Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan Missing: Brother of Dubai Ruler Missing

Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan is Dubai ruler, Sheikh Kahalifa bin Zayed's brother. Sheikh Ahmed has been missing since the glider plane he was in came down in a lake. The pilot was found safe, but there is not sign of Sheikhm Ahmed. See 3-29-10 update below. Latest Update 3-31-10: The body of Sheik Ahmed was found in Lake Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, near the Rabat, the Moroccan capital city. The family is reported to be frequent visitors to the area and owned a palace overlooking the lake reservoir.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan

A lake in Morocco, about 20 miles southeast of the capital city of Rabat, was searched yesterday. Sheikh Ahmed is the youngest brother of Sheikh Kahalifa and is not in immediate line for the throne.

Ahmed bin Zayed al-Nahyan (41), is listed on Forbes World's Most Powerful list at No. 27. He is the managing director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. The fund is considered the most "discreet" of the Abu Dhabi funds, and the fund's risk is diminished by holding less than 5% of corporations around the world, with total assets estimated between $300B and $800B. This piece in the L.A. Times says the fund is estimated to have $627 billion in assets and has stakes in Citigroup and Hyatt.

BusinessWeek described the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority as the "world's largest sovereign wealth fund."

All reports indicate today that the Moroccan police are still searching for Sheikh Ahmed.

ClimateGate Scientists Phil Jones Not Prosecuted: UAE Asks for Jones Resignation

A watchdog organization has concluded that Phil Jones and other scientists connected to the University of East Anglia's (UEA) climate change program broke the law when they refused to release data under Britain's version of our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Because the offenses happened more than 6 months ago, the men cannot be prosecuted.

Ignoring FOIA's should be a serious matter. Also serious, is what action will be taken for the manipulated data, paid for by taxpayers, and foisted on an unsuspecting world to keep the cash flowing to these so-called scientists?

Phil Jones, the Director of the UAE's climate research unit, and at the top of the pile of deceit, has lost the support of UEA. According to this report, he has been asked to resign, but will he be forced to resign, is the question?

As resignation calls mounted the university last night refused to back Professor Jones saying it was waiting for an independent review to be finalised. The professor has temporarily stepped aside as head of the unit pending the result of that review.

The Climatic Research Unit has received grants worth £13.7million over 20 years from public bodies including the Environment department and the Met Office.

Conservative MEP Roger Helmer, who sits on the EU Parliament’s climate change committee, said the Information Commissioner’s ruling meant Professor Jones must resign. 

“This ruling completely undermines his position as head of the unit,” he said. “Science is about open inquiry and challenge. If he conspired with others to hide data it begs a lot of questions. He should resign.”

Global Warming is about the money, and that is all it's about. Richard North, an "expert" on climate change research said:

Professor Jones is clearly motivated by the need to attract funding for his unit. If the unit has been set up to find global warming, releasing data showing that there isn’t will be the death knell for it.

Research like this has to be separated from the gravy train of government funding otherwise it will conducted with one eye on the next grant and never be objective.

Good news. Dubai and the UAE stepped up and stopped a weapons shipment to Iran from North Korea. The UAE has "reported the seizure of the [North Korean] vessel to the UN." I wonder how long it will take before the UN orders the release and safe passage on to Tehran? If the Emirates can stop North Korean weapons shipments, then every shipment should be stopped. In fact, North Korean leaders should be quaking in their cognac that a "seized" shipment of banned goods will bring wrath down upon them - but that's not the way we keep people free from nuclear threats around the world. What a shame.
