John Brennan Exposed - Again and Again! Brennan Denigrates "Opportunity" of West

John Brennan, Obama's Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterrorism is caught once again shilling for the enemy and making al-Qaeda and jihad the victim. Not only is he caught and publicly exposed by the Washington Times, Brennan is furious about it - so furious that he challenges the Washington Times saying some terrorists have the opportunity to become "Westerners." Brennan talks about the arrogance of calling the West an "opportunity."  Talk about arrogance, Brennan has sooommmme arrogance and sooommmme loathing of Western liberty in this contentious video below.

This story has a few layers. A June 11th editorial at the Washington Times said a Brennan speech in May 2010 made "Terrorists the real victim?". Brennan said

Mr. Brennan also asserted that "violent extremists" are victims of "political, economic and social forces." This dense statement implies that counterterrorism should focus not on terrorists themselves but the underlying causes that purportedly "victimized" them.... Making terrorists into victims also legitimates their grievances, which is a strange way to fight them....

Mr. Brennan also has been waging his own crusade on jihad. He claims "jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one's community, and there is nothing holy or legitimate or Islamic about murdering innocent men, women and children....." But jihad also can mean the violent struggle against non-Muslims for the defense or extension of the Islamic faith, something known as the "lesser jihad," which to the United States is the greater threat... 

Mr. Brennan's view of Islam as a universally benign force may lead him to dismiss some of al Qaeda's justifications for violence, which reveals willful ignorance. He may maintain that he knows more about Islam than our enemies, but they are dying to prove him wrong.

Days after the Underpants Bomber failed to scorch his scrotum, but failed to bring down the airliner, CNN's Gloria Borger interviewed Brennan. Brennan's scrotum was likely scorched a bit as well, as she claimed six government agencies had pertinent information about the almost-bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Brennan received a security briefing from Saudia Arabia specifically to warn him about bombers with bombs sewed into their underwear...and specifically from Yemen.

Brennan argued to put the Underpants Bomber in a civilian court with full protections of an American, rather than military, saying the U.S. can get him to talk by offering him A PLEA DEAL.

One more story about Brennan: In early January 2010, former head of the CIA, Michael Scheuer, accused Brennan of a career mainly consisting of "ass-kissing." I posted the videos here, but, no surprise...they've been removed from history of he Obama administration.

On August 20th, Washington Times writer Kerry Picket declares the White House wrong on terrorism...again. Speaking to reporters in Martha's Vineyard, Brennan talked about the release of Megrahi, the Lockerbie Bomber from a Scottish prison, and said that early release was "wrong." Nevermind that his boss, Barack Obama played an integral part in sending Megrahi home to Libya to live infinitum with his family after killing 190 Americans, many of whom were college students.

TWT: The concern that I have is your comments that we misrepresented you in the editorial, and what I understand the concern is about whether you described terrorists as victims. Is that?

BRENNAN: Yes, it was the one reference you made.

TWT: We have a copy of your speech here from whitehouse.gov, which I assume is the correct speech and the way I read this, and I think the plain English reading is : ‘This includes addressing the political, economic and social forces that can make some people fall victim to the cancer of violent extremism.’

BRENNAN: Right...victim to the cancer of violent extremism. Victim to that cancer as opposed to...

TWT: But, you’re not talking about dead bodies here. You’re talking about the people who fall under the sway of the terrorist ideology and...

BRENNAN: Right.

TWT: ...and commit acts of terror.

BRENNAN: Absolutely...as you say fall under the sway of, and what you say in your editorial was that ‘the terrorists are victims of political, economic, and social forces.’ That is not what I said.

TWT: That’s exactly what you said.

BRENNAN:That is not exactly what I said.

TWT: Immediately afterwards, you start talking about how you’re going to address this, and you say that ‘we need to show that legitimate grievances can be resolved, that we need to have good governance, that we need to reduce corruption, we need to renew partnerships and improve education, health, and basic services.

BRENNAN: Right, but don’t you think those are worth while endeavors? And don’t you think that some factors do contribute to the spawning of terrorists and extremist forces?

TWT: You’re saying that the people who are terrorists are victims of these things.

BRENNAN: I didn’t say that. Read what I said literally

TWT: We did read what you said.

BRENNAN: And you still don’t get it...do you?

TWT: No. Particularly since, if my knowledge of history is anything, that the terrorists who strike us over and over again are not people who are victims of these things. They are people who have the opportunity to become westerners. They are people who have the opportunity to...

BRENNAN: Opportunity to become westerners?!?! Boy if that is not an arrogant attitude. Opportunities to become westerners...people who strike us wherever they’re from?

TWT: People who are so oppressed, that they have college educations at western schools. People who are so oppressed that people that they have middle class lifestyles even in that places that they come from that are poor.

BRENNAN: Right. They are ideologically driven by a perverse and distorted version of Islam. Absolutely.

TWT: That has nothing to do with their social situation. Their social situation is just fine.

BRENNAN: So you don’t think that people who become ideologically driven are influenced at all by the political, social, and economic forces of their environment? You’re saying that they do this irrespective of their environment...of those social, political, and economic forces that are out there?

TWT: You’re not accurately describing their environment.

Janet Napolitano Stores Full Body Scans

The U.S. Marshall's office says it has stored "tens of thousands of body scan images taken in one Florida courthouse. We have continually been assured by Janet Napolitano and Homeland Security that all body scans would be destroyed immediately.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group, has filed a lawsuit asking a federal judge to grant an immediate injunction pulling the plug on TSA's body scanning program. In a separate lawsuit, EPIC obtained a letter (PDF) from the Marshals Service, part of the Justice Department, and released it on Tuesday afternoon.

These "devices are designed and deployed in a way that allows the images to be routinely stored and recorded, which is exactly what the Marshals Service is doing," EPIC executive director Marc Rotenberg told CNET. "We think it's significant."...

For its part, the TSA says that body scanning is perfectly constitutional: "The program is designed to respect individual sensibilities regarding privacy, modesty and personal autonomy to the maximum extent possible, while still performing its crucial function of protecting all members of the public from potentially catastrophic events."

Congress Signs Letter Supporting Mosab Yousef - No Democrat Signatures

Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO) released his letter to Department of Homeland Security in support of Mosab Yousef this evening with 22 final co-signers. Not a single Democrat signed the letter.

In this Daily Caller post, they asked Lamborn if he thought the letter would be effective in the DHS Immigration court tomorrow. His answer is sobering and shows the trepidation those of us familiar with Mosab's case are feeling about his dangerous situation. He is at the the mercy of Homeland Security. The final signers - not a single Democrat among them. Maybe Congressman Lamborn didn't ask a single Democrat to sign???

Many of you know the story of Mosab Hassan Yousef. Homeland Security believes Yousef is a national security threat. He is scheduled for a deportation hearing in a San Diego Homeland Security court on June 30, 2010.

Our plan is to contact members of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Duncan Hunter (D-CA), selected members of Congress and the press.

The "we" in this effort is Bob at The Camp of the Saints, Karen at The Lonely Conservative, and Maggie at Maggie's Notebook.

We are not associated in any way with, and receive no funds from, any non-profit or profit organization, or individuals.  We do not know Mr. Yousef. We have had no contact with him, but are undertaking this endeavour on our own. We are lobbying for his life. We hope to keep Mosab in the U.S. and out of the Middle East, where he will face certain death.

Mosab Hassan Yousef Homeland Security: Homeland Security to Deport Mosab Hassan Yousef

Mosab Hassan Yousef, known as The Son of Hamas, has been targeted by Homeland Security for deportation. Yousef is a Palestinian. His father is a Hamas leader. Mosab was an agent for Israel's Mossad for many years. In a strange turnaround in his life, Mosab was imprisoned in Israel for ten years, witnessed the torture of Hamas members by Hamas member and met a tourist who led him to convert from Islam to Christianity.

Today, Mosab Yousef lives near San Diego. He is officially seeking asylum in the United States, but Homeland Security says he is a security threat (translated: he's a Muslim with the audacity to convert and...he supports Israel); DHS wants to send him back to Palestine where he will be put to death. Yousef will go before a San Diego judge on June 30th to determine his status in this country.

Mosab Yousef's life story is awe-inspiring, unless you have a Liberal viewpoint. Which begs the question: Who is behind the effort to send him home to certain death? Is CAIR lobbying Homeland Security? Is Hamas lobbying Muslim Congressmen Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Andre Carson (D-IN)? Are Ellison or Carson involved in this in any way? Is Syrian President Assad lobbying his ally, Nancy Pelosi? How about the powerful Dalia Mogahed, or Obama's good friend Louis Farrakahn and the "Fruits" of Islam? Or maybe Obama's good friend, drinking-buddy and Jew-hater, Rashid Khalid?

On the other hand, maybe it's our dhimmi U.S. State Department or more simply, Eric Holder in our Muslim-infected Department of Justice.

Nationally 60% Favor Verifying Immigration Status

Message to Obama and Napolitano, you are definitely a minority.  Nationally, 60% of Americans are in favor of stopping and verifying "immigration status."

Voter support for empowering local police comes at a time when most voters (56%) believe it is unlikely Congress will take action to gain control of the border. Only 31% say Congress is even somewhat likely to take such an action. That figure includes just 10% who believe Congress is Very Likely to act.

In fact, we have zero hope that you will take control of the border, and don't even think about controlling it by biometric registration of illegal aliens, as Secretary Napolitano suggested today. We want border incursions to stop. We want you to let the Border Guards do their jobs.

While you gritch about civil rights for illegal aliens, legal residents despise having our own civil rights violated to protect the civil rights of illegal aliens.  Can't you get that? Every time you tsk, tsk about violating the civil rights of illegals, we will resist even more. Start by protecting the civil rights of your citizens. You swore an oath to do so.

Former Arizona governor, Janet Napolitano, is taking shots at Arizona's new illegal alien law and she says we need reform now, which will include" biometric registration for illegal aliens, as well as mandatory English." What kind of reform is that? There is no respect for the Rule of Law. When did we acquiesce to breaking the law to get what some want, at the expense of others, and at the expense of breaking our Nation's laws?

The Obama administration has it all figured out - fines, biometric registration and mandatory English. How's that for illegal alien reform?

Saying she views the illegal alien problem in Arizona a "security" problem, comes just a little late, as she did nothing to curb the incursion across her state's borders when she sat in the Governor's chair. She left that nasty job for a Republican Governor, Jan Brewer, another woman who is five times the woman Napolitano can ever hope to be.

America, what can we do about Government officials not respecting the Rule of Law, and encouraging other officials to break the law? Napolitano must leave her position as Homeland Security Secretary. We can no longer afford to flush the Rule of Law down our political sewers. I am appalled at the blithness with which our President, our Homeland Security Secretary and Eric Holder, our U.S. Attorney General, break the law by enabling others to break the law.

To aimlessly repeat, and repeat, if you are not here legally, you are here illegally.

Hutaree Christian Militia Raided: Hutaree CAIR Involved: Hutaree Message Board Intrigue: Christians Make Janet Napolitano's Day

Sealed warrants. Raids. Searches. A small army of helicopters swarming. Neighbors shocked to find that it is Janet Napolitano's lucky day because those right-wing Christians are misbehaving, just as she said they would. Allegedly, the arrests are of members of a group known as Hutaree, are a part of something known as the Colonial Christian Republic, and are described as a Christian militia. But there is far more to this story. The Council on Islamic Relations (CAIR) has made a statement, and a woman "on the run" has left a message of intrigue - complete with the FBI hijacking the website of another militia. See Update 3-29-10 below.

While warrants are sealed and the names of the arrested are unknown, someone knows something because "a network journalist" called CAIR executive director, Dawud Walid -- while he attended a banquet and the "network journalist" knew enough to make the Muslims in the banquet hall "gasp" when Walid  told the crowd of "alleged threat against Muslims." I'll make a prediction that someone from a Michigan mosque went to the FBI. Am I jaded? Probably. Maybe not.

But remember, you and I know next to nothing - but the "network" journalist knows enough to call CAIR.

The raids by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force and Homeland Security, were a part of an investigation in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, with arrests made in Adrian, Michigan, and others in Ohio and Illinois.

Detroit News says the group describes themselves as "Christian soldiers preparing for the arrival and battle with the anti-Christ." And the story is, Hutaree (meaning Christian soldier) made a threat, or threats against some Islamic organization.

Reports make it obvious that authorities prepared to battle these "Christian soldiers."

WXYZ-TV reports that helicopters were spotted in the sky for much of Saturday night, and agents set up checkpoints through the area. Witnesses told the station that it was like a small army had descended on the area. 

There are official Michigan militias: Michiganmilitia.com and The Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia. Neither of these groups were a part of the raid. A spokesman for Michiganmilitia.com, Mike Lackomar, said he was told by "other militia members" that the:

 "FBI targeted the Hutaree after it's members made threats of violence against Islamic organizations.

One of the Hutaree members called a Michigan militia leader for assistance Saturday after federal agents had already began their raid, Lackomar said, but the militia member -- who is of Islamic decent and had heard about the threats -- declined to offer help. That Michigan militia leader is now working with federal officials to provide information on the Hutaree member for the investigation, Lackomar said Sunday.

"They are more of a survivalist group and in an emergency they withdraw and stand their ground. They are actively training to be alongside Jesus," he said.

The Michigan Messenger is reporting a Hutaree member (Anna) whose home was raided by the FBI is on the run with her child. She allegedly placed a message on a message board:

The Federal Authorities have raided not only our group but also the Michigan Militia. They had hijacked their website and placed word there that they were not raided.

We need some help please. This has to stop. I am enroute south with my children using the wifi's as I can.

They were catching others as they came to their rallying points, they broke into homes and took children and used the tasers on wives, my son who is 12 and I got out by crawling through the creeks behind our house.

My husband and others are taken, please call the press and tell them, if any in the Michigan Militia is still free please rally with them. Please help.

Well, yeah, I bet there is a lot of enthusiasm for "rallying" with a Michigan militia group.

The Hutatree website shows the photo above, and a video on the homepage shows members running through the woods, shooting from behind a dilapidated auto...etc. On their 'About Us' page, it begins with this statement:

As Christians we all are a part of the Souls of the Body of Christ, the one true church of Christ. Not any specific man made building or any man controlled organization. This is the belief of the Hutaree soldier, as should the belief of all followers in Christ be.

The website has a little bit of rock and roll on a webpage identified as Poker Face's Patriot Rock, and if you watch the video, the song begins with "I'm not a Democrat or Republican."  Under a sources link, as few interesting ones are WorldNetDaily, Financial Times, Asia Time, Jack Van Impe Ministries, The European Union Army, and others. A page titled Misc. Links shows The Patriot Broadcasting Network (Liberty Tree Radio), and militias in Michigan, Ohio and Idaho. There is an open forum link. The website has John 15:13 displayed at the top: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Mexican Military Helicopter Hovers Above Texas Homes: Homeland Security Infiltrated by Drug Cartels

A Mexican helicopter, believed to be Mexican military, hovered above the homes of Texas residents. With drug murders and mayhem just across the border of the Rio Grande, Border agencies, including Customs and Border Protection,  are allegedly being infiltrated by drug cartels, and Homeland Security's corruption cases are on the rise. I don't know about you, but just one case of Homeland Security corruption or infiltration, of any kind, is unthinkable.

Zapata County, Texas

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said there have been other "incursions" into the U.S. by Mexican Military. The Sheriff indicated the Mexican Military could not have made a mistake...the Rio Grande River is a clear border.

Gonzalez says he cannot confirm reports, presumably from Mexico, that the helicopter "was scoping out the home of a drug criminal, in a "neighborhood populated by many U.S. Customs officers who work at border crossing...."

There is a Zapata County, Texas and a Zapata County, Mexico in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. What good is Homeland Security if they cannot ferret-out infiltrators, before they infiltrate?

Erroll Southers Lies to Congress: Congress Knew Southers Lied

President Obama's nominee to head the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) lied to Congress. His confirmation to the office has been moved-up to tomorrow (just kidding - but probably). Not only did he lie, but some in Congress knew he lied before advancing his nomination in November 2009. See video below.

Unfortunately, the names of the Senators privvy to the lies, who voted for him anyway, are not in print. TSA is a division of Homeland Security. If Southers' confirmation is successful, he is scheduled to take the position in January 2010:

Southers, a former FBI agent, has described inconsistencies in his accounts to Congress as "inadvertent" and the result of poor memory of an incident that dates back 20 years. He said in a Nov. 20 letter to key senators obtained by The Post that he had accepted full responsibility long ago for a "grave error in judgment" in accessing confidential criminal records about his then-estranged wife's new boyfriend.

Southers gave a sworn affidavit in October 2009 - and apparently lied.

Southers first described the episode in his October affidavit, telling the Senate panel that two decades ago he asked a San Diego Police Department employee to access confidential criminal records about the boyfriend. Southers said he had been censured by superiors at the FBI. He described the incident as isolated and expressed regrets about it.

The committee approved his nomination Nov. 19. One day later, Southers wrote to Lieberman and Collins saying his first account was incorrect. After reviewing documents, he wrote, he recalled that he had twice conducted the database searches himself, downloaded confidential law enforcement records about his wife's boyfriend and passed information on to the police department employee, the letter said.

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) has opposed Southers' nomination, saying Southers intends to allow TSA workers to unionize, and he points out the danger in doing so:

"Today, the TSA has flexibility to make real-time decisions that allowed it to quickly improve security measures in response to this attempted attack," he said in a statement sent to Sphere by his staff. "Yet, many Americans aren't aware that the president's nominee to lead the TSA appears ready to give union bosses the power to veto or delay future security improvements at our airports."

 An "aviation security consultant Rich Roth says DeMint's concern is not  valid because the White House and the head of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, will make the final decision about unionization.

Democrats intimate had Southers been in place at the TSA, the Christmas Day Underwear Bomber may have been thwarted. DeMint says Obama took 243 days to nominate a candidate for the position:

"President Obama did not make this a priority, waiting 243 days in office before making a nomination, and Harry Reid has been too busy trading earmarks for votes on health care to schedule debate on the nominee."

This report from Bill Wilson at Americans for Limited Government, places blame on Senator Harry Reid and Barack Obama:

“Harry Reid’s own compulsive obsessive behavior in ruthlessly, recklessly pushing through his government health care takeover is what prevented Southers from being confirmed,” Wilson said. “And if any political action opened the door to a terrorist walking unmolested onto a domestic airline, it was Barack Obama’s laissez faire, politically correct attitude towards Islamic radicalism, not Jim DeMint following Senate rules.”

In the video below, you'll hear DeMint explain that collective bargaining (unions) has never been allowed inside the TSA. DeMint says there is a good reason for this and gives the example that when an emergency happens, we can't wait for union bosses to decide whether or not a worker can be moved from one place within an airport to another. Obama will win this one, and of course, TSA workers will be unionized.

WorldNetDaily links to a document published by the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University. Hasan's name appears on page 29 of a report titled "Thinking Anew - Security Priorities for the Next Administration...Presidential Transition Task Force," April 2009-January 2009.

It is confirmed that the Nidal Hasan in listed in the document is the same Hasan who murdered and allegedly wounded fellow soldiers at Fort Hood. Hasan apparently applied to sit on the task force through the University's website, and was present at several meetings. Hasan served as a member of the Uniformed Service University School of Medicine.

This task force was tasked with developing homeland security policy. 

The HSPI [Homeland Security Policy Institute] fashions itself a “think and do tank” and claims its mission as that of building “bridges between theory and practice to advance homeland security through an interdisciplinary approach.” I wonder if one of those bridges leads to “understanding” the mindset of terrorists like Hasan, a participant in George Washington University’s “think and do” mission?

About the "radical leadership" in the Obama administration:

Rush - Denial of freedom, attack on liberty

Rush - There wasn't any growth in the private sector

Rush - GDP equals CIG -- that is, consumers, the investment of business, and government. And it's all G. It's all government. There is no private sector growth. There were no new jobs being created. We're losing them.

Rush - Just  -- he's [Obama] (inaudible) he's a child. I think he's -- he's got a -- a five-minute career. He was in the Senate for 150 days. He was a community organizer in Chicago for however number of years. He really has no experience running anything. He's very young. I think he's got an out-of-this-world ego. He's very narcissistic. And he's able to focus all attention on him all the time. That -- that description is simply a way to cut through the noise and say he's immature, inexperienced, in over his head. 

WALLACE: Let's talk about a couple of the big issues the president is dealing with now -- first of all, Afghanistan. You suggest that he is taking all of this time to decide what to do in Afghanistan to keep his left-wing base on board for health care reform.

RUSH: Well, it's partly that, but I also don't think he cares much about it. I think once...

WALLACE: Well, come on.

RUSH: No, I -- no, see, this is -- I know this is going to sound controversial, but I don't think he cares that -- if he -- Chris, if he cared about -- we've got soldiers and their families worrying about what we're going to do. The general on the ground said we need some more troops.

The policy that he implemented in March he now doesn't like and is trying to figure out how best to make everybody happy here politically on his side of the aisle and also for his image. Democrats have a tendency to be seen as weak on defense, so he's battling with that.

But again, if he cared about victory -- remember, he said about Afghanistan victory is not something he's comfortable with, the concept. It reminds him of the Japanese surrendering on the USS Missouri. It made him very uncomfortable.

He wants to manage this rather than achieve victory. He says these things. I don't know if people actually listen and have them register when he does. 


WALLACE: But you don't think that Barack Obama has a profound respect for our soldiers and the families that are giving the sacrifice?

RUSH: Chris, throughout the Iraq war, it was Barack Obama and the Democrat Party which actively sought the defeat of the U.S. military. They convened hearings and accused General Petraeus of lying. They said the surge would not work.

Harry Reid stands up, waves the white flag -- this war is lost. Jack Murtha is out saying our Marines at Haditha are guilty of rape. John Kerry is accusing our Marines of committing terrorism acts by going into the homes of Iraqis at midnight in the dark terrorizing, looking for Al Qaida or whoever was there.

Yeah. I mean, look. I hate to be honest with you here, but I do question their commitment to national security. I question their commitment to the U.S. military. They'll put their political survival and their political power being gained over anything else. They'll use anybody and throw anybody away in order to achieve it.

Arrested Illegal Aliens Move to Hotels, Nursing Homes?

Homeland Security and ICE say they will present an Alternatives to Detention plan to Congress this Fall, possibly proposing moving jailed illegal aliens to converted hotels, nursing homes and residential facilities. Some illegals may be released with electronic monitoring or "intensive supervision."

Our detention system has some who have committed crimes, others whose crimes under federal law is a misdemeanor, others who have as I said before not committed a crime at all,” Napolitano said.

Being in the U.S. illegally, is illegal - it is a crime. If some of these people are here for asylum, then that may be a different situation, but how many asylum-seekers do we have? i

DHS detained about 378,000 aliens last year, who at any given time “occupy 32,000 to 34,000 beds across the country,” Napolitano said at her press conference.

From an ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) spokesman:

“a range of alternatives” were being considered, including releasing and supervising, rather than detaining, some illegal aliens who have been arrested.

 "Non-prison-like" housing is the goal. "As many as 15,000 illegal aliens are already in ATD program, Brigham said."

Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, has asked Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona to please concentrate on arresting "criminal illegal aliens," rather than just "illegals." ICE and Homeland Security can follow the rule of law and concentrate on arresting each and every single person here illegally. No need to ever put them anywhere but a jail-like-facility, if you ship them home sooner rather than later.

Joe Arpaio Janet Napolitano: Arpaio Crime Suppression Illegal

Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, has "decertified" Arizona Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, making it impossible for him to arrest illegal encroachers, "based solely on their immigration status." The decertification takes away his authority to arrest illegals solely on the basis that they are illegally in this country. Sheriff Joe Arpaio's crime suppression is illegal.

The Department of Homeland Security signs agreements with states or counties - not sure...and this time, that agreement was signed on September 21st and then recinded.  Arpaio was offered a more limited compromise, which he did sign:

Arpaio said he will be able to still conduct the crime sweeps under state human smuggling laws and an obscure federal law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants.

Now I’m not under their control,” Arpaio said. “Nothing changes; that’s the irony of all of this.”


He will conduct one in two weeks “with a new twist.” Arpaio did not go into further detail about what that means.

The Department of Justice is investigating Arpaio, and what he refers to as his "crime suppression operations.

Arpaio will still have the power to check the immigration status of people booked by his officers, but not the authority to conduct street patrols looking for illegal immigrants.

Arpaio said ICE conducted an audit of his office’s use of the program, but DHS refused to release it.


Arpaio said his office managed to get a copy recently through the “back door.”
A summary of the audit said the working relationship between the sheriff’s office and ICE was good, and there were no deficiencies found after a review of case files.


“It came out perfect,” said Arpaio, citing that as the reason DHS refused to release the audit.

New "agreements" have been drafted because DHS believes local authorities are "using minor infractions to get illegal immigratnts deported." The indication is that police and sheriffs ignore "criminal aliens" and just go after the little guy. If that is the case, which I doubt that it is, why not allow the continuation of the deportation of any illegal and criticize the lack of true policing. Seems that would be the way to actually follow the law.

Arizona Republican Representatives Trent Franks and Lamar Smith issued this statement:

This unbelievable move by the Obama Administration represents a politicized attempt to hinder one of our most effective illegal immigration enforcement mechanisms, the 287(g) program....

The fact is, the 287(g) program works.  Thousands of illegal immigrants apprehended for other crimes are being identified and deported.   Claims that the program was supposed to focus only on serious crimes are false.  In fact, the program was created to let state and local law enforcement officials help enforce all immigration laws, not a select few.


Local law enforcement agencies deserve the thanks, and not punishment, of the federal government for helping to address the problem of rampant illegal immigration, especially in area like Maricopa County that see an increase in crime, drug trafficking, and other issues because of it. 


The extent that the Feds are involved in state's rights is overwhelming. That's what happens when we take federal money, and it will get worse now that we have a member of La Raza on the Supreme Court.


Instead of launching a politicized attack against a local law official who has yielded great success with the 287(g) program, the Obama Administration should replicate the success we have experienced in Maricopa County in other areas that are desperately in need of similar solutions. It is reprehensible for DHS to bully law enforcement officials who have honorably served this nation and the state of Arizona by enforcing federal and state laws and who are continuing to work to protect the American people.”

The EastValleyTribune.com is taking advantage of the latest developments by touting their report which won a Pulitzer Prize for "local news reporting," and Arpaio also took the opportunity to suggest what can be done with the "garbage five-page series" that criticized his office and how he allocates funds. Ed Morrissey at Hot Air makes the point:

The Tribune’s point about resource allocation within the sheriff’s department is well taken — and completely irrelevant.  The DHS does not have the authority to dictate resource allocation of county sheriffs anywhere.  The people of Maricopa County make the determination of whether their sheriff has allocated resources to their liking, not the federal government.  Arpaio stands for election every four years, and so far no challenger has come within 10 points of Arpaio.  If Maricopa County residents are unhappy with Arpaio’s management of resources, they’re not demonstrating it.

If the Maricopa County Sheriff Department violated civil-rights rules, then the Department of Justice has the duty to investigate and to take corrective action.  So far, though, no one has proven anything of the sort — and that still wouldn’t be the jurisdiction of DHS... Read more at Hot Air.
