GW Bush Slams the Ball Home at World Series

Former President G. W. Bush threw out the first pitch of Game 4 at the World Series, and while the final result is difficult for me to see just how perfect the pitch was, you can hear Nolan Ryan walk up and say "nice going." For further verification, Gateway Pundit says it was "a strike to home plate," with Ryan catching, and Karen at The Lonely Conservative declaring it "perfect - right over the plate.

Bull Jumps Crowd Two Videos

This amazing video shows a bull leaping into the crowd in Tafalla, Spain. He jumps on, tramples the audience and gored at least one person. See the video below.

Why would the bull do this?

The incident happened during an event in which people try to provoke the bull to charge them.

The bull had already jumped twice into the alley surrounding the ring, police said. After damaging a horn, it was about to be returned to the corral when it escaped.

A 47-year-old man who was gored in the back was among half a dozen spectators taken by ambulance to the hospital at Pamplona, home to the San Fermín bull runs.

I don't get the attraction of bull-fighting. I was present when a famous Spanish soccer player was gored in the ring. If you can believe it, Americans who part of my travel group, actually rushed into the ring and saved the soccer player. It was bloody, emotional and frightening. Jancy Thompson Norman Havercroft: Swimmer Jancy Thompson Sues USA Swimming Coach Havercroft

Jancy Thompson, a swimmer with USA Swimming has filed a sexual harrassment and abuse lawsuit against one of the organization's swim coaches, Norman Havercroft, and the governing body of USA Swimming. If you are the parent of a competitive swimmer, you will want to see the video below.  See update below:

Thompson charges "groping," "engaging in sexual acts," "providing pornography" and "buying an Internet camera for cyber sex." Sounds like rape or attempted rape to me. Thompson was 15 when the behavior began and continued until age 18 on the premises of several swim clubs, in Havercroft's and her own home for a period of 5 years. The suit also alleges another female as abused and that USA Swimming was aware of it and did nothing.

"I was robbed of my childhood and never performed to my full capabilities," she told the Associated Press. "I want to ensure that no one has to endure what I went through and carry such a burden the rest of their lives."

...the San Jose Police Department and the Santa Clara County district attorney's office investigated claims of abuse by the other female and brought no criminal charges against Havercroft. 

ESPN Swimming reports the case of the second female charging abuse ended in a confidential settlement.

The suit announced Wednesday is one of several around the country alleging USA Swimming covered up wrongdoing and allowed a culture of abuse to exist in coaching ranks. The lawsuit also names the West Valley Swim Club and Pacific Swimming, the West Coast branch of USA Swimming....

The swim club is scrambling to add new protective measures for their swimmers. No word on whether or not Havercroft is still an employee of USA Swimming.

Update 8/14/10:
After posting this article a few more details have been made public.

Her coach even humiliated her at practice by making her wear a dog collar with a leash attached to it, which her coach held while she swam laps at the pool, Thompson says.

Elin Nordgren Divorces Tiger: Elin Woods $750 Million Settlement

The early reports that Elin was positioning for a $750 million divorce settlement were spot-on. Elin is divorcing Tiger Woods, and he is banned from bringing skanky or non-skanky women around her children. Watch for updates.

This report says she has "sole physical custody" but they will split legal custody of their two children. There will be no women around her children until and unless Tiger marries, and in her lifetime or his, she cannot speak of the girlfriends and her ex's repugnant behavior - no interviews, no books, no TV appearances at anytime, even if Tiger meets his demise first.

I'm betting Tiger will be back with Rachel Uchitel before his next tee time.

Tiger Bodyguard Thinks Spectator is Joslyn James

A spectator on the grounds of the August National watching practice rounds was approached by one of Tiger's 90+ bodyguards and accused of being porn star Joslyn James.

The guard, working from a photograph of the huge breasted, dead-beat mom, Joslyn James aka Veronica Swik-Daniels, asked the unnamed woman:

"Excuse me, ma'am - are you the stripper?" The fan was left speechless until the guard realized his gaffe and apologized.

The spectator said she didn't know whether to be flattered or insulted. I think I'd sue.

Obama at Nationals Park: Ball High - Really High and Outside Video

Barack Obama, fulfilling a 100 years old tradition, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Nationals Park today. Taking the mound wearing a red Washington Nationals jacket, personalized with his name on one shoulder and...you know how the man loves the Presidential Seal..., the seal on the other shoulder, donned a Chicago White Sox cap at the very last minute to the roar of the crowd.

Tiger Woods made his long-awaited "statement" of sorrow today at the PGA headquarters in Ponte Vedro, Florida. There are many transcripts available online, but none of the transcripts I am seeing, represent what Tiger actually said. I listened to the speech and typed away as he spoke. I don't have every word, but I am close, and especially close to the spirit of his words. So below are my transcribed notes, which may be paraphrased, at times. See a video below. See update below.

Good morning and thank you for joining me.

Many of you in this room are my friends and know me, many of you have cheered for me, worked with me and supported me.

Now everyone of you has reason to be critical of me, I want to say to each of you, simply and directly, I am very sorry for my irresponible behavior.

How could I be so selfish and foolish? How could I have done this to my wife, Elin and my children?

Elin and I have begun the process of examining the damage done by my behavior. My real apology to her will come from my behavior over time. What we say to each other will be between us.

I am aware that my behavior is hurt you. I'm deeply sorry my behavior has been a personal disappointment for those of you who work for me. I have let you down and let down my sponsors and most importantly to the young students we reach. This work [with children] remains unchanged. Millions of kids have changed their lives and I am dedicated to making sure this continues.

I am aware that I have bitterly disappointed you. I am embarassed that I have put you in this position, and for all that I have done, I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for, but there is one issue I want to discuss:

Reports are that my wife hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving me. Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been domestic violence in our marriage. Elin has enormous grace and deserves praise, not blame.

I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable. I stopped living by the core values I was taught. I thought I had worked hard and the rules did not apply to me.  I ran through the boundaries that married people live by. i thought I had worked hard and was entitled. Because of money and fame, I didn't have to go far to find them. I brought the shame on myself. I hurt my wife, my kids, my mother, my wife's family, and children around the world who admired me. My failures made me look at my self.

Making amnends means never repeating the same mistakes. I once heard, it is not what you achieve in life that matters, its what you overcome.

Charac and decency are what really count. It's hard to admit that I need help. For 45 days from the end of December 2009, I was in in-patient therapy. I have a long way to go but I'm taking my first steps in the right direct.

I understand the press wants to know the answers to many questions. Everyone of these questions and answers are between Elin and me. Some people have made up things. False things: that I have used performance enhancing drugs. That is false.

I feel it is right to shield my family. When my children were born, we released phtos so the papparazzi so they would not chase us, but they followed my daughter to school. They followed my mom. I recognize I brought this on my self, and I am the one that must change.
My focus is to become a better man. I intend to dedicate myself to it.

I was raised a Buddhist. My mother taught me. I must stop following every impulse. Obviously I lost track of what I was taught. I will continue to receive help because that is how I can bring about change. Tomorrow i will leave for more thereapy. I thank the players in the field for understanding why I made this statement today. I need to be balanced so that I can make the changes I need to make.

I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don't know when that day will be. I do not rule out that it will be this year. When i do return, I need to be more respectful to the game. I look forward to being with my fellow players

It was rumored that Michael Jordan would be present, but there was little panning of the audience - so that is still an open question.

Veronica Siwik-Daniels, one of Woods' alleged mistresses and a former pornographic performer, watched the event with her attorney in a Los Angeles radio studio. She said she wants an apology for the unwanted attention the scandal has brought her.

"I really feel I deserve to look at him in person face to face in the eyes because I did not deserve this," she said.

Elin's mother and father refused to comment.

Tiger Woods will return to golf "within days" according his website and will sit down with his golfing peers, in front of a TV camera and "make a statement." Updates as available.

According to a statement on Tiger's website, he will speak at 11 AM EST on Friday, February 19th in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse:

Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates at 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future, and he plans to apologize for his behavior.

While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between him and his wife, he also recognizes that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him. He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends, and that's what he's going to discuss.

His remarks will be open to a press pool for live coverage. It is NOT a news conference.

Speculations are hot and fast about when he will return to golf.

Rogue Waves on California Beaches Video: Half Moon Bay Mavericks Beach Wave Leaves Broken Bones

Hundreds of people on a seawall at Mavericks Beach, California were hit with a massive 20' rogue wave, crashing into the wall and knocking people off of their feet.The Mavericks Surf Contest went on anyway. See two videos below.

More than a dozen people suffered broken legs, arms and hands, and at least one had a punctured lung after being hit by the 20" swell.

Then it happened again as high tide came in, as officials tried to clear the shoreline, but their speaker system was washed out to sea:

Waves up to six feet high also knocked over barricades, a spectator stand and scaffolding holding loudspeakers that were broadcasting the contest.

 ...two more rogue breakers hit the shore, knocking down more spectators and causing others to flee in panic. Nobody was injured or swept out to sea in the second bout of tidal chaos, but spectators did lose cameras, mobile phones, and backpacks.

 A man on a beach near Carmel, California was swept out to sea while swimming yesterday. He has not been found. A woman walking with friends at shoreline on Sharp Park Beach in Pacifica was carried out to sea. She was recovered, but died in-hospital.

The Mavericks Surf Contest, the most lucrative surf contest in the world paid a purse of $150,000 to South African, Chris Bertish who said "I took the worse beating of my life out there.

Daniel Lund Lifeguard Tried to Save Stephen Schafer from Shark Attack

How much courage does it take to plunge your surfboard into a swarm of sharks to save a man? I don't know that we will ever have that answer, but think about it. Daniel Lund is a lifeguard at Stuart Beach, Florida in Martin County. Stephen Schafer was in trouble about 500 yards from shore. Through binoculars, Lund could see Schafer hanging onto his kiteboard. See a video of Mr. Lund below, and hear his own shark-bite story.

Mr. Lund, 47, said he paddled 20 mintues through waves 4'-6' tall, and eventually could see blood in the water and sharks circling. He went for Shafer anyway - extraordinary bravery:

I get to him, I'm probably within 20 yards or so from him, and there's just a lot of blood in the water," Lund told the AP. He could see several sharks circling nearby.

According to the incident report, Schafer was screaming that a shark had bit him.
Lund said he pulled Schafer onto his board and headed back to the beach. The lifeguard declined to describe Schafer's injuries, but said he was conscious and speaking when they got to the beach and paramedics began treating him.

Witnesses who saw the drama unfold said that the paramedics were powerless to save Schafer.

While this is Martin County, Florida's first death from shark attack, the International Shark Attack File, says surfers and wind sufers "made up approximately 57% of shark attacks worldwide in 2008." Florida has reported only 14 deaths by shark in the state's history. I hope Mr. Lund receives due recognition from his community.




Daniel Lund - Lifeguard tried to Save Stephen Schafer (video)

Joel Branstrom Basketball Coach Sinks Ball Half-Court, Blindfolded, Dizzy

Women's basketball coach, Joel Branstrom at Olathe Northwest, Ks, made the impossible shot from half-court, blindfolded, and dizzy. Update 1-27-10: Coach Branstrom and his family are going to the NCAA Final Four. See the second video below.

Students wanted to prank their coach, who is also a Science teacher, but got pranked themselves. They told him he would win NCAA tickets if he made the shot blindfolded. The crowd was prompted to cheer wildly when he missed, knowing that it was an impossible shot.  But...he made it, and made it nicely. Students were stunned. There were never any tickets to the NCAA because no one thought Coach Branstrom could make it happen. Oh well...they bought him a gift certificate at a Mexican restaurant.

I’ve been around long enough and done these kinds of practical jokes,” said Branstrom, who also teaches biology at the suburban Kansas City school. “I figured they were trying to punk me.”

Before launching the shot, Branstrom figured he was about to be hit in the face with a pie, so he held the ball up as protection for a few seconds.

“I knew they would cheer regardless to make me think I hit it,” Branstrom said. “I let it go, they cheered, I heard laughter. I seriously didn’t know I made it for a while.”

If anyone out there has an extra seat at the Final Four, the Olathe Northwest students would be grateful if you would share it with their coach.

Women's Groups Attack Tim Tebow and Mother for Pro-Life Super Bowl Ad

Women's groups are attacking Tim Tebow for a pro-life ad to air during the Super Bowl. The ad was purchased by Focus on the Family, with the theme Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life. Tim will appear with his mother Pam, who made the decision not to abort her baby, Tim, during a difficult pregnancy...and that baby grew up to be a great Florida Gator quarterback. NOW (National Organization for Women) has also voiced their objections. The following quote is from Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women's Media Center.

“An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year - an event designed to bring Americans together,”

The pressure is on CBS to refuse to air the ad. So much for free speech. You have a healthy young man, standing beside his mother, talking about (maybe - haven't seen it) how much it means to him that his mother gave him life - and the ad isn't worthy to be seen? Much of the disdain for the ad is pointed toward Focus on the Family, a "Christian" group that is a magnet for Liberal abuse.

The point is, every woman has a choice by law, but when life is the choice, the sharks come out to feed. Tim Tebow has choices, and one of those choices is to make his own decisions about the morality of aborting a baby. He has the right to make the ad, and when it airs, it will speak the mind of millions of men and women. This young man refuses to be quieted. It is a strange day when we have to defend saving a human life.

Don Moose Lewis White Only Basketball League: Professional All White Basketball League

Don "Moose" Lewis has announced a new professional basketball league, but is this a joke or a publicity stunt? Seems the truth is not known. Augusta Mayor, Deke Copenhaver, says this "won't fly" with the people of his city, which Lewis said he hopes will host one of his 12 games.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Lewis says he will:

...exclude blacks and all foreigners from his new league, which the newspaper said will be based in Atlanta....

...only players that are natural-born United State citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league.... 

According to the [Augusta] Chronicle, Lewis said he wants to emphasize "fundamental basketball" instead of "street ball" played by "people of color."

The league is known as the All-American Basketball Alliance (AABA). What do you think. Is this a publicity stunt?

A former boyfriend of Julie Postle is claiming his ex was also one of Tiger's women, both before and after Tiger and Elin's wedding. See update 12-15-09 below Elin may get Puma endorsement.

Brian Kimbrough, the ex-boyfrend, said Postle told him:

...that Woods’ marriage, even back then, was a house of cards.
"She said Tiger told her that his marriage was for publicity,” Kimbrough told the paper. “She said it was for his image, and the tabloids and wasn't real."

Postle, also known as Julie Purple, apparently is trying to prove that she was on Tiger's very active radar screen. Kimbrough says she contacted him to retrieve old phone records "in hopes of proving a connection to Woods."

Reports galore. One that the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), "escorted by police," allegedly went to the home of Tiger and Elin Woods yesterday (Saturday). Amid reports that Elin was taking Tiger to her home in Switzerland, and Tiger's own statement that he will withdraw from golf for awhile, another report surfaces that the couple will stay together through the Christmas holiday and then Elin is seeking a divorce. And how about Tiger's caddy, saying the golf prodigy "has a problem."12-13-09 update below - see link to Jamie Jungers and Tiger's father below.

The reported fight between Tiger and his wife the night after Thanksgiving, leading up to Tiger crashing in more ways than one, precipitated the visit by the organization charged with the protection of children in the state of Florida. No one seems to really know what happened inside the Woods home, and the rumored incident of "domestic violence" is yet to be explained, but clearly, the police believe there is a basis for the rumor.

RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively that a marked police car escorted an unmarked car to Tiger’s house around midday Saturday. Typically investigators from DCF would want to evaluate the safety of a home for children after a domestic violence incident.

The Woods' children are two-year-old Sam and 10-month-old Charlie.

We do not know if the DCF found the Woods at home, or if they gained entry to the Woods home:

Florida Highway Patrol initially investigated Woods’ car crash and the golfer refused to talk to them when they tried to schedule follow-up interviews. But refusing to talk to DCF when it is conducting an official investigation can lead to severe repercussions by state law.

A report that Elin Nordegren Woods wants to "appear normal" through the holidays are surfacing, but "will quickly separate," in the new year.

Tiger's longtime caddy, Steve Williams, said he knew nothing about Tiger's infidelities. He says he understands that Tiger has a problem and he says he has talked to Woods about it. Williams began talking when ESPN writer Rick Reilly suggested Tiger should "ditch" him and others around him:

"What people fail to realize is I [just] work for Tiger Woods," Williams said in the interview, where he attacked Reilly’s call for his job.

"I live in New Zealand, I travel to and from New Zealand to caddie for Tiger Woods. I am not with him 24/7. Whilst I am a very good friend of his... I don't know what he does off the course. Some nights we go to dinner. His indiscretions have probably been [when he wasn't playing].

"When he is not competing, I am back in New Zealand. I have no knowledge of what he is doing. “

Williams says he is a "straight-up person," and if he had knowledge of the trysts, he would admit it.

Of all these reports, the alleged visit by the DCF is the most shocking. Florida's track record on child protection is abysmal. A quick Internet search shows the many disturbing incidents when the Department has simply failed to protect. A Woods divorce, or at least a long separation, makes more sense to me than Elin rehabilitating her husband in Sweden. If I were Elin, and if the DCF felt it necessary to visit my home, I think I would take a golf club to him a second time.
