Why I quit...

By Findalis

Desert Storm vet explains decision to leave Air Force after 22 years.

By MIKE BANZET

I never expected to write this letter, but my Mom e-mailed me to get information about my career for a writeup on Veterans Day, and as this is the first such holiday in 22 years when I will not be on active duty, I felt compelled to let you know why I decided to quit.

Quit is a strong word, I know. Everyone I’ve talked to has repeated that I’ve had a marvelous career and that I’ve retired with honor. Maybe that’s true on paper; I guess that it’s reflected by the record. But that’s not how I feel. I feel like I’ve quit. And because I’m not a quitter, I feel I have to explain why — not that anyone is asking, but because perhaps they don’t know to ask.

Briefly, my career had been a representation of the promise of this country. Starting out on the lowest rung of the rank ladder as an F-4G Wild Weasel crew chief, continuing on F-16s and the F-117A Stealth fighter in Desert Storm, then a small part of Desert Fox as a nuclear Maintenance Officer and finally a pilot that took part in numerous deployments in Southern Watch, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. I finished up an awesome year on the ground in Iraq, and was selected to receive a coveted “Definitely Promote,” assuring me of promotion to lieutenant colonel. They don’t pass out many of those. My dreams were right in front of me. All I had to do was grab them. And then I retired. Why?

Atlas Shrugged.

I had chosen, freely, to place my life between those that would do harm to the U.S. and those whom I would protect: her citizens. I had always believed in the best of America and the people of her lands; that despite occasional missteps there was a general “rightness” to our way. I lived that belief for 22 years, leading and following warriors into combat. I’m certainly no war hero; my brothers in arms have seen far more combat, more intense and personal than I. But I have become acquainted with death in a way that I hope you never do. My last tour, on the ground in Iraq was where my heart started to be hardened towards you, the electorate, and culminated in this letter, written two days before our elections. And here’s why.

You’ve elected officials who, for partisan points, spoke openly that the “…war is lost.” I happened to be in a dining facility in Baghdad that day, filled with the (mostly) young faces of (mostly) Army men and women. CNN was on the TVs, and things got very quiet when this elected official continued on, railing that the mission that some of these very people were here to do, had “…failed.” Yet, they would be donning their body armor, strapping on med kits and weapons, mounting HMMVs or MRAPs and heading outside the wire, ensuring that the newborn democracy in Iraq, purchased with so many lives, would be safe another night. The newly re-invigorated insurgents would be waiting, teeth bared back in a hateful smile, gripping the IED detonator, the RPG launcher, or the AK-47s to ply their trade with new energy, because the Senate Majority Leader had said they were winning.

You elected officials who continually defame and berate military members, whether it is the observation that if you’re not too bright, you’ll get “…stuck in Iraq” (this from a guy who has two Purple Hearts for self-inflicted wounds, and known for throwing someone else’s medals away in protest), or the calling of combat Marines cold-blooded killers (in a war; before trial). You’ve elected officials in the role of commander-in-chief who “loathe” the military, while using ROTC deferments and special treatment to avoid military service that the less “connected” take as a responsibility. On the basis of “change,” you elected someone who had close, ongoing associations with people who were part of an organization that tried to kill us [U.S. military] on our own soil.

You elected officials that promised to take property from some Americans, and give it to you, merely because they had more than you did. Those Americans that these officials have labeled as the “rich” are your neighbors, who provide jobs and pay far more in taxes than you ever will. That means they are already subsidizing your lifestyle choices; you just want more of their property without the responsibility of risking your wealth and labor to get it. You would rather hire someone to take it from them. And you have.

Yet these same officials from this same party are the wealthiest group of people in both the House and Senate. They have offshore accounts, forbid unions in their businesses and use every tax loophole they can find with their armies of accountants. But you keep sending them back to those jobs, because they promise to steal from some Americans and give to you.

You elect officials who openly embrace illegal activity; but they don’t have to live with the consequences. Other Americans pay the price. You support “sanctuary cities” and open defiance of federal law, including supporting administrations who sue our sister states as they desperately try to control a crime epidemic by supporting federal law. You support an administration that leads a party that gives a standing ovation to the leader of a country that exploits our kindness and actively encourages law-breaking in our country while insulting our fellow citizens who dare to try to enforce the law. Check out your elected officials; did they stand and applaud the racist diatribe of the president of Mexico? Did they join the attorney general and the head of Homeland Security in applauding this gaping hole in (homeland) security and law? Do you have locks on your doors? Why?

You elect officials who are openly racist, decrying that “White folks’ greed drives a world in need…” and that their own grandmother was a “…typical white person.” Someone who sits in admiration as their pastor (small p; no capital letters for racists), in a church he attended for 20 years, slanders the United States as the “…U.S. of KKK America” and delights that the 9/11 “…chickens have come home to roost.” Someone who refused to denounce a paramilitary, racist organization that placed its members in front of polling places armed with billy clubs, and yelling racist, threatening epithets. On video. And the Attorney General did nothing.

Oh, wait. The Justice Department is now apparently, under sworn testimony, the Department of Racial Payback. And you continue to support the party that supports this blatantly racist behavior because they say that they will stick it to “the man” on your behalf. A Nation of Cowards? I don’t think so; the courage of this breathtaking racism is without equal in modern times. One would think that you would use your votes to eradicate these racist policies from the U.S. But that assumes eradicating racism is your aim. It’s not, or you would be as incensed at this blatant racism as you would if sheet-covered whites were there. But longtime Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd’s old gang has been rightfully disgraced and shamed into a virtual non-existence. Thank goodness that 52 percent of you discourage that kind of behavior.

But you don’t. You support the tactic of using the epithet of “racist” as the cudgel of choice for racists who don’t like policies that conservatives advocate. Don’t like illegal activity? Racist. Your party insists that to provide a photo ID — proving you are who you say you are — is not only too much of a burden to ask a voter to bear, but it’s racist as well. This not only terribly insulting to all races, but when the burden of proof to rent the DVD “Second Hand Lions” (amazing movie!) is higher than that required to vote for someone who has control of nuclear weapons or deploying men and women into harm’s way, there is something wrong.

It doesn’t end there. Don’t like a particular female’s policies? Sexist. Yet, you support politicians who prey on 20-year old interns, seduce underage male interns, and, as a double bonus, support a person for the Supreme Court who says she is “wiser” than white people because of her race and sex. And any opponent of hers must be sexist and racist. Yet the prevailing double standard makes “bitch” an acceptable term for a conservative grandmother with the temerity to want to stop illegal activity. And “whore” is acceptable terminology for any conservative woman.

Sarah Palin seems to be a nice person, the kind you would love to have as a neighbor, regardless of her policies; but you insist that she is stupid and vile. She is ignorant and inexperienced, clearly not ready for anything, as holding a variety of elected and appointed positions culminating in the governorship of Alaska clearly doesn’t hold up against… an organizer of race-based communities. Sexist, if a conservative said those words about a liberal, but because she is not pro-killing-little-kids, 52 percent of you decided she was worth vicious ad hominem attacks that continue to this day. Not just saying that you disagree, but saying she is evil. You support it all. All because the folks that practice this abhorrent behavior promise to give you free health care stolen from other Americans who haven’t paid their ill-defined “fair share.”

My oath was this: “I, Mike, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

I took that oath seriously. But you have responsibilities, too. You should take them seriously.

Mike Banzet, a retired major in the U.S. Air Force, is a 1986 graduate of Flathead High School in Kalispell, Montana.
When I first read this letter I knew I had to post it in its entirety, without any embellishes or comments from me.  Major Banzet's words speak louder, clearer, with an eloquence that stands alone without overt embellishments.

It is a shame that men and women who serve our nation find themselves disillusioned and repelled at the level of revulsion directed at them by many of the esteemed Members of Congress.  Many of which never served a day of their lives in uniform, let alone in a combat zone.  These respected public servants are not fit to lick the shoes of Major Banzet, let alone speak against them.

Let the words of Major Banzet be a wake-up call to us all.  For if the Major Banzet's leave our military disillusioned and disheartened, we will be faced with the reality of a second class military incapable of defeating our weakest foe and unable to defend this nation from those who would destroy it from within.  A military the former Soviet Union wanted us to have and their fellow travelers are trying to turn into the new reality.

Keith Ablow: Americans in Denial About Obama

Dr. Keith Ablow says Americans are in Denial about Barack Obama. "The mind and the soul are fitted with shock absorbers triggered only by the biggest bumps in the road." Well America, if we haven't had a bump in the road the size of the Grand Canyon, we've at least plunged into a sink hole the size of Guatemala's world record holder.

Guatemala Sinkhole

Cutting to the chase, it IS about race. Many cannot bear to believe that a Black man could so severely destruct the American dream. Well, Obama the Black Man has done that, and his agenda-engine is still speeding down the track. American Democrats must begin to recognize the numerous brilliant Blacks who just happen to be conservative...not necessarily Republican, but conservative with a great love for this Nation and a profound knowledge of what made America great: economists Dr. Thomas Sowell, Dr. Walter Williams, and Herman Cain a successful business man with vast experience in creating profitable businesses nationwide, to mention a few Liberals could not keep out of the public eye.

Ablow, a psychiatrist, best-selling author and contributor at Fox News notes what you and I have known before The Time of Obama began:
...the Obamas are profoundly ambivalent about whether America and Americans have historically been a force for good or ill in the world. This is why the president has repeatedly apologized for America’s behavior, in a way that not only signals other nations that our leader is at best uncertain about our moral character, but may plant self-doubt about our decency in own population.

It is why the president would remain in a church where the pastor has been quoted as saying, “God damn, America!” and would bring his children to that church to listen and learn.
Whether Black, White, Hispanic or Asian, Americans want a president who values Liberty above his own life, and will do whatever is necessary to guard and defend our Constitution, rather than believing it to be a document with "deep flaws".  It is not about the color of skin. It IS about the vision for an even greater American through limited government practicing fiscal accountability and fostering an environment for personable responsibility. Community organizers are in direct opposition of those ideals.

Ablow is right. Many who voted for Obama - those who still want a share of his stash, voted for him because they believed he would right the wrongs of racism. Instead, he has made it painfully obvious that the Blacks still following him are the racists. In the name of Social Justice, Obama has brought an extreme racist to the Department of Justice, allowing the Nation to descend to a lawlessness never thought possible in this country - and his followers have cheered that their man is "putting it to the Whites."

Flash forward to today, those Obama voters thinking their White-guilt would slide would slide from their shoulders if they only cast a vote for him, find being Black, and considered eloquent, articulate and "clean," - a Harvard graduate,  who is laughingly considered an expert on the U.S. Constitution, realize that his background and belief in Socialism, Marxism and Communism really does matter. Ablow ends with:
If we were deprived of denial, if we were willing to really listen and really be shocked, if we were willing to be wrong and wronged, we would have to admit that we elected a man to lead our country who just doesn't express much lover for it - or us.
Still so much to be said...

Gustus Bozarth is Flag Rescuer: Homeless Man Gustus Bozarth Rescues Flag

A El Paso security camera caught Gustus Bozarth rescuing the American flag, which had fallen in a storm. The videotape showed Mr. Bozarth in a driving rain, carefully folding the flag military-style, on the hood of a pick-up truck, and then leaving it and the pole in a safe place on the property. Across the country, people are responding to his plight and offering help. See the video below.

Gustus Bozarth

The owner of the flag is METI Inc., a federal contracting company. According to their spokesperson, METI has had a "heart warming" response to the story, with offers to help with donations. KFOX is also working with an agency to provide aid.

METI employees were shocked to find the downed-flag not strewn on the ground in front of their building, but neatly and properly folded. That's when they checked the security tape showing Gustus Bozarth at 1:40 a.m. folding the flag in a driving rainstorm.

KFOX14 quotes Bozarth:
It's a small respect, folding the flag like that," he said. Bozarth said he learned to fold the flag when he worked as a security officer in Tampa, FL.
WoundedTimes says Gustus lives in the back of a warehouse just feet from where the fallen flag was found.

METI Inc. at first refused to take donations for Gustus until they could a arrange a way to keep the funds safe. According to the video below, a fund has now been set-up. For details contact METI Inc. at 915-772-4975 or KFOX14 at 915-833-8585.

Jeremiah Wright's Peaceful Ministry

On one of my Jeremiah Wright posts, a reader has asked if I am aware that "Rev. Wright created the largest congregation in a predominately white denomination 94%+, the United Church of Christ? Trinity UCC's association with the denomination is totally voluntary, as is the 100s of thousands of dollars the congregation donates to support the denomination?"

Jeremiah Wright

If I understand the question correctly, he is saying that former Trinity United Church of Christ, when pastored by Jeremiah Wright, is a part of a mostly white denomination, the United Church of Christ. I fail to see any Christian denomination by the color of its majority body. An exception might be the African Methodist Episcopal. Perhaps my reader is trying to tell me that Wright is mainstream as the pastor of a huge body of churches. And perhaps my reader is right, as United Church of Christ is a part of the far-left and dangerous National Council of Churches.

To me it seems Wright is getting closer and closer to a call for violence, although the reader says he has listened to many of Wright's speeches and sermons and said Wright has never advocated violence. Wright is quoted in the New York Post saying Martin Luther King was wrong to advocate for non-violence. Reader is doubtful of that quote. When I listen to Wright, time after time, and knowing that he embraces and defends Black Liberation Theology (BLT), consider this quote by James H. Cone, the founder of BLT.
James H. Cone: If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill gods who do not belong to the black community. Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.
What we need is the diving love as expressed in black Power, which is the power of Black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by an means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.
Cone is an ordained minister of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Black Liberation Theology is said to combine some Christianity with Black Power. I believe the movement is growing closer to The New Black Panthers with heavy Islamic influences.  I ask if it is possible we are heading for another Black Power movement? Pick any YouTube New Black Panther video and tell me how much of a Christian influence lingers. Also consider Wright's Hamas sympathies - a terrorist organization.

If Wright is not advocating for violence, he surely has to know that many, many young black men are listening to him, are converting to Islam, and if he has any authority at all among blacks, he is fueling the hate that so often turns to violence.

For those wanting to criticize me for pointing out Wright's racism, his breathtaking lack of patriotism damning America, deriding being born in "the oven of America," praising socialism, and little or no respect for whites, okay, but as I said to my reader, Wright's own words represent who he is. After all, to quote Barack Obama, "words matter."

John Holdren Science Czar: America's Inability to be No. 1 Indefinitely: Holdrens Planetary Regime to the Rescue

Okay, Drudge has up this provocative link: "Obama Science Czar tell students: We can't be #1 indefinitely.... The server is overwhelmed as every conservative blogger wants a piece of this. But the Obama science czar, Dr. John Holden, has prompted plenty of discussion without this headline that I must assume means exactly what it says: America can't always be No. 1 in...(then pick your category and insert it here). Whatever he is saying today to our students, this is a man who believes we should have a planetary regime - a "superagency for population...regulating all food on the international market...The Planetary Regime might be given responsibility for determining the optimum population for the world...." That's who is talking to your kids today.

 John Holdren - Science Czar
To the chagrin of Holden, opponents have taken him at his word. In 1977, about 5 years after he published the suggestion that zero population growth was a good idea, he co- authored with Paul and Anne Erlich, Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment. Here are snippets:
..."coercive," "involuntary fertility control, including "a program of sterlizing women after their second or third child," [which doctors would be expected to do right after a woman gives birth].

"Unfortunately, such a program therefore is not practical for most less developed countries," [due to a lack of physicians present at the time of birth].
Those who criticized Holdren and the Erlichs are accused of "misreading" their writings. They "described" draconian measures, but did not "recommend them, they say.

Yet in 1972, in a paper titled Population and the American Predicament: The Case Against Complacency, (Pages 31-35) John Holdren not only suggests Zero Population Growth, but Zero Economic Growth as well: (Holdren's paper was included in a series of papers featuring at least 12 authors all examining Growth vs. No Growth).
Most students of contemporary American problems seem to have agreed, at least, a that the costs of long-continued population growth would considerably outweigh the benefits;...Do the potential consequences of continued population growth in the United States justify systematic measures to hold fertility at replacement level...?

Should such measures be used to push fertility well below replacement, if it does not drop that far without them, in order to bring the attainment of Zero Population Growth (ZPG) closer than seventy years hence and to render the intervening population increment smaller than some 70 million?...Should there be zero economic growth as well as zero population growth?
Holdren argues that the U.S. population in 1972 of 210 million "is too many" and the "280 million projected in 2040 "is likely to be much too many...(today our population is 309 million), and he says:
"accordingly, a continued decline in fertility to well below replacement should be encouraged with the aim of achieving ZPG before the year 2000...."
It will be no surprise to you that John Holdren is one of the leading advocates of global warming - an obnoxiously loud alarmist - who believes the overpopulated earth ls leading to the demise of the environment. Dr. Tim Ball and Jidi McLeod, writing for Canada Free Press don't hold back in characterizing John Holdren as "another snake...slithering out from the ongoing [ClimateGate] controversy:

In fact, according to files released by CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in what Canada Free Press columnist and noted Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball terms:
"a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people."

Dr. Tim Ball

Ball is alleging that two scientists, Sallie Baliunas and Willie Soon, were "authors of excellent work confirming the existence of the Medieval Warm Period," - well-sourced work - which did not fit with the theory that warmists were using to demonstrate that the 20th century was the warmest ever. According to Ball, and now ClimateGate has borne this out, the Climate Research Unit knew their theories of "the 20th Century the warmest ever" were untrue. Baliunas and Soon "destroyed their credibility" - especially that of Hockey Stick developer, Michael Mann," and then Baliunas "politely" withdrew from the climate studies.

Holdren sent a series of emails claiming credit for re-educating a blogger who often quoted Soon and Baliunas - and who was considered a supporter of theirs. In otherwords, he denigrated two entirely credible scientists - Soon and Baliunas.

The thing to remember about Holdren, no matter what we finally hear about his claims that American cannot be No. 1 forever, is that he is willing to sacrifice human life to save the planet, and he thinks a planetary regime is the way to control it all. Holdren was a perfect fit for the Obama administration, which views total control their personal domaine. For the quote in the first paragraph read a very detailed report on Holdren, his own words and see snapshots of his book at ZombieTime.

DNC DeFaced Flag Contest Finalist: DNC US Flag Descration Video; Health Care and the American Flag

The DNC held a contest. Submit a video in favor of Democrat health care reform. One of the 20 finalists exercises his right to free speech and support of the government plan by desecrating the American flag.

The judges, according to the "Organizing for American" website were "qualified" Democratic National Committee (DNC) "employee judges."

A contestant whose video didn’t make the final-20 cut complains that a video “defacing the flag” won’t do much to help President Barack Obama or the Democrats sell health care reform.
“They should never pick that,” said the contestant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “It makes the Democrats look really, really bad.”
Judges for the final winner will be DNC Chair Tim Kaine, Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), actress Rosario Dawson and actor Dule Hill, the "public," and will.i.am - the frontman for Black Eyed Peas who wrote the song "Yes We Can," for the Obama campaign.

Desecrating the American flag is now mainstream Democrat expression.

Romney Speech Brought Tears: Mitt Romneys Heritage Foundation Speech

I don't tear-up often but Mitt Romney's speech at the Heritage Foundation had me reaching for a tissue.

Mitt Romney
Patriotic speeches went the way of G.W. but we have Mitt Romney reminding us of what America and Americans have meant to so many around the world. We have former Vice President Dick Cheney standing so courageously in front of the myriad of maniacal appeasers and defending the steps it has taken to keep us free of further terrorist attacks. We have had some good days in this country recently. The following is taken from the Mitt Romney speech:
Because of what America did in the 20th century, there are hundreds of millions of people around the world who now live in freedom – who, but for the price paid by the United States, would have lived in despair. I know of no other such example of national selflessness in the history of mankind. That is why America is the hope of the earth. - Mitt Romney
Here are some snippets from Romney about Obama's criticisms of the U.S.: That is also why, with all due respect, I take issue with President Obama’s recent tour of apology. It’s not because America hasn’t made mistakes—we have—but because America’s mistakes are overwhelmed by what America has meant to the hopes and aspirations of people throughout the world. The President also claimed on Arabic TV that America has dictated to other nations. No, America has sacrificed to free other nations from dictators. Britain’s Guardian newspaper noted that Mr. Obama has been more critical of his own country, while on foreign soil, than any other president in American history. That would be a most unfortunate distinction at any time. But it is particularly so today: with all that is transpiring in the world, in Iran, North Korea, Georgia, Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, this is the time for strength and confidence, not for apologizing to America’s critics. Read the entire speech, which includes the "four competing nations or groups of nations, representing four different ways of ways of life, that are vying to lead the world before the end of this century." Thank you to Lonely Conservative who has up the excellent video, as well as a conservative rap video by Young Con. I had not heard of Young Con before this video. Stop by and see what you think.

AMERICAN LEGION: An Open Letter to Homeland Security on ‘Rightwing Extremists’

By Findalis

Created in 1919, The American Legion has been on the forefront in the battle of rights for US Veterans and their families. The Legion has been responsible for passage of such notable bills such as: The GI Bill, which sent thousands of veterans returning home from World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam to college, helped millions of veterans buy affordable homes, start businesses, etc...

Needless to say, the American Legion is not, nor has it ever been, a terrorist organization. Until now and the Obama administration's insistence that all groups on the right of their ideology are terror groups. Dave Rehbein, the National Commander of the Legion disagrees:

Secretary Janet Napolitano Department of Homeland Security U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington, DC 20528 April 13, 2009 Dear Secretary Napolitano, On behalf of the 2.6 million-member American Legion, I am stating my concern about your April 7 report, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence and Recruitment."
First, I want to assure you that The American Legion has long shared your concern about white supremacist and anti-government groups. In 1923, when the Ku Klux Klan still yielded unspeakable influence in this country, The American Legion passed Resolution 407. It resolved, in part, "...we consider any individual, group of individuals or organizations, which creates, or fosters racial, religious or class strife among our people, or which takes into their own hands the enforcement of law, determination of guilt, or infliction of punishment, to be un-American, a menace to our liberties, and destructive to our fundamental law..."
The best that I can say about your recent report is that it is incomplete. The report states, without any statistical evidence, "The possible passage of new restrictions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks."
The American Legion is well aware and horrified at the pain inflicted during the Oklahoma City bombing, but Timothy McVeigh was only one of more than 42 million veterans who have worn this nation's uniform during wartime. To continue to use McVeigh as an example of the stereotypical "disgruntled military veteran" is as unfair as using Osama bin Laden as the sole example of Islam. Your report states that "Rightwing extremists were concerned during the 1990s with the perception that illegal immigrants were taking away American jobs through their willingness to work at significantly lower wages."
Secretary Napolitano, this is more than a perception to those who have lost their job. Would you categorize union members as "Right Wing extremists"? In spite of this incomplete, and, I fear, politically-biased report, The American Legion and the Department of Homeland Security share many common and crucial interests, such as the Citizen Corps and disaster preparedness. Since you are a graduate of New Mexico Girls State, I trust that you are very familiar with The American Legion. I would be happy to meet with you at a time of mutual convenience to discuss issues such as border security and the war on terrorism. I think it is important for all of us to remember that Americans are not the enemy. The terrorists are. Sincerely, David K. Rehbein National Commander The American Legion
Dave Rehbein
It is too bad that these words will be falling on deaf ears. To the Obama Administration, any one who doesn't fall in lock step behind him, must be eliminated, ridiculed and destroyed.
Well said Commander Rehbein, well said!
