Gretchen Carlson Robert Gibbs: Carlson: CANDIDATE OBAMA SAID THAT? Gibbs Spins the Surge Video

Among many incongruities in this video, Fox News' Gretchen Carlson questions Obama's Press Secretary, whose spin leads Carlson to ask "Candidate Obama said that? Carlson had two things on her mind, both of which Robert Gibbs tried to ignore: (1) the surge worked, but Obama said it would not, and (2) will the President give President George W. Bush credit for the surge in his speech tonight.

Gretchen Carlson

Gibbs insists Obama actually said the surge would work. Gretchen questions that statement and asks if Gibbs' spin is how Obama will address his own flip-flop tonight.

Gretchen asks over and over if Obama will thank President Bush tonight for the success of the surge, and gets no answer. Watch at 4:42 in. Carlson is not amused.

Then in the second video listen to Obama's comments on the surge, where Obama says that Bush was wrong on the surge.
OBAMA: I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse. I think it takes pressure off the Iraqis to try to arrive at the political accommodation that every observer believes is the ultimate solution to the problems we face there. So I am going to actively oppose the president’s proposal. I don't doubt his sincerity when he says he thinks this is the best approach, but I think he is wrong. And I think the American people believe he is wrong. (NBC News)
The third video has clips of Obama saying none of the experts believe the surge will work, but then experts tell the real story. Obama began the flip-flop in July 2008 when he scrubbed his campaign website of all criticism of the massive effort that would allow troops to come home within two years.

Robert Gibbs Jason Mattera on Constitutionality: Steny Hoyer and Jason Mattera on Tax Cheats

Two videos. In the first, Robert Gibbs has an encounter with a young conservative reporter, Jason Mattera at Jason Mattera.com. Gibbs tries to compare approval of Bush tax cuts with passing the mammoth health care monstrosity. Great example of Liberal math: Give people more money in their pay checks, help businesses make their payroll, and it's the equivalent of snatching liberty and privacy out of the hands of parents and grandparents,  and hijacking the futures of coming generations with health care mandates, against the will of the people

[Gibbs] The spending in health care is less than the $1.3 trillion Bush health cut.
[Mattera] Do you ever feel dirty inside defending this administration's deceits and deceptions?
In the second video Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Majority Leader meets Jason Mattera. A snippet:
"How do you have the stones to tax Americans for not purchasing healh care when you have tax cheat Charlie Rangel writing legislation and tax cheat Tim Geithner enforcing it? You left-wingers have made hypocrisy an art form."
Great job Jason. Talk about stones! Jason has written a book: Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed my Generation. Buy it at JasonMattera.com

Obama Moves Indonesia Trip to June - Running Scared on HealthCare - Can't Delegate

Obama's Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, has just announced the President will delay his trip to Indonesia until June. There goes Spring Break - obviously can't delegate.

The trip has been delayed once already.

Republicans Meet Obama for Televised Health Care Feb 25th: Boehner Cantor Letter to Rahm Emanuel

More snake oil peddled by the President today, as he told reporters at a White House briefing that he will start from scratch with the health bill...but...but...he will not ditch the bill now in existance. What?

So I am going to be starting from scratch in the sense that I will be open to any ideas that help promote these goals," he said.
The President well knows the the positions that are not negotiable for Republicans, and he is not open about them: tort reform, no single payer, no payment for abortions and strong consideration of purchasing insurance across state lines.

Throughout this process, none of the above have been considered - even slightly, by Democrats. How many times do Republicans have to lay this out before him?
What I will not do, what I don't think makes sense and I don't think the American people want to see, would be another year of partisan wrangling around these issues, another six months or eight months or nine months worth of hearings in every single committee in the House and the Senate in which there's a lot of posturing."
What America doesn't want is this health care bill, and we don't want to hear anymore about it. There is nothing Obama needs to explain to us. We know the bill hasn't been read, and had it been read it was deceptive and dishonest: abortion in - abortion out, single payer in - single payer, death panels in - death panels out. We have been schooled in backroom manipulations , and we know whatever passes will be secretly amended. So start over, take some time with it, or get on with a reconciliation vote so that we show you real American rage, really is.

Yesterday, House Republican leadership sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel. In short, the letter asks if we come to the table:

 1) Is the President ready to start over, and if he is not, Republicans see the Senate Health Care Bill as a jobs killer.

2) Is the President ready to show good faith by declaring "reconciliation to pass the bill" off the table?

3) Will Democrats voting against your legislation be admitted to these bi-partisan meetings?

4) Will all legislation be available to Congress and the public 72 hours before a vote?

5) Will "officials and lawmakers" from individual states be invited - especially from those states which have pending legislation to disallow your mandated purchasing of government health care?

6) Among the "experts" the President says he wants to participate in this bi-partisan meeting, will those who currently say the Senate plan will raise, will the experts the Congressional Budget Office, and will Republicans be allowed to bring their own experts?

7) Will Unions and other special interest groups be invited to the televised bi-partisan meetings?

8) Will the President pledge that all future meetings be open, transparent and televised, including those on Capitol Hill?

9) And the letter expresses frustration at the Presidents continual accusations of Republican "obstruction," saying it was Republicans who first proposed bipartisan talks last May - and presented their plan - which was rudely ignored.

So, that my synopsis for a quick read. Here's the letter:
Dear Mr. Emanuel:

We welcome President Obama's announcement of forthcoming bipartisan health care talks.  In fact, you may remember that last May, Republicans asked President Obama to hold bipartisan discussions on health care in an attempt to find common ground, but he declined and instead chose to work with only Democrats.

Since then, the President has given dozens of speeches on health care reform, operating under the premise that the more the American people learn about his plan, the more they will come to like it.  Just the opposite has occurred: a majority of Americans oppose the House and Senate health care bills and want them scrapped so we can start over with a step-by-step approach focused on lowering costs for families and small businesses.  Just as important, scrapping the House and Senate health care bills would help end the uncertainty they are creating for workers and businesses and thus strengthen our shared commitment to focusing on creating jobs.
Assuming the President is sincere about moving forward on health care in a bipartisan way, does that mean he will agree to start over so that we can develop a bill that is truly worthy of the support and confidence of the American people?  Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said today that the President is "absolutely not" resetting the legislative process for health care.  If the starting point for this meeting is the job-killing bills the American people have already soundly rejected, Republicans would rightly be reluctant to participate.
Assuming the President is sincere about moving forward in a bipartisan way, does that mean he has taken off the table the idea of relying solely on Democratic votes and jamming through health care reform by way of reconciliation?  As the President has noted recently, Democrats continue to hold large majorities in the House and Senate, which means they can attempt to pass a health care bill at any time through the reconciliation process.  Eliminating the possibility of reconciliation would represent an important show of good faith to Republicans and the American people.

If the President intends to present any kind of legislative proposal at this discussion, will he make it available to members of Congress and the American people at least 72 hours beforehand?
Our ability to move forward in a bipartisan way through this discussion rests on openness and transparency.
Will the President include in this discussion congressional Democrats who have opposed the House and Senate health care bills?  This bipartisan discussion should reflect the bipartisan opposition to both the House bill and the kickbacks and sweetheart deals in the Senate bill.

Will the President be inviting officials and lawmakers from the states to participate in this discussion?  As you may know, legislation has been introduced in at least 36 state legislatures, similar to the proposal just passed by the Democratic-controlled Virginia State Senate, providing that no individual may be compelled to purchase health insurance.  Additionally, governors of both parties have raised concerns about the additional costs that will be passed along to states under both the House and Senate bills.
The President has also mentioned his commitment to have "experts" participate in health care discussions.  Will the Feb. 25 discussion involve such "experts?"  Will those experts include the actuaries at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), who have determined that the both the House and Senate health care bill raise costs - just the opposite of their intended effect - and jeopardize seniors' access to high-quality care by imposing massive Medicare cuts? Will those experts include the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, which has stated that the GOP alternative would reduce premiums by up to 10 percent?  Also, will Republicans be permitted to invite health care experts to participate?
Finally, as you know, this is the first televised White House health care meeting involving the President since last March.  Many health care meetings of the closed-door variety have been held at the White House since then, including one last month where a sweetheart deal was worked out with union leaders.  Will the special interest groups that the Obama Administration has cut deals with be included in this televised discussion?

Of course, Americans have been dismayed by the fact that the President has broken his own pledge to hold televised health care talks.  We can only hope this televised discussion is the beginning, not the end, of attempting to correct that mistake.  Will the President require that any and all future health care discussions, including those held on Capitol Hill, meet this common-sense standard of openness and transparency?
Your answers to these critical questions will help determine whether this will be a truly open, bipartisan discussion or merely an intramural exercise before Democrats attempt to jam through a job-killing health care bill that the American people can't afford and don't support.  'Bipartisanship' is not writing proposals of your own behind closed doors, then unveiling them and demanding Republican support.  Bipartisan ends require bipartisan means.

These questions are also designed to try and make sense of the widening gap between the President's rhetoric on bipartisanship and the reality.  We cannot help but notice that each of the President's recent bipartisan overtures has been coupled with harsh, misleading partisan attacks.
For instance, the President decries Republican 'obstruction' when it was Republicans who first proposed bipartisan health care talks last May.  The President says Republicans are 'sitting on the sidelines' just days after holding up our health care alternative and reading from it word for word.  The President has every right to use his bully pulpit as he sees fit, but this is the kind of credibility gap that has the American people so fed up with business as usual in Washington.
We look forward to receiving your answers and continuing to discuss ways we can move forward in a bipartisan manner to address the challenges facing the American people.
Sincerely,
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH)
House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA)

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs followed his reponse, representing the White House.

1) The President reached out in a bipartisan manner in March 2009.

2) He has continued to reach out

3) He has been very clear about his support of the House and Senate bills

4) He looks forward to reviewing Republican proposals

5) The President is open to "including any good ideas that stand up to objective scrutiny."

Neither Congress or the President find any Republican ideas that meet their scrutiny. It's that simple. This meeting is for show.

Fox News Michael Clemente Robert Gibbs Meet Privately

You know I hate this. No meetings between Fox and Robert Gibbs. How about complete separation of news and the White House? - except for the White House Correspondents Dinner. Just love those. Apparently, Michael Clemente and Robert Gibbs met and the question is: has a truce been reached?

Michael Clemente

This report says that Fox News Channel's Senior V-P, Michael Clemente, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs met in Gibbs' office in Washington, D.C. "Gibbs reached out to Clemente...." Nevertheless:
A Fox source said that the marching orders are to “continue doing what we’re doing – reporting the news, asking tough questions and providing analysis/opinion on shows like O’Reilly, Beck and Hannity.”
That's good news.

A U.S. News and World Report article quotes the White House:
"They're still at it," says a senior Obama aide, who adds that White House officials don't expect to fire another shot in the battle unless FOX strikes first."
There is no indication in U.S. News and World report that a meeting between Clemente and Gibbs occurred.

Valerie Jarrett, the other half of Barack's brain was interviewed on CNN. When Campbell Brown asked Jarrett if she thought Fox News was biased, Jarrett replied,  "of course Fox is biased," but she and the other half of her brain plan to keep speaking "truth to power." Her message was hilariously mixed. When Ms. Brown rewinds the tape, she'll find she let a good opportunity go to waste, although I give her credit for asking Jarrett the "biased' question twice. Read what else Jarrett had to say here.

Dick Cheney Robert Gibbs: Gibbs No Knowledge of the Bush Report

After accusing the Bush-Cheney administration of having no strategy for and handing over no strategy for Afghanistan, and claiming that the Obama team had to start "from scratch," to run the war, Dick Cheney answered that accusation.

In a pathetic answer back to Cheney's tough commentary, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs mocked Cheney. In retort to Cheney's advice that that Obama stop "dithering," Gibbs quoted Obama saying his responsibility to the men and women in uniform was a "solemn" one, intimating, I suppose, that it was not "a solemn" responsibility for the Bush administration. Gibbs further said that Bush and Cheney failed to keep "focus" in the Afghanistan war.

Speaking at a dinner at the Center for Security Policy, where he received the Keeper of the Flame award, Cheney spoke of exactly what was handed over the the White House:

In the fall of 2008, fully aware of the need to meet new challenges being posed by the Taliban, we dug into every aspect of Afghanistan policy, assembling a team that traveled to Pakistan and Afghanistan, reviewing options and recommendations, and briefing President-elect Obama’s team.

They asked us not to announce our findings publicly, and we agreed, giving them the benefit of our work and the benefit of the doubt. The new strategy they embraced in March, with a focus on counterinsurgency and an increase in the numbers of troops, bears a striking resemblance to the strategy we passed to them.

We have an ill-mannered bunch sitting in the White House once again. An outgoing administration gives an incoming administration their intense research on war, wants to publish their recommendations as they exit, and the new administration requests that the report not be published, then excoriates what was in the report.

Very convenient. Then you can deny what you knew. That's just what Robert Gibbs today.
Gibbs sidestepped a question about whether Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, who was tasked with assessing war strategy by the Bush administration, had filed a report with the recommendations Cheney mentioned.

"I have not looked at that review," Gibbs said. "I don't know whether what he describes is accurate."

I would think Gibbs should know that answer. Now we'll see how soon the question is followed up, and an answer is demanded.

Major Garrett Robert Gibbs: White House Email List (Video)

At 9:25 pm CDT, Major Garrett is on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. He is talking about today's White House Press conference where Garrett asks Gibbs about a mass emailing of a message from David Axelrod to voters. See the video below. See Update below.

Major Garrett
Garrett wants to know how the list was assembled and determined. Gibbs maintains that the people who received the email, signed up to do so. Garrett says he has emails from people who received Axelrod's email who did not sign up "for "anything related to this White House , to Senator Obama as a candidate, or Obama as anything." Gibbs wants to see the emails. Garrett says he doesn't have permission to turn the list over to the White House. Tonight on Greta, Major Garrett has said he now has permission and is waiting to hear back from Gibbs. (I heard a few words about "Freedom of Information Act). On Greta, Garrett says the communication from Axelrod was 8 White House priorities for health care, clearing up myths, defining principle goals for health care, etc. This is a very interesting exchange. I haven't given it all away in the above dialog.

White House Dissident Database: Health Care...What's Next?

In a comment this morning online, I mentioned that the White House seems unconcerned about asking us to "flag" anyone they find with dissenting information on the Obama administration's health care reform. Robert Gibbs, the White House Press Secretary tags us as liars and then lies about what will be done about the names that are flagged. See video below. The Presidential Records Act requires that all correspondence with the White House be kept - forever. In the video below, Gibbs refuses to acknowledge that truth, or he acknowledges it and then denies it. Gibbs also has the gaul to say that the videos of some years ago of Obama saying he was a proponent of "single payer health care" was "spliced together." From the White House press room, Gibbs calls us liars. While many of us have had a good time "flagging ourselves," and explaining to the President exactly why we are concerned about health care, we must wonder what is next? Will flagging morph into dissent over taxes, dissent over government motors, dissent over the Mexico City Policy. Just what will conservatives be flagged for? Think about the possibilities the White House might see, with our names flooding into the office of Rahm Emanuel. Byron York points out that the Freedom of Information Act does not extend to the White House - which means the information gathered is not required to be released, if requested through the FOIA

In addition, the lawyers say the collected emails likely will be covered by the Presidential Records Act, which requires the White House to preserve and maintain its records for permanent storage in a government database. Phillips' request suggests that whatever information the White House receives on health-care reform "disinformation" will be used to further the goal of passing a national health-care makeover, which is, of course, one of the president's main policy initiatives. Such material, and whatever the White House does with it, would qualify as presidential records. Only after more than a decade would such records be publicly available.
"So the White House, whether by design or accident, has requested information from the public that will become 'records' under the Presidential Records Act, yet would be impermissible for any government to otherwise collect under the Privacy Act," writes one Judiciary Committee source. "Where were the lawyers in all of this? What is their legal basis for authorizing the collection of these records?"
Where are all the Democrats who scream about privacy? It is not much of a stretch that names have already been forwarded on all manner of dissent. You know how Liberals are. While we had some fun with this, it may not be a laughing matter. Both Jake Tapper and Major Garrett ask important questions in this video. A White House dissident database is not what America is about.
