Rachel Maddow Steve Stockman: Stockman Received Prior Notice of OKC Bombing Says Maddow

Rachel Maddow accused a woman now dead, of being a member of a militia, as if that is unlawful and egregious, and then claimed that then-Republican Texas Representative Steve Stockman received written information of the Oklahoma City Bombing prior to the disaster that killed 168 people, including 19 children and babies, and injured hundreds. And worse, she said Stockman faxed the information to the NRA, but not the FBI. See the video below.

...Mr. Stockman actually received advanced notice that the Oklahoma City bombing was going to happen. 

MADDOW: Yes, this has happened to a smaller degree before. In 1994, in the first mid-term election after the last Democratic president was elected, we got a slate of candidates that included Helen Chenoweth of Idaho and Steve Stockman of Texas. These two were so close to the militia movement in this country that Mr. Stockman actually received advance notice that the Oklahoma City bombing was going to happen.

A bit of Internet research showed this by Jim Simmon writing for the Houston Press on June 22, 1995.

Contrary to suggestions in some initial reports, Stockman's office had received the fax after the bombing and promptly passed it on to the FBI (ironically, the initial misunderstanding about the fax was propagated by the National Rifle Association, Stockman's chief patron).

I live in Oklahoma and knew nothing of this story. This intrigued me: according to NewsBuster's Jack Coleman, the fax said this:

According to the Morning News, a hand-written message on the fax read, "First update. Bldg 7 to 10 floors only. Military people on scene -- BATF/FBI. Bomb threat received last week. Perpetrator unknown at this time. Oklahoma." The machine that sent the fax to Stockman stamped "Wolverine" at the top of the page, the Morning News reported. 

 Militias are not everyone's cup of tea, and anarchist militias are certainly not acceptable, but we must remember that militias are a guaranteed right under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution - for a very good reason: it is not impossible that our government might seek to take control in an unconstitutional manner. The Second Amendment allows militias to be our guardians.

Having said all that, I don't know about Stockman's militia connections, but it does seem that now, in 2010, trying to tie him to the deaths of those murdered in the Murrah Building in 1995, is a particularly cruel and highly improper thing to do. One thing we is, every word out of Maddow's mouth is calculated and measured. She knew what she was doing.

I'm not sure what the implication of evoking Helen Chenoweth is about. She was a Republican Representative from Idaho from 1995 to January 2001. She died in an automobile accident in 2006, while a passenger in the back seat of a car that flipped and ejected her on a Nevada road. She apparently did have militia connections - but again, there is nothing illegal there. One interesting thing about Chenoweth, in 2003 she attempted to board a flight to her Nevada home. TSA "selected" her for a hand search. She refused and drove a rental car to get to her destination, and made this statement:

"Our borders are wide open and yet they're shaking down a 66-year-old white grandmother they greeted by name," she said of the incident. "It's time the American people say no to this kind of invasion. It's a question of personal privacy. There shouldn't be that kind of search without reasonable cause."

So a defenseless dead woman has been placed in the same company as a person Maddow alleges hid prior knowledge of the Oklahoma City bombing. Is there anything we can expect from MSNBC about this - like a reprimand, an apology to the family of Chenoweth and to Stockman, a firing? No, I don't think so. These are despicable people. Maxine Waters Blames Bush for Ethics Woes

Maxine Waters, following the strategy of Charlie Rangel, held a rambling 90-minute press conference at a time when the House of Representatives is on hiatus. Waters is defending herself on charges of inappropriately intervening with the U.S. Treasury on behalf of her husband and OneUnitedBank in which he owns stock. Waters said she had to do it because the Treasury (in the Bush administration) would not schedule the appointment without her influence.

Waters' defense:

"The question at this point should not be why I called Secretary Paulson, but why I had to," she said. "The question at this point should be why a trade association representing over 100 minority banks could not get a meeting at the height of the crisis."

OneUnitedBank received $12 million of the requested $50 million TARP bailout.

Maxine's grandson, Mikael Moore, is her Chief-of-Staff and it seems his emails are a point of contention with the Ethics Committee. 

The report highlights e-mails Moore sent and received from OneUnited executives and suggests Waters should not have allowed him to send them when her family had a specific financial stake in the bank. The congresswoman has said she was aiding a group of minority banks that includes OneUnited.

Waters did not attend the eventual meeting between Treasury and the National Banking Association, but here grandson and Chief-of-Staff did.

The Washington Post wryly says (or maybe not so wryly) this scandal is "not expected to affect her ability to win reelection in her heavily Democratic district." Can we blame her habitual presence in The People's House on George W. Bush?

Charles Djou Honolulu Republican: Charles Djou is Republican US House Candidate for Hawaii 1st District

Charles Djou will face a yet-unknown Democrat opponent for a U.S. House seat from Hawaii's 1st District. In March, he won a special election for a vacated House seat with the term ending with this session of Congress, unless he wins the National Election in November 2010. Update March and May 2010:
Charles Djou won Hawaii's special election in March 2010 and is serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. His win broke a streak of six Democrat wins for the 1st District, making him the first Republican to go to the House in 20 years, and only the second Republican from Hawaii to serve.

In the special election, Democrat Colleen Hanabusa was the second runner-up, and will likely be Djou's opponent in November. Hanabusa and her faction were Hillary Clinton backers. Ed Case and his faction were Barack Obama supporters. There is intense disunity between the Democrats.

Typical of a Liberal, Hanabusa did not congratulate Djou in her concession speech.

Update July 2, 2010:
In April, Hanabusa was slightly ahead of Djou in fundraising. By May Djou had a lead. Hanabusa supporting, Senator Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) has been raising money for her. Democrats will not give up Barack Obama's home district easily. Keep Mr. Djou in mind as you make your election donations.

Djou won the special election. Mr. Djou is running against Democrats, former US Rep. Ed Case, and Hawaii Senate President Colleen Hanabusa. Note in the second video below, Djou says "...unlike Ed Case and Colleen Hanabusa, I've never voted for a tax increase or supported wasteful government spending." Djou has received Mitt Romney's endorsement, and the RNC has hosted a fundraiser for him.

Mr. Djou graduated Punahou School (Oahu College) as did Barack Obama. He is an Army Reserve officer (Captain) and an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii. He is a Rotarian and is has served on the Board of Directos of the american Lung Association. He was named "Legislator of the Year" by small Business Hawaii in 2002, 2004, and 2006.

Djou is married and he and his wife, Stacey Kawasaki Djou have three children.

Bill Clinton Goes Rogue: Bill Clinton Backs Incumbent Challenger to White House Pick

Bill Clinton has gone rogue and endorsed Andrew Romanoff, the Democrat challenger to Colorado's Senator Michael Bennet. Romanoff has been in the news lately, as he says the White House offered him other jobs if he would drop his challenge to Bennet. Don't confuse these claims of White House bribes with Joe Sestak. Romanoff is the second claim of such illegal shenanigans.

This report says Romanoff is the first candidate Bill Clinton has endorsed since leaving the White House. While Clinton didn't endorse Senator Blanche Lincoln, he campaigned with her, and is credited with giving her a second chance to come up for air and face the Republican candidate in November.

A SurveyUSA poll taken this month suggested that Mr. Romanoff has an uphill battle against Mr. Bennet, who was appointed to his seat after Ken Salazar became Interior Secretary. Mr. Bennet registered 52 per cent support in the poll compared to just 36 per cent for Mr. Romanoff.

So for Bill Clinton to step out and endorse a candidate who is not an incumbent is huge mammoth when you consider the White House did everything they could to remove Andrew Romanoff from the horizon of the U.S. Senate. Things must be getting a bit testy for Hillary.

Andrew brings to this race both an extraordinary record of public service and an extraordinary capacity to lead. I believe that those assets, as well as his deep commitment to Colorado, give him the best chance to hold this seat in November," Mr. Clinton wrote. "I support Andrew Romanoff, and I hope you will too."

Don't forget, Obama sent Bill Clinton to Rep. Joe Sestak to make the illegal bribe, which Sestak did not take, but spilled to the press. Romanoff has already received his bribes and refused them.

If Bill can pull this off, he and Hillary will seriously be considering another White House run in 2010. It is always about Bill, and going rogue for Bill Clinton is nothing new.

This is just too good. Nancy Pelosi is asking supporters to donate NOW to help prevent "subpoenas and investigations" resulting from a GOP majority. I'll say that again: Pelosi sees a House GOP majority coming at her fast, and she is in full-panic mode.

Mama Pelosi is just trying to protect Barack Obama, but could she also be personally concerned? Remember the Eric Massa scandal? Remember Air Pelosi and the abuse of her air force plane - her family riding - without her, in fact without anyone from the House traveling? How about Nancy's own personal 'torture' scandal...calling the CIA liars even though tapes clearly show she is the liar. How about the "dirty deals, open threats, broken promises and disregard for democracy that pushed ObamaKare through the deeply flawed U.S. House of Representatives. Healthcare was purchased with domestic terrorism.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not counting the seats before they're won, but Pelosi might be. I wonder if she takes an aspirin a day?

Oklahoma Delegation to Vote No on Puerto Rican Democracy Act

I have contacted each member of the Oklahoma delegation about the Puerto Rican Democracy Act, H.R. 2499. The bill is still being debated. I believe it is safe to say, the Oklahoma delegation will vote against the bill. Rep. Cole's office wasn't completely clear and Rep. Fallin will not be available to vote. Have you called your delegation? There's still time, and believe me, Congress is recording your opinion.

According to their offices:

Rep. Dan Boren (D) will vote not to pass the bill as we know it.

Rep. Tom Cole (R) no definite answer. Cole has not yet made up his mind, but a spokesman said it is possible that the bill will be gutted. I believe the intimation was, if the bill can be gutted, the Congressman might be a "Yes" vote, which concludes that he is against the bill as we know it.

Rep. Mary Fallin (R) is out of the office with an emergency root canal, but her office is tallying the opinions of voters.

Rep. Frank Lucas (R) is voting against the bill as we know it.

Rep. John Sullivan (R) is voting against the bill as we know it.

Pelosi: Cafeteria Green Lights Takes 10 Years to Repay

 Pelosi actually called a press conference to announce that the lights in the House cafeteria have been replaced with light fixtures of the "green" persuasion (meaning they will save us money and energy use). She spent $140,000 of your money and mine for the fixtures, and expects it to take 10 years before the lights 'pay for themselves' or to put it another way, there will be no return on our investment for at least 10 years.

Ayers said that the price had come down from $800 per fixture to $300, meaning that the lights would theoretically pay for themselves in less than 10 years, due to estimated reductions in electricity usage.

This was termed a "significant savings" that provides a "good return on investment." Is this what we are teaching in our Business School?"

Acorn Funding Ban Reinstated: Gershon Order Stayed: No Money for Acorn

The U.S. Court of Appeals Second Circuit has temporarily overridden Judge Nina Gershon's order to reinstate Congressional funding of ACORN. After ACORN was outed in the "Pimp and "Prostitute undercover stories, Congress defunded the organization, which was shown to be willing to provide advice on how the "pimp and the prostitute," visiting numerous ACORN offices across the United States, could hide income from the IRS in an operation to smuggle 13-year-old girls into the country for prostitution.

After Congress yanked their funds, ACORN sued. Gershon reinstated the money machine, and our tax money began flowing to this outrageous organization again. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals will now further review the case, but the money will be stopped immediately (whatever "immediately" means in Congress).

Today, Rep. Darrell Issa, the ranking member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and Judiciary Committee Member announced that the funding has once more been stopped -- but temorarily.

"I applaud the Court of Appeals for immediately addressing the effects of judge Gershon's attempt to legislate from the bench. Today's action immediately restores the congressionally mandated ban on funding ACORN and its affiliates as a result of their criminal conduct and wasting of taxpayer dollars. Congress has the constitutional right to deny an organization the benefit of taxpayer dollars.

With today's action by the Appeals Court, the Obama Administration must take immediate steps to re-implement the funding ban for ACORN Congress put in to law. In recent months, ACORN has undergone a rebranding campaign to disguise itself and its affiliates. As a result, the White House and all federal agencies must be extremely vigilant to ensure that rebranded organizations who have continued to make deals and maintain connections to ACORN don't receive taxpayer dollars."

A strong United States is a strong free world. A weak United States empowers terrorists and dictators everywhere. Like Ronald Reagan, I believe in "peace through strength."

Immigration: 

Illegal immigration is illegal. Period. It is simply not acceptable, but addressing the problem is a challenge.

• Secure our borders!
• Deport any illegal immigrant who is convicted of committing a crime.
• Create an illegal immigrant database.
• Empower law enforcement to check immigration status on all arrests.
• Incentivize illegal immigrants who come forward within 90 days to embark on the legal citizenship course via temporary "trial citizenship" status.
• Disqualify illegal immigrants from many of the benefits offered to US citizens and legal immigrants.

Abortion - Sanctity of Life:

Life is precious and I believe in the sanctity of human life at all stages.

• Our Seniors and the Vulnerable must be protected as strongly as the unborn
• The track towards Socialized Medicine by the Federal Governent is a direct threat to the quality and quantity of life for our Seniors and those most vulnerable.
• Taxpayers should not be forced into funding abortions
• Partial birth abortions are no t acceptable under any circumstances
• While Roe v. Wade is still in effect, abortions on demand must be replaced by education, counseling and waiting periods to offer women alternative choices to abortions.

Public Office Ethics/Standards:

Elected officials on all levels have consistently breached the trust of the american people. This simply must stop!

Solutions

• End earmarks unrelated to the bills under consideration
• Require that all bills be read and understood by public officials prior to any vote
• Post all major legislation online for seven day voter review period
• Stronger penalties for ethical breaches by public officials
• Revisit campaign finance reform legislation.

Congress Exempt from Health Care Should be Illegal under a 28th Amendment

Barack Obama, a Constitutional attorney, signed health care into law despite the 28th Amendment. Some Congressional staffers are exempted from health care as well. Health care is illegal under the 28th Amendment, OR SHOULD BE.

You've seen the emails all over the place to adopt a 28th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States that reads as follows:

Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens  of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.

Why The Senate Bill Funds Abortions: Bart Stupaks Abortion Bait and Switch

Most of us didn't question Rep. Bart Stupak's (D-MI) commitment to unfunded taxpayer abortions - especially after he talked about it for days, but shame on us. We should have known better. These are Democrats, and they know not of principled commitment. But it was not just Stupak who chased after a way to vote for the bill. In fact, in the end, Stupak was of no concern to Nancy Pelosi. She had cut bait and moved to more lucrative waters - a coalition of about 30 Democrats who late on March 19th worked a deal to support their regional areas - mainly the hospitals, and they didn't care about abortion. Neither did most Democrats, despite the lies Stupak boldly spoke to the Nation.

Republicans asked for a "motion to recommit,"...language similar to Stupak's, ensuring no public funded abortions, be added to the bill before voting. That was not going to happen, even though Stupak knew the President's Executive Order was worthless.  See the roll call vote on the motion here. From the floor of the House, just before the vote on the Senate health care bill, Stupak called the Republican "motion to recommit," "disingenuous," and said this:

...it is the Democrats who have stood up for the principle of no public funding for abortion," he said on the House floor, 

Only 64 Democrats voted for his amendment. All but one Republican voted for the amendment. It was only due to Republican votes that Stupak's amendment made it into the bill. Henry Hyde, the author of the Hyde amendment was a Republican. Talk about "disingenuous." The myth of Pro-Life Democrats exposed. See this in the first video below.

But Rep. Stupak never planned to vote against health care, regardless of taxpayer funded abortions. In the second video from last Fall, at 1:29 minutes in, he tells constituents that if he has to accept federally funded abortions to have Democrat health care, he will do so, and still stay true to his principles. Hear the audience's abhorrent reaction.

So, who do we believe? Is there language in the Senate bill that allows for taxpayer-funded abortions?  Here is the explanation:

In this video, Stupak explained why the Hyde amendment did not apply to the Senate bill:

 [Senate legislation] is not subject to the annual appropriations law and therefore is not subject to the Hyde provisions contained in the annual labor HHS bill. The only way to provide Hyde protection of no public funding for abortion in the health insurance option and subsidies in the form of affordability credit found in the bill is to insert the Hyde amendment into this legislation...

This from the United States conference of Catholic Bishops further clarifies: the key is that the new monies in the bill, are not appropriated by funds restricted by the Hyde amendment:

The Senate bill authorizes and appropriates billions of dollars in new funding -- outside the scope of the appropriations bill covered by the Hyde amendment...These funds are new, and over he next five years they will be provided without being appropriated in the Labor/HHS appropriations act; therefore they are not covered by the Hyde amendment, which says only funds "appropriated in the Act...may not be used for elective abortions.

Parker Griffith Brian Wilson: Asking for Sacrifice when Obama and Pelosi Don't Know Their Names

Just watched an interview on FOXNews with Brian Wilson and Rep. Parker Griffith (R-AL). Griffith says there is much tension on the floor of the House. "Good men and women" are being asked to sacrifice when "Barack Obama" doesn't even know their names, Nancy Pelosi barely knows their names. The next morning, the question is: Will You Love Me Tomorrow.

Sean Duffy Sarah Palin: Palin Endorses Sean Duffy: TVs Sean Duffy Challenges Dave Obey

Sean Duffy is challenging Congressman Dave Obey (D-WI) for his Wisconsin 7th District House seat. Duffy, a Real World Boston TV participant some 13 years ago, has received the endorsement of former Governor Sarah Palin, who says Duffy is a "solid fiscal conservative."

Duffy, 38, a former 1997 Real-World-Boston contestant, is currently serving as Ashland County's DA. Palin endorsed him on Facebook, and now Duffy has the distinction of raising more campaign money than any recent Obey challenger.

Dave Obey, referred to by Palin as a "Liberal Goliath," introduced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 - also known as the Stimulus Bill.

Duffy is married to Rachel Campos-Duffy and they have 5 children - a 6th is on the way.  Mrs. Duffy is a columnist for Parentdish.com. Sean is the tenth of eleven children, born and raised in Hayward, Wisconsin. He is a three-time world Lumberjack champion, and began the sport at the age of 5. His first world champsionship came at age 18. In 2004 he named the Honorary Athlete of the Wisconsin Badger Games, and he paid for a portion of college and law school by appearing in the Scheer's Lumberjack Show. Duffy says he cuts his own wood every fall, has and tends a vegetable garden, likes to iron his own shirts and his favorite movie is Braveheart.

In contrast to his Democrat opponent who has held his seat since 1969, Duffy says "he was a congressman during Woodstock." Duffy had not yet been born when Obey took office.

Medicare Doughnut Hole Gets $250 in new Health Care Bill. Big Dang Deal!

Remember the many speeches about that terrible doughnut hole (the gap) that Seniors reach when their prescription drugs reach a certain dollar amount? Remember the dedication of Liberals to do away with the gap, or make it smaller? Well, they are doing just that. The government will give you $250 toward your expenses incurred in the gap period. Source: CNN

Friends, that is laughable! The average Senior pays $4,350 in out-of-pocket prescription costs. My mother and mother-in-law have this happen every year. It costs them far more than $250 to get to the other side, and neither of them are on a long list of drugs. Neither of them complain - much. They pay it, and they sacrifice to do so, because the Medicare benefits they receive for other medical care are substantial.

President Obama's proposed healthcare reform fix would close the Medicare Part D "doughnut hole," crack down on "pay-for-delay" deals on generics and hike fees on branded drugs. February 22, 2010. 

The Democrats and President Obama have been clear that the "doughnut hole" as the gap is known, would disappear gradually over the next 10 years. They have not mentioned that Medicare patients would, according to House figures, face a slightly larger hole in coverage during two of the next three years than they do today.

The doughnut hole is in the prescription Medicare plan because when the bill was passed, the government could not afford to close it. "The government" cannot afford any of the Liberal mandated health care coming our way, and the doughnut hole has nothing to do with "indefensible injustice" for America's seniors.

Bart Stupak: Pelosi 16 Votes Short - at least: House GOP to Force vote on Slaughter Rule

Here's a jumble of thoughts regarding passing health care. In Rep. Bart Stupak's interview with Greta Van Susteren, said he "would be surprised if Pelosi has "200 votes." If he's right, she is 16 votes short. The Weekly Standard says Obama took his talking points from them when he told Democrats "We need courage," since he is not on the ballot in November, and further, he voted "present" nearly 130 times as a state legislator and... ...never, as a U.S. senator, took on any powerful interest group in his own party.

One of her mindbursts suggested in an email that all the Democrat "no" voters on health care tell Pelosi they will vote "yes," spurring her to call for the vote. Then they vote "no." Ding Dong the Bill is Dead! This is real courage and Democrats, by showing that courage and following the President's call for it, can claim it as their own in November, and probably have a chance at keeping their seat. Without that courage, they'll have no chance. Sounds like a plan to me, Larwyn.

Mary Katherine Ham at The Weekly Standard says the following is a resolution they will introduce today to force a vote on the legality of the Slaughter Rule. Snippet:

Resolved, That the Committee on Rules may not report a rule or order that provides for disposition of the Senate amendments to H.R. 3590, an Act entitled The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, unless such rule or order provides for—

(1) at least one hour of debate, equally divided and controlled by the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader, or their designees; and

(2) a requirement that the Speaker put the question on disposition of the Senate amendments and that the yeas and nays be considered as ordered thereon.

And, we all know how fond the Democratic caucus is of an up-or-down vote.

I heard Rep. Jim Clyburn this morning on FOXNews talking about the Slaughter Rule. He said 60 people had already voted on the Senate bill, so there was no reason for the House to do so. They could legally 'deem' that the House had done so, and he saw no problem with it. See the Clyburn video here. Here's the Van Susteren and Stupak video.
