I was in Las Vegas recently, after the November 2nd election. While having a casual dinner at the Trevi restaurant in Caesar's Palace, our waiter Ralph asked where we were from. We told him Oklahoma and he asked about our economy there and specifically the housing market. We chatted about that and then he told us he bought a house two years ago just north of the city of Las Vegas. He paid $256,000 and thought his property, usually in a hot market, would surely gain equity. Just the opposite happened, of course, and I began schooling him about Bill Clinton's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd's coddling of it. Had I had the Parable of Johnny, I would have been finished with Ralph before dessert.

So, I've talked about the reason for all of our economic woes on this blog many, many times. Rather than go through it again, Michael Prell at The Daily Caller has a post today that simplifies the roller coaster that repeated itself over and over again, until everyone wanting a house had one, whether they could pay for it or not. This is how I should have explained it to Ralph:

The good news is that rather than abandon his home, which Ralph and his wife seriously considered, they refinanced and got their monthly payment greatly reduced and are once again hoping for a rise in equity.

An interesting short revelation coming via George W. Bush's new book, Decision Points. The president thought United 93 was brought down in the field in Pennsylvania, after being shot down on his orders.

Of course, that is not what happened. Passengers stormed the cockpit after learning of the two attacks on the World Trade Towers, and the plane crashed during the fight that ensued.
Bush issued the order to shoot down any hijacked flight that day. Think of the anguish of believing you ordered innocent Americans to die. How he felt after learning the truth is not mentioned in this tease of the coming release of Decision Points on November 9th.

Okay, to begin with, I will not pretend that I've always known to what the Latin Si Vis Pacem translates. But I didn't have to look it up because Ran, the Dominus at Si Vis Pacem provides the translation in his banner, and it is advice we must hold dear: If you seek peace, seek first liberty. So visiting Ran, I found his latest post on the truth about Tea Parties finally being told in media such as the Wall Street Journal.
Peggy Noonan wrote the article to which Dominus refers. Noonan is always quote-worthy, but I loved this quote from Ran in response to her article:
In the end, it isn't even about The Won. It is about the statist-progressive totalitarian agenda. America is an idea, after all. American exceptionalism is merely the aggregate expression of individual achievement obtained with Libery. That's really all we Teapers want."
Former President George W. Bush spoke at the University of Alabama this week and talked about his new book, Decision Points. The video below points out that G.W. has never spoken-out about his "decisions," and has been loathe to speak out against the ugly dialog coming from Barack Obama and the years of pummeling from the mainstream media.

He apparently does speak candidly in the book. There will be revelations, and I believe this book will be a huge seller - but we will not hear him bash the Obama administration. We have long-waited to hear the stories of the decisions this principled, good-hearted man faced.
"It's about the decisions I made as president, and it's very anecdotal. Here are the stories, and you can decide what you would have done," he was quoted as saying in the the Press-Register of Mobile. The 64-year-old said the tome gives some understanding to the decisions he made on tough issues like the handling of 9/11 and the Iraq war. The president, who has become a target of both Democrats and President Obama since he left office, refused to comment on the current state of political affairs. "You're not going to see me out opining or offering my critique. Frankly, I don't think it's good for the country to have a former president criticize his successor," Bush said.
In keeping with G.W.'s non-confrontational manner, the book will not be released until after the mid-term elections, with a Decision Points release date of November 9th, 2010.
Elizabeth Edwards has a new chapter in the newly released paperback of her book Resilience. Talking with Matt Lauer on the Today Show, she talked of the heartbreak of realizing that she could no longer be John Edwards' wife, and she wants her children to love their father, because he may need to be there for him if her cancer takes a bad turn.

I have great empathy for Elizabeth Edwards: empathy that she married the guy in the first place, then that she stayed with him for 33 years, and that she is battling cancer and has had that battle for a number of years now.
Having said that, it will be a better day when scorned women can talk about their philandering husbands without talking about "that other woman." It's useless. Dorothy Rabinowitz, a member of the Wall Street Journal's editorial board, and a Conservative awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary, pegs Barack Obama as "the alien in the White House."
...it was clear from the first that this president—single-minded, ever-visible, confident in his program for a reformed America saved from darkness by his arrival—was wanting in certain qualities citizens have until now taken for granted in their presidents. Namely, a tone and presence that said: This is the Americans' leader, a man of them, for them, the nation's voice and champion. Mr. Obama wasn't lacking in concern about the oil spill. No details available at this time. Update: I heard Tipper left him for bringing copious amount of hot air into the marriage. She was forced to use an inhaler. He was cruel beyond belief, and insisted she wear green - all the time, and when she refused to let him bring the Nobel to bed with them, that did it. She filed claiming irreconcilable carbon credits.
Apparently Mark Twain was an unhappy and angry man at his death, or at least was unhappy and angry at something or someone. The first of a three-volume autobiography, written in the six months leading up to his death, will be released in November. Twain did not want his story released until 100 years after his death in 1910.
Fifteen-year-old Jonathan Krohn is an amazing young man, but he still has some bubbles left to burst. He just hasn't lived enough life yet. For some reason Jonathan is dismissing Obama's background and training. That's okay - even though he thinks you and I are spreading "filth." It takes time to fully understand the breadth of the threat stalking this country. See a video below.

Michelle Obama will appear on Mike Huckabee to talk about childhood obesity. It is estimated at 17% of America's children are obese. The segment will air Saturday, February 20th.

Update 2-10-10: Big Dog's Weblog received a comment saying that the LA Times via the Washington Post reported that the books mentioned above were placed in the White House while Jackie Kennedy was First Lady, not MO, and Kennedy hired a Yale librarian, James T. Babb, to stock the Library. Kennedy's library became an instant library with 1,70 volumes placed on the shelves.
Babb said the works "represent the history and culture of the U.S....essential for an understanding of our national experience," and he knew the selections would be controversial:
Babb told The New York Times in 1963 that there was "bound to be criticism" of the choices. "There will still be people telling us what should be in this library, but we'll just have to be adamant," he said.

I find your comments on the CIA death story very childish and ignorant. You are calling the Jordanian attacker "Animal" and "Killer". What do you think the CIA people are doing in Afghanistan? Do you think they were handing flowers to the locals? But, I am sure you best argument against this will be " we are the good white people and them are the evil brown humans" Humans will never solve any problem if they don't try to see the other side's perspective.

Well, first I do not think the CIA were handing flowers to the locals. I believe the CIA was conducting intelligence so that our designated soldiers can complete the mission they have been handed to interact with the locals and show them the meaning of democracy, and encourage locals to assist in banishing the Taliban.

I can't help but wonder if al-Balawi, the killer of the CIA, ever treated an Afghan girl with an acid-splash to her face, courtesy the Taliban? Ah, yes, but the killer was a physician...and I'm sure he treated the children who were the collateral damage of U.S. soldiers. But, again, what of the Taliban, and just out-right victims of the Koran and it's brutal teachings. Tell me, RB, how do you support the inhumanity of your Koran?

Yes, American military is a definite threat to muslim, koranic macho bellicosity.
I have no idea who RB is, or what he does. I'll assume RB is a "he." He sounds like a Muslim man who wants his tidy, sweet little world to continue - you know, that world that loathes education for girls and women - in fact, loathes women for anything other than a vessel, a womb to bear jihadists and daughters to bear them even more, and which thrives on the brut force of the gang torture of villagers. If this is not who he is, then he is a sympathizer.
RB's email gives me an opportunity to talk about my favorite subject, books, and in particular Joan Peters' From Time Immemorial: The Origins of the Arab-Jewish Conflict Over Palestine. RB says the book is a "hoax," and he urges me to do an Internet search to validate his point. The book waspublished in 1984, is a heavily foot-noted tome with over 600 pages in my trade paperback. The book is stuffed with indexes and cross-referencing, along with photos of historical documents.

RB is correct that I can find From Time Immemorial discredited. The problem with RB's argument, however, is that no one has responsibly disputed the actual foot-noted facts and citations in the book - those which make the heart of Peter's argument. It has been called "rubbish," "a fraud," and "propaganda," and even the charge that "an intelligence agency" probably wrote the book.
The bottom line of the book shows that Arabs "immigrated" to Palestine, and for the most part, they followed the Jews there. That is the heart of the conflict. To supporters of Israel, the conflict is not that Arabs do not have a right to the land. The argument is that the Jews also have a right to the land. To supporters of Palestine, the argument is that Arabs have sole rights to the land and Jews have none.
In the end, the objections boil down to "opinions" about "data," regarding the Arab inflow to the land. Daniel Pipes said this:
Yet neither he [critic Yehoshua Porath] nor any of the detractors I have read has taken on the most striking of her demonstrations in favor of her case, dealing with the phenomenon she calls "in-migration" - that is, the movement of Arabs from other parts of Palestine into the main areas of Jewish settlement. She shows that in the years 1983 to 1947, while the Palestinian Arab population slightly more than doubled in areas where no Jews were settled, it quintupled in the main areas of Jewish settlement. How can this difference be accounted for without including Arab migration as a factor?
In the critique linked above, Pipes meets the objections to Peter's count of the Jews in the area at the time. For the count of Arabs in the land, she used the Ottoman census of 1893. For the count of Jews in the land, she used the count of a French geographer - whose "statistical estimates" range closely to the Ottoman census at times - but not all the time. Critics have jumped on this, proclaiming if Peters was serious and honest about her research, she would have used the Ottoman "statistical estimates" for the Jewish count as well. That count at the time was a little over 9100. As Pipes said she obviously abandoned the Ottoman (Muslim) count of Jews because it was "patently absurd."
The above discussion is of the nature of the opposition to Peters' book. There are many, many reviews that support the book with a great deal of enthusiasm and amazement of the documentation. When I first began blogging, I wrote Who and What are the Palestinians. Following that link will give a good idea of where Joan Peters was going with her book.

The Enquirer, that source of mounds of dirty gossip which more often than not has more than a grain of truth to it, says Martha Stewart's former best friend, Mariana Pasternak will tell all about Martha's "lesbian dates," her "prison attack horror," and the "violent temper tantrums" that won't surprise anyone.
The breaking news is, this quarter-century's Queen of Mean, Martha Stewart, allegedly collapsed after hearing her former friend's allegations. I have written little about Martha Stewart, but when this egotistical, narcissistic and outrageously rude domestic diva, who can't seem to make a single home happy, decided to talk-down about Sarah Palin and a very unsuspecting TV host, Rachel Ray, I couldn't pass it up.
The former friend, Mariana Pasternak, testified against Martha in the stock-trading-dumping trial that sent her to a federal prison. Friends say Martha never forgave Pasternak.
Martha and Mariana, 56, were close for more than 20 years. They chatted on the phone nearly every day, lived around the corner from each other in swanky Westport, Conn., and took vacations together....
"Martha has called Mariana in tears, screaming at her, 'Why would you
do this to me?' She still doesn't know exactly what Mariana has
written, but Mariana knows Martha's most intimate secrets, and the book
is sure to spill them.

saying that Ray had simply re-edited previous cookbooks to publish her
latest, and oh yes...she accused Rachel of "not having a garden." It's no surprise that this shallow and affected woman can't keep a friend.
Martha Stewart told Cynthia McFadden that while Rachael Ray may be
popular, her style is "not good enough" for the domestic diva.
"She professed that she cannot bake," Stewart told "Nightline" co-anchor Cynthia McFadden. "She just did a new cookbook which is just a re-edit of a lot of her old recipes. And that's not good enough for me.
Leona Helmsley may have been the original Queen of Mean but in her absence, Martha Stewart has willingly opened that door, walked through it and assumed the position. Assuming Pasternak's book is true and well-vetted, I hope she sells a lot of copies.

Andrew Young, the aide to presidential-wannabe John Edwards, has a book out soon, The Politician, about his boss and former U.S. Senator.

The National Enquirer obliterated any hope of The Breck Boy's political future with a report that Edwards had a mistress, Rielle Hunter, - had her for awhile...and the duo had an infant child, all while Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, fought a recurrence of breast cancer, which had moved to her lung.
Andrew Young fell on the sword at the time, and claimed that Hunter's baby was his. Young's wife was none-too-happy. There was no money in it for Rielle and her baby daughter with Young thought to be the father. From the publisher's remarks:

A court order served on Muslim Mafia co-author David Gaubatz to return documents obtained during an undercover operation inside the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), back to CAIR has been halted by the FBI, who served their own warrants for the same documents.

Audio and video files, along with thousands of pages of documents will now be turned over to the FBI, rather than given back to CAIR. According to WorldNetDaily, via Creeping Sharia, the FBI is interested in the documentation as part of their investingation into CAIR and "its Hamas terrorist links, including those involing its founding chariman and acting executor director."
Co-author P. David Gaubatz and his son Chris were involved in a lengthy investigation with Chris going deep inside the organization as an unpaid volunteer. With the publishing of the book, Muslim Mafia, Washington, D.C. Judge Kollar-Kotelly issued a restraining order on the Gaubatz' use and distribution of the materials, and ordered all documents returned to CAIR.
Joseph Farah, CEO of WorldNetDaily, first broke the story and has been helping David and Chris Gaubatz raise funds for legal fees, says he welcomes the FBI investigation but says "we will have to confer with the attorneys to determine what happens next. Antonio Gramsci was an Italian marxist who made a plan for the insidious erosion of freedom without overt hostility.

Antonio Gramsci was an Italian marxist, who sought to explain
exactly why the revolution predicted by Marx had not yet materialized.
His conclusion was that the church and the values held by the people
were the deterrent. While in prison Gramsci wrote extensively, laying
out plans for the overthrow of a capitalistic society. Rather than
overtaking the political and economic system by force, his strategy was
more subtle and sinister.
The first step, in Gramsci’s view, is to transform the ideology of
the people. His means include using education, the media, and setting
up separate organizations whose goal is to manipulate the masses into
mindsets that are receptive to marxist ideals. Once
traditional/Christian mores have been corrupted and the nuclear family
destroyed, the citizens of society will be willing to accept the “new
ideas” of the progressive leadership without question.
The second prong of Gramsci’s approach is then, using the democratic
process itself, to overtake the government by the will of the people.
Where Marx called for defiant “revolution” from the bottom up, the
revolution of Gramsci is a top-down model whereby leaders with marxist
ideology infiltrate the political parties and enforce their will upon
the people.
While many conservatives have been discussing Saul Alinsky and the
influence he has had on the current administration, I believe Alinsky
only lays out some general guidelines for achieving “social justice.”
Gramsci’s model is very specific, global, and extremely relevant to our
current political climate in the United States.
Some of the policies and tactics of the Obama Administration have
seemed indefensible and unexplainable, even by members of the
Democratic party. Our answer to the recession is to spend more money?
Asking the news networks to disregard Fox News as a “legitimate” news
source? Ramming through health care legislation that is opposed by the
majority of American citizens?
None of this seems to make sense … until you are introduced to Antonio Gramsci. I’m anxiously devouring the book Shadow World
by Robert Chandler. Chandler is a retired veteran who has been a
strategist for the Air Force, the White House, the Departments of
State, Defense, Energy, and Justice, and the CIA. Chandler’s book is
NOT about President Obama, but actually about the subtle takeover by
communist thought in America since the 1920s and the progressive plan
for our future.
Chandler lays out the history and migration of communists from
Russia coming to America early in the 20th century with plans for
transforming our society. These very players clung to the pattern laid
out by Gramsci, and began to set up well-funded, non-profit entities to
further their goals. These are organizations for affecting public
policy, infiltrating and overcoming the university classrooms, changing
the economy and creating government dependents, for affecting law
through lobbying and legal action and a host of other “fronts” for
communist activity.
The Institute for Policy Studies was founded by Samuel Rubin, a
dedicated communist, and Phillip Stern (with family members indicted of
spying for the Soviets) and is located in Washington, D.C. This
think-tank has long beed dedicated to the establishment of a socialist
society in America. To further this effort, Rubin and Stern later
created the Transnational Institute
(TNI) to carry the vision to the world at large. While it is difficult
to find a stand-alone Mission Statement for these organizations, such
terms as “effective action,” “just security,” “social equity,” and
“environmental solutions” to protect the “commons,” are a thinly veiled
disguise for promoting their one-world marxist utopia through arms
reduction, green justice, worldwide wealth re-distribution and a host
of other “effective solutions.” Shadow World lays out the framework that has been pursued by IPS and TNI, a.k.a. the strategy of Antonio Gramsci:
Ten steps toward an American progressive-socialist-marxist civil society:
1. change the popular consensus by destroying christianity, the traditional family, and existing social mores
2. transform the culture by installing a radical Left mind control
3. attain political power by imposing strict control of the military and law enforcement
4. restrict freedom by socializing the economy
5. erase American sovreignty by embracing a world without borders
6. attain political power by winning democratic elections
7. dominate both Houses of Congress
8. restrict freedom of the press and expression
9. enforce a massive redistribution of wealth from the private and public sector
10. limit freedom of speech, religion, right to bear arms, and state’s rights

Mind you, this book was published in 2008, so there is no way that Chandler could have foreseen the extent to which President Obama’s agenda would so closely follow the Gramsci pattern. When you look at this list, do you not see a representation of the ideology driving the Obama Administration? To what end are we reaching?
Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals is indeed part of Barack Obama’s philosophy. But Rules for Radicals merely gives the day to day solutions for facing conflict on the road to revolution. Antonio Gramsci provides us with the larger picture of transformation — from capitalism to progressive-socialism-marxism. Alinsky shows us how to drive the car, but Gramsci shows us the map of where we have been, where we are and where we are going. God help us, for where we are going.

information to anyone who will listen. These are historical facts that
explain current events in no uncertain terms. We must be aware, we must
be vigilant, we must be prayerful for the protection of our freedoms
and for the future of the United States of America.

While the New York Daily news says that Palin's visit has "sparked controvery," their own poll, this minute shows that 68% believes it is a good gesture, and grieving troops will appreciate it. Thirty one percent think it wrong for her to "try to get PR" out of the tragedy." You can vote in that poll here.

planned before the shooting and that the Army has since "reinforced
their invitation, saying it would boost the troops' morale."
CBS makes a point to say that Palin will bypass "liberal-leaning cities such as Seattle, San Franciso,Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Instead, she is stopping in Sioux City, Iowa; Noblesville, Indiana; Washington, Pennsylvania; and Rochester, New York. With this veiled elitest statement, CBS doesn't even realize that her book is breaking sales records as never before - no moonbats needed.

demand for “Going Rogue: An American Life” is so strong that
HarperCollins Publishers is going back to press for an additional
100,000 run, bringing the total number of hard-covers in print to 1.6
million copies.
UPDATE: Three major booksellers declined to release
sales figures for “Going Rogue” on Tuesday. However, a spokeswoman for
Amazon.com Inc.’s Web site noted in an email that the title “is already
one of our bestselling nonfiction books of 2009.” At 2:40 p.m., the
book ranked No. 1 on Amazon’s list of best sellers, with six customer
reviews and 393 customer discussions. Amazon is selling the book for
$14.50, a 50% discount from its $28.99 retail price.
By the way, in Grand Rapids, Michigan about 1,500 people turned out at the Barnes and Noble today for the Palin Book Tour. "Scores more" couldn't get a wristband, awaited Palin's arrival outside, braving the cold and yelling. "USA!" and 'Sarah, Sarah!"

of the trials and tribulations we have. I'd vote for her in a
heartbeat," said Lana Smith, a dispatcher at a bus company who took the
day off work and had been waiting in line since 5:30 a.m.

Dang! Remember back during the elections when Oprah was rah-rah-ing about Barack Obama, and refused to have Palin on the Oprah Winfrey Show? Many of us hoped that Sarah Palin would NEVER grant Oprah an interview after that. Well, she has. Dang!
In a headline announcing Oprah goes rogue, invites Palin on show, Palin will apparently appear on Oprah on Monday, November 16th. Selling books, ya know. Dang!
