pay in regular support for their daughter was fair," an insider disclosed.
"John was so angry that he wouldn't let Rielle move into the house, even with a moving van full of her belongings en route.
Michael Wolff, the author of The Man who Owns the News, Rupert Murdoch, and a Vanity Fair columnist says of The Politician:
This isn't just politics, it's literature. It's the great American novel, the kind that isn't written anymore."
With The Politician, will Liberals finally have a best-seller on their hands? Okay, I know Senator Ed Kennedy's True Compass is No. 5 on the NYT list, but you and I know that really doesn't count.

Elizabeth Edwards is Cherubim? Elizabeth Edwards Blogs About Rielle Hunter?

Is Elizabeth Edwards blogging about her husband and his admitted mistress under the Internet I.D. "cherubim? Someone thinks so. That "someone" is said to be a "source close" to Mrs. Edwards.

Elizabeth Edwards

Some friend! This "friend" claims that Elizabeth used "cherubim" as a password, and that, along with the blogger ripping Hunter and and John Edwards' former political aide, Andrew Young, plus knowing that the Edwards placed a cherubim on their son's grave stone, concludes that Elizabeth is "cherubim." Right there is a very good reason to never give away your password.
Word is Elizabeth vehemently opposed the plan, now in place, for Hunter and daughter Quinn to move from New Jersey to Wilmington, N.C., where the Edwardses have a beach house.
For months now, Elizabeth, who is said to be talking to a divorce lawyer, also has been sniping at Hunter - painting her as a blackmailing gold digger - in blog comments where she uses the pseudonym "Cherubim," according to a source who knows Elizabeth.
Though "Cherubim" has recently described herself as an African-American woman, the source insists, "It's Elizabeth. She's used 'cherubim' as a password. Look at the gravestone of their son Wade: It's an angel holding a boy."
"Cherubim" has also heaped scorn on estranged Edwards aide Andrew Young, who is working on a book in which he's due to reveal that Edwards and wealthy supporters paid him to claim that he fathered Quinn.
In August 2009, the National Enquirer reported that a DNA test proved that Edwards was the father of Hunter's baby girl. Speculations were that Edwards would admit his paternity, but I don't believe that has officially happened. After the fact - knowing that you will probably die sooner, rather than later, of cancer and leave your beloved children behind to possibly be mothered by your despicable spouse's mistress and your children's step-sister, in your own neighborhood - I don't think I would be speaking about the mistress. Elizabeth still believes she married a "good man."

Rielle Hunter was not responsible for Elizabeth Edwards, and when a person lacks character, and has no responsibility, they will do most anything. John Edwards was and is responsible to his wife. I can't imagine what life must be like in the mammoth 28,200 square foot home where the Edwards live. I wish peace of mind for Mrs. Edwards for her future and the future of her children.

Rielle Hunter deserves John Edwards.

O'Reilly Geraldo Edwards: Disingenuous Grandstanders

Geraldo was on O'Reilly tonight and as usual, when Geraldo talks, and you just try to ignore him, he says something really stupid that makes your head snap-to. The conversation was about John Edwards. Here's one more example of the disingenuous grandstander, Geraldo Rivera:

Geraldo Rivera
The discussion started with John Edwards and his mistress and his wife, and whether or not his wife, Elizabeth, knew about Rielle Hunter, his mistress - not only if she knew but when she knew. From there they discussed one of Edwards' campaign workers, Andrew Young, who having sharpened his stupidity in the company of John Edwards, stepped up and fell on "it," when the affair and the baby were made public.

Young said Hunter's child was his. Time passed, book offers flooded in and Andrew Young decided the baby wasn't his after all. That made his wife very happy. Young's memory was refreshing itself, and guess what? He remembered that John Edwards made a sex tape, and he remembered that it was stashed away in his own house or office, and he knew exactly where that tape was stored.

The discussion moved to descriptions of what a miserable sack of something John Edwards is and about the charges he may be facing. Geraldo said something very close to this (paraphrased):
Bill, if this had not gotten out and Edwards had been the Democrat candidate, and if Edwards had won the presidency and moved himself into the Oval Office, what Bill, would we have done if China or someone got hold of that tape...
I think Geraldo might have shuddered at the monstrous thought of a U.S. president being blackmailed. Righteous anger dominated the conversation. I remember that feeling. Blackmail was my real concern about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. But no one in Washington D.C., on either side of the aisle, seemed concerned about it. I'm not sure about those outside the U.S., but silly girl - of course Monica wasn't blackmailing our President. Geraldo "hit the motherlode" with the Lewinsky-Clinton affair. The New York Observer call him the Master of MonicaGate. Remember when Geraldo suggested 9-11-01 may have never happened had CIA and FBI not been sidetracked by MonicaGate?
O’Reilly told Rivera "there’s a residual anger" against him from FNC viewers over his defense of Bill Clinton. Rivera defended his defense: "It was a huge national distraction, going after a guy who lied about getting oral sex from a woman he wasn’t married to and I think I know a million guys who get sex from a woman they weren’t married to and to impeach the President over that just didn’t see appropriate."
Yes, certainly no big deal to Geraldo when his chum, President Bill Clinton kept Yasser Arafat cooling his heels in the White House Rose Garden until he finished with Monica, or the other way around. Later, after we knew all we would know about MonicaGate, thanks to Ken Starr, Geraldo told FOX News' Shep Smith that he never did get an interview with Bill:
Smith noted: "You were out there for him." Rivera agreed: "I really was. I think if there were one journalist -- you know, and I understand your viewers' wrath if there's one journalist who really helped save Bill Clinton's behind, it was me. I don't regret it. I really, when push comes to shove, he was a liar, a perjurer, but he was basically an adulterer. I think that's, he had a character flaw. He may still. But that's basically what it was about. Had he been guilty of peddling nuclear secrets or doing something more blatant, something more profoundly affecting the well being of the republic, I would have been on the same side as the majority of my colleagues in the fourth estate.
When Clinton was out in 2000 and Bush was in, Geraldo had ideas about how things should have gone:
Geraldo Rivera after humming the theme from Rocky over footage of Clinton’s pre-speech hallway walk at the Democratic convention, August 21, 2000 Rivera Live on CNBC: "You’re going to miss that guy. Don’t tell me you’re not gonna miss that guy. This is a master. He may be a rogue, but he is an artful and pleasant rogue and done a hell of a job as President. I’m gonna miss the guy...He should’ve been the vice presidential candidate."
The quotes in defense of Bill Clinton's liason with Monica go on and on, after all, as Geraldo said so many times, "it's only sex." I don't know how anyone supported John Edwards even before we knew about Ms. Hunter, but I know close friends who did until...and then they supported Barack Obama. I have nothing good to say about Edwards so, I not defending him, I'm bashing Geraldo.

I mentioned that O'Reilly is a disingenuous grandstander too. While I like many things that O'Reilly does, especially when he is after judges givinf leniency to child predators, I appreciate what he does. He is good at it, but I've about had it with his continual comments about the amazing prowess of the Obama campaign. Hey O'Reilly, it's over, and now we've got him in the Oval Office. Keep your eye on O-man.

While you couch everything you say about Obama with generosity and moderation, and then ding his ideas, well...wake up. They ARE his ideas and they are extreme ideas. How can you be so generous and so moderate about a man who hatched these particular plans for America?

You are a disingenuous grandstander sometimes, O'Reilly...either that, or this is your way to get Obama back for an interview. And John Edwards, the disingenuous, lying, cheating scumbag of a grandstander whose ostentatious faux magnanimity gluts his every interview, there is this chat with Katie Couric in December 2007, and she asks how important Edwards believes fidelity is to the character of a president:
COURIC: Harry Truman said, "A man not honorable in his marital relations is not usually honorable in any other." Some people don't feel comfortable supporting a candidate who has not remained faithful to his or her spouse. Can you understand their position?
EDWARDS: Of course. I mean, for a lot of Americans-- including the family that I grew up with, I mean, it's-- it's fundamental to-- how you judge people and human character-- whether you keep your word, whether you keep what is your ultimate word, which is that-- you love-- your spouse, and you'll stay with them.
COURIC: Do you think-- what-- what about people who use that as a way to evaluate a candidate? In other words, there have been a number of fine presidents according to some analysts...who have certainly not been sort of exhibited the greatest moral character when it comes to infidelity...I guess is what I'm getting at.
EDWARDS: Yes.
COURIC: So how important do you think it is in the grand scheme of things?
EDWARDS: I think the most important qualities in a president in today's world are trustworthiness-- sincerity, honesty, strength of leadership. And-- and certainly that goes to a part of that. It's not the whole thing. But it goes to a part of it.
COURIC: So you think it's-- an appropriate way to judge a candidate?
EDWARDS: Yeah. But I don't think it's controlling. I mean, I think that, as you point out, there have been American presidents that at least according to the-- to the stories we've all heard-- that were not faithful, that were in fact good presidents. So I don't think it controls the issue. But I think it's certain-- something reasonable for people to consider.
This is December of 2007. Edwards hired Hunter in 2006 to begin a series of documentary shorts for political purposes. In October 2007, Sam Stein writing for Huffington Post tried to access the "webisodes." Strange thing - they had disappeared. The Edwards camp, now gearing up for campaign mode, said they didn't have them. Rielle Hunter's partner said the Edwards group had them. Stein began wondering who Rielle Hunter was. The hunt for the smoking gun was on. The Couric interview makes one think that perky Katie knew exactly the position in which she was placing this disingenuous grandstander.

John Edwards Sex Tape: John Edwards, Rielle Hunter Sex Tape?

Reports are abuzz that not only is Rielle Hunter's baby's daddy definitely the former Senator John Edwards', but there was a sex tape made as well. See 1-29-10 Update Below.

John Edwards - Rielle Hunter

Edwards has been out of the spotlight since his affair with Hunter was discovered during his 2008 run for U.S. President. You might remember that the National Enquirer "got it right," as they often do these days. The Enquirer reporter got all the info and hung at the hotel. They reported that Edwards was not only visiting Hunter, but a baby was part of the story also. The next day when Edwards tried to leave, he was confronted by National Enquirer reporters.
Shocked to see a reporter, and without saying anything, Edwards ran up the stairs leading from the hotel basement to the lobby. But, spotting a photographer, he doubled back into the basement. As he emerged from the stairwell, reporter Butterfield questioned him about his hookup with Rielle.
What a story that was. So here's what happened next: Andrew Young, a former aid to John Edwards claimed that Hunter's baby was his during the 2008 campaign - not Edwards. That was before the Young's book deal was signed. Funny thing, Andrew subsequently moved to a new home, unpacked and guess what he found? A videocassette:
Hunter had been hired by the Edwards campaign to videotape the candidate’s movements, but this one is said to have shown him taking positions that weren’t on his official platform.
The purported sex tape confirmed to Hunter that Edwards was even more reckless than he thought.

According to our source, Hunter confided to Young that she and Edwards talked about getting married should the candidate’s cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth, pass away, even discussing what music they’d play at their wedding.

Reporters Covering Edwards Find Scandal Treasures Archived

John Edwards and his mistress, Rielle Hunter, traveled together during Edwards' 2006 Presidential announcement tour. On December 28, 2006, blogger and AP photographer, Robert Scoble, unknowingly documented at least one such trip with his camera. See updates below.

Scoble blogged Friday about the four-day presidential announcement trip, after Edwards admitted the romance with Hunter. Wrote Scoble, "I had no idea that when former Senator John Edwards invited me to come along on his plane back in December of 2006 that I would have had a front-row seat to a sex scandal."
Edwards recently admitted to the affair with Hunter and said he told his wife, Elizabeth about it in 2006, although he has not disclosed the exact date. Jonathan Darman, writing for NewsWeek, says the first time he saw Rielle Hunter they were both on a commuter flight with John Edwards, on the way to Des Moines, Iowa, and Hunter "was flirting with a candidate for president of the United States." Darman says he was the only "national reporter" covering Edwards in Iowa for two days in July 2006. Hunter showed up at the first event with her video camera:
She was trying to get as close to the candidate as she could. "Does she work for the campaign?" I asked Edwards's press secretary, Kim Rubey. "Oh, she's working on a documentary project," said Rubey. "We're not sure if it's going to work out." But it was soon clear that she was on Team Edwards. When it came time to drive to the next event, she rode in the car with the candidate. I drove behind in a rental car.
Darman chatted with Rielle Hunter at the next scheduled event. She asked him what his astrological sign was and she spoke freely with him about her life. According to Darman, she is an astrology devotee, has been a spiritual adviser, a seeker and "is a firm believer in the power of truth." Fox News reports that a "former" close friend to Hunter, Pigeon O'Brien, says the affair began "months before she was hired to work for his campaign," although Edwards claims that their liason began only after she was hired to film internet documentaries.
Photo Credit: AP (Associated Press) Provided by National Enquirer
By the time Hunter was signed on to the Edwards campaign as a videographer — for a fee of $114,000 — O’Brien said they were already in a steamy relationship.
The National Enquirer has been working on this story for a year and claims that Edwards is the father of Hunter's 5 month old daughter, which Edwards denies and Hunter refuses to confirm or deny. It's only a few days since the scandal escalated at warp speed, and pigeons are coming home to roost. Reporters may find treasures archived among old campaign litter and friends may "dish" for their 15 minutes of fame. Update 6-29-09: John Edwards Sex Tape: John Edwards, Rielle Hunter Sex Tape?

The John Edwards "affair," and his own words should give pause to every voter, not for the obvious reasons, but because he is such a weasel at heart. See updates below.

...through a lot of work and success I got some acclaim as a lawyer. People were telling me, oh you're such a great person, such a great lawyer, such a talent, no telling what you'll do. This was when I was 30, 31 years old. Then I went from being a young senator to being considered for vice president, running for president, being a vice presidential candidate, all of which fed a self-focus, an egotism, a narcissicism that leads you to believe you can do anything you want, you are invincible and there will be no consequences.
Blaming your public fall from grace on your ability to shill your followers is disingenuous and despicable. The lesson for voters? Pompous and grandiose candidates are rejected by American voters, as was John Edwards, John Kerry and Al Gore.

Eminent Domain, Obama, and the little guy

Cross-posted from Faultline USA

Yesterday three minor news stories came together into one story, and then the story really got interesting. Hang in there and read on. Don’t you want to find out why Obama positioned himself in alignment with the rotation of the earth?

(1) Congress was opened for the first time by a Hindu prayer. The Hindu cleric’s prayer to open Congress was disrupted by some Christians. Read three different takes on this from Christian Newswire, Religion Clause, and the lefty Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

(2) Eminent Domain Reform was introduced in U.S. House of Representatives. The Castle Coalition reported yesterday that Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) introduced the Private Property Rights Protection Act of 2007 to stop taxpayer funding of eminent domain abuse. . . “It prevents Americans’ federal tax dollars from being used to kick them off their land for private development, while allowing federal money for traditional public uses like roads and post offices. ” According to Steven Anderson, director of the Castle Coalition, “Unsurprisingly, tax-hungry governments and land-hungry developers prey on those that are less likely to be able to defend themselves.

It is vital that the federal government stop subsidizing this blatant abuse of power.” Eminent Domain reform is desperately needed following the disastrous Kelo vs the City of New London Supreme Court ruling. This reform should have broad bi-partisan support. Lefty groups, however, are a bit too fond of portraying the “little guy” as an inner city minority or a member of a “marginalized” group. In fact, the little guy is just as likely to be a farmer or rancher who will lose family land to the NAFTA highway, to some kind of questionable “city” government, or to big money private development.

Read about the consequences of Kelo vs City of New London. “In Kelo v. City of New London, the U.S. Supreme Court held that anyone’s home or business can be taken if the government thinks someone else can make more money with the land. The floodgates to eminent domain abuse have busted open. However, there is a silver lining.” Also read The Impact of the Kelo Decision from reason.org.

(3) An Iowa farmer is being threatened with Eminent Domain by the Maharishi Vedic City. Bob Palm and his two brothers have 149 acres of farmland that has been in their family for 115 years. After the Palm brothers announced plans to raise hogs on the farm, the Maharishi Vedic City became upset because the city does not allow the sale of any non-organically raised product (that means only vegetarian). The city offered to buy the farm to build a park after appraising the farm’s value at $2,675 per acre. The Palms refused to sell and the “peace-loving” cult threatened to bring Eminent Domain proceedings.

Currently they are at a standoff. I am really curious. Isn’t this America, the land of the free and home of the brave? How did Maharishi Vedic City become a genuine city in Iowa? Aren’t all American cities held to some basic standards of freedom of diversity? Apparently not so! In Maharishi Vedic City no one is allowed to sell non-organic products. The city is vegetarian. The official language is Hindu Sanskrit. Need I go on? So how can this so-called American city even be considered a real city much less bring Eminent Domain proceedings against a neighbor? For some history on the Utopian, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and his Transcendental Meditation cult read Heaven on Earth .

Living in the hope of spending the afterlife in heaven is a definite waste of the glorious gift of human life. So every individual must try to create a heavenly environment on earth, and one Hindu spiritual leader thinks it's very much possible to build heaven on earth! He is Maharishi Mahesh Yogi — the notable Vedic teacher and celebrated guru of transcendental meditation, and the vital force behind such Vedic institutions as the Maharishi University of Management and the Maharishi International University.
According to a 2000 article by Rick Ross it’s all about big money and politics:
Today, amazingly, the Maharishi is still purveying bliss - only to the gentry, not below stairs. He has become a fashion icon. His sly smile no longer looks down from a thousand college notice boards, but he is the pin-up of politicians, accountants, doctors, businessmen and journalists. In this era of anxiety, his New Age message is the antidote to executive stress.
What is Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Natural Law party?
According to the Natural Law Party (U.S.) "50-Point Action Plan to Revitalize America," "there are simple, humane, cost-effective, scientifically proven solutions to all of America’s problems. The Natural Law Party was founded to implement these solutions immediately in government." The discussion of their actual policy in their printed material and web site, while quite lofty, is extremely vague. Nowhere in the literature they mail to prospective members do they mention that all of these "solutions" are based on products of one controversial group. But in actuality the Natural Law Party is a global "political" front -- with organizations in 80 countries -- for the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement.
The Maharishi is a Hindu monk who began teaching TM in the 1950s. The public best knows him for his association with the Beatles, who learned TM from him in the late 1960s. It's interesting to note that in 1957, the Maharishi claimed he would bring the world to enlightenment within 10 years -- and would then retire to the caves of the Himalayas to spend the remainder of his days in quiet meditation. Yet, today he governs a world-wide spiritual empire worth over $3.5 billion dollars.More details and source documents. Return to top.
Also read Secrets of the Natural Law Party. Here’s an excerpt from the chapter Unnatural FAQs:
. . .Since the 1970s, the Maharishi has touted TM as a secular form of meditation that does not conflict with any religion, philosophy, or governmental system. But in fact, insiders report that TM is secretly a very fundamental form of Hinduism. According to former Maharishi International University professor Anthony D. DeNaro, the Maharishi once snapped, "When America is ready for Hinduism, I will tell them." The Maharishi incorporated his original movement as a religious organization with himself as its "spiritual head." He has said that he chooses the names of Hindu gods as mantras for his followers. Four U.S. courts have found that TM is religious or a religion. . . .
All the more reason why this city isn’t an American city and should not have the power of Eminent Domain! Obama woos Vedic City, folks! Also see Politico Blog. Here’s an excerpt from with bold added by me.
FAIRFIELD, Iowa-Sen. Barack Obama drew his heartiest welcome of a two-day swing through Iowa in the state's capital of inner peace. . .Obama had positioned himself in alignment with the rotation of the earth, in accordance with the teachings of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, whose followers moved en masse to this small Iowa city more than 30 years ago.The Maharishi’s transcendental meditators, along with vacationing pilgrims from the East Coast, turned out in large numbers in the town’s traditional green square to hear the Illinois senator deliver his stump speech on the night of July 3-more people, Fairfield’s sheriff said, than had come out to greet a sitting president.“I saw him and I thought, ‘Oh my god, this is somebody who could lead us into a new era,’” said Nancy Watkins, an international student adviser at the Maharishi University of Management.
A liberal’s take on the event. Here’s an excerpt. Highlights added by the liberal:
Meditating Iowans At Peace With Obama CBS News, NY turned out in large numbers in the town’s traditional green square to hear the Illinois senator deliver his stump speech on the night of July 3 — more people, Fairfield’s sheriff said, than had come out to greet a sitting president. ..... "Somehow we have lost the capacity to recognize ourselves in each other,"” Obama said, to an intently nodding crowd of at least 1,000. "You know, people talk a lot about the federal deficit, but one of the things that I always talk about is …an empathy deficit," he continued, to applause. ...... Obama spoke as Washington wallows in a summer of intense conflict. Subpoenas are flying from the Hill to the White House. ..... In some of his speeches, he didn't even mention President Bush. .....
This is a central gamble of Obama's campaign for President. The loudest voices in the Democratic Party — from Chairman Howard Dean to former Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Hillary Clinton — have been sounding steady notes of confrontation with the White House. Clinton and Edwards argue that they will win the partisan wars. ..... Obama argues that the country, and even partisans, are tired of partisan warfare. .... a suburb — the fist new city incorporated in Iowa in decades — called Maharishi Vedic City, in which all buildings face East.
Now I wonder if the crowd was nodding in agreement with Obama or just head-bobbing in transcendental meditation? No matter. It sure looks like Obama won’t be visiting any farmers facing Eminent Domain these days, now does it? Obama’s got more bread to butter and he knows exactly where to find it! H/T to Iowa Voice “Gurus Love Obama” (from someone living in the midst of these folks) . . .
Oh, by the way…you know what that “Yoga flying” really is? They cross their legs, go into a “trance” (some “herbs” might be involved, if you get my drift), and then proceed to hop/bounce around a gymnasium. They barely get a few inches off the floor, yet they think they’re actually flying. And that’s just stage 1! Pure freakin’ nutjobs. So if they want to be supportive of Obama, more power to ‘em. But I’ll just bet you won’t see any “Endorsed by The Maharishi University” on any campaign flyers anytime soon.
